LOL,..wouldn't depend on youtube or views for great songs. Many people today aren't even familiar with many of the great groups or music. Especially from the earlier days.
@@bohem5568 I’ve had some amazing suggestions come from RUclips comments, majority of my audience are fans of 60s 70s 80s
@@SalvoG Don't doubt it. My point is in regard to referencing or using the numbers and popularity on youtube as any type of gauge for quality of songs or groups.
Their live version of "Ridin' The Storm Out" is a classic.
Yes! Excellent song and performance. Good call!
One specific live version more than others
Must check this out.
Listen to the Live Album version of Ridin' the Storm Out. Gary Richrath was a monster guitar player, and this is a band that truly was a monster in the live environment.
“Last song, people!”
Gary was one of the all-time great show man . I have seen them more times than I can count through three decades. I really like their first two albums.
“Golden Country” is a song Gary Richrath wrote and his guitar solos on the live version are unbelievable. Gary wrote or cowrote many of REO’s great songs.

Totally agree, the live version is the best!
You picked the *perfect* song. Totally showcases their talent.
I'd have to say Golden Country is a better highlight of musical skills than Roll With the Changes. Not to start an argument, but Golden Country has shades of soft and loud, fast and slow, and a massive amount of fast guitar riffs played in tandem. Skill. That said, Roll is a better venue to experience Cronin, and certainly catchier. I was a fan for life after hearing Time For Me to Fly.
This song Was MASSIVE and got a ton of airplay!
I wake up to this song every day. It's my morning alarm!
I love this so much! ❤
Gary Richrath is so underrated. He helped change REO into a massively incredible live act and he could write guitar parts and solos into pop music like few players could. Cronin and Richrath were a force when sharing the stage together.
Agree. Band should have been called Gary Speedwagon. Keyboards, Vocals would have been nothing without Gary. Gary is God😀
The band was formed in 1966 but went through several member changes before winding up with the vocals of Kevin Cronin and guitar of Gary Richrath who were the backbone of the band for years to come.
REO Speedwagon was formed in 1967 but had their biggest hits in the 80's such as "Keep On Loving You", "Can't Fight This Feeling", "In Your Letter", "Don't Let Him Go", "Keep The Fire Burnin'", "Sweet Time", "I Do' Wanna Know", "One Lonely Night", "Live Every Moment", "In My Dreams", "Take It On The Run" etc.
The album high infedelity is so freaking good ✌️
Don't forget (That ain't love)
And my favorite "Keep Pushin'" ... 1.o0
Ridin the Storm Out was probably one of their earliest big hits.
Time for me to fly is one of their best.
I guess you have figured out why we old folks are so hard on today’s music? Warms my heart to see and hear you appreciate it!
This didnt chart as well as some of their other songs but got lots of radio play and was always a fan favorite.
Yeah, REO is deep rabbit hole. This song grew in popularity because it is that good. REO Speedwagon is a testament to perseverance. They just kept playing and writing and working until no one could deny them anymore. They started in the late 60s; by the 80s they were superstars with hit after hit after hit song. I consider Gary Richrath to be one of the best guitarists that has ever lived. Go listen to the solo from "Take it On the Run". It's a masterpiece.
reo and molly hatchat are two bands that do songs so they have an excuse for a guitar solo, love it, love it, love it
Fun Fact: When REO was promoting a Wal-Mart "exclusive album., Find Your Own Way Home, they set in the diaper aisle of my local store. They played 5 or 6 songs as if they were playing to an arena instead of the 100 or so of us who were there. They had a meet and great afterwards, I've been to many concerts but this ranks as one of my favorites.
saw them in 81-82, one of the great shows I've seen.... RIP Gary
The live stream will not steer you wrong. I’ve been known to quote the great philosophers REO Speedwagon… “So if you’re tired of the same old story, turn some pages”. Wise words.Remembered since 1978. Loved your reaction.
Totally love that line! This song is a banger for sure...FIRE right out of the gate!
My personal fav REO song. Tight, clean, and in the groove. Love it.
