Thank you SO MUCH for watching the video and thinking about Liking it and Subscribing! The rest of Metallica's Catalogue is coming! Видеоклипы
I was the editor on the Load album. I assure you that there is no AutoTune on this record. It had not been invented yet.
You are correct Autotune and pitch correction software in general didn't become common until 1997. It might have just been a funky edit or an odd pitch in the performance when we thought we heard it.
And fantastic job by the way with the in Flames album from earlier in the year! One of the top albums of the year for sure!
Wow! I have so much respect for you lol! Load is one of my favorite albums ever along with Reload!
Thank you for saying this
Sounds like he was thinking the b-string bender was auto-correct
Thank you for your contribution
Load and Reload are some of my favorite albums period
Load is probably one of the best rock albumbs out there. The problem with some people is that it was released by Metallica.
I personally love it! It's a really good era and it has some amazing tunes.
That's true, but it's too long, has a few average songs and, although it's a really good song, including Mama Said - and even releasing it as a single - didn't do them any favours.
long way from the best 🤣
I have to agree and that’s the point. Metallica’s albums have been the kind I didn’t just enjoy, I LOVED them. Load was underwhelming and I did enjoy it, but I didn’t LOVE it. For other bands that are just ok, this would be a really good album. For Metallica, it’s not much above mediocre. But, it was a bold and courageous move on their part, I admit. I can’t fault them for being adventurous.
These two records are fucking AMAZING. if those old school fans haven't grown on these records as they've gotten older as well, they're probably on crank 🤣
Load and Reload are terrible
Bleeding Me is in my top 5 metallica songs, it’s a masterpiece
True
Outlaw torn as well
Same for me.
Outlaw torn is up there too!
It's genuinly my favourite song out of all songs I've ever heard
Load is absolutely a great Hard Rock album. Most people just hated on it because it wasn't Thrash.
It came after The Black Album - how more un-thrash could they get than that?
I think the image shift had more to do with the hate than anything. Hetfield as redneck cowboy, Kirk and Lars wearing eye make-up and haircuts / dye jobs, piercings etc all round...very leftfield for their very fickle and / or partisan fanbase to deal with.
Great album though...
This album is for music lovers, not for metalfans. Its heavy yet sounds silky smooth. Many have heard it but didnt listen to it. Absolutely my fav album of all time. Is Reload next?
Our Reload reaction comes out tomorrow as long as everything stays on track!
I'm a die hard metalhead, I listen to +400 different bands in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Doom Metal, Stoner Metal, Groove Metal, Grindcore and you name it, and I have loved Load ever since I had the album in 1997. I had arguing in high school with my other metalheads buddies who were claiming Metallica were becoming sold outs (one of them even said he was done with Metallica and sold all his record, I still have his Kill 'em All I bought him back then since I didn't own that record yet). Without Load I'd probably never have got into stoner metal afterwards.
@@MoreAwsomeMetal This. It's for metal fans with an open mind and are open to hearing their favourite band adapt and try new things.
Load was my first album ever, gifted by my older brother when I was 11. It also was the first vinyl I ever got, a gift from my wife. Possibly my favorite album of all time, and if not it's a Top 5 easily.
