Tom Scholtz was very proud of the fact that no synthesizers were used in any of his music. All sounds and effects were created from instruments, some of which he invented!
I have no problem with synthesizers. But at the same time, I fully appreciate the level of talent required to make those guitars produce the amazing array of sound they did.
Tom went to MIT
Yes, the "Rockman"
@boosuedon what specific musical instruments did Tom invent?
The "Rockman" Guitar synthesizer.
Fall of '76. Sitting in a booth in The Wilkin Bar in Breckenridge, MN. I was 18. The bar had a fantastic sound system, with tapes as music source, since the place was too small to have live bands. This song came on the system, and after listening until about 45 seconds into the Long Time part, I scrambled out of the booth and across to the bar to demand of the bartender; "Who the hell is this?!" He handed me the empty tape box to read, and my 5+ decades long love affair with this Boston album began.
what an awesome story
I used to go to a beer bar with dancers they had a great sound system and the best girls. They often played entire albums.
Love it! Came out my first year in high school and bought the album immediately.
Love it. I wish I had that experience. My dad is almost exactly your age and I grew up listening to Boston, but I can’t imagine what it must have been like to get smacked in the face with this album when it first came out.
Grew up in Boston .. saw them around 1978 after the debut album as a 13 year old
This is quite possibly, and arguably THE best debut album ever! Claimed as such, and deservedly so!
If I were you, I would react to EVERY song on this album, because every one is a gem on their own. My personal favorites are, Peace Of Mind, and Hitch A Ride, which has a guitar solo that rivals the best...
I probably will!
Yes, absolutely yes!
@@deadchannel3274 I second the motion that SalvoG should listen to the first!
Yes, you absolutely have to do “Hitch A Ride”. The closing third of the song has in my opinion the all time greatest guitar work ever. It cannot be classified as a solo as in it really is a dueling duet that is so sublime mere words cannot do it justice.
This and Van Halen are on my ultra short list of best debut rock albums of all time!
Being from Boston, where this band is from, this album was played constantly in my home town. Sholtz is a genius, and the engineer recorded this album in his basement, adding drums and vocals from his band mates. Yes, we were very proud of this band!
I currently live right near this house, my dog and I walk by it all the time!
I served at Ft Devens and saw Boston, would kill for a Grinder! :-)
@@kevincarson7524 cool!
@@marke8323 in Boston proper, they call a grinder or a sub sandwich a spucky. That's real old school there. My uncle's would say to me back in the sixties when I was growing up, "Come on, I'll buy you a spucky" hahaha, cracks me up ever time!
Hey guys, longtime resident of Boston's Roslindale neighborhood here!
Well young man welcome to the world of "Mind Blown". This how us older folks felt when this song came out. And we still feel this way today.
It still gives me a kick realizing that ALL of the vocals are Brad Delp, not just the lead. So much talent on this album!
Brad Delp might be the greatest rock singer ever IMO
RIP Brad. He was 1 of a kind
Seriously?! I did not know that 😮
Maybe the greatest debut album ever.
Every song on Boston's debut album is still played in heavy rotation on Classic Rock FM radio stations to this very day. There is not one clunker on the album.
I am EXCITED
There's nothing even remotely close to a clunker on the album. The whole thing is a sonic adventure that is pretty much unrivaled. There's nothing else like it.
When he says EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM, he means EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM. Have we done HITCH A RIDE yet?!?!?!?
Yes, definitely no clunkers on this album. One of the handful in the history of albums you can play from beginning to end with no skips. Every one is a gem, and probably the best debut classic rock album ever.
Another couple albums that (in my opinion) hold the "no clunker" status are REO Speedwagon's High Infidelity, and Journey's Escape. Ahhh the good ole days. We desperately need talent again.
@@piggsinablankie well I don't know about no skips only because the last song (let me take you home tonight) doesn't really fit with the rest of the project it made no sense to close it out with that song
This album was a game changer for my generation. I spent hours, with headphones on, listening to the vinyl album until I had every note, every drum roll, every single sound....memorized and imprinted on my brain. I am so glad you loved it. Timeless.
