Hi! Decided to leave a comment for you to read ❤️ I’m from Ukraine and during a war started my home jungle. All these planting stuff are making me calm and happy. And a huge part of inspiration and caring tips I took from your channel. Just want to thank you for this. Watching you making me happier and I hope this comment will warm you as well🥰
I've been "doing plants" for 60 years but am new to RUclips as a resource. Love seeing all the species people are collecting now + the new substrates, rooting strategies, etc. Claire, it would be so nice if you shared a couple of sentences about the history of a plant/project. For example, your moss prop box: "these begonia cuttings went in the beginning of June; the moss was dampened with water mixed with SuperThrive (1 tsp to 1 gal water)., and I added no water in the interim, as you can see by how dry the moss is." That would give those new to your channel more of a complete picture, tho it might be redundant for your regular viewers. Thanx for considering!
If you have problems finding horticultural or insecticidal soap, you can also use dish soap (hand washing. Not machine detergent). I just put a couple drops in my hands, add some water, suds it up and then rub each individual stem and leaf. You have 2 methods going on then. The soap, but also the physical touching of the leaf (which can squoosh bugs). Rinse well, allow to air dry, repeat in 3-5 days. After a cpl times, the spider mites are usually gone. I've used that method for 25 years and works like a charm. Of course, the very best care method is just keeping your plants healthy so their own defense systems can take care of things. Don't over water, don't underwater. I rarely have pests-- I'd say Ive had bugs maybe 2 times in the last 5 years and both times they came in on plants from Home Depot. I've been a plant lover/keeper for 30+ years, and bugs are not a problem that should be considered a normal occurrence. If you have constant bugs and aren't adding new plants all the time, and not moving plants in from outdoors, you really should look at you're routine care and see if something is causing your plants to be stressed, which weakens them to becoming hosts to pests.
Claire! You showcased your Variegated Alocasia Frydek so much that I could not resist any longer and got one. It's so precious. I love it! It's my first Alocasia but with all the info from Emma and you I think I got this! It's thriving in pon 😊
Hey there 👋🏻 thanks for such good intel on how we can help support videos, I was unaware about a few details! Especially interesting that ‘they’ know if we have watched the ad’s. I would love to encourage people for you… easy enough to just grab a quick drink or snack, or check a text while the ad plays through 😊 Anyway… I certainly appreciate you sharing your planty fun & knowledge with us all!!! - thank you so kindly !
I loved that question from a viewer, "If you could just bring one plant back from the dead, which one would it be?" And to answer that, for me, it would be my Hoya crassipetiolata Splash. I miss that plant, but I know it will come back into my collection one day. I love these vloggy videos as I can potter about doing my own chores while listening to you. Today, I assembled a Plantbox vertical self-watering plant wall system to go in my new plant room. I still don't know what plants are going in it yet 🤔 Then, I potted up some propagations, and watered the Anthuriums. Sending big hugs to Joil and yourself 🤗🤗
Yay perfect timing! I was planning to do a bunch of planty stuff as well this evening, always love watching to your videos while I'm going through my plant chores. 🌱
Hi Claire! Love the chill plant chores day video and often do some of my own while listening. On the Dean McDowell, there is no need to root cuttings if you take them. This is because, just like a climbing philo that has rooted into a moss pole, the dean mcdowell has already established roots into the soil. So what you can do is just cut the main crawling stem in half using a utility knife, remove the older half with its soil, then slide the newer half (the “top cut”) back down to the start of the trough planter. That will give it room to continue growing while continuing to size up! It’s kind of like a “chop and extend” for crawlers. I’ve recently done it with my gloriousum and it’s doing well so far, continuing to grow with no issues. Sydney plant guy also has a video from a few months ago where he demonstrates it. Hope you find this helpful!