@@mstrasser There are nowadays far more metal fans that dig into Load and Reload than there used to be in the 90's. The reaction against these 2 albums mainly came from the Thrash Bay Area fans that couldn't accept that Metallica was turning it's back from the Thrash scene they initially originated (which wasn't actually true, since they're always played their classics live all the time, and Death Magnetic clearly showed an attempt to come a step back from where they shifted road). However, what really happened is that since the mid 2000's the Doom, stoner and Sludge Metal scene has greatly moved in popularity compared to what was it's audience in the 80's (for doom) and the 90's (for stoner and sludge). I still can remember that nobody was listening to bands such as St Vitus, Pentagram, Candlemass, Sleep, or Kyuss in this era, it really was a very confidential scene back then. Now those scenes have grown big and have millions of fans thoughout the world. Load and Reload were actually an attempt to turn the Metallica sound towards these scene: they knew Thrash was about to stagnate and have a loss of it's follower (and it did, the 90's was a very dark period for Thrash, only a couple of bands closely related to the Black or Death Metal scene by their lyrics or ambiance such as Slayer, Kreator, etc... could make it. All the other were on hiatus or struggling to keep at flow). Thrash would eventually know a rebirth in the mid 2000's, but Metallica, instead of choosing to move on towards a Grunge/Alternative Rock sound, saw through bands such as Ailce In Chains, Kyuss, Corrosion of Conformity, Sound Garden a sound that would eventually make a new wave of metal. They were actually right, except they couldn't know it wouldn't happen before 10 years after Reload was released. Trust me, I've been trough discussions in the 90's in high school with my metalheads buddies, the hatred you can still see here or there towards Load and Reload is absolutely nothing compared to what it used to by among the die hard fans. There will always be people to not like some style of music, that's the way it is (I myself don't like several styles of metal), but it's nowhere as systematic as it used to be back then...
This album is one of Metallicas best. So Underrated. Almost every song has something I enjoy. 8/10 album
I agree that there are no tracks that feel like a waste. I think there are low and high points, and because of overall length I could take two tracks off the album, but overall each track was unique in a satisfying way!
@@PatrickMusilek I agree with your assessment of taking off Poor Twisted Me and Cure. I think they where better of without those two. This era of Metallica is so mysterious because they rarely talk about it and Barely play any of the songs off of either load or reload besides a few of the more popular ones.
Cure and Pour Twisted me are two of the worst songs they have done. King Nothing, Hero Of The Day and Bleeding Me are 3/10 songs
@@davidmairs8688 nah those are pretty great songs.
@@Luke_22 100% agree. I’m never sure what the heck others are listening to when they cite those as bad.
In my opinion, Load is the best sounding Metallica album. 🔥🔥
I feel like Black Album has the best sound.
Dvd audio disk(5.1audio) black album for me
Fun fact about King Nothing: they were scheduled to play it for a TV spot in Europe on their version of MTV in 1996 and were told by the very proper British producers not to swear onstage. James being the anti authoritarian he is (was) smiled and nodded as the host announced Metallica and their new single King Nothing only for James to belt out SO F*CKING WHAT!!! And they ripped right into their cover of Anti Nowhere League’s “So What” which is a VERY graphic song to say the least lmao. I don’t think the channel could get it pulled before James got out a few Cwords F Bombs and even lyrics about catching STDs
I need to see this video
They played last caress and went straight into so what. Not only did they not censor it in time, the entire award show was repeated again as soon as it was over, and they didn’t cut it from that either because I remember setting up my vcr to record it and sure enough, it aired again, unedited.
@@cjbscotsmanI may be wrong but I remember absolutely loving it and they cut the power on stage before they finished… not sure if that’s a misremember
edgy
See now I recall that when they played King Nothing on MTV for some awards show, Just before the guitar solo where Hetfield is to sing, "Where's your crown?", He instead sings, as he has ever since, "Where the Fuck's your crown?"
Sonically Load and Reload are probably the best albums Metallica have ever done IMO. the downtuning to Eb really allowed James to “fit in the pocket” of the vocals, he didn’t have to strain to sing over E standard. I genuinely don’t understand why people dislike these albums. They sound great, and in the height of the “grunge” era, it was a breath of fresh air, that sounds like natural progression after the Black Album
I was only a kid when it came out so I wasn't in touch with the culture at the time or anything but a lot of the people who hated it back then have admitted they have gone back to it and like it now. It wasn't just them "cutting their hair" being the big reason, Metallica when they were young called out hair metal bands as being posers while they were true to themselves and authentic and would never sell out. When this album came out they dressed like an alternative band, had music videos like Smashing Pumpkins and elements of the music sound like they were following the current trends.
