Cody Church It's a high pitched part (don't know if that's correct english), and back in 2013 when this was performed, John wasn't recovered yet from his granuloma (vocalchord problems). So that's why, I guess. And Keith's smiling, so he knows hahaha. but that's my guess

***** Hahaha that could be it aswell ;) But since they both have 4 lines to sing each time, I guess John just realised he could hit the high notes yet ^^
1:31-1:34 Keith helps out with a high pitch note is the most wholesome scene. Point, JM was a year into his throat surgery and was still finding his feat
Another preference...WOW Keith Urban can be fabulous with each artist he lets into his already divine style which I LOVE, have for many generations. Keepem coming Man, you are my Blessing 🤗💗😘
I would venture to say that Mayer is a better guitar player than a singer and I mean that as a compliment because he's a good singer, with a good voice. I decided this after listening to him playing blues music. I used to think he was just a good looking white boy pop singer, but he's a hell of a player, and Urban isn't bad either. Mayer is also a better song writer than for which I initially game him credit. Gravity is damn good. Very sparse, but it says a lot in a few words.
Made by Dan Strain in Nashville. Check out the Keith Urban Rig RunDown where they describe the guitar. I have 4 of Dan’s guitars (2 teles) and they are great instruments
They each have their own different styles so its really hard to debate on which one is better. Personally I think JM is but Keith is right up there with him. Agreed though, together they are awesome!
but I laughed hard at that comment and then watching the scene :-D Cause you know that's not true but looks like - that's what makes it funny. You know ... I think that face could easily be a meme :-D
my favorite part about this double guitar solo is that it's actually a triple guitar solo. Took me about until about the 6th or 7th listening to properly notice it, but the third guitarist is doing some pad-like lines during the quiet part that I think really work well with the star duo. Props to who ever that guy is! Playing supplemental yet non-intrusive stuff is an art on it's own
damn nice catch, I never heard that before. I love the collaborative effort that goes into creating amazing music edit: Plus the drums, base obviously. But the backup singers too filling in the 'gusto'. Props to everyone up there
The number of times I’ve come back to this video over the years is crazy. The two best guitarists of the current era, totally different styles, coming together to make the best performance you could ask for. That build up at the end is masterfully done with John’s genius little funky lick going on and Keith’s absolute POWER playing overtop of it. Just amazing.
@@marcyfrankel7132 me too! I actually very recently became a massive Beatles fan, and the covers can be a bit annoying, but this one has all the spirit of that original rooftop performance.
I dragged my husband to a John Mayer concert almost 20 years. He changed to a huge fan. I have seen him 14 times since! Hoping to get to a Keith Urban concert someday!
@@BryceRogers_ That was not intended to be a dig at all on Keith :) .. or country music. But more of an affirmation that he plays with so much soul. He literally has so much talent.
John with his head down I think is blown away by Urban's guitar skills, I'm a big Mayer fan, Urban just killed this. Just awesome the two of them together.
@@JuicyFruityify Its a valid opinion more so than my opinion on the subject. I would say watch Neon live in LA and say Mayer isn't an amazing guitarist. Especially when considering he was 20yrs old when he wrote it. I feel he's one of those people that almost invented his own way of playing guitar. By no means am I a huge Mayer fan even though it may come across that way but I respect the hell out of his talent. Id say maybe he was blown away that Urban could play as well as he did. Looking back on your comment I think I misinterpreted what you meant and thats my bad. I somehow took it as Mayer was jealous or something lol.
Let’s keep in mind how tense of a time this was for Mayer. Any big JM fans know that though this performance is mind blowing, but the vocals lacked. John was going through a real tough time here: a year from his throat surgery and rediscovering his voice and some of the missing pieces he lost. The world saw him as an ego-headed womanizer, but that’s not who John is and this moment in time was a major turning point for him as a musician and a man
Why make excuses for John MAYER, this is one of the greatest songs! Two men making love on guitar’s as another comment had said! Seriously, this song is addictive
@@oneofakind9784 John Mayer had granulomas on his vocal cords which meant he was close to losing his voice completely. He couldn't even speak for around half a year, and was using an iPad to communicate instead, in an effort to give his voice an opportunity to heal. If you compare his voice here to say, 2007, you can see he's still really struggling here. It's only by 2015-16 that you can see some portions of his old voice come back, IMO.
Keith is so damn good because he's been on tour his entire life. Calling him a country star does not do him justice. He can hang on guitar with anyone....