Lol, I can still air-drum this song. A friend of mine in high school made a cassette of the album with a different song order. People knew the album so well that it freaked them out in a different order.
Definitely. I can remember the first time hearing it. Blown away.
You can throw a dart at this album and never hit a bad song. Top notch front to back, top to bottom, one of the best selling debut albums of all time!
Boston is what i think of when someone says 'Classic Rock' band. They are the definition of 'classic rock' to me
Everything on the debut album is must listen. But I suggest “HITCH A RIDE” next. The cleanest power soak 🎸 solo you’ll ever hear
🔥 🙏
The best and my favorite!!
Has he done HITCH A RIDE yet? WHEN? WHEN?!!!
@@shack8110 tomorrow :)
One of the best solos out there for sure
Yes. "Hitch a Ride" will do it for you.
I don't care what the critics say, this is Boston's greatest song hands down to me. Always will be. It's got a very happy carefree feel to the song and lyrics and that intro will never be topped IMO.
dont look back>
I agree. It moves me more than any other.
To me it's, peace of mind.
I am 63, so this is "my" music, and I remember back whenever this song came on, for some weird reason I had to light up a smoke. Didn't matter what I was doing, I had to light up!! I should be dead now from all the smoking I did to this song. Anyways, I am always glad to see you younger ones enjoying the heck out of "our" music. Keep on rockin'!! :) Blessings!!
I remember being in the garage working on my car. I had this album blasting (my old man wasn’t home of course), when my mom came through the garage for something. She stopped dead in her tracks and stated “this music’s beautiful!
First and only time a parent ever said that about music I was listening to.😀😎🤘🏻
I realized the album is guitars…took me a while lol
Don't forget to subscribe if you enjoyed the reaction :)
And the spaceships on the cover are upside down guitars.
😳 OMG I never knew!!!!
@@Spinspiel Wow. Had the album for decades and never noticed!!
each 'guitar' is a City escaping the destruction of earth, in the background is NYC and Philly, as printed on each guitar, quite the unique art
I think earth blows up about 3:11 into this video. Yes, each major city was starting a journey as the earth was destroyed behind them. I think I got this about the age of 10 or 11, from my older brothers and always imagined the story in the art.
When I first heard this song on the mighty met 94.7 KMET (Los Angeles) in 1976 I was a junior in HS. I hopped on my trusty 10 seed bike & pedaled my ass 5 miles to my favorite record store & gladly forked out my cash to buy this album. I nearly flew that bike home (picture the kid Elliott pedaling ET into the sky even though that didn't come out till another 5 years later). I pedaled for all I was worth & arrived home a sweaty mess. I ran into the house to my room & shut the door. Tore that plastic seal off the album cover & gently slid that vinyl disk out from the jacket. Put it on the turntable & turned the volume way way up. I was in 7th Heaven; I played the crap outta that record for many years. It has all kinds of great songs & the recording quality is way beyond any other album by any groups I had (which were many). Great memories of back in the days of my youth. Tom Scholz was a master craftsman in the art of recording music & has invented so many awesome tools for musicians to make sound. He is a true innovator & super genius !
ꓕƎWꓘ
awesome,..thats so descriptive and I didn't have a bike but when I got that new album I just sprinted him
"Little bit of heaven, 94.7 KMET.....Tweedle Dee.."
Totally with ya. I was 16 when I heard it the first time. Blew me away with a little help from MJ
There is no denying the brilliance of Boston's first album. It broke new ground and along with Aerosmith, the Cars and the J. Geils Band cemented the city of Boston's place as a Rock Mecca. In my opinion, though, Boston turned out to be a one trick pony as their subsequent releases largely covered the same territory. Tough to find a better debut album though.
Don't Look Back (the second album) had some good tracks like Feeling Satisfied and A Man I'll Never Be that were not rehashes of the first album at all. I think it gets underestimated.
I mean, the first album *IS* better. Better than most. Still, the second one gets hidden in its shadow unjustly, I think.