Following trends was something they said they would never do when they were younger and while I don't think Load and Reload were that cynical it didn't help that Lars was going around in interviews saying metal was dead at the time. And the whole vibe of especially Lars and Kirk acting all farty arty with their image didn't help either that made them look pretentious (which James later said he wasn't comfortable with).
Now that people are going back and are just listening to the album as is without all the cultural noise they are judging the music more properly without any biases, and Load and Reload are good hard rock albums. Though I think Load and Reload is one brilliant album split in two with filler on both albums (especially on Reload) because the label was pissed they hadn't put out an album in 5 years.
I didn't like it at first when I was a teenager but I love it now. I know as a musician that you get sick of playing the same old kind of music and if you think all these riffs on load still are hard rockish and black Sabbath like. BTW... THIS ALBUM CAME OUT JUNE 4TH 1996. I WENT TO THE MIDNIGHT SALE. IT ABSOLUTELY DIDN'T COME OUT IN 94.
Load is great, reload is just load rejects and filler, although there is a couple of great tracks on it
Nothing but respect for James for putting Mama Said on this album! Can't hate the dude for writing this personal song and not having heard it in decades, I actually enjoyed it and glad that I didn't skip it as I was initially tempted to do✌️
I’m a huge “old” Metallica fan but over the years I have really come around to liking Load and Reload. I think they’re great albums.
I recall in 1996 hearing Bleeding Me…I had to stop at the end of it and just absorb it. I must have listened to that specific track 20 times that day. Bleeding Me has an ethereal sound in the beginning…haunting in a way. It builds…you feel the desperation in James’ lyrics. The anger comes in and is topped off with Kirk’s masterful solo. Jason just sounds like a beast on back vocals in the later part of the song. It’s really a gem on these two albums…probably James’ most honest lyrics.
It’s my favorite song.
‘Bleeding Me’ and ‘Outlaw Torn’ make this album legendary.
Yeah, when he went into rehab 5 years later the song just became eerie.
@@LeviRamsey it’s the song that helped me get sober.
@@bryanjordan4262until it sleeps as well
Ain't My B**ch, Until It Sleeps, King Nothing, Hero of the Day, Bleeding Me, Wasting My Hate, Mama Said, and The Outlaw Torn
I don't care what anyone says, this album is a masterpiece.
Add all the other tracks too, it's my favourite Metallica album.
@@Simon-T. I only don't like Poor Twisted Me
@Igor Tokarski That's not a bad return for an album all but one.
It most definitely is a masterpiece.
It is, man. One of my fav from them.
We love Load, or at least most of us. Glad see you enjoying it
welcome to the "we love Load from day 1" family, our numbers increase every year;). Bleeding me and Outlaw Torn are top tier Metallica for me
I am so surprised! Everyone seems to love it, which I didn't expect!
@@PatrickMusilek I am a kid from the 90s and back then it was tough to express publicly you love for this album (with its flaws because it's not perfect). it's true that a big chunk was due the image change and also because people didn't appreciate the different musical approach. After many years all that stuff has dissipated and what remains is just the music, which shines through (weather is metal or not doesn't matter that much because that's taste and everyone has a different one). You can also see that the band enjoys playing this material (check their last performance of Bleeding me available in their RUclips channel and you can really see how important that song for James is). Great video!
Album is great. For me it's James' strongest lyrically and vocally.
Outlaw and Bleeding are among their absolute top songs
Yes his vocals really stood out to me! His performance was much more impressive here!
Outlaw Torn is written for Cliff
"You make me smash the clock and feel
I'd rather die behind the will"
@@8tonystark8i believe he sings wheel not will but yeah it’s about cliff
I agree vocally but I think it has its rough parts lyrically. Master Of Puppets and Black Album win for lyrics imo.
