Too Far Gone?, Room of Mirrors and Inmorata have great harmonies that I really enjoy that let me keep wanting to revisit those songs. I really wish this album had more harmonies like that. If I was the producer I’d have pushed this album in the direction. Like come on lads, this is the great shite that like a great rug really ties the room together. I feel like they Metallica misinterpreted why people didn’t like LuLu. I’m upset we don’t get some of the style guitars, ballad sound from the song Jr Dad. I want to like Jr. Dad but then Lou who just sounds tone deaf talking over Metallica I want to hear. I also wish there was a Instrumental on the album. I love hearing classical metallica guitars then mixing with heavy metal guitars. Love to see them go back to those elements again. You Must Burn! Has a nice slow groove. Lux is a nice fun fast song. But overall the first listen through, I have to just accept that Metallica moves in their own direction. Right now I want the direction Tool moved into. Trippy metal. When you listen to Orion from 1986 before Tool existed. Tool as a band especially with FI have gone great metal that in an alternate reality Metallica did more in that space. More music like Orion. Taking us on a visual journey. My hopes. As an adult, Tool hasn’t let me down with their new albums. Metallica new albums I find a couple of songs I can love. Examples…. I love The Day That Never Comes & Spit Out The Bone. To me those two songs are as good as any song off the early albums. I truly love them on that level. I don’t know if I can say that with any song on here yet. But I do love those harmonies on the last 3 songs of 72 seasons.
I haven't heard Lulu yet, but I think I agree with what you are saying in that I wish there was a variety of more clean guitar sounds, and more minimalistic "ballad" sounding parts.
Really interesting and honest session guys. I know most everything Metallica (not anywhere as technically savvy as you of course) and your take on most everything was spot on. Thank you. You have a great angle for things like this. Please keep it up. Much love and appreciation from Kel and I. The Kel ‘N’Rich Show PS…My favorite Metallica cover/mash up is MFate Medley, Rich
Their live show has most recently had 16 songs - that includes encore - and lasts at least 2:00. There are several different well-placed breaks. During the hardwired tour they did a 20-minute fun break on Now That We’re Dead, just like they used to do with Seek and Destroy in the 90’s.
Appreciate you guys. First time coming across your corner of the internet. Great reaction and entertaining upload overall. New sub here. All the best for the future, guys 🤘
I feel like you're always going to hear things that sound like parts of other songs. That is to be expected from a band that has been around for so long and had basically the same songwriters the whole time. But, don't let it take away from the current song or album itself.
Really enjoyed this show. 72 comes over somewhat as a Re-Wired To Self Destruct LOL but some exceptional stuff here and now lots more to unpack thankyou! The very definition of a 'grower' and shout out to the Diamond Head-esk Too Far Gone love it! \m/

If/when you listen to Load and Reload a lot more of this album will make sense, quite often when you say something is "Black album" it's more like Load/Reload
The other guy at the end of Inamorata was James talking to Greg Fidelman, i believe he started producing for them on Death Magnetic, so if you react to that album and Hardwired, its all him. I also believe, looking at Black album behind the scenes footage of them making the album, they have a sound engineer they have used since then as well. Dont know his name.
Pretty sure Death was Rick Rubin. But if greg was involved he did all the heavy lifting. Although I think Death is my favorite album since Justice. If you count the Garage then that's my favorite by far since justice.
Yeah boys, you got to react to their death magnetic album. I want to see your opinion about the loudness war on this album that destroyed it. But the songs are still great!
They've technically made a "Making of" documentary since the black album. There was "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica" for the Black Album. There were various "Fan Can" videos for Load and Reload. Then of course there's Some kind of monster for St. Anger. Finally, Death Magnetic and Hardwired both had videos released of them making every song that you can watch on RUclips.