Well, Okay, then... lol, I know! Some of us lived it LIVE!
"Choo Choo Mama" by Ten Years After, with the great Alvin Lee. Original track. You won't be disappointed with this boogie favorite.
Love REO! “Roll with the Changes” and “Time for me to Fly” got me through a divorce. “Riding the storm Out” is about being stuck in me beloved Rocky Mountains in a snowstorm. You MUST listen to the LIVE version! “Take it one the Eun and “Keep on Loving You” are other favorites
Same here went through a divorce and my heart and soul were shattered and this song just made me feel so much better about myself glad it helped you
I can't believe you're hearing this for the first time. This used to be on the radio. I feel old....
Check out live video of "Golden Country" for the most epic guitar solo
This is one of the most kick ass tunes of that time
Some great musicianship in that band; Gary Richrath was a guitar god. Saw them the first time in 1972 on the REO T.W.O. album tour. They started out as more of a regional Midwest band but their national popularity caught fire in the late Seventies and early Eighties. Don't stop here...
I was a lil kid in the early 70s....they used to play at Gatsby's in Carbondale IL
Gary Richrath was so f underrated.
@@marlew6629 Except by those who saw him play live in concert...
@@Scott65J Grew up in Saint Louis. They were loved there too...
Champaign, IL band with Gary Richrath being from Des Moines. I was 18 when this came out, it’s truly a part of my teens and 20’s.
REO - Back on the road again is their best hard song!
I was fortunate enough to see REO at the World Series of Rock in Milwaukee, WI. I loved it.
I can't believe you took so long to find anything out about REO. It amazes me they could be unknown today, as they were so popular. Great music shouldn't go into the abyss of obscurity so easily.
Sal, I LOVE it when you….ahem……”attempt” to sing along! It shows your enthusiasm and it means you’re happy. It puts a big grin on my face. THANKS! I’ve always had to be careful not to get a speeding ticket when this song comes on classic radio……It tends to make me euphoric…..and that can lead to speed! 😎😁
After The Beatles inspired a generation of musicians in the '60s, there was a musical explosion that reverberated for over 20 years, where incredible music was being released on a near daily basis. There was so much great music coming out that some songs, like this one, flew a bit under the radar; however, those of us who listened to album oriented Rock radio, knew this song well.
You should check out their their big hit, the live version of "Ridin' the Storm Out." It's amazing. The album version is also amazing, but the band had a different lead singer for that album and, even though the singer sounds great, the live version, with Kevin Cronin, is now the definitive version.
By the late eighties in New York GM radio stations played their tunes on a regular basis
I lived on this song in the 80's. It was an ANTHEM for moving on and surviving! EXCELLENT tune, excellent group!!!
Great 70's and 80's band.
Not many bands have a Hammond organ solo but REO nailed it!
I love REO!! I dedicated a song to a crush on a radio on Valentine’s Day back in 84. “Can’t Fight This Feeling” 💔
Thank you playing this one!!! I went and seen them in 1978 with my best friend, we were both 16 at the time. I fell in love with them, fast forward 40 years later, the same friend, me and my now husband saw them again! They are one of my favorites.
This band and song got a major boost in recent years because they were featured in the Netflix series "Ozark," which was very popular (the band even made a brief apparance). "Time for me to fly" also used in the show. I think they had been largely forgotten until that happened. Lots of changes in the band lineup over the years. Some are dead now.
Gary Richrath is & will always be one of my favorite guitar players.
There is a live video of this group playing on Halloween. The song is Golden Country from the live album, You Get What You Paid For. It is truly a outstanding video performance.
Golden Country is what a protes/social statementt song should sound like.
Great song.
REO Speedwagon always brought the sauce, no doubt about it.
Love Gary R love this band period! I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them 6 times and they were the great each time
Dude; if this song didn’t send you to another universe; I think you got it. It’s the most inspiring songs you’ll ever. FEEL
REO was my favorite band for MANY years….also the first live show I ever saw! Awesome!