Totally agree. The lyrics on this album are just him tearing himself open and laying it all out for us to see. ReLoad too, but stronger IMO on this album. Also what's so great about them is how strong they are open to vivid interpretation. Like Outlaw Torn IMO isnt' for Cliff at all. It's all about his addiction (as is Bleeding Me and Fixxxer) but people will interpret it differently.
I love that you and Chris 1 and Chris 2 have decided to continue this "series"! It really is a blast to watch and listen along.
I think The House That Jack Built is supposed to feel eerie and disorienting, as it is a song about being intoxicated with alcohol, that's why it sounds like someone is in pain.
That makes sense and now that I hear that, I get it!
@@PatrickMusilek SOOO much doublespeak in that song it's absolutely amazing it worked. "It swallows me" as he drinks, because the alcohol is in control. "I twist away" in the addiction struggle AND the bottlecaps. And of course, the house that Jack (daniels) built. It's all about alcoholism, every word of it.
i love bleeding me
🙏🏻🙏🏻
It’s literally my favorite song
It's funny though because he said everyone is gonna hate him for loving this song. Yet outside of Metallica traditionalist which make up a small fraction of the fan base, Bleeding Me is very well liked among most fans.
My all time favorite James vocal, despite not liking his vocals in general on this album.
My favorite Metallica song written in the 90’s…. Disposable hero’s is my favorite 80’s Metallica song
I would love to hear you react to Reload; the closing track "Fixxxer" is a fantastic, ominous, atmospheric tune. That album is just as sonically adventurous and rewarding as this one.
New subscriber here. This has always been a seriously underrated metal album. Hero of the Day with the orchestra is pretty damn epic as well.
Thank you so much! Symphonic metal (like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation) is my favorite genre, so I am really excited for when we do S&M!!!
Quick side point at the end, based on an earlier comment; pitch correction may have been possible for that one little part, but proper AutoTune, the Antares product, wasn't introduced until after this album was recorded.
Great album. I think it shows how versatile Metallica is. You missed a few cool little parts but awesome job.
Load and Reload are both so well-rounded, dark, moody. It's hard-edge enough to be heavy, but the emotional journey they take you on is indescribable. The production is impeccable from my standpoint. The mix in my opinion is some of the best they've ever done, much thanks to Bob. That late 90s early 2000s era of their guitar tone is by far my favourite. Can't beat a Roland JC-120. Load and it's successor are excellent albums, people are not necessarily directly comparing them to their older albums but I can't shy away for the fact that most of the reviews are coming from a perspective of oh "it's Metallica" so it must sound like "this." They're Metallica, and they make Metallica music. Songs like Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, Bleeding Me, Low Man's Lyric, among many others, deserve to be defended. Ill never stop praising these records, cause they deserve it. Just a note* Most of the people that claim to not like these albums are of the age 35+ who are too dull minded to appreciate anything but the 'classics' and the young people 20> who claim to be "fans" while having only given these albums 10 minutes of their ever decreasing attention spanning minds. That's what pisses me off the most, people aren't appreciating them cause they can't open their fucking ears and listen in the moment. Anyway my rant over great video, no ones mad at you because you love some of these tracks. These in my mind are Metallica's best records sonically and lyrically. It's simply a shame people can't appreciate them for whatever God damn reason. As you stated, James was made for this type of music, as much as I love the earlier records, Load & Reload alike are the only ones I can come back to consistently and never get bored.
Did you like St Anger?
@@PabloSaavedra84 I understand the times from that era, do I think the album was necessary? I don't think so, possibly yes for the band but could we have done without it, I think we could of. I am a fan of some of the tracks on the album however. I get how people enjoy the album 🤘
@@ryanpatterson906 I feel Metallica as an entity and as such, full of unique emotions. That's why I feel that each record is necessary for each moment and I understand and enjoy it when I'm in that same sentimental state.

This is definitely the best reaction video to an epic album, you guys rock! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Patrick, I’m glad I was recommended your videos by RUclips. Love the channel!! It always feels like hanging out with friends; keep it up man!