@@richardsteiner8992 It was def hard to follow, so kudos for them trying, lol! The pressure was immense, I'm sure. I can't comment on the 2nd since i only heard what the radio played. And of course "Amanda" from the 3rd, but yeah, the debut is, well, a small miracle of near-perfection.
Don't Look Back, their second album was as good so ummm, WTF?
The Foreplay segment of those songs is one of the most entertaining and explosive instrumentals ever. It's so compelling the way it escalates into a wild frenzy of guitar and organs.
Then of course Longtime follows up very nicely. No wonder their debut was so successful.
Boston is a great American rock band who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great songs such as "Peace Of Mind", "Rock & Roll Band", "Smokin'", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Feelin' Satisfied", "We're Ready", "Amanda", "Hitch A Ride", "Hollyann", "Cool The Engines" etc.
"A Man I'll Never Be" never got the exposure it deserved. It is a really great song.
This album had a huge impact when it was released. Every song in this album was on the radio. There’s a lot of clarity and depth in the production. It’s like a DIY lesson from Tom Scholz.
To be truly appreciated, you need to be driving in your car on a freeway and listening to "Foreplay/Long Time" as loud as your ears can stand it. But just a word of caution: it's one of those songs where you'll be driving 65mph at the beginning of the song but by the end of the song you look at the speedometer and realize you are now driving 102mph!
Tom Shultz was a MIT graduate and a genius when it came to creating his own synthesizers and petals. He recorded these albums in his basement with his own designed studio. Brad Delp did the lead vocals and all the back up voices on studio albums.
Boston _owned_ northern New England radio in the 70s for good reasons and I'm glad I saw them a couple times. "Hitch a Ride" is a gem from their debut, and "A Man I'll Never Be" from their 2nd album set the bar for power ballads. Keep spinning these!
Brad Delp, may he Rest In Peace, is my all time favorite male vocalist. Highly underrated, and sorely missed. Great album from a great band.
Fantastic! Did you notice the spaceships on the cover are actually guitars !!
It is incredibly strange to see someone as well versed on some classic rock, like Rush, Zeppelin, etc to be listening to this for the first time. I get it and I get why, but it's just weird. It's like, how can you possibly know Xanadu by Rush and not Foreplay / Long Time by Boston?? It's inconceivable! Actually it makes perfect sense it just feels impossible. LOL
LOL, absolutely! I just made a similar comment above. Old Dudes like me (57) couldn't NOT hear these bands/songs, if only bc someone (like myself, lol) would bring a boombox to school or you'd hear it from parked cars on Saturday nights when peeps would just be "hangin' ." or at friends' houses. Still happens, sure, but music's also more private, now. Ear buds. RUclips. No MTV, lol!
The "synthsizer" work was all done on the organ and clavinet, with help from the "top secret space pedal effect". So awesome. thanks for your reaction! Loved it.
I’m from the south and this album helped me convert a bunch of my country music cousins and friends to come to the rock and roll side
One of the greatest Debut Albums of all time! My favourite will always be Led Zeppelin 1, but Boston ranks up there in my top 5 all time
Crunchy guitars: Check; Tight bass and drums: Check; Soaring vocals: Check. Lets goooooooooo!
I remember when this album came out. I went to my local record store in town after school and they had completely sold out on release day. I had to make a 25-mile round trip to get a copy. Still in my top 3 of all time. An absolute masterpiece.
I'm really enjoying your reactions, and this was no exception. I remember when Boston hit the radio, we all ran out and bought the album as soon as we could. Back then we would carry albums to whomever's house we were congregating at, and Boston was ALWAYS in the mix. Then we had to wait years for the second album to drop; it was almost excruciating lol. I think you should just listen to this entire album thru. Or... make "Hitch a Ride" your next reaction. Either way, thanks for this one!
Thank you so much. I will probably listen to this entire album
The 2nd Album was 2 years later, but from 2nd to 3rd was 8 years.
They were incredible, I always felt they an Styx were very similar an they had such an incredible blend of vocal harmonies an progressive rock!!
Yup, shout out to Styx! Sorta 2nd Tier in a way, but some really really great tunes!
