Use your even feed foot when sewing the pot holder to the towel. It is much quicker, easier and safer since it is meant to handle thick fabrics or multiple thicknesses of fabric.

Hi Melody! Thank you for your question. A standard universal sewing machine needle should work fine. Do you have the potholder side facing up? And be sure your feed dogs are up. Also, since there is a lot of bulk, you may need to help the sewing machine by pushing the fabric a bit to help it go through. We have a full written tutorial available here, which may also help. www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=224
I do not have a gathering stitch on my old machine and if I tried adjusting the tension on it I would never get it back to where it is supposed to be 😿😿😿😿
Hi Brenda! Thanks for your interest in our video. You can hand stitch the gathering stitch if you need to! Check out our written tutorial for more options: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=224
Hi Ann! You could make this hanging potholder towel without a sewing machine. All you have to do is with a needle and thread, hand baste stitches on the center line of towel, gather the towel to fit the potholder. Then use small hand stitches with a double thread needle and hand sew the towel to the potholder. Try it! It should work. In my kitchen, I always have a hanging towel and use it all the time.
Thanks for the detailed instructions!
You're welcome! I hope you enjoy making it.

When I gather in a towel my sewing machine doesn't want to stitch over the gathering do I need a different type of needle

@@Needlepointers thank you I will take look
Do you need to use a shank bottom or will a regular button work?
Hello! You can use a regular button also.
Beutiful
What size needle do you use? And just standard thread?
Thank you for watching our DIY hanging potholder kitchen towel video. I used a standard needle and standard thread.
@@Needlepointers I only have a 4 as the largest stitch. If its to tight will loosing tension help to gather?
I do not have a gathering stitch on my old machine and if I tried adjusting the tension on it I would never get it back to where it is supposed to be 😿😿😿😿
Hi Brenda! Thanks for your interest in our video. You can hand stitch the gathering stitch if you need to! Check out our written tutorial for more options: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=224
Cute but I don't have a sewing machine

Why isn't my bottom coming out even
When making the stitches for gathering, they must be exactly in the middle of the towel.
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
