Thanks a million for this video, I wanted to surprise my wife by descaling "her" machine for the first time after the light had been on for weeks; the thing ran dry during the processs and went dead! I was convinced I had done something wrong and wrecked it... Turns out the little 5 cent "non-self-resetting" thermal cutoff was indeed the culprit. I bet hundreds of people can't be bothered to look into it when this happens and just go "oh well", throw away the machine and go get a new one...kinda looks like some sort of planned obsolescence to me! Self-resetting cutoffs are all over the place, one has to wonder why the market leader chooses to skimp out on such a basic component... Thanks again for the help.

Thank You! I was descaling my Keurig and the add water light flickered once then went out. I knew I should have added water at that point, but brewed another cycle and then power cut off. I would have had to pull out my old drip coffee maker if it were not for your video. As you mentioned, it was not the easiest to take apart, but once I did, I put the smallest eye glasses screwdriver in the same spot and gently pushed. I did plug it in amd turn it on, before putting it back together, and it lit up like it was new from the box. You just saved me $55 on an Out Of Stock item. Again, Thank You for making my mornings bearable again and saving people's lives! 😆

I really wish somebody could do a more specific video about getting the damn cover off. Everybody skips the important parts. You have to both push and pull and pry from two tabs at the same time, and somehow not break it. Seems like it would require an assistant. The upper cover blocks the removal of pulling it up, it doesn't want to pull outward, and the bottom seems to be part of it, and it doesn't seem to be removable, though it probably is. I only had it for 3 months and can't return it. All I need to do is reset the damn switch but can't get the cover off without destroying it. I'm almost considering drilling a hole in the side to see if I can reach the stupid thermostat thing.

The same thing happened to me and my Keurig “Essential” (the teal one). I had bought the ‘Kuerig Starter descale kit’ and emptied the small pouch of descale fluid in the reservoir and then filled the rest of the way with water. When we started running the ‘Descale’ process the water reservoir almost completely drained (about 4 presses of the 8ozsetting) and the ‘Add Water’ light never triggered to show it was working properly and ready for the next step of running just a reservoir of clean water through it. This caused issues and we couldn’t figure out why until I searched it and seen your videos so thank you for the detailed explanation in the videos. After seeing your videos we were able to re-do the process properly and the kuerig works perfectly again. Thank you 🙌🙏

All that I can say is thank goodness that the scars from loosening the side cover face that back of the house and are not seen by passers by.
It would have been asking too of Keurig to put a reset button on the bottom side like a garbage disposal speaking of which, I've installed disposals quicker than removing that side cover. Thanks for the insight. It works again!

I may just give up and throw this thing away anyways.. i appreciate that you took the time to share how to fix stuff as opposed to consumers relying on customer service or outright tossing it, but maybe in the future show ALL the relevant steps like the dismantling, which seems to be the hardest part of this entire issue.

I was having a heck of a time trying to remove the panel... so I did the next best thing: Based on your video (roughly 1:26 in), I guesstimated the location of the thermostat reset hole and bored a 0.5" hole into the side of the machine, and presto! An access panel. With a paperclip opened out, I was able to reset the thermostat and it works!
For those with this exact machine, I bored the hole 3" from the front seam and 3.5" down from the top. I used a 0.5" chisel-point blade style bit. It made a super clean hole, sufficient to see in with a flashlight and position the paper clip. You could use a larger size if you're not certain of the location of the thermostat, based on your particular machine, if they're using the same heating element.
We've gone through other Keurig's that have died on us... and now I think they could've been saved if I'd known about the thermostat reset. Thank you for that, it's priceless info!

Just A Dad you are the man! This happened this morning when descaling this Keurig model. Was about to toss it in the trash when, on a whim, thought to search the interweb for a possible fix. You are right about how precarious taking that side off is. Felt like it was going to snap into pieces at any moment. Thankfully it didn’t. Did the paper clip thing on the thermostat. Popped the side back on (way easier in that direction) and it’s good to go. Don’t think it’s a conspiracy on Keurig’s part to make it so difficult. At the price point on this model I’m thinking it’s “make this as cost-effective a design as possible” and this is what you get. Thanks again!

Thank you. I did not take the whole cover off. I used a metal ruler, using the short straight side, Starting at the top, I inserted the ruler upward, then rotated the ruler so it's perpendicular to the machine. The purpose is to pry the lip of the cover out of the mating part. As I worked around the coffee maker I put objects (in my case bicycle tire levers) to keep the cover from sliding back into place. I just worked my way around until the cover disengaged enough where I could see the thermostat. I used my multimeter and sure enough the thermostat was open. After I inserted a pin into the hole there was continuity. I plugged the power in, turned it on. Snapping back the cover into place was easy.
As a side note, I saw gooey stuff at the bottom of the water reservoir where the water goes out. I took a bbq wood skewer and taped a q-tip at the end. Alot of yucky stuff came off. Probably best to drain the water and turn the reservoir over each morning.
Good luck to those who need to fix their machines.