After listening this album 10 times or so, stating that my first impresion was meh+, now I really love the album overall. I think it's the metallica fan in me that always wants more, but always forget that they are in 2023 just like me, and time flies, and I dont know where I am in time, I forget very often that they aren't the guys who I felt in love in justice, but they are still a great band, and they are still honest, and that is a key to analysing music. If the musicians are honest, their music has to evolve just like them, evolve not in the way you want, just the way it is. You're no longer in your 20's, so you your music should sound like in your 20's, wouldn't that be trying to imitate your own young self?
There are soooooo many references to other songs sprinkled throughout this album. It’s really fun every time I catch a new one. The cameo of the guitar and drum part from Cure in Barbed Wire made me grin.
Hey that is ME wearing the yellow lol! But I will take the compliment! Chris Schoenberg (who is to my right, in the room with me) wears a different metal band shirt every day. And I mean every day too. We went garage sale-ing in 90° weather last weekend and he literally wore a black metal shirt!
2:50:48 "tHaTs nOt MeTaLLiCa" The audacity. Some nobody telling the greatest band to ever exist one of their new songs "isnt metallica" lmao only metallica get to decide what is or isnt metallica. Never met anyone that is more of a music snob than an audio engineer.
Appreciated the conversation about talking before the review and if that was needed or frustrating to viewers. Was thinking ok...get to the review. Then started getting sucked into the conversation. Enjoyed getting educated about frequency levels.
When Chris… the one next to you. Asked the other Chris after chasing light if there was any other Metallica song that started like that with the vocals. Fuel. That is the only other Metallica song I know of with just vocals in the intro
There's actually 3 cover albums. The very first garage days was on the creeping death ep and the did "am I evil" and "blitzkrieg". The second was garage days re-revisited and that had 5 songs on it and it introduced Jason into the band. It had the same 5 songs on each side. I have an original copy of the cassette and the original creeping death ep on cassette. Then in 98 they released "garage Inc" which is where they did new covers and they put all the rest of their covers on the second disc.
yep. I'm always seeing vids where youngsters are talking about Garage Inc like its the first time they did a covers. I still have my original Creeping Death Ep cassette too.
I often wonder why they turned the crunch down. They used to be known as the Captains of Krunch. That being said, I have yet to skip a song on this album. I love it.
Yeah I’ve honestly felt the last two albums were under gained. 72 tone is better than Hardwired where the guitars were distractingly weak for the material, but still missing something here. The incessant splashy hi hat got really old and I feel the album is too bassy and muddy, but still better than HW. Some EQ, more bite I’m the guitars, and don’t play the hi hat for 80 minutes straight and it’s a damn solid album.
Ngl i feel like you guys are the only other people that noticed the Batman riff in Shadows Follow, everyone else i watch never noticed and it drove me crazy lol
So many interesting ideas in this album. Love the vocal experimentations, especially. But as always with modern Metallica, everything needs to be %30 shorter. They desperately need a real producer that can say no to them, but that's not gonna happen since they seem to value the comfort and control that comes with an in-house yes-man engineer like Fidelman more. All in all a very enjoyable but "just OK" album. Inamorata is an instant classic though. Best song since The Outlaw Torn.
They say this is the most stress free album they've ever made so I can pretty much guarantee if they are all in agreement they won't let the producer change their mind.
36:09 It's pretty easy, the Hi-Hat goes away because it's not getting played on the base drum hits. Instead a crash cymbal is being played which doesn't have this splashines because it's only one cymbal and not two. Actually not difficult to get lol.
I love songs that are 5 to 8 minutes but songs that are 3 to 4 minutes are some that hit hard though. For me this album is something else. Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All and The Black Album can't be touched by any band even them, but these last 2 albums are awesome.
So, first of all very nice video! Got kinda addicted and already saw your AJFA and Black Album videos. Love this concept. Second of all, please, pretty please, when you will encounter Death Magnetic, listen to (at least) the iTunes (not so) remastered verison. It does not have the clipping that the original does and you can finally hear the instruments correctly. It is still a bit compressed, but man, its an improvement. So, again I beg you. Listen to that verison instead! Looking forward to it!
