Hi Thomas, can you make a video on how to accelerate metabolism - in case we accidentally slowed it down through a prolonged, imperfect fasting regime?
35 hours in, going til 72 :D. 18 years old and my first time doing multi-day fasting and i feel awesome, cant wait to feel the success of getting to hour 72
@@davidclark6749since he didn't answer, I'll give you my results over the past 11 days - I did 4 days 20-22 hours fasts, then a 36 hour fast, then 3 more days 20-22 hour fasts, then a 48 -- I ate less than 1500 calories of clean food and smoothies for my meals... Started at 254 and this afternoon at the end of my 48 weighed 233, so I lost 21 pounds in 11 days. Only water with keto Chow drops, black coffee and tea while fasting. This is with zero exercise. I feel fantastic - my mind is clearer, I have 2 to 3x more energy, gut and digestive track feel 100% better, ... Mind and body is just 100% clearer and better feeling.
Every time I do a 48 hour fast I watch this video, no matter how many times I have watched it, it keeps me current on what's actually happening within my body and helps me feel more focused on my goals. I've lost count on how many times I've watched this video lol
Oblong thats awesome 🤩 sending all good energy! For me, It went very smoothly except few hunger pangs during lunch times. Going to do it again in start of July. 🥳
That is so funny. As I'm reading this now, I am 24.5 hours into it. Just over half way there. This is my first time doing this, so hopefully I'll make it the rest of the way. I'll be honest, I'm getting pretty hungry lol. So well see!
i do it to keep my alcohol & drug addiction under control & it’s been working . im too hangry about when i gotta eat i don’t get drug cravings . a real blessing for me
@@n8liftslessthanyou he never answered but I'm similar. Practically I'm 8 months "sober" via carnivore with OMAD 20-23 hours. Recently had a hiccup and drank again but it was "under control" but I know this trap and I'm sure you do too. So after 3 days back on the wagon and decided a 3 day fast and 30 hours in no issues other than normal discomfort. Well I hope your path works for ya. It's not easy but nothing we can't accomplish
I suffered a traumatic brain injury 6 years ago and have had this on going fatigue issue ever since. After getting the best help available, nothing seemed to be working. Now I'm currently 40 hours in on my first prolonged fast and WOW! The mental clarity is insane, I have never felt so sharp!
I had a stroke 3 months ago so I definitely understand the fatigue.I had to take a break from grad school because I can't focus well.I'm fasting now, without letting my family know.
Would love some updates on how it's going. I'm going to do my first 48 next week. I was OMAD for a year and have scaled down to IF in order to do some longer fasts.
Good for you. When I started fasting I was concerned about getting my work done at work, but instead found that I’m lazer focused after the 24 hour mark.
Try meditation bro it is helpful too I'm sure it'll help a lot fixing your brain (everyone's really, I meditate partly to have better mental clarity and in hope to fix the "damage" weed addiction has done to my brain)
Watching this on my 40 hour fasting, 8 more to go. I never thought I was capable of doing it and it feels great, I’m empowered now. I can do hard things! 💪🏻
i am a non stop eater, never imagined i'd be fasting. my stomach hurts all the time, probably cos of overeating, but i m not fat as i dont eat junk food. and i do new things for a challenge. i started fast on wednesday afternoon and now its nearly saturday afternoon. ive been drinking electrrolytes and herbal tea. and doing some excercise as well. my stomach is not hurting, my body feels very relaxed. i m not craving food, i got the food right in front of me, but not tempted to eat. this is my first fast, i totally recommend it. it is after watching this video that really convinced me.
S Nandra you are not a non stop eater then if you aren’t fat. It doesn’t matter what you eat junk food or healthy food. If you eat to much healthy food you will be in a caloric surplus so you will gain weight. I’m sorry to tell you but you don’t defy science 👍🏼
Fantastic guys l now do 36hrs every 3 weeks. 1.2kg down on my fasting days. Try to do your workouts at the end of your fasting. Half an hour out of breaking your fast make yourself a cinnamon tea and add a little PHS so you don't get that insulin spike. Remember bone broth personally is my favorite to break my fast. Then wait 60min and eat normal KETO. Good luck to all. Huge thanks to Thomas for your guidance, down 15kgs.
That's amazing... listen...I'm adapted to one meal a day no problem...but it's scary to try 48...it's like swimming in the shallow end of the pool to the deep parts...any advise on how to handle this fear?
@@richardlawson6787 Eat a high fat high protein meal before starting. I had a 16 ounce ribeye, lobster bisque, & green beans. I wasn’t really planning on doing a 48 hour fast until I finished the meal. Felt like it would hold me over for 2 days easily. Just make sure to go to bed before you get hungry the next night.
@@richardlawson6787 I eat breakfast before I start so I start in the morning and then I drink black coffee throughout the day. Also eat sea salt too. Always helps with my salty cravings which is my weak spot. Honestly though it's all in your head. You have to just do it and remind yourself that your strong. Also keep yourself distracted. That always helps
60 hours into my fast. Not even trying. Just going to see where this could go. But i have been doing 1-3 day fasts for a while. And have just eliminated added sugars, processed sugars, non natural carbs. And been hitting the gym. Being strict has been the best thing for me. Im down from 333 lbs to 277 lbs in 5 months
I do alternate day fasts for weight loss. I have a lot to lose. Down 40 pounds since September 29. I've never felt so good or had so much energy in my adult life. Love your channel Thomas, keep spreading the word!! Life changing stuff !
@@ArdiMuluk it wasn't easy to get used to, it took me 2 years of omad to realize I needed longer fasts to get the results I am after. I also incorporated keto to help me get appetite correction. I fast 42 and I'm not going to lie, it's not always easy. I drink lots of mineral water, green tea and coffee during the fast. Stay busy and keep your eye on the prize.
I did 36 last week and I’m gonna go for 48! I was so proud of myself lol! Mostly I wanna just enjoy what I eat again and be present - and appreciate food. Fasting really makes me feel more present and overall just grateful for the food in front of me!
@@koalawithchaingun53 Awesome! I just finished a 42-hour fast, and am regretting that I didn't just go the remaining six hours to make it a full 48-hour fast. But now I know how easy it is! I had done intermittent fasting for two weeks prior to the 42-hour and I think it made it a lot easier.
The longest I’ve done is 120 hours or 5 days. I felt great and reset my body, mind, and emotions. I’ve been fasting for years. Longest are 15 day juice fast, 11 day water fast, and a little over 5 hour fry fast. I also do short fasts every so often and intermittent as well. It’s all good. Just have to make sure you change your lifestyle or you will go back to eating same foods.
I've been practicing 24 hr fast 1x a week, 72 hr 1x per month and 7 day fast 1x per quarter and I've experienced so many benefits, including never getting sick over the past year and improvements in my skin. When I come off of a 72+ hour fast it gives me so much confidence and motivation and bolsters my self-discipline in all areas of my life. There's just really so much to be said for feeling as though you're not being mastered by anything. I really enjoy fasting. Plus the joys of delayed gratification are insane. It helps to be more intentional with food; even those bland re-feeding foods are SO intensely delicious after 7 days. I eat slowly just to enjoy the amazing experience. I love the reset.
Wow, I’m doing 32h dry fast every week And thinking of a longer one but with less frequency - once a month I guess I don’t need to drop weight - u really like my shape. It’s more of mental training.
I just checked my clock. Hit 48 hours and now considering another 24 hours. I have done a 5 day fast on one occasion. This is so so imformative. Thank you.
@@slickrick5596 during fast is ok and even good but never after just breaking fast, you will definitely get dirrhea if you take supplement just after fast break and a 500+kcal meal