Hey I noticed you did the repot in bare feet :) my girlfriend does the exact same thing. No matter what time of the year if she is potting or repotting anything she takes her socks off and pots/repots in bare feet every time ! She said it helps her feel at one with her plants :)
Dean McDowell: You could always use a house gutter! You could make it as long or as short as you like… and you can also create the guide/direction for it to grow/crawl. It would be interesting to see that!🥰
Hi Claire, I’m so new to actually watching videos here this is my very first comment 😊 I’m going to watch your videos this evening and tomorrow (notebook and pen close) while doing my long list of plant tlc. I’ve just moved my jungle about a month ago so I thought it was time? I have no idea how many cuttings I’ll have. You are, enthusiastic, interesting, informative and realistic. You’ve made my day. Catriona 😃🪴xx
Ihave several of the Dean McDowell Philodendron plants.. A few of them I have in the long rectangular planter. If you want you can chop a section of the plant and repot the cutting in the same pot so it crawls towards but to the side of the original plant. This will make the plant very full. You will likely find the plant already has roots.. likely the new leaf isn’t rooted yet. If you leave the plant as it is the plant tends to jump the edge and grow over the end of the pot. I don’t recommend bending the new section. You may need to support the newly planted section until the roots grab hold again. Love your channel and your collection. 😊🌱
Hi Claire, thanks for the long chat 😊 I have a similar size silver sword and its growing on a moss pole. I look forward to doing my plant tour to showcase some of my favourite plants 😊 One plant that I would really like to bring back to my care is the anthurium dressleri x forgetti. I had a small plant growing in a prop box and it was starting to grow bigger leaves but in October last year I put it on a shelf while cleaning the prop box before going away for months and didn’t realised I did not put it back in the box and found it completely dead when I returned. And oh, yes please for Ross’s plants tour 😅
Hi Claire, can you please do a video on how you make the elf pot? Looks amazing!!!! I really love all your handmade artistic pots, made from macrame string. You have a great sense of style!!! I enjoyed your plant and chat. Look forward to the next video!!!! 😊💚🐕🪴💜
Hi. I've been using different substrates w self watering pots. I've not used soil/dirt s Hoya Merrill and used w used wine bottle Thank you for explaining so well. ❤🌱🌊🌱🌊🌱❤️
Yes, I did enjoy this video. Your silver sword is beautiful. That is one of my favorites also. However, I much prefer the leaf shape when it's still juvenile. I took a propigation of mine when I was losing leaves left and right. Not sure what was going on, but I'm starting over. Today's video inspired me to combine a hoya propigation with it's "Mother". Don't know why I didn't think of it before but it will look very nice. 😊
I quite enjoy your pots, as others have mentioned. I had used up my supplies doing same and just restocked and bought a larger glue gun to make it easier to get more done. Definitely saves a ton of money and adds one’s own style and artistry to the rooms!
Ooo your Frydek had the most enormous corm! I don’t know how you resisted the temptation to harvest it. It should pop a new plant out in that pot eventually 😍
Hello and thank you for sharing your tip and tricks. Very useful info and great presentation. Oh and your plants, 🤩🤩🤩 One tip I’d like to suggest about your new flat and millie bugs, check the landscape. If they are right outside your door they are smelling a wonderful buffet - try to look into finding them- then kill them!!! 💚😎💚
loved seeing another plant chores video!! i’ve been dealing with soooo many thrips here in east coast USA. hope your pests don’t get too bad this summer❤
Love your videos claire I’ve found you and gone from a black thumb to a green thumb in no time at all and from only having 1 plant to over 40 in my collection I’ve fallen in love with so many of your plants I had to get them x Next on my list is the philodendron brandtianum but struggling to find cuttings at the mo x
20 minutes ago 😍🪴 Aso, love to see a propagation box video (tutorial, tour) if you alread dont have one. Edit: Id also LOVE a tour of your partners plants!
I discovered your channel by accident recently and I'm really enjoying your videos. I have some questions about the products you use and the lighting in your flat . Ninja soil does not seem to be available in the United States but I can get Pon..... Is that essentially the same thing? When you put plants in the Semi Hydro you put water and plant in the same container rather than using one container inside another with the water in the bottom container...what am I missing here? Do you have a video on semi hydro growing? Could you talk about your lighting in an upcoming video or point me to an older video if you have already done that. Thanks you so much!
After I asked these ?s I found the answers in a previous video. Not about lighting though...I still like to hear about that...my house is very dark. Thanks!
Hello Claire, a great video again and how wonderful that you're experimenting with Pon. I've been trying Leca (in self-watering pots and water gage) since a year now - and my plants love to get enough water and nutritions all the time - they grow so fast. Now I'm trying Pon for my Hoya cuttings. And to make my life easier, I put a plastic wick (cotton rotted) in each pot to suck the moisture from the cachepot into the substrat (without Pon being directly in the water)... Works great so far. Greetings, Susanne
I don't have one of those crawlers but I do know you can make a plant do just about anything. You could put a stake or something where you want it to bend so it will go around it and head back the other way. It could work.