Outro of "The Outlaw Torn" was faded out due to technical limitations. Full version is on "The Memory Remains" single.
Anyone who grew up with METALLICA (particularly from the start, as I did) can gripe & complain about the musical ‘branching out’ direction they took (starting with the ‘Black Album’). However, anyone who has an ear for music would be intellectually dishonest if they refused to admit that the ‘Black Album’,
Load’ & Re-load’ are some of the absolute best produced, engineered & mixed hard rock/metal recordings of the entire decade of the ‘90’s (& still hold up too this day).
I think James singing kept getting better recently like 2011 and on, he improved alot since then
This was actually very lovely to watch. Thank you for not talking over 90% of the songs and thank you for researching a bit about the album before listening to it. I loved this video.
of all the metallica reaction/review you guys done, this was my fav to go through with you guys thx for the enjoyment well done.
1:17:09 Until It Sleeps was the first single off this album! I was with a buddy that day, he came and picked me up, I was saying something to him, he had just started this and I will never forget I turned the volume down on his radio to keep talking. He burst out laughing (Metallica was my #1), I stopped and asked "what?"...."it's the new Metallica single" he said...."Oh shit, turn it up man!" I replied. lol Good times!
The way Chris was so convinced it came out in 1994
Mandela effect? Cause I swore it came out in '94 as well.
@@lecrapface5270 nope, June ‘96 ;)
Cant wait for death magnetic!!
I'll say this about Mama Said, James may not have a country voice, but he needed this song. When you follow the progression of songs Dyers Eve, The God that Failed, then Mama Said, he needed this song to finally have peace
Except he does have a country voice, and a very country expression. By the way, the entire album is country, not only Mama Said.
Long time metallica fan and recently venturing into recording. These videos are great! Please continue them
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
RIP Present Chris, we still miss you! And congrats on the baby!!!!
Ok you need to listen to the S&M album. That version of Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn are the definitive versions. Amazing songs.
You definitely should watch their live performances which are the best I've seen from any band. And you can even compare decades. Seattle in '89, San Diego in '92, Cunning Stunts in '97, Nimes in '09, 40th anniversary in '22, and of course their most recent performances from few weeks ago. You will enjoy the 72 seasons songs a lot more.
I want to do some live song reactions eventually!
Don't forget Moscow '91
Many fans love bleeding me. Here is a live performance from 2022: ruclips.net/video/xz0FkZd1Y9w/видео.html
@@PatrickMusilek Please don't do '91, it's so overdone and has a bad recording quality. I recommend newer ones on their channel, they are much better in quality and it's interesting to see James pull these songs of in his 60, which he does perfectly.
@@TheMomoconThey may be overdone to Metallica fans, but the main guy here hasn't listened to them AFAIK and this is a 'first listen reaction' channel. Just my 2 cents.
Love this album personally. Has some of my favorite songs from them, i.e. Until it Sleeps, Bleeding Me, King Nothing, Outlaw Torn, etc. I respect that the guys did this slightly weird album instead of purely Black Album II as so many people expected. I'm glad you both were open to it and can find so much to appreciate. Not having years of loyalty to their "old style" naturally lends itself to a more open mind about what the band can be instead of just a 200bpm thrash machine all the time. That old style is great, but so is this~
Great chemistry with just the two of you. I find this is your best reaction. ✌🏻
🔥
i really think kirk's on fire on this record (and this continues with reload). load does have a few songs i might be likely to skip, but overall i think it sees them emphasizing a certain set of their strengths in a really natural way. i might even argue that this era was the last time they seemed genuinely inspired by the process of making a record (such that it ended up being split into 2 full discs)...
I think ReLoad is much more consistent with the quality of the songs, but Load has more standouts and some filler
@@yorkiboy735 agreed
Load is probably my favorite album of the band.