I loved this whole album when it came out! We were all amazed at this!
We played it over and over.. couldn’t get enough ❤️
So proud of our boys from Boston.. they were awesome!! Saw them in concert they were backing up Blue Oyster Cult, most were there to see Boston!! Feel so privileged to have seen them live❤️ I still see Barry Goudreau one the guitarists around locally! RIP Brad and Sib…
This was my first album I bought as a teenager and to this day many years ago I told my wife and kids I wanted this song played at my funeral. The words and music are so deep and meaningful to what I would have to say to my friends and family💕
It will be played at my funeral as well!😎🤘🎸
Sal, I’ve been with you for a long time, and I would say that that the reason at least I did not suggest this is that you are doing an amazing job delving into the top tier classic bands of rock history abd getting such a good foundation. Having said that, that Boston debut album is considered in the top 5 debut rock albums of all time and many consider it the best. I would strongly urge you to listen to each track on that record. Boston made a huge splash with album….coming out right around the same time as we were all being introduced to Heart, the revamped Fleetwood Mac Bad Company and Foreigner (another band you should hit)
We didn’t want to overwhelm you with bands at the beginning. There are dozens of top artists and you have the time to enjoy all of them. Do you want to jump around? We can supply you with suggestions for that. Let us know
It’s so fun watching people get sucked into the Boston vortex for the first time. I agree on the linear listening recommendation.
Agree with the suggestions. I saw Bsd Company and Foreigner!! They were amazing live!! Foreigner especially!!
@@greenworm7915 “Foreigner” is currently on tour, but I think with only one original member.
@@helenespaulding7562 I don’t think I want to spoil my memory of the original Foreigner and the amazing Lou Gramm!! I don’t even watch the videos with his replacement. I tried….
I'm amazed at people's reaction to these 70s music. This a part of how great the 70s were
Our daughter used to listen to our music we listened to back in the 70's. She always said we had the best music ever. R.I.P. Amanda, you'll always be our baby girl.
Now imagine a 16 year old hearing this for the first time ever back in 1976. Mind blowing soundscapes. Yeah. Totally far out! as we used to stay in those days. This whole album was what you had playing when you cruised the town on Friday nights and had blowing your mind in your bedroom with the headphones on and at the parties. Masterpiece is right on.
What a great reaction! I am 62 years old. I still remember when my buddies and I first heard this song (we all played together in a band). We all heard it separately but we all had the same reaction. WOW, WOW, WOW. You had the same reaction. Kinda cool to see somebody who has the same reaction we had, only decades later. Go listen to "Hitch A Ride" from the same album. My all-time favorite guitar solo (and I am a guitarist). Just listen to how melodic it is. Well worth seeing your reaction!
Okay so we all know that Brad Delp has the most amazing vocals and does all of his own harmonies. But Tom Scholz not only has a bachelor's and master's degree in mechanical engineering but he is also the main song writer and guitarist for the band. He also plays bass keyboards and drums. He's the founder of the band, he's played on every Boston release and is the only remaining member. Wow!
I don't know why, but when young people like you listen to, appreciate, and love the music of my own youth I cry uncontrollably. I think I'm just jealous of what it feels like to experience this magic for the first time. I was lucky enough to see Boston live three times in my life and each experience was transcendental! Enjoy, my good [young] man!
I love reading comments like this. This is what it’s all about! Enjoying music and connecting with others.
Ahhh memories. 72 Dodge Charger, Kraco 8 track, Jensen 6x9’s and crankin it up. Suggest reviewing whole debut album.
Brad Delp what a voice! This whole album is amazing and check out from the second album Party and you have to do Cool the Engines from Third Stage. Another incredible band from Boston check out is the Car’s. Boston’s debut album is one of the greatest debut albums of all time and The Car’s i debut is on that list.
None better for sure! Every song got airtime.
It brings me so much joy seeing someone not familiar with this track hearing it for the first time and getting to live through you vicariously because this was me when I heard it the first time over 30 years ago as a kid.
