@@miguelmejia4656 → I only just now saw your response so this is a bit delayed. I was told I have Type-II. At age 71 I've known this for 10 years (since surgery to have my whole colon removed). I was at blood sugar of 180+ fasting and 412 at ½ to 1 hr after eating. My BMI was in the overweight class. A1c was 8.8 and has been as high as 14.4 2 years ago. BP was 150+/90+ (some variance) Pulse 92. Triglycerides 927. HDL 30. LDL Terrible acid reflux that prevented me from sleeping often. So I figured that drastic measures are needed.
For my conditions I was taking lisinopril for BP, gemfibrozil and glemiperide for elevated triglycerides.
A month ago, 4 months after start of regiment, I had a medical check up for the Type-II which the doctor calls me in for every 6 months. At that time blood was drawn. My new stats: sugar 98 that morning, Gets up to 142 at 1 hr after eating in last few weeks but comes down fairly fast, BMI 23.5, A1c 5.6, BP 112/68, pulse 69, Triglycerides 231 (needs to come down under 149), HDL 77 (should be > 39), absolutely NO acid reflux since begin of low carb diet. The results, according to the PA, are remarkable and I was able to regale her with the whole story. She said she would check into some of the statements I made such as "you can't eat too much of the good fats" and "salt is very good for you".
I stopped taking all meds. I haven't even taken an ibu or aspirin for years.
I have pedaling device under my desk and pedal when I'm at the PC - the Inmotion e1000. It's not as good as really cycling but I'm not able to do that for medical reasons having to do with no colon.
      Thanks for asking.

@@caronamala438 → please see response to Miguel. I consider mine a true success story. The only problem is that I have only 2 pants left that won't fall off and my wedding band has fallen off a few times. I had been in size 38 territory and a month before I decided to do this I had purchases some shorts. Even 34s are getting loose now. The old clothes will end up at GoodWill. I never wore some of them.
Another thing that sort of bothers me is that I can not hold cold things, not even a can of tomato juice. My fingers freeze too fast. I wear pot mittens to take stuff out of the freezer. Also, I've tried drinking a cocktail now and then and it gets me tipsy in a hurry. Not much fun. Back in the day I did my share of drinking so it's not as if I don't know how.
I know this is not for everybody. At the beginning I told myself I would fast for 10 days or until my fasting sugar came under 100. That only took 5 days.
Some of the things I enjoyed don't even interest me anymore - bread, potatoes, beer, and many carb "foods" which are really not necessary for the body. I recommend youtubing Dr. Fong, Dr. Ken Berry, and many others to get the last 15 years' of research from all over the world. These people are not selling anything, they just want to make us healthy.

Almost 59 now, I have been fasting and eating low/no carb for about 9 months now. I will do a 48 hr once a month and a 36 hr every week, OMAD in between time. My weight went from 235 to 175, blood pressure down to normal and the big one, a reduction in Triglycerides, my dad is Type 2 and I want nothing to do with that. Anyone just getting into this, it is tough at first, hunger pangs can be quite persuasive. Stick it out however and it gets much easier to continue when the results are so positive.

For example, cucumber water is that safe and if it is safe what about ingesting the cucumbers too(which I assume eating the cucumber will break the fast but my question is whether or not the water infused with cucumber will break a fast?) or a cucumber/ carrot tea. As well as onion tea are those gonna break a fast? Also, what’s the strict definition of breaking a fast what does that mean?(ie, what does it do to your body when you break a fast??) Thank you for reading and any helpful comments will be much appreciated!

I have been intermittently fasting on a daily basis (used to do 16/8, whereas I now do OMAD - around 20-22 hours fasted everyday) for about 2 years. I used to drink black coffee while fasting as 1) I love coffee and 2) it's a powerful combo when combined with the intrinsic mental clarity and efficiency that fasting enables.
However, after watching Dr Rhonda Patrick on the Joe Rogan Podcast where she explained that anything other than water starts the timer so to speak on the digestive enzymes that work within the body, I opted for water only. It makes sense when you consider that coffee obviously has to be processed and broken down in some way for the polyphenols to aid in autophagy etc.
I'm unsure if this has any impact on the effectiveness of fasting but just thought that it is worth noting. I would be interested to hear your thoughts Thomas.
Either way, fasting is an incredibly powerful tool that has truly changed my life.

i guess it just depends on what your goal is with the fast! if its for a gut reset or autophagy its probably better to avoid them. if its to get into ketosis or lose weight, it should be okay. but at the end of the day its not a really big deal, and if someone really loves cream in their coffee they shouldnt restrict themselves too much :)

    1) When you say lemon and lime juice, does this incorporate cordial with added water - or pure lemon and lime juice?
    2) Do supplements such as vitamin D and multivitamin tablets break a fast?

    • @JC-li8kk
      @JC-li8kk 3 года назад +3

I wouldn’t recommend taking vitamins on an empty stomach. You should be okay for a few days without them. Your body will digest the vitamins stored in your fat.

    • @Yosetime
      @Yosetime 2 года назад +2

Vitamins and supplements should always be eaten WITH real food. That way the body recognises them as nutrients and will process them properly. There may be some exceptions but when you think about breaking a fast, just remember that whatever forces your body to start it's digestive system is breaking a fast.
With regards to the lemon and lime juice, he means adding a little fresh lemon or lime, or even the concentrated stuff, to your water. NOT pure juice alone.

Use ACV and properly made sauerkraut and heal your gut. Heartburn medicines are H2 blockers and disrupt your gut-they hide symptoms but allow worsening of gut dysbiosis, which is a severe imbalance of good vs bad gut bacteria. An Australian doctor proved that untreated gut bacterial infections cause 100% of later seriously acute gut issues (mouth, esophageal, bowel cancers) You can fix this risk by healing your gut. No more masking agents. Thomas teaches good gut health practices.
Also note-many reflux issues come from the bacterial overgrowth also, and or consuming food allergens.

There's lots of electrolyte powders out there. The ones that are JUST electrolytes will not break your fast and will actually help you. Also, just adding some pink salt or sea salt to your liquids will help keep your electrolytes balanced. Don't be shy with the salt! But NEVER use regular table salt that is iodized. That stuff will kill you! Always a pure mineral salts like pink or sea salt. Use a grinder and you're good to go.

Dr Berg recommends less because he counts autophagy as a part of protein metabolism. its just completely not a simple question and it varies even further based on goals, weight loss vs muscle gain.

Here i am trying to prepare mentally for a fast on my next day off. Fasted once a few years back for 7 days and lol my sense of smell was so heightened, I was pinning pictures of food on Pinterest late at night. That was a water fast. I think this time I'm just going to try a 48 hr fast with these recommended drinks and hopefully do better.

Ill just drink water. When dry fasting i get headeaks towards the end of my fast it maybe due to not drinking water.

I am so confused you say no to bone broth and Dr Berg says its ok. Please help.

The difference is fasting versus ketosis.
Bone broth will break a fast, it will not kick you out of ketosis.

When you say "Electrolytes" are OK, are you talking about those
    Emergen-C packets, or
    Nuun Tablets,
    SiS,
    GU hydration tablets?

Hmmm, would be cool to watch you and Dr. Berg in a video together, discussing your disagreements. It's hard to decide who's advice to take when you're getting very similar advice with pieces of information that are completely different.

I agree. Different information and opinions. I'm at odds here.
