I'm 52 .I had a heart attack , my fiancé died, and then I became guardian of my 3 - and 5 year old granddaughters. This caused me to lose my full-time job and become PRN. needless to say, I was in a deep depression along with severe panic attacks. I came across you on RUclips, bought your book, and gave it a shot. I lost 15 lbs on the reset the 9 lbs the week after on a 72-hour fast. I noticed my skin was no longer dry. I'm off all depression and anxiety meds. Even though everything is still hard, I'm happy. I can see my blessings now, and I know I'm not gonna drown. I know now why fasting was always part of God's plan . Thank you.

@mrsbootsworkouts - I'm 43. I started different forms of fasting about this time, last year. I'll typically just skip breakfast on most days. I also try to get at least 2 weight-lift sessions in, per week... and started to take several supplements based on how I had been feeling. 30 pounds, down... and I find it's pretty easy to maintain. Check out Dr. Berg, here on RUclips. He covers just about everything with fasting and supplements.

@@DerisedEgami - thank you for the inspiration, it sounds amazing! I have been doing 1 or 2 36 hour fasts per week, and my weight fluctuates plus minus several pounds within a week. I will check him out, keep doing the amazing work, thank you!

@@mrsbootsworkouts - Awesome. The one thing that comes to mind is he cautions to use fasting as a "shock". Too much fasting, and the body actually becomes efficient at using less calories.... and it thus becomes a little more difficult to lose weight. I think I'm trying to pull out of this, currently. Good luck!

Dr. Pelz SO appreciate every video! I just got broke an 86 hour fast and the LMNT supplement was an absolute lifesaver all through out! I was having dental issues with a load of pain and inflammation and I have a 23 year long auto immune skin condition that acts like a barometer to let me know how much inflammation is in my body. I definitely felt the "furry", belly bloat, and major anxiety go down with the dental pain hoping that it might heal it in the long run. I just broke my fast today. The awesome thing was seeing that I was in ketosis the last couple of days so I knew I was burning through fat. Wow is that ever a wonderful feeling. It felt great to eat food again but I was very careful how I re-introduced anything into my system. Bone broth first and later a little protein, etc. I unfortunately had to cut it short as my father's birthday party is this weekend. Otherwise I was going to see if I could make it seven days. The other thing was I got my blood sugar fasting number down to 60 from the mid 90s ... I was stunned I could get it that low. Of course I was seeing around corners and had to be careful not to overdo it but electrolytes came to the rescue ... my blood pressure was 106/65 down from 120/ 78 to 138/80 on a regular basis. I barely noticed any hunger and with a post Covid lingering issue I've been having since March my brain became tact sharp and clear. I used this window of time to pray for friends who had lost their sons at middle age and to ask for some clarity in my business. The Lord always delivers when I'm fasting. Such an amazing time to hear from Him. My dentist noticed some inflammation above my gumline in my sinus cavity and it's hard to know if that's from the tooth issues I'm having with a possible crack they can't see on an x-ray or if it's a lingering issue with Covid and sinuses are causing the problem with my teeth. I've always enjoyed good dental health, so this has been new for me the last few years with menopause and issues that happen with the aging body and massive stress due to my business is booming. It's a good problem to have but the stress has really been taking a toll on my teeth from grinding. I noticed my sinuses began to drain within the first 24 hours as gross as that sounds but it sure was nice to be able to feel less of that brain fog and chronic pain that will drive you crazy. I also ordered your book and I have enjoyed every bit of the information you've given!! It keeps me motivated, and I have so learned to love fasting to keep things under control. I did a 76 hour fast last month also in an attempt to get vertigo and dental issues under control. Thank you again for all of your effort!!! I'm definitely feeling the difference and seeing the numbers move down on the scale!! I found fasting to be the best medicine there is especially done with prayer!