It's time for bed! I just finished King Nothing and will continue the rest tomorrow after work! Fantastic work so far! My top 3 favourite songs on Load are The Outlaw Torn, Until it Sleeps, and Hero of the Day!
I hope you guys will review their album S&M from 1999 because all 3 songs are on there with the orchestra and they sound even better! James' voice on the original S&M are incredible!
So far though, I'm digging the enthusiasm you guys have for the album! Yes, James is left and Kirk is on the right side!
This is your best video to date! 🔥
Two live performances you should really watch-- "Bleeding Me" Woodstock '99 & "The Outlaw Torn" Mannheim, Germany '19. Both phenomenal performances.
👊🤘
Nobody will hate you for liking this album sir! Load and Reload have some of their best compositions, they were no longer a metal band, they showed the world they were true musicians.
They always were a Metal Band. Load and Reload are metal albums.
They just weren't a "Thrash Bay Area" band of the 80's anymore, and that's why their core fans from the first days just hated them for moving away from this style to something else in the 90's...
Are you implying Master of Puppets wasn't made by musicians? Cliff Burton was the most "musician" Metallica ever was.
I'm on Bleeding Me and I am LOVING this so far. I tell people all the time that Load and Reload are great albums and deserve to be recognized as such. Just cuz it's not old-school thrash doesn't make it bad music. It's a fantastic ROCK record.
I have serious questions about a band who makes music for 40 years and DOESNT dabble in new sounds and themes, every good creative does it
King Nothing is just massive. What a riff. When they let it loose the first time with the drums building up to it - it's so satisfying 🙂. James sounds great during the album and there's a lot of great songs. Oh.. and Bleeding Me" is incredible. Such mature songwriting.
There are like 4-6 really great, longlasting songs in there. It's a good album.
They recently played King nothing on their M72 tour! Sounded great.
Great description of King Nothing. I'm a very reserved Scandinavian (!) and I ended up tearing my shirt off the first time I saw Metallica play this live (1998, I believe). I was just so psyched to hear it in person, lol.
So glad you enjoy this album as much as I do! I was actually born the month this album was released!
This album is an absolute masterpiece.
I love that you loved the guitar sound on this album. I love live recordings from this era because their live sound was just like this, and their old stuff sounds great with the Load guitar tone
I LOVE Load and Reload. Those albums were my gateway to metal when I was in High School. IDC if ppl don't consider those albums "metal." They led me to the early albums and the floodgates were opened.
Screw what the elitists say. Those lyrics are metal as fuck. I have always stood by Load and Reload being some of their heaviest, most metal stuff. Just by content and feeling alone.
this is so interesting to see someone react to something ive heard like a million times
Bleeding Me is one of the best Metallica Songs ever and it just gets better and better with every listen.
I agree! I am fighting with myself over how high to place it on my list of favorite Metallica songs!
Albums like Justice and Puppets are objectively amazing. Load and Reload are subjectively amazing. I'll keep coming back to Load and Reload for the rest of my life!
Spot on! They have different purposes. xxx
Metallica's Load is still their greatest hard rock and metal album of the late 90's. I remember when it debut at #1 on the billboard charts in June of 1996 Load was a lot different from their biggest selling album Metallica in 1991 which went from from alternative rock music songs like Until it sleeps, Hero of the day, and king nothing which is my favorite songs of Load today.
Been a Metallica fan for 25 years. Never thought about the ZZ Alice in chance or and 90s connections. Good stuff!
So so many memories flooding back when I hear this album. I turned 15 the week it came out and it brings me straight back to that time of my life.
Its great listening to it and seeing you guys on a journey with it too.
Thank you!
This was my first NEW Metallica album. It came out just after I graduated HS. This and Reload are the anthem to my college years. So many memories
‘The Outlaw Torn’ is my favourite track on this record. My introduction to it was the version from *S&M*, which I heard for the first time on five tabs of REALLY good windowpane acid.