I did a 48 hour fast yesterday, it wasn’t as bad as I thought I was. I usually do a 24 hour fast and I manifested I’d complete a 48 hour fast. I was planning to do 24, then 29 but when I was at 29 I knew I could keep going so I did. Keep hydrated guys! You can do it
Does fasting improve sleep quality? I’m insomniac and I don’t wanna take sleeping pills. I’ve literally tried everything out there but nothing seems to work. I haven’t done fasting, so I wanna see if that could help improve my sleep.
Fasting for 42 hours for the first time this week totally relieved me of anxiety. I feel like a different person. It’s weird and great. I will be keeping it up.I think anxiety comes from the gut.
Good job!!! I’m 24 hours into a 48 hour water fast and I’m holding tight! My body just switched over to burning ketones! 💪🏻👍🤙🏻 Any tips to make it the next 24 hours? I’m surprisingly not that hungry either!
I've done multiple 48 hour fast and when i get to about hour 36 i'm no longer hungry. I actually just eat at 48 hours because that was my goal and my body always feels amazing. Great info. keep it coming. 🤜🤛💪💪
I have been fasting for a few years. Gradually going into different types and lengths. From 3 day juice fast, to 3 day dry fast, to a 40 day water fast. Fasting is a blessing and a secret weapon!
@@Matt-ox2qc Every situation is different. For me, as a follower of Jesus, I only fast when prompted to do so in faith. When I’ve tried to fast without instruction from the Lord, I’m like unable to. There’s no grace for it. It’s really difficult. So I’m not sure what others perspectives are. The health benefits are real, but they’re not my main purpose or pursuit typically.
@@Matt-ox2qc I managed 37 days. I was cautious and through a lot of research handled it pretty well (I was cranky for the first 7-10 days but after that I adjusted, lol). The MOST important thing is to make sure to supplement with electrolytes and to make sure you are supervised by a doctor who is knowledgeable. I did it on my own and was fine but it can be very dangerous.
@@annereilly1056 I was not. But finishing the 40 days I had trouble breaking the fast. My body needed electrolytes so I went to the hospital for an iv. I recommend seeking wise council, and if you’re a Christian following Jesus in a fast for spiritual reasons, then I recommend accountability and confirmation through whatever spiritual covering/leadership is in your life. Be humble; fasting isn’t a competition. And your body is a temple. It needs to be cared for and nurtured. Not neglected or abused. If you’re motive is for physical reasons and not spiritual then I recommend going through a medical professional and seeking council and guidance through them. Either way, medical professionals are there to help and assist so seek their guidance too! I sought a doctor on one of my fasts and with their words I went forward with it in confidence, though the idea for fasting was rooted in my faith and spiritual reasons. This is more so a public comment for all to see! :) Use discretion and take care of your body 👍🏼