Thought that Urban was just a "Country" singer that got lucky- Married a movie star & hosted American Idol. This guy is Great!! The Clapton benefit concert from which this is taken, is shown frequently on VH1. Guitar lovers shoud definitely watch.
According to Wikipedia John Mayer became obsessed with the guitar after watching Marty McFly jam out in Back To The Future. He was so obsessed with playing and practicing as a kid his parents brought him to a psychiatrist. Twice.
Still his finger style playing involves mostly Thumb and Index finger.....😂😂 but there's one thing he devolped his weakness into strength, this is why he is regarded as one of the best guitarist......
@John Johnson the hell are you talking about? Watch it again. I never said anything about their voice or anything. Get your insecure opinion in place and not insert it in random asses. I was simply talking about the guitar strap coming off.
I saw this video and I was so happy and so overwhelmed to see both of my favourite artists performing together. It just saddens me to read some of the comments. You see, comparing won't do no one no good. Every artist has their own style, and every artist is different. John Mayer is someone who's really inspired me through his music and I love the work he puts in to his songs n music.
And we all know what a beautiful songwriter he is. He just writes stuff that touch my soul. And I just love the way he plays with words. John mayer is different from the Beatles, and I guess that's what makes him John MayerAnd hey, don't you remember 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all' .
No words. Absolutely my favorite video to watch over and over. If I found out they would both perform this again together, there would be nothing stopping me from seeing it live but I have a feeling this is a once in a lifetime performance.
For those of you surprised at how good Keith is here, this doesn’t even remotely do him justice. Keith has been melting faces since the mid 90’s. He’s a legit shredder.
Usually covers don’t do justice, but they made this their own. As a musician the original song leaves so much room for embellishing and adlibbing. Beautiful
ThatEraSound It's not weird lol. Everyone has their own preferences. I like this version more too. But I don't neglect the original either, in fact I have deep respect for that version because if that hadn't been created, this version wouldn't exist either.
Wow, Keith Urban Is a hell of a player! I like his country songs, but I didn’t know he was capable of this! Almost had a John Frusciante feel to him during the solos.
I don't understand why you or anyone should be shocked by Keith been at this much longer than John I think it looks like they were feeding off each other and blew all watching and me listening on my phone away to keep replay over and over 💝
John Mayer really is like the garlic powder of music, you put his voice and his guitar on literally anything and it sounds better. This guy worked with Ed Sheehan, Kanye West, Common, and Alicia Keys and brought the best out of all them.
This is one of the videos I share with some special people, I don’t go around waving it “here’s a good performance” because I want to share it with someone who will appreciate each and every second of it.
Yep. This and their duet on Sweet Thing. I am not a fan of the song "Sweet Thing" itself, but the way these two bounce off of and compliment each other is absolutely incredible in that live version. These two have CHEMISTRY.
Betty Pendegrast What are you talking about? .... He has already done several covers of Hendrix - his style is based on Hendrix/SRV... He has also done a pretty cover of Comfortably Numb where he plays the solo... Please stop being so ignorant :-/
I wonder how come Keith is so happy tho, like, all the time. Literally, any video I see with him, he's just like a ray of sunshine. But how the hell is he doing it?!
This has to be one of the best recordings ever! I wish Amazon Music or similar had this to offer on streaming so I could listen to it as part of my playlist when I'm driving. This is AMAZING!
John Mayer: ok Keith, just like how we rehearsed it. "don't let me down!" two steps backward, then two steps forward, and.. "don't let me down!" Keith Urban: nailed it.
don´t think any moment in life has made me question my sexuality more than Keith Urban and John Mayer having the most wholesome guitar bro moment in history.
NO, why do so many males out there think that if musicians are sexy then they are also gay?? or other genders?? wtf, happened to sexy singers being just that, sexy singers without stereotyping their gender??? OMG........these two are just very sexy male performers, no matter what their gender preference is!!
I think you have misunderstood my previous comment. I was not litterally saying "I want to change my sexual preferences because their music is so great" . I was meerly stating that theese two artists playing together sounds really great and as a figure of speech I threw in the "questioning my sexuality bomb" to describe the intensity of the moment. I do not in anyway wish to "become gay" for any singer because of their performance theese days telling a joke really kills it imo,
I have been playing guitar for years now and i dont have any idea why are people trashing on Urban's guitar tone.. He has a beautiful complimentary tone in this piece..

