REO Speedwagon formed in 1967 but came to prominence mostly in the mid-70's and through the 80's. Their lead singer is Kevin Cronin. The name applies to the band, not just the lead singer. The name is pronounced "ARE EE OH Speedwagon." The object in the fish's mouth is a tuning fork, a device tuned to oscillate (vibrate) at a very precise frequency and prior to digital electronics was the most accurate means of tuning certain instruments like pianos (in fact, they're still used for that purpose by many professional tuners.) I think that answered most of your questions. Nice reaction Britt!

One of their best songs! It also contains one of the top lyric lines of all time (for me anyway)…”So if you’re tired of the same old stories, baby turn some pages.” A bit of truth right there! Glad you enjoyed this!

Yet another band that proves the Rock and Roll HOF is a joke for them not being in it.
They formed in 1967 but didn't hit stardom until 1980 and the Album "Hi Infidelity". Lead singer Kevin Cronin and guitarist Gary Richrath were the driving force during their biggest years. They have sold over 40 million albums and 13 top 40 hits. Also one of the many live shows I've seen and it was one hit after another.

The band is named after a 1915 truck called a Ransom Eli Olds Speedwagon... REO Speedwagon is the somewhat shortened version, hence the name of the band, which was originally formed in 1967. I've seen them in concert 4 times, and they never disappoint! Always a fun show! 😊

Time for an REO history lesson. They were formed in 1967 at the University of Illinois in Champaign. The keyboard player with the wicked organ solo, Neal Doughty, was one of the founding members who came up with the name in his history of transportation class. The original REO (initials R.E.O.) Speedwagon named for the founder of the REO motor car company, Ransom Eli Olds, (later founder of the Oldsmobile company) was a truck from the early 1900's that was one of the first heavy duty trucks with speed and power mostly used as a fire truck. The hellish guitar solo was played by the great late Gary Richrath. The drum tracks were laid down by another original member Alan Gratzer. The lead singer who is still with the band is Kevin Cronin the voice behind all the power ballad hits from the 80's like Keep On Lovin You and Can't Fight This Feelin both number one hits. This song was from 1978 album called You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna FIsh.. By the way it's a Piano tuning fork in the fishes mouth, thus the pun. The harder rock songs were from the 70's and include must listens such as Golden Country, Keep Pushin, Riding The Strom Out(live version) Time For Me To Fly, Back On The Road Again (Sung by the bass player Bruce Hall). Their biggest hits were from the 80's and were more pop. The biggest album was Hi Infidelity from 1981(album of the year) with 4 top 40 hits including Keep On Lovin You, and the fantastic Take It On The Run (#5). Great all American Rock band still on the road playing to sold out venues all over the country. Most of their songs are about feeling better and fighting through the tough times in life and love. Start down the REO rabbit hole and enjoy the ride.

The name of the band is REO (said one letter at a time) Speedwagon. This song is from the 1970's. Lead singer Kevin Cronin is one of the top voices of all time.

One of my very favorite Album names. You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tune A Fish!!! And that thing in the fish's mouth is a tuning fork thats used when you tune a piano. R.E.O. Speedwagon is a band and they're surprising!!!! ❤❤❤❤

this is my "hit the wall" song .. I'm 65 now .. I remember when this album was released... LOVE the tuning fork in the fish's mouth ... Hence "can't tuna fish" .. 😉
When I hit the wall .. screwed up, knew I had to find another way ... I'd sit down with my headphone and listen to this song ...
    There's always another way ... a better way ...

    R. E. O. Speedwagon is a 1970’s/80’s band of 5 very talented musicians Gary Richrath lead guitar, Kevin Cronin lead vocals/ guitar, piano. , Neal Doughty keyboards, Alan Gratzer drums and Bruce Hall bass Gary was so good and had one of the best guitar tones, I just loved that he would find space in just about any song and play a solo 🤘. Hahaha. The live version of the song “157 Riverside Ave” is worth a listen

I grew up in central Illinois and luckily, they released Hi Infidelity my freshmen year of high school. What a time to be alive. I've seen them live over a dozen times in everything from small venues to huge stadiums. In fact, the first date I went on with my now wife was to a REO concert in Peoria, IL in 1993.

Nobody talks with guitar the way Gary does! Arguably 1 of the most underrated guitarists in rock n roll. listen to 157 Riverside Ave, the best.

It's a band-; the name is from a historic truck that they were studying in keyboardist Neil Doughty's History of Transportation class at the University of Illinois back in 1967 right at the time when drummer Alan Gratzer said he wanted to be in a band with Doughty so they should think of a name. Nothing really to do with the band, just a coincidence.
Then they went through four guitarists before they found the Most Underrated Guitarist of All Time (no, seriously, he won a poll), the late great Gary Richrath. In the early days, Gary wrote most of the songs as they went through several singers, but Kevin Cronin (heard here) also ended up writing many successful songs, including this one.
(BTW, it is R.E.O. Speedwagon, using initials rather than a word. Ransom Eli Olds had founded one of the great early car companies, Oldsmobile. [They were one of the original parts of General Motors.] But since corporate infighting in 1908 was not so different from today, Olds got tossed out of his own company and founded a new company, R.E.O., who made the truck Doughty was studying.
An actual R.E.O. Speedwagon is seen on the cover of their debut album.)
A fantastic live band, which kept them going through the rough years until they hit it big. This song is from 1978, but in 1977, they put out one of the great live albums, "You Get What You Play For". If you like, you can start right at the beginning with "Like You Do" (one of Gary's best songs) and go straight through to the end, "Golden Country", which is perhaps THE best.
    So much to discover! Enjoy!