I'm enjoying a K-cup of Starbucks Peppermint Mocha thanks to this video. I got a brand new unit at Goodwill and surprise it didn't work. I read in the comments how one poster drilled a hole in the side rather than take it apart so I went that route. Using the image at 2:30 as a reference, I started a hole with an old soldering iron, then slowly drilled a 1/2 inch hole with a sharp bit. My hole wasn't perfectly placed, but I did get a sim removal tool in at an angle and heard that satisfying click. I found that a large paperclip was too fat. Then I covered the hole with black electrical tape. For those who want to use this method, look at 2:30 in the video and draw a 3 inch line to the left from the vertical surface with the buttons, then 3.5 inches down from the top of the top surface edge. You should be just slightly to the right of the thermostat.

THANK YOU! I have the K-Iced Essentials and couldn't find an exact tutorial for that model but I followed these instructions and it worked perfectly. I tried to descale it and ran it dry and it tripped the fuse. I did the descale again as you suggested and the "add water" came back on. It was a pain to open and I broke a few of the clamps/connectors but thankfully it doesn't prevent it from going back on fine and the water reservoir fits. They should definitely make that easier.

Thank you thank you thank you! You are a life saver. My Keurig is a month old, and I ran the descale process (we have SUPER hard well water that kills coffee makers on an incredibly regular basis, so descaling once a month is absolutely necessary). Yup, it ran out of water and killed it! I'll be more attentive next time. Seriously, though, shame on the Keurig company! A simple access panel on the left side of the brewer would make this 1000X easier! Is my hubby drilling a hole so I don't have to go through this again? You bet!

The victim was the Keurig at our club, which wouldn't brew. The reservoir was moldy, which plugged the machine up inside. 😵‍💫 I bleached out the reservoir and once inside, disconnected the inlet valve and blew through the hose to clear out the crud from the pump. Success! 😁

Thank you so much !! We fixed our machine - yay !! It was the thermostat. This one is indeed difficult to open - it took both of us and several tools but probably couldn't have opened it without your video. We have had to replace, return and exchange😀 so many of these probably all with the same issue !

Thanks so much! Love your keurig video! I try to pry it open like you but it was so hard! so what I did is I grab a flat head screw and pry the side enough for me to get that paper clip in there. Yeah it broke some of the tab off but from now on I have access to reset it!

Ran my kuerig dry by mistake and now when I turn it on lights blink and go out. It will not brew coffee. I can run full descale and it produces hot water. I suppose I can descale brew a cup of coffee.
Have found others online with this problem but no solutions so far. Any suggestions other than buy a new kuerig?
Thanks for your videos. They were very helpful.

I used your video to do this and it worked! The panel was a little difficult to remove, but I did it with a screwdriver only. I was not able to get it flush with the top part however, so now you can tell it was removed, but since I bought it at a reduced price, as long as it works, I'm ok with it. As an side, this might be why this was returned in the first place. (Bought at Walmart, opened it and there was a used k-cup in it).

Thank you. Regarding reset button, I did not feel any click, feeling like just touched. But after that somehow it is brewing again. Panel removal was not easy. I gave up. Instead I drilled a 2 inch hole by hole saw as a service hole LOL.

did just about the same after working way too long to pry the thing apart. Used a step drill to make a 1" hole where the video shows the thermostat to be. Reset with a paperclip and covered the hole with a square of matching black flex tape.

Hi there... I really hope you see this. First, I'd like to thank you so much for this video because without it, I had no idea how to get my Keurig to turn on again. I've searched online but can't find an answer to a question I have. My Keurig was in descale mode, and I believe I was at the rinse part when it completely shut off and wouldn't turn on again. Now that I've followed your instructions from this video and it turned back on the descale light is not illuminated but I don't know if I have to run the descale again since it shut down during the rinse. I'm happy it's working again thanks to you, but I am afraid to use it, not knowing if any of the chemicals from the descale are still present and will get into my coffee. I'd really appreciate your help and thank you again for your helpful videos.

Whew! I can comment now on how helpful this was. It did take me a very long time to get the cover off, I snapped a few tabs off but idk. Thank you so much for this video. I will say it is a dewsey getting that cover off, I used like 4 different flathead but it came on and I'm about to drink some coffee.