Summer camp 77, this was the only album we had in our cabin. Played on one of those grandma furniture turntable/ radio combo consoles that slid open
That’s pretty awesome good memories
This was another "must have" album from 1976.
I had my copy on vinyl, 8-track and cassette back then. I even owned a half speed master album as well.
You oughta check out a live version of this from more recently. There are a few from the late '90s and early 2000's on RUclips.
There's also one from the late seventies at Giants stadium in New Jersey.
Best rock album of the 70s
Quite possibly the best rock and roll album ever recorded. Every song got steady radio play back in the day and every song is fantastic.
Rush is and will always be my fave band. Huge Zep fan, all that, and I 100% agree with you.
This music just grabs you and immerses you in sonic bliss - one of the finest rock albums of all time.
Look closely at the space ships. This whole album is outstanding.
I remember noticing they were guitars many many years ago! Good on you for catching it as well!
@@louislane1968 It’s easy to miss
Drove my parents crazy when I was a teenager learning to play the first side of this album. The first songs that I learned all the way through on guitar. Sounded even better after I got Tom Scholtz's Rockman X-100.
I love your reaction and face expressions 😂boston was and always will be in the top 5 in my book brads vocals were phenomenal and the band perfection
44 years + ago. My generation says: "You're welcome!" We knew how to do it.
Ppl overlook the production/engineering sound of this album which still holds up today...was so revolutionary and different at the time of recording.
@correctlyrics what specifically about the way this record was recorded was so different and revolutionary? How well versed are you in the professional studio analog recording technology and processes of the 70's and 80's?
You absolutely have to do “Hitch A Ride” off the same album. The closing third of the song has in my opinion the all time greatest guitar work ever. It cannot be classified as a solo as in it really is a dueling duet that is so sublime mere words cannot do it justice.
@glenallencox966 How would you compare Hitch a Ride to the guitar work by Larry Carlton on Steely Dan's kid Charlemagne and Take Me Alive?
@@neechee5150 an excellent point, it is all subjective and clearly a matter of preference. I am also quite certain I was embellishing my point based on just such personal preference.
Bought the album after hearing 'More Than a Feeling' and couldn't believe what I was hearing when I sat down and listened to it for the first time. A masterpiece.
This song is 97.2% of the reason us old guys yell "THAT ISN'T MUSIC!!!" these days.
The song was almost haunting and I don't remember the original giving me that, like that chill down to my bones.
She really just has such a unique sound that I really felt like I wasn't really ready for her. I am sure during the song some of you probably noticed that my mouth was hanging open and I had to remind myself to actually close my mouth so I don't look like a big dummy.
I am not really sure why shes not better known here in the US, because honestly, before people were telling me in the comments to listen to her, I had never even heard of her. But somethings telling me that's probably not going to be the case for too much longer because she has a lot of talent and she is super unique. I feel like that's going to take her really far. Thank you guys for recommending this. She was awesome.

As many people as possible should know about Diana.
Do yourself a favour and listen to Hitch a ride next….
I remember seeing them in concert, supporting this album. Tom Scholz introduced a song, saying it was from their new album. We had to wait for a year before the new album was released.
Boston never reached the heights they attained with their first album. It was a true Rock and Roll masterpiece!
Definitely in contention for greatest debut album of all time. This album will always be linked to "Foreigner" debut in my mind because they were both released in my freshman year HS and we played both albums relentlessly.
Released in August 1976, this was the biggest selling debut album, 17 million sold, second only to Guns and Roses debut 18 million sold, Tom Scholz was a MIT grad and he did most of this in his basement and recruited Brad Delp when he realized he needed a singer, the rest f the band was put together so he could go on the road, they never could top it but the second album wasn't bad either...the entire album rocks and is a masterpiece of engineering and they were awesome live too...everyone owned this record...everyone along with Fleetwood Mac Rumors and Frampton Comes Alive, it was a glorious time to be alive, I was 18 when this came out, the 70's were incredible. On a sad note, lead singer Brad Delp passed away in 2007 and drummer Sib Hashian passed away in 2017, at the 1977 Grammy Awards they lost out to the Starlight Vocal Band as best new artist which is mind numbing to say the least, sadly they are not in the rock and roll hall of fame, most likely due to the fact that the won a lawsuit against CBS records.