After reading through a lot of the comments I am impressed with the commitment that so many people are putting into taking control of their body and their health. Count me in as well.
Started Friday at 5:15 pm it’s Sunday at 9:30. Feeling so much better. Not hungry. I was anxious but started watching YT and realized I was eating out of fear of not having access to food. Once I learned more, I implemented mind over matter and my life is transformed along with my mind. I’m at 42 and was depressed every time I looked at myself in the mirror. I can do this and so can anyone reading this post! Mind over matter is a real thing!
We eat out of habit. After you fast for three days you actually stop feeling hunger. Afterwards I have stopped being hungry, or maybe it is just it doesn't affect me? My problem is with mind clarity. Sorry but I just don't feel it, lol, I am thinking too much about how I am not eating, and maybe about something tasty I want to eat later.
I try to do a 40 hour fast weekly, and the rest of the days I do 17 hour fasts. I have about 65 lbs to lose, but after researching fasting, I also love the healing and autophagy. I used to suffer from ulcer pain in my stomach for years and years. Since starting on an intermittent fasting lifestyle, my stomach has completely healed. I used to binge eat and feel addicted to candy and potato chips. After becoming a faster, I crave absolutely none of that anymore. It has been AMAZING. I feel so clean and strong after 40 hours of fasting. I will get to 48 hours someday, but for now, 40 hours feels right for me :)
@GodofThicc912 I actually now do a 40 hour fast every 3 days. I have an 8 hour eating window 2 days in a row (usually 11 am- 7 pm) then fast for the entire 3rd day and night, which brings me to 40 hours, then opens my eating window again at 11 am on the 4th day. I have lost 30 lbs and feel so strong, healthy and energized! Headaches, foot pain and gastritis I used to suffer from are gone. I will keep this up until I hit my goal weight then I will scale back a bit.
@@NessaK1981awesome job! Ive lost nearly 20 lbs in the past month cutting out alcohol, eating better, fasting and exercising but i still get massive cravings for snacks in the evening. Coming home is the toughest part of the day.
Why do they not recommend 72 hour fasting once a week ? I feel super good. My blood work is good. Anyone doing 48 to 72 hour fast weekly til weight loss is achieved ?
Given my lifestyle it is not too hard for me to do a 48 hour fast every week. I am just starting, three weeks already. I feel less bloated, SEEM to have lost a few ounces. My stomach has shrunk so I get sated faster. I am hoping that doing THIS will allow me to eat what I want(NOT MacDonalds)while losing weight and staying healthy.
I recently started longer fasts and once I pass the 28 hr mark, my hunger is totally gone. 48 is a sweet spot. Any longer and I suffer metabolically later in the week. My ketones get high during my fast and even after I break my fast, they are actually higher the next day. I wake up with glucose in the low 60’s, ketones above 2, and then I find I drop about 3-4 lbs within the next 3 days. This is big for me because I am 57, have RA and Hashimoto’s and had my metabolism destroyed by years of veganism and prescription steroids for my joints. Only 48 hr fasting has been helping restore my metabolism, soothe my joint inflammation, and lose weight. I have lost 120+ lbs but been in a 2 year plateau with 2 rounds of steroids this year for inflamed ribs and sternum with a fever. Only recently have I begun losing weight again. I have 30 more lbs to go. I won’t give up.

