Thanks to Dr. Fung I now fast 16 to 18 hours every day! After becoming fast adapted, I continued onto to a Keto diet, then onto Carnivore to restrict the amount of carbohydrate intake during my eating window. Keto worked for me, although rather slowly. Carnivore expedited the weight loss. I now weigh what I did in high school (at age 63). I take no medications. That whole calories in, calories out model we were taught for years was such a waste of time and effort. Although Carnivore is not for everyone, I feel like Dr. Fung has given us all the foundation to proper health recovery. Thank you Dr. Fung for all you do!

Thank you Dr. Fung. Your science just answered a puzzling question I had for more than 10 years. That's when I decided to improve my eating habits and include breakfast which I rarely ever ate. Instant Oatmeal was quick to prepare and my breakfast of choice. To my surprise I found myself getting hungry by 10 am which never happened when I wasn't eating anything before. By the time I went to lunch at about 11:30 I was always ravenous and felt like I could eat a horse. Also, the intense hunger made it more difficult for me to concentrate and I found myself making more mistakes in my work. Gave it up after about a month. 5 years ago, after a terrible visit to my Dr. I started Keto. Lost 50 pounds and kept it off without breakfast or hunger. Thank you Dr. Fung and Dr. Westman. At 65 I feel better than I did in my 30's.

Hey Doc! I am so thrilled to share my incredible weight loss journey with you over the past two months. At 71 years old and formerly obese, I reached my highest weight of 98 kg. After delving into various videos, including yours, I initially lost weight but felt weak and started losing muscle mass.
Then, I stumbled upon your interview about the "obesity code" and the science behind it. Inspired, I invested in a fitness watch and a set of scientific digital scales to track my progress. Following your advice, I started a new program - walking 26000 steps a day and eating clean when hungry, focusing on a diet of vegetables and meat.
Now here's the exciting part - I have a major sweet tooth, but I've made a breakthrough. I replaced my go-to treats of ice cream and chocolate with frozen fruits like oranges, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Eating them frozen mimics the experience of ice cream but without the guilt!
Today, I am ecstatic to report that I've dropped to 82 kilos and I am consistently losing 1 kg every week. I cannot thank you enough for your scientific approach to weight loss that truly works! Thank you!

When I was a high wholegrain vegetarian I had severe problems with satiety so I ate oats as it was meant to be very satisfying.. I ate organic steel cut oats - generally on their own or maybe with full fat natural greek yoghurt.
They made me as hungry as alcohol does.! I checked on various nutritional forums and lots of people were saying ' oats do not satisfy hunger ' . In my case even the steel cut organic ones do not .
In my experience - not having breakfast controls hunger better than any carb based one .✌️

I did a 44 hour water fast a few years ago. I'm currently on a water fast again and I'm up to 90 hours. I'm feeling pretty good, so I might push it to 5 days (120 hours). I've had lemon and lime in my water, green tea, and black coffee... not a lot of those things but it has helped with the cravings

Dr. Fung teaches some 'truth' about diets, dieting, fasting, and how to eat healthy.
He is Not 'The Truth'. 'The Truth' is Jesus Christ and Him alone. (John 14:6)
Dr. Fung does an immense amount of good with his teaching for which I am thankful. His teachings, I believe, contain a lot of truth which he supports with valid research.

I want to share something which reminded me of one of the general themes in the work of Jason Fung. This is by Vernon Howard, a little-known but great modern thinker, from a book called "Inspire Yourself":
    THE TREACHEROUS ROCKS
A wandering tribe settled along the bank of a rushing river. The land on the other side of the river looked pleasant, so the people placed large rocks in the water in an attempt to walk across. But the stones shifted positions so treacherously that the people splashed down into the water, cold and irritable. Their failure continued over the years.
Oddly, whenever a stranger wanted to reach the other shore, the villagers recommended the rocks. More oddly, few strangers ever asked, "How come you recommend the rocks when they have done nothing but make you miserable and frustrated?"
No matter how traditional or how highly recommended, false methods for reaching the other shore can only cause frustration.

Thank you, Sugar is a cheap and fast pleasure( dopamine)!!! People eat for pleasure and not energy.
the faster glucose level go up, the faster it comes down , creating more hunger ! Sugar is a mental health problem, it is addiction, sugar is cheaper, legal and safer pleasure( dopamine ) than drugs and alcohol, you can have anywhere anytime , any age!

Dr. Fung could you please address the question of hypothyroidism/ Hashimoto's and intermittent fasting. I have been doing intermittent fasting and minimal carb for four years as of May 2020 and stopped losing weight after 2 months of good success. It wasn't until I developed a large goiter that the doctors took me seriously about my hypothyroid symptoms. I then had to fight and argue to get to a endocrinologist who was willing to try treating me with levothyroxine. All that many of them want to do is push Ozempic. After three months of minimal dose levothyroxine I have finally started loosing again. I am not a quitter and have continued with intermittent fasting because I believe the science that you and Dr. Sarah Hallberg have sited and promote. I'm sure other frustrated angry souls have faced the same thing I have.

For me when I eat husk oat grain I dont need food for a long time,. One thing tha I experience is that grain as nature give to us, soak over night like legumes and cooked like legumes dont give many issues. I notice that if we eat low quantaty there is no issue to. If you eat animal that are feed with modified corn is mutch worse.

Why do they still teach carb counting instead of focusing on this? I was turned down for bariatric surgery because as a RN and diabetic I couldn’t sit silently as they failed a class full of adults with the same old lies. In the community I see elementary kids with type 1 who they are encouraging not to eat the right way. I make sure they and their parents know better.

Makes sense, but also proves why i need carbs in my life. I weight lift heavily. And if im bulking then i need to eat. But when i do low or no carbs i end up not having an appetite at all.l especially with carnivore, which is why i couldnt do it. I literally had no desire to eat. 😅
