    I keep a pen clip with I dry erase sharpie on my prop boxes so every time I add something I can just scribble it really quickly on the lid. When I remove that plant I just wipe it off 😊

  • @RoseGolden0
    @RoseGolden0 Год назад +3

    I do the same! I throw wet sticks and cuttings in a moss prop box and when they grow, I transfer them into their own little pots and then into another empty prop box with a lid for humidity. Just to get the babies growing and stronger

    My experience with Scindapsus (and I grow a lot of them) is that they don't like soil. I get the best results growing them in pon in self-watering system. So if you're having a problem with a Scindapsus and wanted to try something else with them I highly recommend pon.

    Oooh you should just continue to pot wet sticks and props into small pots but filled with perlite instead of having a big box of perlite. That way you can label the pots and know exactly what you have!

    Fyi, I just picked up a 5 inch hanging planter of string of pearls. The top of pot is fully covered with pearls and many flowers, which smell nice. I googled watering it and saw that if the top is fully covered by the plant to bottom water it. They don't like water standing on top. I have a string of turtles that I am surprised it hasn't rotted yet as it's pretty full on top so will start bottom watering from now on. Btw you did a fine job on cleaning up and organizing the prop box.

    yeah I think every plant owner goes through that. you get in this frenzy of propagating everything then realize, just love and take care of what you already have. propagate in moderation is my motto now...just got to get over the excitement of buying new plants and unboxing (everyone has their weakness I guess lol)

  • @liteweightpup2561
    @liteweightpup2561 Год назад

    I tried a perlite prop box but nothing did well. And the algae is gross. So now I just put cuttings in water if I can or plastic cups with spagnum moss and place in a ziploc. This works better for me and I can tuck the cups between other plants under grow lights and on top of a heat mat. I’ll experiment with perlite in individual cups next.

    About the thrips. I found them on a plant recently. First time with thrips. I treated it a couple times and it came back so I was ready to sacrifice it for the greater good. I put it on my front porch when it was below freezing left it over night then felt bad about it the next night brought it back in and haven't seen any thrips for just over a week. We shall see if that was the trick lol. The plant didn't suffer any damage at all from the cold.

    • @SuperUsername147
      @SuperUsername147 Год назад +1

      Thrips takes more than 2 applications. The eggs are inside the leaves so any topical treatment needs to be applied every 3-4 days until all the eggs are hatched and make sure none have enough time to reach reproductive age.

    I have a dubia cutting that is at the same stage as those that you had in your box. I know you got rid of those, but if you had kept them, what would you have done with them? Do they need longer in the prop box? Are they ready for a moss pole yet? My one just has one long root. It had been propagating in water when i got it

    For thrips you should try koppert! They ship canada wide, and that is what got me rid of my year long on and off thrips infestation in only a month! It's quite expensive (100$ per treatment), but you usually only need one or 2 treatments if you want to be extra sure! And you just need to add them to your plants and wait! No spraying every week. Ps, I love your channel. You're my favorite plant youtuber❤️🪴

    I saw you got a pot of String of Turtles in a recent video. My pot I got like a month ago looked exactly like yours. And the strings just kept falling off. I believe they soaked it thoroughly the morning I bought it from my local nursery. Then I got it home and had it in a south/east window. It looked beautiful for a full week until I noticed some sad looking strings. I felt the soil and it was still soaked. Tried drying it out. (I think they all just rotted. It was complete carnage 😭 So I have little turtles propping everywhere! The ones doing the best are in a glass terrarium. Roots are coming out everywhere. The ones in my prop box don’t look like they are doing anything and the ones in test tubes of water turned to mush. Keep documenting your journey with your turtles. I would absolutely love to see what you find out works best. I’ve watched every video on RUclips and there aren’t any that have helped me understand what works best.

    It's so funny to me because thrips are the easiest pest for me, since there's a pesticide in Europe that kills them literally in one application - it's called Strike (by Agrolit), and if you're able to get it to Canada, I seriously advise you to try it, that stuff is magic! Spider mites on the other hand 😭😭😭 still haven't found the magic poison for those bastards

    • @aingealtara1479
      @aingealtara1479 Год назад +1

      .. First I give the plant (turn it upside down so the soil won't get soaked and use lukewarm water so the plant won't die of shock) a good shower to wash off as much as possible of the spidermites..
      .. I use neem oil, lavender soap, peppermint oil and boiled filtered water.. Spray down the plant, underneath the foliage too, remove the spidermites that might still sit there and with a microfiber cloth you clean every leaf and every stem.. Then give the top soil a good spray, and let the poor plant rest, in a place away from the other plants..