I was over 220lbs before, now I am around 166lbs. I must say that eating too much is really not a good thing for human. I can now fast for 24 hours without any difficulty and feel no hunger at all. I also recently did a 60-hour fast. In the first 24 hours, I even did a 3km running in 30 minutes, then from 24th-48th hour, I did a grocery shopping. I felt a little hungry around 48th hour, but it passed quickly. When I was a fat guy, I often felt hungry and could not stop eating. When I started losing weight by controlling the amout of food I ate, at the very beginning, it took around 3 weeks to change energy source from food to fat, and during that 3 weeks, it was nightmare for me. After I got used to it, the next time I ate less after a few months, it only took about 10 days to change energy source. Now I can eat 2 meals a day everyday, then start a 24-hour fast at anytime, no difficulty at all. For a 48-hour fast, I need to sleep more and reduce physical activities.
If you also want to do this kind of fast, make sure you do it step by step, do it slowly. It's a long term work, a life style change. We all have the ability of consuming our fat for energy, but as we ate too much before and almost never felt hungry, our bodies "forget" how to use our fat for energy. It takes some time for our bodyies to remember this ability.

Now that I’m looking to shock my system again- I’m fasting all month and will keep this in my workout/ diet plan. I did a 36 hour fast last week and ate one full day and I’m back to a 48 hour fast. I can’t tell you how amazing I feel. I am on hardly any food energy - and I have been dancing skipping singing in my kitchen and just want more!!. I am so happy and can’t get enough how I already look and feel. I Jumped roped for over 2 hrs yesterday. I do it 4/5 days a week and I just love it!!!! Thanks for these fasting tips. Started doing a 48+ hour fast about 4 years ago. My body LOVES. Literally have pulled me away from being diabetic. I am 43 years old. I've had so many benefits as well as all that you have mentioned. Although I did re-fracture one of my metatarsal on my foot from doing deep lunges about a month ago on day two of fasting. This was an old injury. But like a boxing fracture...once you have. I feel the same for my foot. It was easier to break again. Plus a few friends thought maybe I was nutrient deficient. When I re-broke the metatarsal because I was on the tail end of a 48 hour fast. Usually my fasts go 48-56...
Nonetheless, I love fasting. I feel aside from my injury only good things come from fasting. I love how the discipline it takes trickles down into other aspects of one's life. Thank you Mindy for your break downs. Cool factoids 🐾💯❤️

I felt quite numb, sad and 'flat', but extremely calm. Colours seemed brighter and my vision seemed much sharper. HOWEVER, I felt more buoyant in the days following the fasts (except for when PMS hit). I generally do 18-24-hour I.F. daily because it's more doable for me. This is my first time trying a 48hour fast and then are two things I wondered about; that might affect my results or the way I feel.
    1) I have a cold/flu. In some ways I thought it might help - often hunger dissipates when I’m sick. I also wondered about the power of the body to self-heal
    2) I wasn’t sure if there was a correct time of my cycle to do the 48hr specifically. Aside from the week before a period of course
I’ll look forward to trying this again in different circumstances as well.

I've done 2 of these now. The first was last summer, the last one led right up to Thanksgiving dinner. I weighed myself just before and after the Thanksgiving weekend. I actually LOST 2 lbs even after feasting. I'm guessing it's because of the increase in HGH as Mindy states in this video, which helps (significantly) with fat burning and also insulin sensitivity at that time as well.
They are pretty amazing once you get past not eating that dinner meal 24 hrs since you last ate. For me I have to just finally go to bed early so I don't violate my entire kitchen lol. After that it's cake. Wake up the following morning with ZERO issues until I finally eat again that evening at dinner time. That said, I can't imagine doing these for any longer than 48 hrs but I also remember a time when I thought there is no way I could possibly do OMAD lol. I'll be 54 next month. Lost 40 lbs in 7 months last year. 99% of the time I do 18:6 2MAD.

In order for them to be healthi(er) I mix in ragi flour, whole wheat flour, bajra flour, tofu, spinach, lentils, chillis, spinach, ginger - basically make a meal in one chapati. The kids love it. And my grandparents and their grandparents had it for every meal - and both lived a very long lively life! But now I’ve been questioning what I am making and it’s not feeling too good. Is whole wheat flour a complete no no? Any links as to what flour I should use, if any. Or is it ok if I carry on with what I am doing? It’s been hard to navigate this terrain especially living in the US but having to cook Indian foods (which i find a little more nutritious).