I have some begonias in semi hydro, figured they would do well since they root well in perlite. They look like they like it ( I use pon or fine soil ninja alternative )
Hello is this the Semi Hydro channel? Haha, just joking Claire, omg but it seems to be working so well for you. I've been repotting too today, so it's very timely to see you doing the same. I'm getting paranoid about the pest season, no sign as yet (apart from fungus gnats!) but I doubt I'll escape them for long. Thanks for sharing another great vlog 💚🌿
@@TheJungleHaven Btw the plant I'd bring back would be Cissus Discolor. I paid A LOT on Ebay for 2 dried up twigs (wetsticks) last year and they both actually grew into beautiful plants! Then Winter came and... 👻😥
My first pest issue was a mealy bug infestation a few years ago. OMG. Those little buggers DECIMATED my collection. Now every time I see one I grab some q tips and rubbing alcohol and magnifying glass and go in haha. Since then I've had thrips and fungus gnats. And my cat parent friends say "plants are easy" lol.
Enjoyed the video & a question or a topic for the future; I would love to hear about your thoughts & experiences using Tree Fern Substrates, poles & panels.
If I could bring a plant back, it would probably be my silver bay aglaonema. I don't know why it died but I got it when it was pretty small and it had grown so much over last winter. I have replaced it but it was one of my first houseplants.
Great video Claire. I paused the video did some watering and finished watching it.😊 Has anyone here had their silver sword letting out a lot of flowers at the same time? I don’t know what to do with the flowers! Last year there was only 2 flowers so I broke them off so it didn’t rob the plant of energy, this year I have about 10 flowers coming in. Technically do they rob the plant of energy to the leaves? Thank if anyone knows! Natalie 🫶🏼🪴
For your McDowe: What about rising the level of the plant in its pot a bit so you can make a temporary horizontal moss pole as a pot extension while searching for a longer pot option? Don't know if it would work but then again why shouldn't it just be careful with hydration using a spray bottle or something 🤷
@@TheJungleHaven thank you! Just getting myself ready for meeting up for drinks with the bf. This is a perfect video to watch and relax while I do my makeup 😄 have a lovely day!! 💗
Hi Claire I noticed you had a focus alii (is it?) at the back while you were potting your pothos marble queen...I m very drawn to that plant but I don't know much about it... would you make a video about it? And ficuses in general ❤ I love your planty chat so much!!!
Thanks for sharing all the lovely plants with us! I'm curious about your way of handling semi-hydro. Do you do the whole micro-siemens and PH messuring thing or do you just go with regular water and the ocassional fertilizer? Much love to you and Uli
Hi, where do you get semi hydro from and if not possible to get it, do you know what is the mix? Would it be the same as leca? Love all your videos and trying different types of soil to see what works for me / my plants. Thank you
Claire, you definitely have a Manjula. Mine is so large and lovely, it is, by far, my favorite pothos. Once yours sizes up, I am betting it usurps your Marble Queen. I live in Ohio, Mid-West USA, and this summer, the thrips have been truly awful. My Calathea collection has suffered the most, but my Alocasia have been hit hard, as well, and it looks like my Alocasia Zebrina is losing the battle...I soo do not want to lose her. I am thinking I might want to try her in pon, but I have never used it before, and I'm a little bit scared. Also, the thrips had a feast on my Leopardina, and I noticed in one of your past vids that you have one. Have you ever had to rehab it? Any advice? Edit - I would bring back my Alocasia cuprea. I lost it to root rot this past spring :( .
If I could bring one plant back from the dead it would have to be my majesty palm! Since I rescued it from the dairy section of a local Walmart I just had so many issues with it! It started dropping leaves then it had root rot and finally a spider mite infestation and it was gone 😭
I have an n’joy pothos which has the same kind of variegation as your manjula pothos but the leave shape is different, more elongated and a with a clear pointy tip. So I’m pretty sure yours is a manjula pothos.
I also like Pon, however, I ended up with fertilizer burns on 20+ Calathea plants, I'm at 2 months mark since I've started moving all my plants in Lechuza Pon, how do you sort out those issues?
That’s my biggest worry….. l am a new plant owner… and l just don’t know what soil / moss etc is best for what plant… is there a list of plants with what type of soil is best for them …. I could then print out and keep like a bible …. Rather then it be hit and miss…. Love watching you and can’t wait for my plants to get really big and bushy and beautiful like yours.
Claire has a lot of care guides by plant back in her earlier videos. When i get an unfamiliar plant, I check this channel and Good Growing to see if they talked about it.