This group is under appreciated in terms of guitar licks and play. They have some of the best in all rock. 1.o0
This was big Salvo! On the radio in the eighties constantly.
AWESOME 👏 love REO. Can’t wait to see them again live. AMAZING still
Kansas is another great band from the 70s. 'Carry On Wayward Son', 'Point of No Return', and 'Dust in the Wind'.
HERE'S MORE HITS SALVO! 😊 CAN'T FIGHT THIS FEELING, TIME FOR ME TO FLY, TAKE IT ON THE RUN 😊 STYX AND R.E.O. TOURED ALOTTTT TOGETHER IN THE 70'S AND 80'S SO, GREAT CLASSIC ROCK BAND AS WAS STYX.
This album and song is what put them on the map.
Ive saw em 5 times back in the day. They were my very first concert. They are incredible live! They usually close the show with this song. You should check out some of the live stuff
One of the few albums I bought as an LP, 8-track, cassette, CD and have on phone now as mp3. 🔥
Like someone else said, check out 157 Riverside Avenue, but try the live album version. The interaction between Kevin singing and Gary on guitar is so fun. Saw them 4 times in the 70's and early 80's here in the midwest, including a new year's eve concert at the barn in Des Moines. What a party!
My x wife and I saw them 4 times and before i was married I seen them once . Fine fine music
Saw them back in the 90's at the sangamon co fair in Illinois. I think the ticket was $4.00.
Great reaction, REO had several classic rock hits constantly on the radio stations in the 70s.
This is my happy song. Going through something-turn some pages, put in your earbuds & blast Roll With the Changes! Problems be gone!
The live version of this song is AWESOME!!! Gary Richrath is phenomenal in the live version!
One of my all time faves! Love all things REO. :) Please review Take it on the Run.
One of the best high energy songs in rock history as far as I'm concerned.
ty dude // rock on
Tremendously underrated song
Brings back fond memories of a much simpler time
BANGERRRRRR, FYRRRRRR!!!! 😊
They still do concerts and his voice is still strong.
Rip great Gary, you are a guitar God, so much emotion in your playing! You are missed!!!
You are now drowning in the great Classic Rock catalogue. It is almost endless. I envy you your journey! It is the greatest music the human race has composed. Enjoy! 🎙👌😉💖
You MUST check out their live performance of this song at Live Aid in 1985. Watch The Beach Boys and others help with the chorus. So cool.
this hear is another wonderful band with maney of great songs
At the time, there was so much good music coming out that REO was just in the mix. Excellent in its own right.
This song describes my life philosophy. Life gets a bit easier when you learn to "Roll With the Changes." This is a great Rock group. Love them! They've got so many great songs. Go down the rabbit hole. You won't regret it.
Another side of REO is In My Dreams. Really great song.
My son and I are going to the REO concert in Michigan in March 2023!!
Stone Cold classic. That organ solo is fire 🔥🔥
REO are phenomenal. Definitely a rabbit hole you should explore.
Love love love REO . their drummer Brian Hitt is from my hometown!! Went to school with this great guy!!
Been listening to these guys' for about 50 years. I may get tired of them someday but I really doubt it. Riding the Storm Out and keep on Lovin' You would be my votes for the next listens.
I don't know that I trust searching RUclips that way because having been around as a kid when this music was popular and having seen them in concert, I can tell you that this song and others were on the radio all the time. This was an immensely popular song. And not only that, the live version is iconic as well, Gary Richrath on guitar is a real treat, rest in peace buddy.
I have found that it gets even more unreliable to older the music gets, because it doesn't reflect how popular was because RUclips wasn't even around back then. And there could be a video that's been up for a long time that has a lot more views, and then there might be another one that has been posted of something old more recently and so it doesn't have his much circulation yet, and so forth. And then again there's the live version and so forth. The song was extremely popular.
This is really TOP SHELF ROCK!!!!!!!!!!! You are gonna love it .
Home town boys. First concert. The live version of this song with the acoustic intro changed my life.
It never gets old watching you discover our music from our time, real music! Real voices and instruments!