I had always been very lean but at 45 slowly started gaining weight despite being grain free, sugar free, organic, etc. the normal keto diet was not working. Carnivore changed it all. I am 51, 5’2”, 118 very ripped pounds and I put the 20 year olds to shame at the gym. They all ask for advice( I was very into bodybuilding in my 20s and 30s so I had a good base to start with). Now I do OMAD 3 days a week, 17-20 hour fasts 3 days a week, and one day of 13 hour fast. I have expanded the carnivore diet to add avocados, occasional sweet potatoes, berries, raw dairy products, and have maintained this weight for a year. Salad used to be my favorite meal, now it’s my cheat meal and always bloats me like a puffer fish!

I have experience with extended fasting since 2018. Up to 5 days every six weeks. When your body is not constantly digesting and metabolizing food, good things happen. Our ancestors did not eat every day. An extended fast takes a huge load off your liver and pancreas as well as promoting cell rejuvination (autophagy).
The only thing I would recommend is entering the fast from a fed ketogenic state which means eating a real food ketogenic or carnivore diet. The benefits will begin quicker and it will much more pleasant. Do not extended fast to get into ketosis. It is not necessary.

You people must be fat and overweight because at 48 hours I was so lethargic and feeling sick that I had no choice but to eat something or I would have fainted.

What if you’re at around 17-18 hours and experience tons of anxiety instead? What would that be from?
I had a hell of a time yesterday after around 18 hours up until 20 hours where I had huge amounts of anxiety.

You need Electrolytes badly. Listen to The Resetter Podcast interviews with Rob Wolf of LMNT Electrolytes and he explains why these symptoms occur. When. You fast or go low carb your body release sodium and potassium from your system in urine. We must replace them or you will feel awful.

Thank you for reinforcing what I thought was my own unique conceptions of how my body was repairing my mind when I was denying myself the toxicity of food intakes!
This is a personal challenge and satisfaction builder. This evidence is new to me, but the concept was born in the bad old days of incarceration. This is food for the brain, in and off itself. Better than the over indulgences of food for the gut, which is not as good as the food here, for the brain.
Self discipline is also better built with such information!
Thank you for helping me grow my perspectives.

    1. Do we drink water when we do 48 hours fast? How much should we drink?
    2. Can mix a drink including extra virgin coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil with apple cider vinegar, turmeric, cinnamon and lotus powder during long fasting?
    3. What supplements should we take during such long fasting to prevent losing minerals and muscle?
    4. What should we prepare before go 48 hours fasting?
    5. What foods should we prepare for breaking fast?
    6. Should we workout during 48hours fast?

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  Год назад +1

      1. Yes, staying hydrated is essential during a 48-hour fast. Aim to drink at least 8-10 cups (64-80 ounces) of water throughout the day.
      2. Mixing those ingredients during a long fast might not be ideal as it could potentially disrupt the fasting process. Stick to water, herbal tea, or black coffee during your fast.
      3. While fasting, consider electrolyte supplements or consuming a pinch of high-quality salt (like pink Himalayan salt) to maintain mineral balance. Protein supplements can help preserve muscle mass but should be taken carefully.
      4. Before a 48-hour fast, mentally prepare yourself, stay hydrated, and ensure you have a plan for breaking the fast.
      5. Prepare easily digestible foods for breaking your fast, like bone broth, a small salad, or lean protein.
      6. Light exercise like walking or yoga is generally fine during a 48-hour fast, but listen to your body and adjust your activity level as needed. Avoid strenuous workouts.

I'm on 24hrs now. I feel hungry and so tempted to eat but not really hungry. I've been feeling sh*tty, gaining weight, swollen-definitely retaining water, and unmotivated 5 days ago-premenstrual. Miserable and uncomfortable. I've been more active swimming 2x/wk, hot yoga, pilates but I do not understand the weight gain (belly fat) and the PMS. I'm 42 and my cycle has gotten steady but experiencing a lot of hormonal changes during the different stages of my cycle. Been eating healthier food. So I hope this 48hrs will help. It's been a rollercoaster feeling the past year.

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  Год назад

It sounds like you're experiencing significant hormonal fluctuations that can impact your weight and mood, especially premenstrually. Increased physical activity and healthier eating are great steps. The 48-hour fast may help reset some aspects, but considering your symptoms, consulting with a healthcare provider about your hormonal changes and their effects could offer more targeted solutions.