I really enjoy watching your videos, and for example really enjoyed the one where you asked AI planty questions.... that was fun! However I have a question / observation and I hope you won't take an offence to it. It seems to me that maybe possibly you are not 100% yourself... Many times while watching your videos I felt like you are saying what you think is the "correct" thing to say, or possibly sometimes even exaggerating your obsession with certain plants and how they make you happy. Ive noticed when you are with Emma, you seem much more relaxed and "you". I was wondering whether it is the case at all or maybe just talking to the camera might be still weird to you (it would certainly be to me :))) I really enjoy your content and took some inspiration with my own plant collection, I was just wondering and couldn't resist to ask... Just again, please dont take an offecnce, it is not meant to bring you down... If you hate this comment, of course I wouldn't be mad if you deleted it immediately :)
An interesting observation, and one that's hard to know how to reply to... I try to be myself as much as possible on my channel and be as honest with my opinions as I can in regards to things that are working/not working/making me happy/getting me down etc. This has also now turned into my full time job, so (as with any job) there are some days where I'm perhaps not quite as on form/feeling myself as I'd like to be. There are occasions where I might be having an off day, or struggling with anxiety, and 99% of the time pushing through filming, talking, and getting on top of my plant care genuinely helps me and makes me feel much better. I sometimes watch my own videos back as I'm editing them and have similar thoughts, but I try not to read into them and overanalyse myself too much, as I know I can only be what feels like my best and most genuine self at any given moment. I definitely don't hate your comment, and I honestly appreciate your feedback. Being truly yourself online when you know lots of people are watching can be difficult, but it's something I continue to work on 💚
Completely irrelevant, but I stubbed my baby toe earlier, and it turns out that I've cracked the nail in half right down to the bottom of the nail pad. 😔
Hi! Decided to leave a comment for you to read ❤️
I’m from Ukraine and during a war started my home jungle. All these planting stuff are making me calm and happy. And a huge part of inspiration and caring tips I took from your channel. Just want to thank you for this. Watching you making me happier and I hope this comment will warm you as well🥰
Thank you for your lovely comment! I'm so happy to hear that finding plants during such a difficult time has helped you so much 💚
Plant tour of Ross’s plants please
I bloody love Joli's "help"... plonking himself on your plant mat. Big love to the pooch ❤

What about rising the level of the plant in its pot a bit so you can make a temporary horizontal moss pole as a pot extension while searching for a longer pot option? Don't know if it would work but then again why shouldn't it just be careful with hydration using a spray bottle or something 🤷
Oohh, it's my birthday today, thank you for this amazing gift!! 🎉🎉😃💚🌱🌱
Happy Birthday 🎂
Awww yay! Happy birthday, I hope you have an amazing day 💚🥳
@@TheJungleHaven thank you!
And ficuses in general ❤
I love your planty chat so much!!!
Do you find semi hydro is a lot more expensive than using soil
Hi love your channel I’ve learnt so much thankyou we’re do you get your soil ninja plz
Thank you
You’ll get that moss off the roots of your props easier if you wet it.
Did you do a video of propping that begonia? Big fan...Northern minnesota usa
If I could bring one plant back from the dead it would have to be my majesty palm! Since I rescued it from the dairy section of a local Walmart I just had so many issues with it! It started dropping leaves then it had root rot and finally a spider mite infestation and it was gone 😭
Hi again we’re did you get your black plastic climber from Mor
Is semi hydro the same as using pon? If I use pon, should the water level touch the plant?
Same question. Please do one of your full explanation videos with fun facts 😊
❤❤❤❤❤
Do you rinse the SH before using it? I’ve been having some SH struggles recently when I feel like I’m doing “everything right”
I have an n’joy pothos which has the same kind of variegation as your manjula pothos but the leave shape is different, more elongated and a with a clear pointy tip. So I’m pretty sure yours is a manjula pothos.
I also like Pon, however, I ended up with fertilizer burns on 20+ Calathea plants, I'm at 2 months mark since I've started moving all my plants in Lechuza Pon, how do you sort out those issues?
What is the name of the bag your using?
❤️❤️
That’s my biggest worry….. l am a new plant owner… and l just don’t know what soil / moss etc is best for what plant… is there a list of plants with what type of soil is best for them …. I could then print out and keep like a bible …. Rather then it be hit and miss…. Love watching you and can’t wait for my plants to get really big and bushy and beautiful like yours.
Claire has a lot of care guides by plant back in her earlier videos. When i get an unfamiliar plant, I check this channel and Good Growing to see if they talked about it.
😊

This was a lot of fun! Thank you Claire and Uli! 🤗from 🇨🇦
Every vid I’ve watched about the McDowell end up chopping or layering because they can’t give it enough house room
💚😃💚😃💚
I have a you tube subscription and don't get adverts. Do you as a creator benefit at all from that, as I am obviously not watching the ads?
If you use the predatory mites preventively, dont they starve?

Being truly yourself online when you know lots of people are watching can be difficult, but it's something I continue to work on 💚
@@TheJungleHaven what a gracious reply.
@@kathleenhall3868 Absolutely! Thank you for that...
Completely irrelevant, but I stubbed my baby toe earlier, and it turns out that I've cracked the nail in half right down to the bottom of the nail pad. 😔