I just realized listening for the second time the album entirely with you guys, that the solo in " Crown of barbed wired" is the EXACT same solo in "Slither" of Reload
the "mercyful fate" song on garage, inc is a medley of songs by mercyful fate, and it's a prime example of metallica's covers NOT being better than the originals, though i do really like it.
you guys should listen to some of StateofMercuries reworks of Metallica songs yes it may not be a "audio engineers react" sorta thing but it would be interesting to see if you guys prefer his reworked version over the original or whatever

I'm guessing someone else posted this already, but the "awkward" Crown of Barbed Wire riff is a Kirk riff rather than James who writes most of their riffs). Actually, I believe Metallica posted the sound check video where Kirk came up with the riff a few years ago and James started playing along with him. Kirk also wrote the main riff for 72 Seasons, in case you care Also, Rob does backing vocals in a few spots for once, including the LEAN ON ME in the chorus of Chasing Light

I would group Inamorata in with the “Load” era style of closing songs with Outlaw Torn and Fixxxer. It’s like a part 3 of those 2.
100% agree!
agree, The Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, All Within My Hands, My Apocalypse, Spit Out the Bone, Inamorata, all great closers
Really interesting and honest session guys. I know most everything Metallica (not anywhere as technically savvy as you of course) and your take on most everything was spot on. Thank you.
You have a great angle for things like this. Please keep it up.
Much love and appreciation from Kel and I.
The Kel ‘N’Rich Show
PS…My favorite Metallica cover/mash up is MFate Medley,
Rich
Their live show has most recently had 16 songs - that includes encore - and lasts at least 2:00. There are several different well-placed breaks. During the hardwired tour they did a 20-minute fun break on Now That We’re Dead, just like they used to do with Seek and Destroy in the 90’s.
Appreciate you guys. First time coming across your corner of the internet. Great reaction and entertaining upload overall. New sub here. All the best for the future, guys 🤘
Thanks so much!
"Very raspy his voice is." Thanks Yoda lol
I feel like you're always going to hear things that sound like parts of other songs. That is to be expected from a band that has been around for so long and had basically the same songwriters the whole time. But, don't let it take away from the current song or album itself.
Definitly! I enjoy hearing callbacks!
Really enjoyed this show. 72 comes over somewhat as a Re-Wired To Self Destruct LOL but some exceptional stuff here and now lots more to unpack thankyou! The very definition of a 'grower' and shout out to the Diamond Head-esk Too Far Gone love it! \m/
All I can say is "what a album!" Love almost all the tracks from this album.
I love the lad in the blue top. It’s like he’s out of his head on coke. This album is amazing, by the way. The Yellow Album rules.
I don't know what the fuck happened to my phone that made me spam reply your comment but I'm so sorry about that.
Anyways I was trying to say that I completely agree with you and thought he was drugged tf out during the Kill Em All video
Yeah he’s tweaked on every video
If/when you listen to Load and Reload a lot more of this album will make sense, quite often when you say something is "Black album" it's more like Load/Reload
I was thinking that might be the case. I am honestly excited to hear them!
you're spot on with sleepwalk my life away chorus sounding like 90's grunge - but its so good!
1:38:03 The 3 descending notes sound so much like the tone from Sad But True.
This is my favorite from the album.
Room of Mirrors is top tier. Shout out to Chris for wearing a yellow shirt. Takes alot of confidence to wear pure yellow.
@@PatrickMusilek My bad, Patrick. I really enjoy your channel and can’t wait to see the rest of your reactions.
2:50:48 "tHaTs nOt MeTaLLiCa"
The audacity. Some nobody telling the greatest band to ever exist one of their new songs "isnt metallica" lmao only metallica get to decide what is or isnt metallica.
Never met anyone that is more of a music snob than an audio engineer.