The talk box in ‘House That Jack Built’ is EXTREMELY AIC-influenced. That whole song sounds like it could be from *Facelift*. In fact, the final progression of arpeggiated chords was ripped straight out of an AIC tune…can’t remember which one, though, which drives me mad.
such an under appreciated album, I love the heavier stuff but this and reload are perfect how they are for me
The outro solo is James btw.

And fun fact 'The Outlaw Torn' originally DIDN'T fade out; the original track was too long to fit onto the CDs at the time, so they had to cut the song short. As far as I know you can only find the uncut version of 'The Outlaw Torn' here on RUclips.
Load is a great album. It shows Metallica is for more talented than just a thrash band..
They were a thrash band for about 2 albums. All there stuff in the 80s was incredibly difficult and takes talent to play load and reload basically just live on different strings of the 5th and 7th frets.
Love these videos brotha, amazing . I know it’s not intentional but you talk right through the best parts sometimes 😂
I never thought about the parallels for so many other bands in this album. A whole new appreciation. Thank you.
"Mama Said" was released as a single outside the US. "Bleeding Me" was released to US radio about a year after the album came out: both the eight minute version and a 5 or 6 minute edit got airplay.
Load and Reload are the most over-hated rock albums of all time. They're excellent records.
The Outlaw Torn solo at the end that you liked the best was actually played by James
Really! Oh that is interesting!
I agree. This music suits James very, very good. Love it.
Ive always really loved this album but I’ve recently revisited it and it’s been on steady rotation for me.
Also the S&M versions of the Load tracks are 🤌
Chiming in as I have not watched your Metallica videos in order (but I think I have watched almost all now) - Load's THE OUTLAW TORN full length version first appeared as a bonus track on one of The Memory Remains singles (released from ReLoad the next year). Here's the notes:

As far a singles go, UNTIL IT SLEEPS, HERO OF THE DAY, and KING NOTHING were released in the US (to Rock Radio as well as for CD/Cassette singles and music videos) ... and when KING NOTHING was released here, MAMA SAID was released internationally outside of the US, with it;s own music video and CD single. At that the time, unless you waited and shopped import music stores, you could not get Mama Said in the US.
Such a great album in my opinion. Now waiting for Reload lol
Great video. I hope you guys cover ‘TAllica’s discography. And I like it better when there’s only Parker with you, cause he really seems to enjoy the songs.
Mama said still hits hard for me some 20 years later
Load and reload? Great albums.
Watching your reactions has officially become an event in my life. Can't wait for the next one!
Now, I don't want to spoil anything but, after watching this, I am absolutely sure you will DESPISE "Death Magnetic", hahaha!
Yeah, excited for the weeping at the sheer compression
DM would be an absolute prime opportunity to stage a side by side comparison with a few songs since there are actually three versions of each... the original 'smashed' release, the remastered digital release, and the unofficial reassembled releases made from (IIRC) the guitar hero split tracks.
But yeah, on the original CD release he'll want to take the entire engineering and production crew behind the woodshed and make 'em cut switches, and I don't mean electrical ones.
I love this because I feel like I’m listening to this with friends on my way to work!
load and reload has aged very well now and are great songs just didnt fit the heavy metal sound metallica created a mainstream following for and fans wanted/expected some more heavy hits of at least a black album extended style but couldnt predict the load album. It just made everyone pissed off cause there were so many 90's rock bands already at the time and it even has country sounding music in it too just like wtf is this? lol we want heavy!
Thank you so much for the review. No way this channel has only 1k subscribers. I am a bug fan of Load but even I can't explain certain songs to myself. Like, they were 30 seconds beyond max playback time so they cut the Outlaw Torn. I agree the uncut ending is not as epic as someone may imagine. But why they didn't cut something else. For example, Cure is a good song but it could end after the third chorus. There is no need to have a breakdown and then a chorus again. Thorn Within is another example. We hear you are the thorn within, you needn't sing it 10 times. Bleeding Me is an amazing song, but it's 8 minutes long. 2x4 is a good song, but why was it placed second on the album? On Black album we have Sad But True, on Load we have 2x4. The contrast is stunning.