@@InfoByAC doing great, I am on 36 hrs. I definitely find Himalayan salt in my water helps with the feeling of being drained (which isn't too bad btw). I did an intermittent fast the day before I started this one and have been on keto for 3 weeks. I will break my fast this evening but to be honest, right now I feel I could do 72 hrs easily. I won't though because this is my first long fast. Thanks for asking. Update: I finished my first 48hr fast last evening. It went very well and other than feeling a bit sluggish at times, I feel I could do a 72hr fast next. My only advice to those who do a long fast is "do not watch evening television, the food commercials are around 5 food to 2 products. Lol

The first time is the hardest. Then you actually stop being hungry. Lol, and your stomach shrinks so you get full faster. It is not that I am losing weight fast but I feel lighter and with more energy. I am a lazy person so I just combine fasting with some light, regular exercise and I THINK I am doing well. Without much effort.
I’m on keto and IF 20/4 about one and half month, but not losing lower belly .So I decide to try long term fasting. Now I’m over 48 hours and planing to keep it for another 18 hours before break. Belly shrink a lot on the second day. I’m taking trace minerals, sea salt , green tea and apple acid vinegar drink. And doing strength training less than 30 mins. This’s my first time. Thomas’s videos are huge help
I just survived a nearly 24-hour fast today and now I am thinking about a 48-hour one! Never thought I would survive a fast longer than 16 hours! I am getting strong (thanks to you, Thomas)!
@@Peter-ri9ie I break my fast with bone broth; that is when I have some ready at hand. Where I live they don't come in a can and I have to buy the bones and boil them over night and go through a couple of more steps, but it is totally worth it. I follow Thomas's guidelines and wait 30 mins before eating one third of my meal, and then wait another 60 mins and then have the rest of my meal. And doing the workouts while fasted, my, that has worked miracles in my life!

Doing a 48 fast before I start alternate day fasting. I want to be in ketosis before I start. Trying to lose weight before Air Force OTS. I'm hoping to get mental clarity, better focus, less cravings etc. I've been doing 18:6 IF on and off for months sometimes getting up to 20 and 21 hours fasting. I'm excited. Saw a comment on another video saying they implemented IF into their fish's diet and the fish lived so long. Don't let anyone discourage you! So many videos saying this is fad and this is starvation, they're lying and want unhealthy ppl. Those big pharma myths are real! They literally make money off unhealthy ppl who depend on medicine. Heal your bodies! I don't drink coffee but green tea, salt water with lemon, lime or acv will really keep you going.