I watched the whole thing. Thank You guys. 🎉
No thank you! And just so you know, pir Reload reaction just came out an hour or so ago!!!
Watching as we speak!
Appreciated the conversation about talking before the review and if that was needed or frustrating to viewers. Was thinking ok...get to the review. Then started getting sucked into the conversation. Enjoyed getting educated about frequency levels.
I guess I got the end of saturday/beginning of sunday covered! Thanks guys!
2:06:49 Blue Chris knows how to recognize a badass riff
This was awesome. Im only an amateur dabbler with audio stuff but its pretty cool to hear people talk about production.
Chasing light is like is pretty much lords of summer hashed from all the unused riffs in f sharp
And this new release is a covers' album of their own albums all mixed together.
@@michaelh7453 pretty much yeah.
I used to sing the 1,2,3,4,5 song all the time. So incredibly catchy and well arranged!
Half of the songs are way too short.
36:09 It's pretty easy, the Hi-Hat goes away because it's not getting played on the base drum hits. Instead a crash cymbal is being played which doesn't have this splashines because it's only one cymbal and not two. Actually not difficult to get lol.
When he sings "wire" it sounds like a wire. Love it
I love songs that are 5 to 8 minutes but songs that are 3 to 4 minutes are some that hit hard though. For me this album is something else. Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All and The Black Album can't be touched by any band even them, but these last 2 albums are awesome.
1:21:52 - maybe you're thinking of one of these songs?
Alice in Chains - Rooster
Audioslave - Like a Stone
For me, Screaming Suicide is like a mix of Through the Never & Creeping Death. And I LOVE it
So, first of all very nice video!
Also boy oh boy does the fellow on the right look like Jason Newsted!
First seconds of Room Of Mirrors I was jaw dropped... Thought it was Stormbringer from Deep Purple!! XD
Hell yeah. Love the album
I think they are just having fun and enjoying making music after all these years for us as fans.🤘🔥🤘🔥
you guys should listen to some of StateofMercuries reworks of Metallica songs yes it may not be a "audio engineers react" sorta thing but it would be interesting to see if you guys prefer his reworked version over the original or whatever
That sounds interesting! I will look into it!
my list of 72 seasons songs
12. Crown of Barbed wire
11. Lux Aeterna
10. If darkness had a son
9. Screaming Suicide
8. Too Far Gone?
7.Sleepwalk my Life away
6. 72 Seasons
5. Shadows Follow
4. Room of Mirrors
3. Chasing Light
2. You Must Burn!
1. Inamorata
I laughed so hard when you said Godsmack and the look on your friends face.
Godsmack is an ongoing joke with these videos, but I DO like them. VOODOO!
@@PatrickMusilek I don’t know about them. One of my favorite bands growing up was Alice In Chains. They had a song called Godsmack which I believe is a reference to heroin. Anyways I thought Godsmack was way too influenced by Alice In Chains. Example Voodoo sounds close to Would? by Alice In Chains.
⚡ Title Track, Screaming Suicide and Lux are probably my favorites of this album I'm kinda on the fence about the other songs. Sorry for changing my comment my bad😂
I think I agree. Its a toss up between that one and If Darkness Had a Son...oh but I love the 11 minute one at the end as well!
Those triplets on Too Far Gone? are one of the best things in the album... yet way too short...
But somehow it felt like The Offspring... IDKW
Yet more Offspring in Room Of Mirrors at 2:47:25 !!
I haven’t even listened to myself yet. I think I’ll listen with you guys. I heard a few. I kind of know what expect.
Garage inc. is new covers and a reissue of the original garage days revisited and all of the covers that they would put on their singles. Garage Days Revisited ep might be one of my top Metallica albums. James sounds really fucking good and the recording is one of my favorites from the early days. Also one of the rare times where it sounds like they were having fun in the studio.
We are 100% going to react to Garage Inc. in fact, i just got my cd copy in the mail yesterday! But first we need to finish the studio albums!
