Gary Richrath was an extremely underrated guitarist. Great song with a positive message of self help.
Righto ,Rick..Check out Gary cooking with gas on Midnight Special in seventies performing the classic "Ridin' the Storm Out."
Absolutely agree‼️
LOVE Gary...loved he and Kevin together. "Keep pushin" is another badsss positive song. Lmao when I crank REO, I get all kinds of work done
Agreed. One of the best. RIP Gary.
Yes he was...
I’ve been waiting for this one. Maybe the best REO song ever. Killer tune. Great lyrics. Great music. Great vocal. Holds up to this day and always will. As someone else said, Richrath was a beast. Great guitarist.
"Roll With the Changes" is from the album, "You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can't Tuna Fish", which is excellent. I'd highly recommend "Time For Me to Fly" from the same album.
"Hi Infidelity", this album, and Foreigner "4" were my jams for swim meets in Junior High. Put on my Walkman, turn these all the way up, and shut everything out until I had to swim.
the entire album is a classic example of true musicianship!!
TIME FOR ME TO FLY....Awesome song.
@@christikirk7265 right!!
@@dannymarr414 Thanks Dan Marr. Love my Reo!
Richrath played in such a way that it looked effortless . His pinch harmonics, high distortion and a classic Gibson Les Paul were perfect. I firmly believe he’s the one who put this band on the map. The guy was phenomenal. It’s unfortunate that he’s passed too soon.
REO Speedwagon's live performances are fabulous!!
Absolutely. Just saw them Friday night with Styx and Loverboy.
Oh hell yeah. Some people listen to an album like "High Infidelity"... and they have not clue how REO ... ROCKS. I've seen them several times and wow, one of the best live bands ever!
First song I ever heard from REO and I loved it! 157 Riverside Avenue was the second and that was Icing on the cake! Seen them in concert maybe 6 times, they never disappoint.
hello from 149 royal ave..
REO was my 1st concert, and they closed with ROLL WITH THE CHANGES. The energy was spectacular. Everybody walked out to the parking lot with big goofy smiles on their faces.
My first show too! Survivor opened for them
@@keithkinkade4265 Not my first, but awesome nevertheless! Gary was on fire!
One of my all time favorites, for sure!!!!! Such an upbeat song that has great meaning to it... If you're tired of the same old story, turn some pages..... Classic lyrics all throughout the song.... Keep on rolling Asia and BJ.... Love your channel.... Come on guys, they need only 7,000 subscribers to reach 200 thousand.... Let's do this!!!!!!!! Peace out guys.....
I like them because they don't pause as much as others.
I am seeing these guys this Saturday. REO Speedwagon is touring with Loverboy and Styx. This will be the third time in 45 years that I will see REO Speedwagon I have seen them tour with other folks as well. I am stoked to see them again this weekend😎
REO was the first concert I went to. It was my 12th birthday back in 1982. Best concert of my lifetime!
It never ceases to amaze me, look up any REO Speedwagon video on youtube and one of of every 2 comments is about the absolute brilliant guitarist Gary Richrath, who never got his due but was one easily one of the best rock guitarists, up there with the greats
My absolute FAVORITE REO Speedwagon song‼️ Founder Neal Doughty ROCKS the organ like no one else in Rock‼️
REO takes us all to church on this 1 . great reaction you 2!
Thanks for reacting to this absolute banger! Most people know REO from their popular ballads. But they’re a legit great Rock band!
“Don’t Let Him Go” is another awesome track you want to check out!
one of my all-time favorite rock performances of the 70's... always gives me goosebumps and some tears as well... just love it...
I miss Gary Richrath!
My all time favorite guitarist 🎸.
RIP Gary you inspired a whole generation of guitar players.
RIP Gary Richrath! Left us way too soon. Wonderful guitarist. Gotta love those distinctive tonsils of Kevin Cronin too. A very talented bunch of musicians all round!
...when you hear the message within this song...., especially if you've been hurting inside, it's like a total EPIPHANY of good vibes and goosebumps; a boost of confidence!!! Love it!!!
“Felt the desert burning…until you follow me like a sweet sun shower.”
I’ve always loved that line…great group. “Keep Pushin’, “Time For Me To Fly.”
