Man it’s easy to forget how good these guys were/are. Everyone of them is a virtuoso on their instrument. John kills it on electric or stand up every time, Frank has to be one of the most underrated guitarist of all time, and Eric is so often overlooked as a player because he came up in jazz during the 80’s . I still can’t believe that Chick Corea is gone, almost a year has passed, here he is blazing through a brilliant jam session in t-shirt n jeans with all the youth and energy of a 30 something yet he was 78 yrs old!! He was only 4 months away from his 80th when he passed away! I’m so thankful to have had the privilege to hear his fantastic music throughout the 70s and 80s and his phenomenal genius on all manner of synth keyboards. RIP maestro.
Chick : Great American composer who - at nearly 80 - proves he can still play that thing ; Frank & Dave : These tireless virtuoso players showing us that 60 is the new 30 ; John : The anchor, holding it all down as only he can ; Eric : Laying back, swinging as needed. I've seen this performed on video and live and it has never failed to blow me away... Awesome !!!
I saw these guys play 'Got a Match' live for the first time in 1990 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY my senior year in college with my girlfriend. I'll never forget it.
I saw these amazing gods in the 80's 90s , we all have aged, they have not only more scarier and making me feel even more inferior for my 45 + years of musical study!! Utterly amazing! This was a fucking rehearsal that appears to be back stage BEFORE the show !! Fantastically awesome ! Why hasn't Frank Gambale reached the popularity of all other guitarist not even half his skill ? The patterns used in sweep picking sound pretty limiting and repetitive, to me. I prefer Frank's more traditional playing, esp his comping, check out Coming To Your Senses.
Gosh, I miss the 80s because the electric jazz from this period was just so fucking awesome. I worshipped these guys They fell off my radar for many years. I find myself today listening to this band a few times a week.

Brilliant chemistry with these masters. Saw the Electric Band twice at Tipitinas in the 80s with my dad & sister. We met Chick during a break they took out the side door while he ate a banana. We even shook his piano hands😎🤙🏼🎹
Met Chick a couple years prior to his passing while we were both waiting to board a commercial flight. Sadly, no one even knew who he was. Better for me, I suppose. Had a most interesting, uninterrupted conversation with him for about 30 minutes. Super nice guy. RIP, great one.
Chick moved definitely to a latin jazz, the experimental electric jazz days are long gone but when you were a pioneer in that field certain things just stick with your being and will always resurface. Good to see that the vibe hasn't changed, if not it's even better!
It's so sad that master Corea is no longer with us. However, it makes me very happy to know he played his amazing music until the end of his days. Truly an inspiration. Really want my life to be like that, to carry on my music until my strength succumbs under the crushing weight of the oh so powerful entropy. Rest in peace Chick.
... and he listens carefully, picks up every little pattern in a second. And he's doing these super-complicated triplet-rolls without a glitch - amazing!
It's taken me a few listens, but I love the way that Corea's improv AROUND the theme, without actually stating it outright, still brings Patitucci and Weckl in perfectly on the last unison statement of it. If I only saw it once, in one performance, it would probably pass me by. But that gives good reason to the proposition that every performance by an improvising musician or band should be preserved. I also love the way that every time I hear this tune, they manage to do something different with it. I also love the way that they gather at "front of stage" for the unison lines in the middle section, in the manner of "Hey, look what we can do...." .... I love the way that they all look happy to be doing this.
After learning Spain and playing that great tune for years I finally feel comfy with that. Now got a match ??? OMG lol love this man and his great playing.