casper van helvoirt How are you sure of that? He could have just checked to confirm Keith was joining him.
Cody Church It's a high pitched part (don't know if that's correct english), and back in 2013 when this was performed, John wasn't recovered yet from his granuloma (vocalchord problems). So that's why, I guess. And Keith's smiling, so he knows hahaha. but that's my guess
Thats what I was thinking too. Hahaha. At least John has his voice almost back now
casper van helvoirt Haha, I always thought it looked like the next line was actually Keith's part, but John noticed that Keith was nowhere near the mic, so he covered for him as KU rushed to the mic.
***** Hahaha that could be it aswell ;) But since they both have 4 lines to sing each time, I guess John just realised he could hit the high notes yet ^^
keith's strap let him down ....
TheAmaterazzzu no shit you deserve to be the top comment :D
Lol
+TheAmaterazzzu lol...I hate when that happens.....or when a string breaks right in the middle of your solo.

John's reaction to Keith's lick at 2:17 is priceless lmao
thats hilarious they killed it tho!
❤❤❤LOVE that LOOK!!!
I mean...Keith played a lick that blew John Mayer's mind. That is some serious high praise in a look.
Wait what
⚡️❤️
I swear Guitar is the coolest instrument ever
Unbeatable coolest instrument. The most versatile, it can use in any genre of music
1:31-1:34 Keith helps out with a high pitch note is the most wholesome scene. Point, JM was a year into his throat surgery and was still finding his feat
My favourite part....
coolest part is keith had the same surgery 2 years before this!
Another preference...WOW Keith Urban can be fabulous with each artist he lets into his already divine style which I LOVE, have for many generations. Keepem coming Man, you are my Blessing 🤗💗😘
I thought he was just trying to sing over him
I dont hear any problems with Johns voice
Who puts this video on repeat and then comes back every few months???👇🏼
THIS GUY
I come here every few days 🙃🙃
Matteo Cot me too
Every morning at 5 the dogs n i listen to this! John Mayer is such a natural n sexy in his musi ...
Im one of em,lol
I have seen since 2005 over 100 times. Never fails. Keith that is. Glen Campbell said once he's as good as anyone in guitar playing
This is how a telecaster and stratocaster talk to each other, it's like 2 brothers talking :)
Dody B Satriyo
Keith: so what did you eat today?
John: oh you know the usual

Made by Dan Strain in Nashville. Check out the Keith Urban Rig RunDown where they describe the guitar. I have 4 of Dan’s guitars (2 teles) and they are great instruments

I'll check it out.. then have my guitarist brother translate it haha
Both complimented each other's techniques! Absolutely great performance!
I gotta say, keith urban is one hell of a great guitarist. His guitar solos in this performance was mad!
Check out devil went down to nashville.
possibly the greatest guitar solo i've ever heard, even the part where his strap comes off, i'm not even joking. wish i could have seen this live.
MicrowaveWalrus Haven't seen much guitar solos then! hahaha. This was a very amazing performance, love it
@@Tristen95gi EXACTLY!
Instead of debating which one is better, why don't we focus on how awesome these guys are together?
Agreed!
They each have their own different styles so its really hard to debate on which one is better. Personally I think JM is but Keith is right up there with him. Agreed though, together they are awesome!
Absolutely!!
2:16 John's face is like "Ooooh" after Keith plays that killer lick...so good
Watch them do Sweet Thing together. Best ever jamming.
soooo smooooth
but I laughed hard at that comment and then watching the scene :-D Cause you know that's not true but looks like - that's what makes it funny. You know ... I think that face could easily be a meme :-D
MrWeareone777 agreed 100%
Without words John gave Keith one of the best honest compliments one could give
Every once in a while, you get a performance Live , that will last generations.❤
my favorite part about this double guitar solo is that it's actually a triple guitar solo. Took me about until about the 6th or 7th listening to properly notice it, but the third guitarist is doing some pad-like lines during the quiet part that I think really work well with the star duo. Props to who ever that guy is! Playing supplemental yet non-intrusive stuff is an art on it's own
That’s John’s band so has to be Zane Carney.
No Literally the guy was holding it all together super well which is impressive considering it’s John Mayer and Keith urban
Check out how he plays the first solo on Queen of California from this concert.
damn nice catch, I never heard that before. I love the collaborative effort that goes into creating amazing music
edit: Plus the drums, base obviously. But the backup singers too filling in the 'gusto'. Props to everyone up there
@@archibaldiv1886 - Yes, fantastic backup singers. Talk about supplemental but non-intrusive. They were wonderful!
SAME. One of my favorites. Seen them together, at the Gorge, in Wa. SO freaking DYNOMITE
Agreed!
Was thinking the exact same thing!
I'm a huge Beatles fan and don't usually like to hear other artists do their songs. But this was AMAZING!!!
@@marcyfrankel7132 me too! I actually very recently became a massive Beatles fan, and the covers can be a bit annoying, but this one has all the spirit of that original rooftop performance.
The tone that Mayer comes in with at 4:12....Dear god!
Big eargasm time
Dragged my husband to a Keith Urban concert a few years ago. Begrudgingly. He changed to a huge fan and still is.
Hello Beautiful song
I dragged my husband to a John Mayer concert almost 20 years. He changed to a huge fan. I have seen him 14 times since! Hoping to get to a Keith Urban concert someday!
Love the chemistry these two have on stage. Would love to see more collaborations between them
This is only one of the songs they did in this Crossroads concert!
Keith Urban is an animal on those SOLOS... I think Keith Urban is a SOUL player that resorted to Country to pay the bills...Damn that was good.
I don't think Keith needs any help paying the bills.
@@madisonmosman yeah i think calling it "resorting to country" is disingenuous to the genre and his artistry