Wasn't that "fall on me", not "follow me"?
“Until you poured on me like sweet sun shower”
@@GodFaThEr09877 Thank you for the correct line.
Gary Richrath .. RIP ... absolute Badass
Reo Speedwagon is so underrated and more people need to listen to his catalogue of music
Great REO song. REO Speedwagon , named after the the little red wagon drag racer. Other REO Speedwagon songs to check out - Back on the Road Again, Riding the Storm Out, Can't Fight This Feeling, Time For Me To Fly, In My Dreams, Don't Let Him Go, In Your Letter, Keep Pushing, Golden Country, One Lonely Night, Keep the Fire Burning, Tough Guys, and Flying Turkey Trot.
Great list.....I'll add "Only the Strong Survive".
@@Tesses0927 - Every song on the hi INfiDELITY album was great. There's another one that didn't get too much acclaim, "That Ain't Love." I think it's a killer song!
EDIT - I didn't mean to imply that "That Ain't Love" was on the hi INfiDELITY album.
I think the original "REO Speed Wagon" was actually a truck manufactured around 1915 by the Ransom E. Olds Co (for whom "Oldsmobile" cars were later named). This has got to be my favorite song of theirs, although they do have a lot of great ones. And Gary Richrath was a tremendously underrated guitarist.
Great list..I'll add " Like you do"
@@jensen220 Yeah, it reminds me of something by Survivor but with better guitar work.
Gary Richrath was a BEAST on guitar. R.I.P.
Kevin Cronin is an amazing vocalist! The way he enunciates his words gives his voice a totally unique sound! Greatest bands from 70's and 80's, Journey and REO❤❤❤
REO were a mainstay of AOR radio in the '70s, and '80s. There are SO MANY great REO songs for you to react to. Asia's smile as she listened was priceless. More REO, please! 😎👊👍
I love that neither one of you wanted to stop the song, a great testimony to a great song. Roll with the changes, or be unhappy - it's your choice. Love you guys!
One of their best songs. A real banger.
As great as this song is recorded, it’s even better LIVE.
Saw them again in Charlotte the other night and to see and hear 25,000 people singing this song in unison really is a spirit lifting moment.
REO taking us to CHURCH!!
Absolute fire! One of the hottest guitar solos all the way through. Gary Ricrath was a rock and roll GAWD. LOVE IT 😍
Rock on!
This is a jam! You cannot go wrong with the extraordinary REO Speed wagon and that harmony. So frickin awesome. ❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is one of my favorites by them. The other is “Don’t Let Him Go”, a great, high energy song. It seems that it’s not remembered as much as some of their other songs.
Cronin killed it on this song! Saw them for like the 5+ time in Mesa, 2019 (small venue).
Have a lot of respect for him. Very positive person. Talked at length about a family trip to Israel to visit all the religious sites with his whole family. 👍
Hi Guys-If no one suggested it, the live performance of this from 1985 Live Aid is awesome. Kevin is playing piano and singing when the microphone drops. He doesn't miss a beat, fixes it and keeps on going. Also you will see members of the Beach Boys and their families, and others helping sing back up. Really cool.
Thank you very much!!! for the video reaction of REO Speedwagon and his song Roll With The Changes!!! The Best Rock and Roll and Hard Rock Band of All Times!!!...Keep Rockin' Julio From Venezuela!!!
Glad you got to this one! Killer organ and guitar solos. I’m a sucker for great organ sounds, too. Great, energetic uplifting song with an inspiring message.
This is an amazingly uplifting song!
Just saw them in concert two weeks ago. In their 70’s and still sound fantastic!!!
My favorite from REO is Riding the storm out... Dad had You can Tune a Piano album when it released so I've been following REO a long time. Solid band
*Really like a good bit of their recordings. I finally got to see them in the mid 90s when in my mid 30s, and they were really good live.*
Gary made that guitar talk.
My favorite REO song by a country mile. Love this one!
This song is fire. I always feel good after listening to it. Lot's of rock bands in the 70's used the organ a lot (Boston and Tom Petty come to mind). Time for me to Fly is a great song off that album as well.