@7 min mark the Garage Days. The $5.98 E.P. album is all older covers the newer Garage Inc. is more covers with the older Garage Days included. The older songs are killer stuff and should listen to them.
If Darkness had a son intro first melody totally gives me AJFA vibes
I agree with C Parker about Metallica being afraid to make short songs. On Death Magnetic, the song The End of the Line would be one of my favorites if it was 4 minutes. But that shit goes on for 7 minutes for no reason.
Gosh. I’m loving this but I gotta say I’m watching it on 1.25x and it’s incredibly fun and hilarious that way too 😂
Oh I'm gonna try that!
This is my first time here and I absolutely loved listening to you guys break down this album from a professional point of view. 👍 I was definitely feeling bored on the first listen but now it's on non-stop.
Make sure to check out our other Metallica reactions but beware, a lot of people were frustrated that I talked too much over the music during the Ride and Master reactions. However, I learned from that and I think the Justice, Black Album, and Kill Em All reactions are much better!
@@PatrickMusilekI love you guys talking, that's kind of the point of a reaction video. Bizarre that people get angry about it too; put the album on if you just want to hear the songs. Your other videos are great too ( St Anger was a rollercoaster 😂)
Awesome videos! Congrats for all of you. Your opinion is very important, and objetive. Im so sorry for my bad english, im from Argentina! I see all your videos, and wait the Hardwired self-destruct album Video. I love hear you, and analized song by song. Grettings from Bariloche, Argentina!
pd: maybe you talk so much in the middle of song, but is a little problem of my brain haha :) and man left is simillary Marco Hietala from Nigtwish..little little jaja
360p it is, I don't have the patience to wait for the HD to process
this is going to be a classic album watch
FUEL starts with vocals!
Yeah we have really given both Chrises a hard time about that since then lol!
Guy in yellow says he wouldn’t know if it was like kill ‘‘em all , song to far gone, if you don’t know kill ‘em all then you aren’t a Metallica fan, incredible album, totally no remorse
All of these guys are near 60 years old, well Kirk is already there, and they are still playing this good. INSANE
Glad to hear pros share my love for Inamorata.
Agree with Webcam Chris - first thought I had on Room of Mirrors was that the vocals were very “Garage Inc’ey”
The major development the band made for this album is that they turned the bass up slightly in the mix.
55:04 That's perceptive, and makes total sense knowing Hetfield loves Aerosmith and idolized Steven Tyler and Joe Perry when he was a kid.
Someone please draw a zig zagging black line on Charlie Brown's shirt! Loved it!
2:23:00 Those single note riffs in the higher frets of the thick strings are quite St. Anger style, there's a few on Death Magnetic too.
Kirk also wrote the main riff for 72 Seasons, in case you care
Also, Rob does backing vocals in a few spots for once, including the LEAN ON ME in the chorus of Chasing Light
That is awesome! Seems like it is a rare occurrence in Metallica's catalogue, so definitely worth mentioning!
The last song takes a lot of inspiration from different Black Sabbath songs
It really is Sabbathy I love it
Robert Trujillo doing "the Alice In Chains" singing on You Must Burn
The Batman reference on shadows follow fits the colorsceme of the album as well. Wished they included the Blackened-acoustic-song as bonus track
The yellow man talks like he knows everything.
He calls Crown of barbed wire a bloody demo ...lol !!!! Fantastic song.
😂
Everyone else may hate Kirk's solo on Lux Æterna but i think it's really cool.
I dont see a problem with it. Every part of it he has done in other solos before!
Metallica are still making some of the best and most relevant music in 2023 and they started in 1981. Can we please give them some credit?
Definitely put this album after Load era, blues riffs and James lyrics and vocal sound. My favorite is probably lux and to far gone 🤘🤘
Well with the S&M you can use a DVD for the show. Would look for n BluRay copy now. But the show is amazing.