I was 16 in 76, saw them in Madison Square Garden in 77. Still have the play book from that concert. This whole album in near PERFECTION!!!
imagine me listening to this as a 16 year old.... I was blown away. Still one of my favorite song to this day. Saw them live in 1979. Great memories. They totally pulled it off live.

Hi SalvoG, great seeing your reaction and appreciation of a great song, in an album filled with GREAT songs, they don't make them like that before. I was in high school when this came out, blew my mind, one of the best albums ever produced.
Yes I was 12 years old when this album came out, rocked my world in '76
The greatest "guitar rock" album ever...there is nothing else close.
When this was released, we were all partying like mad dogs and being in "The Zone" and hearing Foreplay for the first time just blew our doors off. LOVE your reaction because it's genuine.
I was blessed to grow up with all this wonderful music. You have a long way to go to even see the tip of the iceberg. There are only so many notes to be played so once in awhile something tickles your memory of another group but most were all new music. They all wanted to be known for their own style. Quit comparing...we never did. We just accepted what was presented and went with it. But by the second chord we knew who it was and what it was. We lived by music back then. It was all radio so we couldn't see them unless we went to a concert.....then The Midnight Special came along and we could see the bands. Then MTV came out and we loved it. But not being able to see the bands we were relegated to just listening. You all get to see and hear and I think that muddies the water for you. Just listen. Don't compare. Each song had a message and that's all they were after....getting the message across. Whether it was words, a story, to show off their talent or market a new sound. Just listen and enjoy.
When I was listening to Fore Play Longtime I just imagined the most epic space battle possible with Fore Play being the destruction of a planet and Longtime being the response and battle and eventual destruction of the enemy.
Boston's debut album Tom Schultz played all instruments and effects and sang background vocals. Brad Delp sang all lead vocals and did background vocals and played some acoustic guitar. Tom engineered produced and wrote plus arranged all the songs. Tom designed and built all of the spacey effects pedals as well. No digital equipment or synthesizers were used in the making of this album. It was all done in Tom's home studio in his basement.
@dwanegibbons9315 where does all of this Boston/Scholz urban legend BS come from? First off Tom did NOT play all of the instrument tracks on this record. Tom did not play a single drum track on this record and the record is much better for that fact. Then lets take Foreplay and Long Time just for an example. Barry is playing all electric rhythm guitars on Foreplay and Long Time and Barry plays the amazing lead guitar solos on Long Time as well. Then their is the fact that Fran is playing bass on Foreplay because he had the chops to pull it of and to it better than Tom. Also Tom does not sing a single back up vocal on this record.
Tom did NOT write all of the songs on this record. Brad co-wrote Smokin' and Brad wrote Let me Take You Home. It is worth noting that after all of the litigation that took place Tom finally gave Brad and Jim Masdea credit for all of the arrangement work that they did on this songs on this record. Albeit decades after the fact, Tom finally had to tell the truth and give credit where credit was due.
Lastly this record was NOT all recorded by Tom in his basement studio. It is a well documented fact that ALL of Brads vocals were recorded by producer John Boylan at Capital Studios Studio C and that the entire song Let Me Take You Home was recorded by Boylan at The Record Plant LA and all of the tracks for that song were played by the band as pictured on the back of the record.
I saw Barry Goudreau, original member of Boston, over the summer. They did Foreplay/Long Time and it sounded amazing live. What impressed me the most at the was the amount of the younger generation that were singing along.
If you have heard Barry play the lead guitar solo to Long Time, it becomes very clear that Barry played that solo on the record not Tom
Every rock fan gets completely gob-smacked listening to this for their first time. Glad you got the chance to enjoy this experience. Great reaction, Man!
I heard the perfect description of Boston as bright, clean, and heavy
I tend to like bands that have some classical / medieval influence, and I hear that in Foreplay. And the beginning of Long Time is always so great. This is epic rock. Brad Delp, the singer, is awesome. The guitar is purely filthy.