Yup! This was just your average Grade A+++ classic rock song from the late 1970s! This song was super popular then and still is. It will show up regularly on the Classic Rock stations, and the organ and electric guitar are so excellent! And the background singers are just killing it. Plus the positive message of the lyrics will lift your spirits. REO Speedwagon did this live on the Larry King show one time and what fun it was. The guitarist was Gary Richrath and he was obviously top flight but quit the band in the 1980s. This is so good it sounds like guitar laden Southern Rock. They put out a Blu-ray with this on it for a PBS Sound Stage performance in the later 2000s. If you like this I do believe you can pick up the concert up for a very reasonable price off the internet. They had a lot of their hits on it! 😉👌💘😎🎸🎸🎸
I grew up listening to Kevin Cronin's voice pouring out of my big sister's speakers. I graduated right from Sesame Street to REO Speedwagon.
Patrick Hodges, My sister took me to VanHalen & REO Speedwagon concerts in 1978. I Feel ya, But I loved it.
Wife here..One of my favorite REO Speedwagon's classics..."That's just what life is today"..So well said BJ..Sweet comment to Asia from her Man today!!!..Agreed!!!..Was Blessed to see them in concert 2001..Beautiful voice Ms. Asia.. The vibe..The Advice.."Inspirational".."Organ took you there" yesss
Decades ago when my wife was just my girlfriend I used this song to help convince her to run away with me! It worked - 22 years later, still glad we turned some pages together
Asia & BJ, their smash hit "Can't Fight This Feeling" is next for you!! Kevin Cronin on lead vocals.
Yes the electric piano, the organ? Ooohh the steady energy, the presence, great sound!!
This song was one of my sthems for when I started college in the fall of '79. This is from the more rockin' era of REO before the power ballad era. The late, great Gary Richrath was the guitar player. He was one of the best in rock music. He left us to soon like do mant others. Kevin Cronan sings, plays piano, and some guitar. Try their first hit is Ridin' the Storm Out from 1973 or 74. Another rockin' 70s song Check it out!
Started college the same year. Lots of REO.
I was fortunate enough to see REO, Foghat, Rossington Collins and Billy Squire all at the same show in 1981 at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando Fla.
You can't go wrong with reo speedwagon from Champaign, Illinois. RIP Gary Richrath. Lucky for me from the "tuna fish" album is another banger.
In my opinion this is one of the definitive songs of the mid-late 70's. Awesome song!
REO LIVE-You Get What You Play For 1977: Like You Do.. Keep Pushin.. 157 Riverside Ave.. ** Gary's Guitar Solo**.. They most definitely lit up the summer of 77'..
Just saw them last Friday night with Styx and Loverboy, absolutely awesome live. We were 6th row back and it rocked.
Yeah there's something about the song it feels liberating and I love how you guys break it down both in terms of the meeting and Asia how you were really feeling it and then you come back in my friend with the analytical breakdown of the music side of it. It all works together. Highly enjoyable.
I also noticed that you all reacted to this song twice. Not a problem at all cuz I liked both reactions! A song this great deserves more than one! Much love to you two!
The strength of this song is not the lyrics even though its a significant part of what made REO what they were but the significance of REO was the integration of their keyboard rifts which were so iconic that they became their signature but also they had one of the most iconic lead guitar players of all time Gary Ringwraith (sic) with some killer 3 part harmony
And that people is how rock and roll is done right. My favorite song by REO Speedwagon.
REO was right up there with Journey for Arena Rock Bands. To view them live is a must!
I would put this song in the Top 50 R&R Songs in Music History.
Yall need to do Keep Pushin next! Reo Speedwagon had tons of great stuff!
Awesome vocals and guitar in this song. REO has a lot of great tunes.
You can't beat that Hammond B-3 organ/Leslie speaker sound!
One of the true "Rock Anthems" !! R&R HOF stuff !! Love you guys !!
A great favorite growing up, awesome song!
I just saw them live in grand Rapids Michigan may 31st with Styx's and Loverboy it was amazing all their songs brought back memories got great video second time seeing them first time 81
They also rock out to "Don't Let Him Go"! Love that bass intro!
Damn, REO SPEEDWAGON, timeless! Love TAKE IT ON THE RUN....KEEP ON LOVIN' YOU! They are timeless...