John with his head down I think is blown away by Urban's guitar skills, I'm a big Mayer fan, Urban just killed this. Just awesome the two of them together.
you kidding, keith is a picker, a piker, lol good of course, but Johm M is an artist. I was not a Mayer fan but my god this guy ,makes music.
John Mayer is one of the best guitarists of all time. If you dont believe me just ask Eric Clapton
@@deaconblues77 Yeah, saw that. But check out Chris Robinson on Mayer joining the Dead.
@@JuicyFruityify will do right now. Ill be back 👍
@@JuicyFruityify Its a valid opinion more so than my opinion on the subject.
Special K not making excuses, just giving more a reason to appreciate and understand
@@StephanieL180 is that similar to what Tom Keifer from Cinderella had? I know he lost singing abilty for a little while

Keith is so damn good because he's been on tour his entire life. Calling him a country star does not do him justice. He can hang on guitar with anyone....
Thought that Urban was just a "Country" singer that got lucky-

According to Wikipedia John Mayer became obsessed with the guitar after watching Marty McFly jam out in Back To The Future. He was so obsessed with playing and practicing as a kid his parents brought him to a psychiatrist. Twice.
Chuck Berry had that effect on a few generations
I just read this comment and realized I watched this video yesterday, and then probably the day before aswell
OMG , i'm gonna die laughing, that was to good !
Three times the charm
Still his finger style playing involves mostly Thumb and Index finger.....😂😂 but there's one thing he devolped his weakness into strength, this is why he is regarded as one of the best guitarist......
John's solo.. dear god. He's on such a different level.
Don't think you're fair I think Urban and John complement each other! :)
Svante Pålsson Dude, "completement each other"?. Come on. Katy Perry completes him. That was super gay.
I’m in love with Keith Urban! He makes that guitar sing! Plus he’s just a great guy.
Simple Music can make you sing. a Simple hug can make you feel better, Simple things can make you happy, i hope my Simple Hello makes you smile..
I love how John stopped playing and tried helping Keith when he saw the strap come off. Then they resumed playing at the same time and carried on.
Twas awesome!!
@John Johnson the hell are you talking about? Watch it again. I never said anything about their voice or anything. Get your insecure opinion in place and not insert it in random asses. I was simply talking about the guitar strap coming off.
John Johnson I wouldn’t say Mayer’s voice is bad just not entirely fitting for this particular song. I personally love his vocals tho
It's odd how much money they make and Keith Didn't think of getting strap locks
@@CorBor69 He is talking about the strap for fucks sake
I saw this video and I was so happy and so overwhelmed to see both of my favourite artists performing together. It just saddens me to read some of the comments. You see, comparing won't do no one no good. Every artist has their own style, and every artist is different. John Mayer is someone who's really inspired me through his music and I love the work he puts in to his songs n music.
And we all know what a beautiful songwriter he is. He just writes stuff that touch my soul. And I just love the way he plays with words. John mayer is different from the Beatles, and I guess that's what makes him John MayerAnd hey, don't you remember 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all' .

it took him along time to get strong vocals, check out his early singing it was beyond horrible till he got retrained.
Two straight men bringing out the best in each other.
For those of you surprised at how good Keith is here, this doesn’t even remotely do him justice. Keith has been melting faces since the mid 90’s. He’s a legit shredder.
The BEST!!!
Usually covers don’t do justice, but they made this their own. As a musician the original song leaves so much room for embellishing and adlibbing. Beautiful
Other than the Beatles the best version I’ve ever heard
Yeah, Urban is a great singer, but a little more on the polished/clean side. I think nobody lives up to John Lennon's raspy original.

John Mayer really is like the garlic powder of music, you put his voice and his guitar on literally anything and it sounds better. This guy worked with Ed Sheehan, Kanye West, Common, and Alicia Keys and brought the best out of all them.
Interesting analogy.

don´t think any moment in life has made me question my sexuality more than Keith Urban and John Mayer having the most wholesome guitar bro moment in history.
NO, why do so many males out there think that if musicians are sexy then they are also gay?? or other genders?? wtf, happened to sexy singers being just that, sexy singers without stereotyping their gender??? OMG........these two are just very sexy male performers, no matter what their gender preference is!!
And I sincerely think you meant that in a positive way as you liked both of them.....doesn't make you gay, or anything you don't want to be....

John Mayer is hands down one of the finest guitarist of all time.
Mate, he is unbelievable but your statement is a "bit" of an overstatement.
@@superczuper2011 John Clayton Mayer’s discography is one of the FINEST in music. Hands down. He’s collaborated with more artists than I know, across multitudes of genres.
