Hi Kait-- I find the only way I can get through the morning/afternoon hours without food is by drinking green juice (I do the greens 2 juice from Pressed Juicery. Occasionally, I'll have their vanilla almond juice for breakfast or they're roots 2 drink--not sure if you're familiar with their juices). Does this break my fast? Without it, I just feel so ill and nauseous and fasting for my set time (I do 16:8) is almost impossible. I haven't been fasting for long enough to notice a difference physically, so I want to make sure I'm not beginning this IF lifestyle incorrectly! Thank you!

I’m on day 5 of IF. Doing the 18:6. This morning was the first morning that I didn’t even want coffee, which is weird for me. I’m usually drinking 4-5 cups a day. I eat whatever I want during my 6 hour eating window. I’ve already lost 4lbs (which is probably water weight, but I’ll take it).
If you don’t like the bitterness of black coffee a pinch of salt does the trick, I use a good Himalayan salt that I throw in my cup before brewing the coffee
2 weeks into OMAD with a one hour eating window. While fasting. I drink water with a little lemon juice, unsweetened green tea (occasionally), bulletproof coffee (if I wake up starving).

I'm currently intermittent fasting right now.. I'm about 19 hours into my 72 hour fast. I do this about 2 to 3 times a year to keep my weight stabilized if & when I cheat on my keto lifestyle. I only cheat on keto for celebrations like birthdays or holidays.. this is my first fast of the new year after Christmas cheating. When I fast I will consume water, coffee with butter Or heavy whipping cream, an occasional diet soda or a Bang energy drink... All have been fine on all my previous fasting over the last 3 years. I have lost weight during these times & remained in ketosis. Hope this helps anyone passing & reading by.

I make a blended ice lemon drink with turmeric,, mct oil, and cinnamon.... also as I’ve researched calories I drop about 10 blueberry and with it blended it makes a juicy drink. Not to mention I add magnesium powder with collagen on occasions. Thanks for this video on clarity what during drink while in a 16-20 hour of not eating.

I like to start the day with a bulletproof coffee with a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil and tablespoon of butter. I give it a buzz in the "Magic Bullet" and it's great. I have some black coffee later on before and with my lunch.

I have just some coffee with organic heavy whipping cream or coconut creamer and the rest of the day will have water. I’ll add a pinch of salt like you suggest.

Been Keto since the Summer and getting ready to transition to Carnivore for a month or two to see if it can get me through a plateau (i don't really need to lose weight anymore but just want to get rid of a small belly pouch and a bit on inner thighs) and to experiment. I'm a tiny female at 100 lbs. @ 5', 1" and shredded from working out. Always been a gym rat. I'll probably end up somewhere in between Keto/Carnivore. Anyhow, in regard to this video, I just wanted to share with you my experience with coffee when fasting. I LOVE coffee! The taste, the ritual, and the boost...especially the fatty coffees. Anyway, I heard chatter that black coffee CAN break a fast by raising insulin (this is what technically we are talking about right? If insulin is raised...then the fast is broken?) I first tested my fasted BG with my Keto-Mojo upon rising. Drank black coffee, waited 30 min. and tested BG again, and every time my BG goes up drastically like 20-30 pts. sometimes but always goes up. Then, I will do the same experiment on other mornings with a bulletproof coffee with 1 tbsp./ea. of MCT oil and Ghee. My BG always goes DOWN from fasting baseline! I'm actually doing a 45 hour fast right now and had a BP coffee this morning and will have one in the morning and will test again for shits and giggles. This is my longest fast so far. Just hope I can sleep tonight. There are so many different views on diet soda. Some say it won't beak a fast, some say it will break a fast. This is so confusing. Especially for people who love diet soda, like me.
Lost 6kg during last 3 months drinking a lot of diet sodas while fasting. Yeah I get mild insuline response from the soda but it helps me keep the regime for so long. So I disagree with you on that very very much. I'm not longer pre-diabetic too. 😊

cream?! it holds protein and will effect your blood sugar levels and many other things in your blood. That is the reason why you cannot take any protein at all before certain blood tests where it says Fasting before or empty stomach before blood test! only water or coffee/tea but any protein ruin your blood sugar levels, ask any blood test lab rat 😂
Debbie Johnson I don't see anything wrong with carnivore during the week and keto on weekends. Once you have been in ketosis for awhile you become more metabolically flexible and it's easier to switch in and out of fat burning 🙂