We are SO used to eating. It is more a habit than a need. I just finished my weekly 48 hour fast. I plan to moderately indulge myself the rest of the week with some mainly homemade dishes. I think that a thing to try would be eating a couple of bananas or yogurts instead of the meals we skip. Feeds the habit without actually replacing the amounts of food.
@@byoungermama You really need to try and get all of your nutritional needs met. So yea, eat all of your calories, or as close as you can, in the one meal.
Not sure if I can do this because I can't eat anything more than a small amount in one sitting. So if I only eat one meal a day I might be eating some vegetables dipped in hummus and a handful of blueberries before I'm full. I refuse to gorge myself, so I've had to stick to a two or three-hour eating window in order to get in enough calories.

I went from being 5’10 185 pounds very athletic to being 225 pounds and absolutely a shell of my former self. On May 15th I saw old pictures of myself and looked in the mirror and decided to go on this Keto journey along with my PT. My goal was to reach 200 pounds by July 8th my 26th birthday and I can proudly say that now in June 20th I weighed in at 205. Your videos and scientific approach to Keto have given me my confidence back and desire to become the guy I used to be before my injuries and health issues.
So I do a 36-48 hour fast every weekend. I really look forward to it. Generally when I am about 15 hours into the fast...let's say 2p on sunday, I find that's when I start to feel "hungry". This is my body seeking carbs. You just have to get past this moment. That's when I lift weights. Afterwards I take my electrolytes. Usually afterwards I am not hungry. At night I take some melatonin. In the following morning around 36 hr mark I am not hungry. I feel amazing. Clear headed. High almost. I meditate. Then I ride my bike. Hard. And I feel a jolt of energy. They say Fasting can stimulate human growth hormone and I definitely feel a surge. When I break my fast I try to limit carbs so I can ease my body back into it's normal flow. And I intermittently fast thru the rest of the week. I lost 20 lbs doing this even though I was in bed for three months from a hip injury.
i am 43hrs into a fast and i have been doing at least 16hr fasts for 8 days before. im currently 12.6lbs in the past 10 days. i started at 286.2lbs. im currently 273.8lbs
@@jorgeguerrero4353 how do you keep electrolytes up during fasting when you can't have any intakes? Thought you can only take I'm water, or black coffee or tea (with no sugars/milk) ect.
I unintentionally fasted for 48 hours. I had a mental breakdown and couldn’t keep food down for 48 hours. Since then I’ve felt different. In some ways better, in other ways, not myself. I went from 3 coffees a day for 20 years to 1 coffee every few days. In some ways I don’t like how I feel now or who I am. This video is helpful.
I watched this video about 3 months ago and I came back to comment. I did my first ever 48 hour fast at 28 years old after slowly gaining weight as I got older. Doing a fast has changed my whole perception on food. I snack a lot less, I eat smaller portions, I don't get tempted by Mcdonalds when I drive past. I now eat once a day, at tea time. I have been slowly loosing weight without any additional exercise.
I ended up a little more "filled" after the weekend, and decided not to eat yesterday. I plan to start with a lean meal after lifting weights this afternoon.
@@Peter-ri9ie I start with Hot Bone Broth and maybe sardines. Wait an hour and then have maybe a salad with Chicken and mayo and some pecans. Sometimes I heat up unsweatened HEMP milk and put in some Four Sigmatic Cocoa

Great video, Thomas. I do OMAD five days in the week, and one forty-eight hour fast through the weekend. This keeps me lean year-round. Thanks for all your valuable information.
@@bloome388 I do it to stay lean year round. Once in a while, I will reduce the amount of days I fast and eat more freely just to live a little bit (lol). This usually leads to about 5 to 10 lbs of fat gain, but it takes just a few weeks of OMAD to burn it off and lean up again. I'm on the bigger side at 6'5," and I usually eat about 2,800 to 3,000 calories a day. I also stay really active at work.