I remember a few years ago they were touring and I was working as a private chef in the event venue they were at, and during sound check, I walked by the backstage and Tom Scholz came walking towards me as I was passing and my jaw just dropped. I don’t generally get starstruck, but I’ve always been such a big fan of how well he plays. Even with the replacement singer, they still sound absolutely incredible live. ❤
This song was a staple at all skating rinks around the Country when it was on the radio. Sometimes they'd play it more than once because we kept bugging them to play it again lol. Great, great memories made to this song! Glad to see it give another generation pleasure too!
It was I believe November 1976, a buddy and myself walked into a record store in Portland, Oregon to buy the new Kansas Leftoverture album. We were looking at albums and about the same time said who is that band playing? thru-out the store and asked an employee who said it’s a new band called Boston and their great! The song playing was More Then a Feeling. We left that day with the new Kansas album and the new Boston’s album, both albums to this day I play a lot. The best daily double album purchase ever. 🏆⭐️🔥 Loved your reaction.
This album was mind boggling, in 76. It's aging pretty well, too.
I will always remember this song ridding around in my brother's 1967 Buick skylark with the 8 - track of this album playing over and over again and again 😢 miss you john boy 🙏💕
This song brings me back to 76/77 riding along Lake Pontchartrain Lakefront area during the summer and hearing Boston blaring from the state of the art car stereos of the time!
Great times!
In ‘76 I had Kansas’s Leftoverture album and talked a friend a couple doors up in our apt complex into trading albums (temporarily ☹️) because this LP rocked my world. Didn’t get to a big concert until ‘78 when these guys toured in support of their second album. Fantastic show. And yes, that is the full album cover art.
RIP Brad and Sib, you were unforgettable!
I saw them in 78. My first concert! St. Johns Arena, Columbus, Ohio
There's some joke about bands named after places, but I won't get into that. I will say this. . . A few days ago I got my hands on a CD of Leftoverture and gave it a fresh listen on my hi-fi, and I rediscovered how powerful it is. If there's an album from that era that could hold its own against Boston's debut, it's probably Leftoverture.
Welcome to the 70's. When musicians made music, NOT computers.
A symphony!!!!! ❤❤❤❤ will always be a favorite from my teen years; 1976.
Dude, your reaction is PRICELESS!
not only the best Boston song but the best Song.
Absolute next level guitar work.
I was in high school when this band came on the scene. We’d never heard anything like it. They’re fantastic! I’m so glad you like them!
“Foreplay/Long Time” is one of the best rock songs of all time, IMHO. I never get tired of hearing it. “Peace of Mind” next, bro. Great song and equally great lyrics. As relevant today as it was 46 years ago. All of these were on their DEBUT album. That, too, is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The cover art is perfect, too. Boston came out of nowhere and rocked the planet in 1976, as well as their follow-up, “Don’t Look Back,” in 1978.
I love how much you appreciate this unbelievably great Boston song. The creator Tom was an MIT Genius! I would drive around town with my brother in the 70s listening to this fantastic Boston album! Great times in So. California!
FOREPLAY my favorite Boston song, then and now.
I still love seeing all the reactions to one of the most important debut albums from my generation, or any generation. You truly are having a good time listening to our golden days of rock. Keep up the good work, and keep loving the music.
The album is 3 guys, a drummer, brad delp doing all the vocals, and Tom doing everything else, with early 70s technology, and inventing the stuff he needed as he needed it
I first heard Boston on a classic radio show called "king Bisquick Flour Hour" on a Sunday night in 1974. They were sampling a song called "more than a feeling". as a teenager back then I fell in love Immediately!!!.
I seen them live in their original tour in Madison Square Garden tour in NYC of 1976. I still have the official concert program from that night!!!
ONE OF MY TREASURES.
however I am willing to part with it for one million dollars!
Lol
NOTHING LESS!
A truly perfect album!
This has always been my fave Boston song. Listen to his organ playing. Amazing.