Riding the storm out live is a must
Try any live version of 157 Riverside Avenue with Gary on guitar and Kevin on vocals, much fun
Definitely my fave REO song--just epic!
I saw REO together with Chicago. They did this song in the encore with both bands. Incredible.
It Is Huge Its REO Thr Great Music We Had Growing Up Wow .Just saw the band again last Year Red Rock Cadino Out Door Concert Las Vegas .
I saw them at the Houston livestock show and rodeo in 2014 and they were just as great then as in their original recording, if not better. Was an amazing concert. Great reaction, glad you discovered this gem. " Can't fight this feeling, Take it on the run, Keep on loving you, Time for me to fly, I don't wanna know".. the list goes on. You can't go wrong.
I can't speak for the nation but dad bought this album when it released and I've been jammin REO since. This and a few other songs were in heavy rotation on the rock stations in Los Angeles - KLOS and KMET. Salvo - Riding the storm out is a jam (live is great too)
My favorite song from when i was a kid my parents would always play their music
A lot of their songs are awesome!!
REO and Boston is all I need!
This is the great Rock version of REO. The 80's became balladeers and took the world by storm
Yes, so many great bands!
From he site Songfacts®:
REO Speedwagon's 1971 debut album was with their original lead singer, Terry Luttrell. Kevin Cronin took over that role for their next effort, R.E.O./T.W.O. (1972), but it was rough sledding, and while they were making their third album, Ridin' the Storm Out (1973), he left over conflict with guitarist Gary Richrath and other creative tensions. Cronin returned to the band in 1976, which meant moving from Chicago to Los Angeles, where they had relocated. On that trip, he had lots of time to think about all the changes in his life, and how he was (quite literally) rolling with them.
The song hit him in a flash: he started writing the lyrics on a brown paper bag in his Ford Pinto while he was driving. Released as the first single from their 1978 album You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can't Tuna Fish, the song became their biggest hit to that point, reaching #58.
The band made a music video for this song in 1978, three years before MTV went on the air. Directed by Arnold Levine, the black-and-white footage was shot at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri at their show on May 13, 1978. When MTV launched in 1981, they played the video, as REO Speedwagon were huge at the time, with a string of hits from their Hi Infidelity album.
REO wouldn't make it on my list of 25 favorite bands, not even close, but this song would most likely make my top 50 tunes, which is actually saying a LOT! Perfect Graduation Song. Total Banger.
And that's how it's done!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My 3rd fave from R.E.O.
First is Back On The Road
2nd is Time For Me To Fly
4th is Keep Pushin' On
One of the most underrated guitarist ever! Gary richrath.......R.I.P.🙏 check out their song " take it on the run" ✌️
Ah, the days of festival seating and trees being freely floated to you, pass it on down cause another one is headed your way. Now dim those damn lights and let’s rock this damn stadium rocking. Yes I was there back in the day for the greatest tours, Boston, REO, RUSH, BoC, Journey, The Baby’s, AC/DC (the Bon Scott ones), Van Halen, Judas Priest, Moody Blues, Chicago, The Red Rocker, Fogat, Def Leppard, The Pretenders and so many others. It was a very different time and experience sadly lost.
This song is so, so good. Doesn’t get enough recognition.
AAAAAAAAALLRIIIIIGHTY THEN... Way back in 1980 I knew a guy in the military who hung out with these guys. Dude must be in the top 10 of singers. Also a show ending song I'd imagine.
Rest in Peace Gary Richrath, guitarist extrodinaire. Gary died a few years ago after he had ravaged his body with alcohol for decades. He did not even look like himself anymore in the end. Reo Speedwagon was a major act in rock during their heyday especially the late 70s and 80s.
Seeing them live in just a few short weeks. Been a fan since the late 70's . Also love Time For Me To Fly!
This being their best song, REO gained extreme popularity later after the High In Fidelity album which attracted the female audience.
"Anthem" is right !! and it was massive and in my opinion still and always be MASSIVE !!
Saw them live in 1978, they smoked the house. This song always got the blood pumping!
