This song is so under appreciated; it is such a banger. The wailing guitars and screaming organ are epic; I think it is their best song. Ridin’ the Storm Out is really good, too.

R-E-O speedwagon was a pickup truck manufactured in the 20’s and 30”s. It’s founder was Ransom E. Olds you might have heard of the automobile company Oldsmobile which was part of General Motors until 2004 when it was dissolved.

“commercial rock” or whatever you like. These guys could put on

The singing, the lyrics, the instruments, especially the smoking hot guitar and organ, just lift you up off the ground and take you to another place! Musical ecstasy! Glad to see you two young guys discovering the incredibly great rock and roll we grew up with in the 60s, 70s and 80s. What a time to be a kid, teenager and young adult! R.E.O Speedwagon has been around since 1969 in Champagne Illinois named for the founder of the Oldsmobile motor company Ransom Eli Olds, The Speedwagon was an early 1900's truck which was the first automobile that was fast and powerful and was often used as a fire truck to carry tanks of water to fires. They are still rocking arenas all over the world today 50 plus years later with over 20 top 40 hits and 2 number one songs. Their 1981 album Hi Infidelity was the number one album of 1981 with 5 top 40 hits. Keep On Loving You was their first number one and many consider the birth of the power ballad and Take It On The Run was a top 5 hit. Songs from the 70's decade like this song and Time For Me To Fly ( I consider the greatest breakup song of all time). Also check out Keep Pushin, Riding The Storm Out ( live version). Golden Country from their second album in 1972 as well as mid 80's songs like Can't Fight This Feeling ( their biggest hit) Keep The Fire Burning and so many more. Too long of a list for this page.

This was one of my favorite songs for a minute. I love the change over from Neil on the piano/keyboard to Gary(RIP) guitar.
Too bad the "changes" they were talking about was their change in their overall product with "Hi Infidelity" It got them their well deserved millions but was a drastic change to the dark side of HI. I bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it twice and sent it to my 12 year old sister and said you're gonna love this. She didn't. She couldn't even believe it was REO.
    THIS was the good stuff.
I saw them 4 times, once at the Stockton Asparagus Festival shortly after Gary left the band and they were working a new guitarist. It was before Dave
Amato, and I was sitting on the grass right in front of the stage (close enough to scare the band) and he was playing one thing but the sound was a tape of Gary. I looked at Kevin and he knew what I was thinking and just kind of smiled and gave me a "what else can we do now?" look. But it was fun anyway. Something to pass along so that was cool.
FWIW They're currently on tour with STYX and Loverboy.🎸🎸🎸

Ok, I’m going to keep saying it. JUDAS PREIST: Riding On The Wind! studio version please, it’s the cleanest. It’s badass guys. Very good, very high energy Classic Hard Rock song. One of their very best. I fucking guarantee it. It slams and is a great example of the band at the peak of their power and popularity. I don’t recommend bad songs ever. I only pick high quality, aggressive, great songs. That’s how I originally listened to them. Which song on the record hits hardest? That’s what I went for!
The straight for your throat songs. The kind that gets you pumped up and bouncing in your chair George. That’s what THIS IS. I know this stuff, I really do. I go back to the very beginning with all these bands. I started seeing them from their first tours on up. That’s how I’ve seen so many concerts. I went every tour! Ha Ha! It was nuts!
When you finally get tired of me asking for it and decide to shut me up, just do me one favor. Do it loud the way it’s supposed to be. Be ready, it starts in forth gear. You will hear why Rob Halford was considered THE BEST Metal singer of all time. Like I said, this is at their peak with a full power song. No joke, just high energy.
    Halford BLASTS on this song.

I've seen R.E.O. Speedwagon in concert twice -- the summer of 1981 when I was 17 and in 2010 on a double bill with Pat Benatar -- and lead singer Kevin Cronin and the band sound just as good live as in the studio! You might also enjoy "Time for Me to Fly," "Keep On Loving You" (No. 1 in U.S.) and "Can't Fight This Feeling" (No. 1). Great memories! ... By the way, the band is named after an old-time delivery truck manufactured from 1915 to 1953 by the R.E.O. (Ransom Eli Olds) Motor Car Company, the same man who later founded the Oldsmobile brand car company.

REO is a pretty big band with numerous hits, like this great song and their #1 hit "Ridin' the Storm Out (Live)" a great song they recorded with their previous lead singer on an album; and then, when Kevin Cronin joined, they put out a live version and it blew up huge. You should definitely react to the live version, which is more intense than the album version, even though my favorite is still on the album.

Ok guys, this is another one we grew up with that was always on the radio. Back when we were teenagers in middle and high school. I mean the Rock station in my city played this every other day it seemed like. I estimate that there were about 50 or so hit Rocks songs that got played to death over and over in high radio rotation. This was definitely going to come on the radio. Just turn it on and wait. It will get played. It was radio overkill. Too much of a good thing sometimes. I started to automatically turned off my radio anytime Stairway to Heaven was played because I was getting burnt out on it.
