This 77-year-old thought Secret Santa was a scam. She broke down when she realized he was real.

- The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local man gift $500,000 this holiday season! Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and wants to help as many people as he can.
We will be surprising deserving people and families every day from now until Christmas with gifts unique to their circumstances.
Diane Pratt is a hard worker who never seems to get a break. It seems like she gets something paid for and then something else breaks down. Until she retired, it was not unusual for her to be working two jobs trying to make ends meet.
She is currently 77-years-old and working a paper route so she can purchase some new appliances she needs. Diane gets up every morning around 4 a.m. to deliver the newspapers and within the last year, was able to get a much-needed fridge and dishwasher by making monthly payments.
The paper route requires her to uses her personal vehicle and Diane puts many miles on her vehicle each day plus pays for her gasoline. Diane was a police officer but it did not provide her with a retirement fund and her only income is social security.
Diane's whole life has been devoted to caring for her kids and family. She is a loving woman who could use a little Christmas cheer.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to go surprise Diane with a special gift. Her reaction was one we have never seen - in fact, she thought we were scamming her. Then, two hours after we left her home, she unexpectedly called Nate Eaton with a message for Secret Santa.

Few years ago someone tried to get my great grandfather (RIP) In his 90s at the time calling saying it was me and I was in jail in cali and needed 2000$ for bail but don't tell anyone. He called me I was working in Illinois. My uncle was taking him to the bank when I heard his voicemail and called him back and said it wasnt me I was fine DO NOT SEND MONEY. People are sick. Never figured out who called him but I believe in karma and there's a special place in hell for people like that.
Always assume it someone want to give you something you did not ask for that it is a scam. Of if any 'company' calls you that you did not specific contact about an issue.
My father in law has been scammed multiple times both through his PC and a phone scam that stole everything in his bank account. he just believe everyone is good and truthful
There's a lady that's battled through life and never got a leg up... her emotion says it all.
Nate Eaton is so kind and patient with this elderly lady, and with others. He understands her. Those little barking dogs would have worn my patience out in a minute, but not Nate. I wonder if there are awards (civic awards, tv awards) to recognise people like Nate Eaton.

Exactly! I'm a senior (almost 70) and I get junk mail all the time that looks like official government business, but I'm very careful. Most of it is just a way to get you on their mailing lists so they can market Medicare supplements, final expense insurance and other products for seniors, but if I got a check for $5,000 from a stranger, I'd be skeptical too and I'd make sure it was legitimate before cashing it. It was heartwarming to see how her entire demeanor changed, once she realized it was genuine.
@Lotta Sunshine I'm 44 but old enough to know how the real world works. Its refreshing to see good people still exist, but it's always wise to be skeptical and cautious in life. Keep being careful because heartless thieves will take you for every penny if given the chance.
@@lottasunshine1325 you're right, and stay skeptical!!! I help a senior neighbor (92) who years before fell victim to a "life insurance" scheme that cost her over $200,000!!! (She is not wealthy, lives very humbled but was left an inheritance by her late husbands family). Woe and behold, she gets junk mail to this day and she buys into it. Not literally, but she probably would if I let her!

She looks like she's afraid to believe that someone would take the time to help someone who absolutely needs it. I'm glad that she gets the help she needs, no one who's this age should struggle to survive. A big thank you to the Secret Santa for everything that you're doing for those who absolutely needs it.

She is a bit guarded and I'm going to guess for good reason based on her life experiences, but so glad that there are others who are looking out for those who are in need, especially during this giving season. PasadenaSue Both sets of my grandparents lived in Pasadena . An aunt and uncle lived up the street from the parade. The kids spent the night at their house, while the adults camped out to save a spot ! So wonderful ! My sister was visiting recently from Wisconsin and we took our eighty eight year old mom to see the post office where her lovely dad worked from as a mailman. Then we went by the beautiful church where he was the caretaker after he retired. It is on Colorado Bl. It was a Baptist Church. Now it is an Asian Church . Take care. 🦊

ringasa well, I’m in my 70’s as well. LOTS of us have to work and it actually is more difficult than I’d thought. Younger people want older people out. We’d enjoy some time to just breathe, go back to school, learn a new thing but it’s not set up to do that. I stopped working because my company needed to know when I’d be done with cancer and I wasn’t able to tell them a date. Now I’m on social security. It’s not sad, it’s reality. The newspaper delivery route is a good job and I applaud her for having it. So happy there’s a secret Santa 🎅 out there. When I believe in things I feel rich. Right now I’m feeling very wealthy. I really love that she's a gutsy lady who was on guard to protect herself from scammers. So many seniors are vulnerable and get conned and she is NOT one of them.

Sometimes in life the winds just blow you sideways, and simple necessities aren't easily obtained any more. We never know fully what another person is going through or what burdens they are facing. That is why it doesn't hurt to treat people kindly. Simple gestures don't cost much but can make a big difference. You need not be a millionaire to do something thoughtful.

The best would be if you had the ability to provide these gifts yourself and deliver them personally, but, said it was from a secret santa. Its a real shame that everyone has to be uber-skeptical of anyone who appears to be wanting to do something nice for us, just because there are so many rotten souls trying to take advantage of people.
I think it's unfortunate alot of our senior citizens have to work into their 70s and 80s to survive, I'm grateful that she has good health to keep doing what she's doing and didn't have a heart attack receiving her Christmas gifts, it's a clear reminder that if we know of a senior that is still working we should be looking out for them and help them as much as possible, two years ago my senior neighbor fell off the roof hanging Christmas lights and it's been my honor to take care of that task for him until he passes, it's the little things that will mean something someday.

I’m in S FLorida and my parents are the age of this recipient. I was literally in tears. I imagine that many seniors may question the random generosity. I take many fraud / scam reports at my work and the majority are from unsuspecting seniors that may have been persuaded by scammers. My love and Support for your Secret Santa and his message. Micheal, you know you don't have to have tons of money to do this, the little you gave , you can bless someone in need even out of the $19, if someone has to the need for $2, you can if your heart permits. There is blessings in giving.

Wow! Reminds me of a sweet lady in Dexter Missouri. She and her husband sold newspapers at a 3 way stop and walked there until they could purchase a vehicle. The lady lost her husband several years ago, but when I worked at Walmart in 2018 she was still out there rain, snow, and heat...alone living their life selling newspapers. It really got my heart when I ran into her on my bathroom break with a hat on half frozen from being in below freezing temperatures. She is always at the stop sign with a newspaper in hand with a smile if you all ever make it this way she is one who truly deserves a thank you.

I was crying as well. She couldn't believe that someone would do something like that for her. Then her saying that her secret Santa was in her prayers every night.
