A touching surprise from GENTRI for a father battling ALS who received a Secret Santa gift

- IDAHO FALLS -- When a Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News team to surprise Wyatt and Mindy Rees two years ago with a $10,000 check, they had no idea video of the visit would go viral.
In 2014, at age 29, Wyatt started to lose feeling in one of his arms. After multiple doctor visits spanning three years, Wyatt and Mindy ended up at the Mayo Clinic in August 2017 where he was diagnosed with ALS the day before his birthday.
Wyatt and Mindy were thankful for the Secret Santa surprise and countless people around the world were touched by their humility. National media outlets wrote about their ordeal. Mindy launched a blog and Facebook page called Hope on the Horizon and has documented their journey.
Many of you have asked for an update on the Rees family. With GENTRI in eastern Idaho for a sold-out Christmas concert, EastIdahoNews.com decided to invite the group to help bring some Christmas cheer to Wyatt and Mindy.
It was a touching afternoon that won't be forgotten. Watch the video above to see the special surprise!

"It's crazy how much the Lord loves us". Wyatt said this two weeks ago and now he is dancing in the light of God's love, free from all pain and free from the confines of ALS. She has been an inspiration for not only people with ALS but for people facing challenges in life. She created a platform where people could meet and share experiences.

The first video from a couple years ago he was already speaking with the computer but was still able to express amazing emotion. I'm not even from Iowa but I totally get why folks kept asking how Wyatt was doing.

As someone who just lost his father two months ago(not to ALS but stage 4 prostate cancer), this was such an inspiration to see especially at this time of year. I remember watching the initial video from two years ago and commending them for dealing with this devastating news. And now to see them two years later, while heartbreaking to see how the disease has progressed, still so inspired, loving, and grateful for everything they have. And the love that they still show for God in such a trying time.
I'm sorry to hear you've had to say goodbye to your father. I hope you're blessed with love and joy despite the difficulty this Christmas.

Praying for Wyatt, Mindy, and their children. God, please restore Wyatt's health and by Your stripes, let him be healed. Let him speak again clearly and normally to his family and loved ones. I ask that You bless him and his family during this holiday season and the coming year. Let him live to see his children grow up and be happy. I rebuke this ALS to come out of Wyatt's body in the name of Jesus! I pray that this family, and the members of Gentri, and their families will come to know You Father, and accept You as their Lord and Savior if they haven't already. Let Gentri continue to sing and lift up their voices to You, in praise! Bless them, their families, their fans, and loved ones during this holiday season. People are fickle. Social media star's are looked up to. And that is their right.. My hero's are my family. They have fought and sadly died for this country. Yet we continue to serve.
Why are people so jealous of the Kardashians? They work hard for recognition as this young lady works hard for herself and our lord. Two different lifestyles. Many don't know this but Kim Kardashian is a CURRENT law student, ...the past several years she's worked hard to help those wrongfully convicted be released from prison. With her own money! Her husband helps the poor and every Easter has a huge FREE Easter concert and service. The other Kardashians and Jenors raise money for children and homesless. There not all bad, just different lifestyles.
The devil is the ruler of this world. Don't worry about those who worship those people loved by this world, nor the people who give them recognition. The blind lead the blind. Focus on God and that's it, plain and simple.

I give her much much credit and respect I am a 38 year old male taking care of my 41 year old wife with ALS. She was diagnosed 5 years ago and is holding strong. people ask me all the time how do I stay so strong and how do I keep going. well probably the same way they do, There KIDS. It’s really heart breaking that he’s so young battling ALS so sad. Makes you be more grateful for the things we consider “natural” and don’t think twice about. We wake up and can see, walk, talk, smell, breathe on our own. A lot of people can’t. So sad.
This must be the absolute closest I've seen Nate to breaking down. I lost my dad to muscular dystrophy on december 2010. This video and another I saw with a man that has MD was just heartwrenching. Mindy may be an inspiration to us, but to Wyatt she is his superhero and his world. Think about how hard she must work, and then multiply that by 10. Me an my mom worked hard every day to keep up - even when we had home nursing through the last year or two of his life, it was difficult. Mindy is giving up a LOT for Wyatt... And you know what? She would do it all over again. As would my mom. As would I.
If you can, please donate to ALS research. Donate to any cause that you feel strongly about. Even if it's $1, it's something that will help and may be a huge positive impact to those afflicted by illness.
That is one strong couple. I am in awe.They are so humble and positive, My heart broke for them the first time I saw them on this channel and I so saddened to see Wyatt is now on a respirator. I am now an emotional wreck.

Thank you for making such a nice surprise to a family that has been through A LOT. It's probably that man's last Christmas... And thank you for reminding me and my husband personally why we are here in the US, celebrating Christmas for the 4th year alone and away from our families. My spouse is a post-doc who does biochemical research for ALS, trying to understand the mechanisms that cause it and ways to stop or at least decelerate the disease.

Their story is very touching. Watching videos like this gives insight to what someone like my Grandma goes through with ALS. I never met my Grandma. She had ALS for three years then passed away. Five years later I was born. Its so beautiful how the wife stays at his side through sickness and health. That's true love.

I watched the original secret Santa & follow all of your great stories. I feel that my issues dwindle into insignificance compared to just what you keep bringing to my world. I just lost my Sister to ALS..my Cousin a year ago and his father my Uncle 35+years ago.Genetic ALS is in our family doesnt matter what generation..I feel this Wive's pain..it hard to watch your loved one suffer. While their brain is 100% when it gets to the point they cant move or speak or even eye blink in communication.. Yet they are very much aware of everything.😢.God Bless this Family⭐

I can’t comprehend what you are going through as a family. My brother in love lost a sister to ALS . We lost a son two years ago to complications from Cystic Fibrosis. His birthday is December eighteenth. And my life will never be the same. And my daughter tried as hard as me to find every treatment available for him. But as you all understand watching someone have such a horrible illness rips your heart out. 💐