used to do omad for 4 years then started 46 hour rolls with 2 hour eating window , so now i eat around 4500 calories after fasting for 46 hours and then again start a 46 hour fast and also i workout 1.5 hour a day. I got clearer smoother tighter skin and mental clarity also we go into 100% ketosis after 24 to 30 hours depends on what you ate in eating window and also now im building muscle without getting any fat . 40 days???? I thought you die around 30 days of no food

I just survived a nearly 24-hour fast today and now I am thinking about a 48-hour one! Never thought I would survive a fast longer than 16 hours! I am getting strong (thanks to you, Thomas)!
MissPersia8 What do you eat when you break a longer(ish) fast, say 24hrs or more?
@@Peter-ri9ie I break my fast with bone broth; that is when I have some ready at hand. Where I live they don't come in a can and I have to buy the bones and boil them over night and go through a couple of more steps, but it is totally worth it. I follow Thomas's guidelines and wait 30 mins before eating one third of my meal, and then wait another 60 mins and then have the rest of my meal. And doing the workouts while fasted, my, that has worked miracles in my life!
MissPersia8 thanks! 🙏🏻

I've lost 17KG - 5 inches from my waist, bust and hips - since I first watched one of your videos (8 months ago). I never thought I was capable of transformation but you made me believe that it's possible. I am so grateful, I can't describe! The balance you strike between being informative, kind but realistic and firm is like nothing else I've ever seen. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
Good work! 👏
Good work Imogen can we get an update at all? Got any tips
My wife and I fast Monday’s and Friday and OMAD the rest of the time. Feel great knowing we do not have to eat and still have same energy!
In hour 42 on my 48hour fast. I feel awesome. Thank you for wonderful information.
I just did my first fast longer than 30 hours. I made it to 70 hours, was aiming for 72 but still it’s a win! It really did reset me. I was grazing so much and snacking. Now I’m back to 2 meals and one snack.
First time Im doing prolonged fasting! I'm 84 hrs into my 96 hrs fast at the moment.
I do a wet fasting, drinking herbal drink and black coffee with Himalayan salt! Not feeling tired at all. No dizziness. I can't exercise though, just going to work normally and running the household cooking for family etc. Surprising I dont feel attempted to eat food. So far I lost 4.7 kg.
OMG I never knew this benefits b4. Thank u. 🙏
Ik this was a while ago but How did you break this fast?
@@mlx9094 if I could turn back the clock I may not ve done it. I did the prolonged fast twice and it messed up my hormone. My period was v late next month, I entered Perimenopause too soon at 43 yrs. My metabolism slowed down as my hormone dropped.I may ve put my body into famine mode. When I broke my fast I wanted to eat everything. I ended up putting on 1 stone 1-2 months after. Still trying to lose that weight, not easy now with Perimenopause. 😓😥
MLx I’m no expert but if you are a woman I would advice only doing 48 - 60 hour fasts as to not effect your hormones
@@caitlinmcdonough4345 I wished I knew that b4! Now I'm eating no oil, more good carbohydrates and veg. My hormones feels better, getting regular period again. Also losing back half a stone without dieting. Eating regular 3 meals a day, gentle jog! No more prolonged fasting!

On your one meal a day do you eat your daily calories? And how long did that take you? Congrats! That’s sooo amazing
What time frame was this In because that is awesome
@@byoungermama You really need to try and get all of your nutritional needs met. So yea, eat all of your calories, or as close as you can, in the one meal.
Hi CDUB 🙌
Not sure if I can do this because I can't eat anything more than a small amount in one sitting. So if I only eat one meal a day I might be eating some vegetables dipped in hummus and a handful of blueberries before I'm full. I refuse to gorge myself, so I've had to stick to a two or three-hour eating window in order to get in enough calories.

Best way to complete a 48-hour fast without thinking of food : play your favorite video game for most of your awake time. I'm serious. The time will fly by.

Don't fail. It's easy
I’m 25 years old and I had left and right hip surgery to repair torn labrums and hip impingement in January/March of this year. It’s been a difficult journey for 2-3 years now. Big fluctuations in weight and overall not being able to swim, run, hike, train Jiu-jitsu..
Thank you for being a public warrior on fasting, I want more people to understand they can do this and live better, healthier lives!
