Many years ago (more than 50) I learned to do 2 rows of gathering lines in case one Breaks. And also, that technic of winding the excess thread on the pin so it stays gathered. I like your design for the "dress". Thank you!

I hope to make some of these soon. Thank you for all the work you put into this video. You did an excellent job. Yes, there is always a right and wrong side of the fabric. I used to work in a garment factory and learned how to know the difference. Yes it is VERY hard to tell so most people don’t need to worry about it, but if you look at both sides in a well lit area you can see it. The right side is on the bolt, so i make an X on the wrong side,so I can keep it correct. You can use a stiletto at 50:40 to help tuck the towel in.

You remind me of how I started sewing...I too was impatient and tried cutting corners...now I am a baster and an ironer too!. Love the little dresses. I have some of the old timers done with crochet and a button. Think I will be making some of these as gifts, maybe keep a few for myself!

It would look adorable if you put a ruffle on the outer side of the straps so it looked like a little girls dress

A good video for beginners. An easier way to gather your towel, is to take a length of dental floss and zig zag over the dental floss (making sure not to catch the dental floss in the zig zag stitch). This makes gathering so much easier than gathering with sewing thread!) After I pin it to my project, and before I sew it, I pull out the dental floss! I never baste before sewing.

Sew the 4 by 8 piece in a quarter of an inch first and then place towel inside, pin and sew. Much easier now.😊

Doing the towels for over your stove door, why use interfacing? Can't you spray starch the fabric to make it stiff? Thanks for sharing, I am looking for one that is simple and easy.

These look adorable. My question is don't you need to put a snap to connect these two sides together once you drape it over the oven door? Otherwise, don't then tend to not hang straight?

Us there a reason that you can't insert the top edge of the gathered towel inside the bottom of the dress bodice that has been turned under and pressed then stitch shut?
I love these, they are adorable. Love the ironing board idea. Great tutorial. Just curious as to if there is a reason it would not work the way I suggested as you make these I don't but I will be and wanted to find out before I do something wrong.

    • @nonstopmom8185

I would think it is much easier the way you suggested. I've seen another video that did it that way. I do like the design of this dress better. She doesn't show a side closure for it though. Could be ribbon ties or snaps, etc.

Nice idea but way to long to make a kitchen towel. I could make a dress in the time it took for a towel. Also an easier method for the towel part would be not to stitch the rectangle all the way to the bottom on the short side. If you press up 1/2” before stitching the side seam on one piece of the dress then then sew the towel to the unpressed piece it will automatically tuck under and you would not have to fuss with the corners or worry about poking out. You can just top stitch it in place.