Wow what a GREAT Surprise...REO One of my all time favorite bands. Time for me to fly ...is another great song
Forgot about that song. Thanks for bringing it back. Y’all are awesome
I just wanted to say I love these two people on this reaction channel. The guy is not arrogant and is so decent and Asia is so lovely with her lovely face. I'm a British male fan of this page. Can I request you listen to Bachman Turner Overdrive you ain't seen nothing yet or laid by James if you have not already heard of these two songs or done a video already. Keep up the good Work!
“Changes” was common slang in the 70’s for problems similar to how we use “drama” today. It could apply to relationships, jobs, economy…
Back in the early 80s, there was a band that played this as well as so many other rock classics
REO always had good uplifting songs!. Keep on loving you was backseat music 🥰
R.E.O. concerts are as clear and crisp as their albums sound. The best concerts ever. Unbelievable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great song with an instrumental fiesta!! The Rolling Stone's "Rocks Off" is the same way too with Ian Stewart going crazy on the piano...Love it.
Try the tunes, Say You Love Me or Say Goodnight, and Time For Me To Fly. They're from this album. Also, try the live version of Riding The Storm Out, from the album, You Get What You Play For....RIP Gary Richrath....
Great band, great song. Brings back a lot of memories.
They’re still touring and still sound great!
As I mentioned on another post here: a product of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois (go Fighting Illini!). Likely the most interesting thing to come out of C-U since David Foster Wallace (or maybe Hugh Hefner LOL).
One of the most slept on bangers of all time. This song is like going to the best carnival, so many delights in one package.
Really good band. I would suggest earlier hits like Ridin the Storm Out or Golden Country. Both from their live album which was prior to this.
Keep up the great journey you are on. Enjoy your reactions.
This my Favorite song by REO Speedwagon, I like when they played this song on the Midnight Special
This tune helped me through the greatest episode of "forbidden' love in my whole life. All at the tender age of 17. Ladies - never tell a guy that you know is crazy about you would be going out with him if you weren't with your current boyfriend. And then don't stay with him for three years while you head off to university.
Yeah Asia Gorgeous 😍 Oh yeah, REO Speedwagon my favorite band since 1975.
This is such a grear song - it just flows over you with positive energy and great musical talent. They became too poppy for me, but early REO have some truly great songs. Try Riding the Storm Out, Time for Me to Fly, Golden Country....
And Gary Richrath was an underrated guitarist. Listen to his 2nd lead on this - he holds each roff at the end and then fades in the next tasty riff, and does it 4 times! Really cool.
when the the keyboard solo meets the guitar solo...magic
First saw them in 1978.Seen them 8 or 9 times since,Always a fun show!
I really want to see someone react to the live version of this. I remember they used to play the version you guys did, and then the live version came out, and the radios started playing that instead. The mix was even better, and everything is just a little more punchy. Probably the greatest live performance ever caught on video. Please do that one too, and see the difference. How can a song be more amazing then this? Oh the live version is.
One of the most inspiring songs ever. Epic song.
Been browsing through your videos, and was going to suggest this song too. XD Seems you've gone through it already. Absolute gem of song.
Greatness At It's Peak! Speedwagon Definitely Has Rolled With An Incredible Amount of Changes Through The Many Years! I'd Love To Hear Your Reaction.. With My Personal Favorite Classic- "Golden Country" -
REO Speedwagon
Back On The Road Again
Riding The Storm Out
Great rocking band. Unique vocals from Kevin Cronyn
I always loved this song it always got my attention on the radio tur😊 it up!
My buddy roadied for these guys during their hey day,, lots of stories.
Weirdest thing about this song it was a hit on cassette. But really the best live in concert song ever. Still their last song to this day and everyone, old and young all standing, dancing and singing roll with the changes
You can tell Asia is really getting into this song ,, then all of a sudden BJ pauses it and then she has that " WTF " look on her face. Hehehehehe You can tell she really digs good guitar playing.
I always loved the name of the album. It reminds me of my dad who was always telling bad jokes and puns.
Love it. Great message, too. Keep getting up...Thanks guys.
Amoung Many great songs, Golden Country, is a thoughtful rocker of theirs that has foid for thought...
Peace....
Thanks for listening