I was kinda fortunate that the first Metallica album I heard was the Black Album, and heard Load shortly after. and I heard both of them when I was like 9 or 10, in 2002, I think. only a couple of years later I got Master of Puppets and found out what the band actually had started as. So I basically love all their albums, as I never had the first-hand experience of witnessing them change so drastically.
You are not alone, Patrick. Both Loads are top tier albums for me, even though they are a bit uneven and could have done with a song or two fewer. I wish they'd go back to having Kirk play rhythm. I like Hetfield to the left and Kirk to the right, it gives the mix a good live feel.
Looking forward to seeing you guys listening to S&M! Bleeding me and Outlaw torn with symphony is out of this world!
Mama Said was never played on the radio. At least not in the US. They made a music video for it but it only aired in Europe.
And Australia
Load is good album
They call James "Papa Het" for a reason! We went to the midnight sale to get this album and we were all majorly disappointed but listening to it now nearly 30......years later I'm actually enjoying it! Inamorata is my favorite song on 72 Seasons and it sounds a lot like the Load era and I love it! 💗
I'm one of the few that loves load and reload
2:36:35 People lost their minds! Even I had a little "wtf?" when it first kicked into "Let my heart go"....it's just so loud and full out of nowhere.
It is VERY dynamic, that's for sure!
love this album hello from France and was lucky to see them on stage in Paris on 17th/19th of may :)
Load is my favorite metallica album. Accessible, easy to digest. Their best work to me.
I never noticed the shakers that's awesome
Nice one all around, thanks for the effort put into this Patrick. Also where's the "other" Chris? :))
Load/Reload is absolutely incredible for James' voice, as you said. These songs are fantastic live with the old (new actually :D) James' voice. He puts so much emotion into these while singing live. My favourite is Bleeding Me live, he gets so emotional during the bridge.
Great content and discussion.
I’ve always looked at Metallica’s impact like this.
One of the best genre defining debuts ever (Kill Em All)
One of the best thrash albums of all-time (Ride the Lightning)
Arguably the best thrash album of all time (Master of Puppets)
One of the best thrash/progish albums ever (And Justice for All)
Possibly the best Heavy Metal album of all time (Black)
Two great Hard Rock albums (Load, Re-Load)
It’s hard to think of many other artists that have been successful with so many variants of their genre.
And on top of that, the albums I didn’t list here, most bands would love to have written. (Minus Saint Anger)
That's a good way to describe their lasting impact!
Dude i think if you hand st anger to a nu metal band and they release it with a better mix it wouldve been a much more appreciated album. But because theyre Metallica and they fucked up the snare everyone hates it. There are some great tracks on there!
Load was fantastic, and i will die on that hill. I rocked it when it came out, and i still do.
I think this is a great album to put on in your car and just cruise... love the rock vibe of it. I came here after listening to 72 Season which reminded me of the Load/Reload era. I had to appreciate 72 Seasons to appreciate the Load/Reload albums and now I have 3 more 'Tallica albums that I love.
We recorded our Reload reaction yesterday and if I can get it edited it will be coming out this weekend! So stay tuned!
Wonderful to watch someone enjoy this album as much as i do.
34:40 No, it's the style of music that fits the James Hetfield's new voice after he fucked up his voice 5 years prior. Either way, I love these 2 albums.
Cant wait for reload reaction, some of my favorite Metallica stuff is on these two albums!
We recorded the reaction yesterday and I will try to get it edited and posted this weekend!
Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time, if not my favorite
That groove and blues sound, heavy as a mountain, great production, excellent vocals, relatable themes, and intoxicating energy
My appreciation for it only grows over the years. I feel as though someone that doesn't like at least a few songs on this album is actively wanting to hate it