I have a big water dispenser on my counter and it holds about 1 1/2 gal. I sliced a half of a cucumber and added it to the water along with some mint leaves. It gives a clean taste to the water. Can these two adds break my fast?
I typically consume a small amount of inulin and physillium husks with14 oz of water the first thing in the morning to jump start my microbiome with prebiotics. If I do this while intermittent fasting, should I wait until my fist meal that breaks the fast? Fasting is difficult. I pushed one week, eating the same 1500 calories per day been doing for nearly two years on Keto, and fasting 14 hours for three days, 2 days 22 hours and 2 days 16 ours. After that week, with average of 50g carbs per day, I GAINED 2lbs. Yesterday, tried your approach to Bullet Coffee for breakfast, and only had 1058 calories (fasting 12 hours), was busy and no aching hunger pains. Meals totaled 21.3g carbs, 70.5 carbs fat and protein 74.7g. I lost 2 lbs. I am fighting Hyper Insulin Resistance, with my fighting Prostate enlargement and cancer. p.s. Over past year, waste line down from 48" to 42" and weight down from 239 to 207 on various Keto approaches. But need to lose more in both areas; been stuck for six months! NO sugar products in house; only use Stevia in small amounts. Since new to your site; will update you in a month if interested for info gathering.

Both together are definitely the best! I would have to say low carb/keto because they mimic a lot of the benefits of fasting (keeping insulin low, etc.) 🙂
If they are electrolyte supplements, they won't break a fast (assuming no sugar is in them). Something like vitamin D will technically break a fast though.

Respectfully I believe it’s 10 calories that breaks a fast
50 calories is definitely breaking your fast. It is still keeping your insulin level low, but your fast is most assuredly being interrupted.
Less than 50 cals is ok for fasting but will interrupt autophagy. If you want, double check with an insulin tracker. It is different in every body

Just do longer fasts and dry fasts possibly.

I have a big water dispenser on my counter and it holds about 1 1/2 gal. I sliced a half of a cucumber and added it to the water along with some mint leaves. It gives a clean taste to the water. Can these two adds break my fast?

I typically consume a small amount of inulin and physillium husks with14 oz of water the first thing in the morning to jump start my microbiome with prebiotics. If I do this while intermittent fasting, should I wait until my fist meal that breaks the fast? The benefit of using these products is very positive for overall digestion and moving fiber through my system.

Fasting is difficult. I pushed one week, eating the same 1500 calories per day been doing for nearly two years on Keto, and fasting 14 hours for three days, 2 days 22 hours and 2 days 16 ours. After that week, with average of 50g carbs per day, I GAINED 2lbs.
Yesterday, tried your approach to Bullet Coffee for breakfast, and only had 1058 calories (fasting 12 hours), was busy and no aching hunger pains. Meals totaled 21.3g carbs, 70.5 carbs fat and protein 74.7g. I lost 2 lbs. I am fighting Hyper Insulin Resistance, with my fighting Prostate enlargement and cancer. p.s. Over past year, waste line down from 48" to 42" and weight down from 239 to 207 on various Keto approaches. But need to lose more in both areas; been stuck for six months! NO sugar products in house; only use Stevia in small amounts. Since new to your site; will update you in a month if interested for info gathering.

How about vitamins in pill form? such as; ZINC, B COMPLEX, MAGNESIUM, OMEGA 3, PROBICOTICS?
They will probably go straight through you since there is no food to absorb them

Both together are definitely the best! I would have to say low carb/keto because they mimic a lot of the benefits of fasting (keeping insulin low, etc.) 🙂
Definitely low carb. Intermittent fasting will not help you if you go full bore with pizza, ice cream, and potato chips during your eating window.
What about taking vitamins and supplements? Does that break a fast?
If they are electrolyte supplements, they won't break a fast (assuming no sugar is in them). Something like vitamin D will technically break a fast though.
Different fasting programs allow for different allowances in terms of calorie intakes. Usually an IF program allows up to 200 calories during fasting periods without drastically affecting your fast. However, you want to prioritize carb-free supplements such as Omega-3s or Collagen Peptides. My almond milk has 1 carb and 1gm of fiber an cancel out. No sugar. This doesn't break a fast when I put in my coffee ?? Dr Berg , his channel, says unsweetened almond milk doesn't break a fast. What is your opinion?
