If you want a giggle; This album and song was released the same day as Taylor Swift's Lover album. It smashed her streams and views. The Tool Army arrived that day, and left millions of Swifties screaming, "Who is Tool???". 🤣
My kid has been an obsessed Swift fan for years. She was blown away when she came out with a 10 minute song “Like who does that?!” “Have you not noticed all that music I play while we’re driving around?”
Little bit of revisionist history going on here. This song was released weeks before the album. The album was released a week after Swifts’, knocking her out from number one spot a lot earlier than her fans were expecting. Streams and views and downloads for Tool in general smashed everything, because they released their entire discography at once.
This is their opener to their live shows, and it’s absolutely perfect for it. The weird sound effect at the start signaling the start of the show and building anticipation, each band member joining one at a time (and getting a massive cheer from the crowd when they do) ending with Maynard, the massive chorus, it’s just the perfect opening song Also as far as Justin's sound goes, it may just be his WAL basses
@@RosettaStoned462 Man, Disposition/Reflection/Triad is one of the deepest, most spiritual experiences I've ever had. It's certainly in my top 5 best TOOL songs ever, which of course means top 5 best songs ever, simply because no other band is capable of surpassing TOOL :) When I say Descending is my favourite, it's purely based on my subjective emotional response to the song, and not based on any objective reasoning whatsoever. Descending gave me the strength to fight in some of the most critical moments of my life, when fear and anxiety took over and I needed something to keep me moving forwards. _Mobilize, stay alive!!_

This song opens the album and is actually one of the shortest songs on the album which is also the 2nd last track to react to on this album Edit... There's nothing better than an hour long Tool react from Dave I'm here for it all day... Except for when I'm at work =p
I like fear inoculum but don't love it like orher TOOL tracks. That being said, I saw them perform it for the 5th time in St Paul on Halloween and it's a whole nother animal in concert. This song needs to be heard AND felt. It's so powerful
You have me chasing my tail. I am a few minutes into the video and watched some live versions to see how Justin's swell consistency is. Yep. He's consistent. No reason he couldn't pull it off in studio recording as well. haha. Great review so far.....back to watching.
Awesome dude, love it - great track too. Would love to see you react to Push-It. You've done the live version, but the studio version has a whole different feel to it - more 'groovin' and the climax (so to speak) is incredible. It's off the Aenima album. Take care man, keep it up 😊
The only bad part about this is we're getting closer to no tracks off of Fear Inoculum left for DH to react to. By the way, I always find it funny (in a very dark way) that Tool came back after more than 10 years just a couple months before the pandemic with the opening track of the album beginning with the line: "Immunity long overdue, contagion I exhale you."
Yo another awesome review! Just wondering if ya ever listened to “Probot” it was started by dave grohl as a heavy metal project in 2004, it started as just instrumental but then he gathered a bunch of badasses to add vocals to them including cronos, lemmie , and jack black!
Great review! I have a suggestion for you. Since you like to bring in your bass to play the song, have you thought about connecting your bass to a preamp through your computer so we could hear what you play? Would be pretty cool!
I have tried, unfortunately my computer only recognized one "microphone", which the preamp was being recognized as, so I can't use the preamp and my mic at the same time. I haven't figured it out yet, and in the meantime I'm saving up for a small little combo amp I can use for the show. My regular rig is an Ampeg SVT Classic All Tube 300 watt head that goes into a 6x10 Ampeg cabinet....WAAAAAAAY too beefy and powerful, my neighbors would complain.
And now realise they dropped this album and this song in the same week the first SARS-Cov-2 samples were reportedly collected in China… And now read the lyrics of the song again.
Love this track, it was the first new single they released in 13 years after the 10,000 days record 🤘🌀 Edit: a 9.4 wow! I think that ties your highest score given for a Tool song, rock on David
My only complaint on this album is Maynard's vocals. It's pretty like his other groups. Tool vocals were grittier. There's so many spaces where he would've filed it with a scream. I know he can't do that live much anymore, but it would've been good on the album, at least.
Amazed at how high the score is for this - this is one of my bottom 3 choices off that album and I usually skip it. David's reasoning makes perfect sense (and c'mon, you know we don't mind an hour of this), the song just doesn't click with me but the analysis was a lot of fun.
No one mines an hour on a real reaction with real insight to the song . No one is gonna be upset with the 9.4 that knows your scale and No one is gonna be upset with the Grudge as your favorite. Another May hit you at the right time and become your favorite. Only matters that you take away the complete artistic value of the art of their music Thanks

Haha yes I remember that, it was great
The placement of the word "mitosis" in the song, separating the song exactly in half, is genius!
Its remarkable.
I think it's cool but I don't think it was intentional tbh.
It's not though.
@justinman114 Kinda cooler if it wasn’t
@@ckunderck7318 absolutely
Tool is touring the US again this winter hope you are planning on attending 👍
Well worth the cost
Love when Dave goes off to appreciate the technique. It's like I'm a kid watching cartoons and not catching any of the "adult" jokes.😇
"Like the time Dave floated away..."
(a clear Space Odyssey reference)
I'm going to see this song live in about 2.5 hours!
That's awesome have fun!

'Ethereal' is the word you're looking for David.
I've been a Tool fan for almost 30 years, and The Grudge is still my favorite.
It was my favourite until I heard Descending. But it's damn close.
@@alihijazi4451 this was me as well.. It took a couple listens but descending took the throne
@@alihijazi4451 Understandable. Descending is definitely way high up there for me as well.
How can you have a favorite??!!! I don't have a favorite, but if I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, it would be Reflection

I love that you geeked out over the chorus as much as I did when I first heard it.
Such a weird, expansive album, has so many layers...it's sublime; this album sounds like it took 10 years to perfectly craft and record, brilliant!
Close enough, it took 13 years ;)
You'r reaction and counting are just so great to watch! :D
DH never disappoints, what an amazing review for an amazing song. Thanks for this! Learnt a lot!

Don't be silly, we're all happy to spend an hour with you talking about music.
I absolutely love when David stops….”i’m sorry, I gotta play it, gotta play it”🤘🏽🔥🌀
Not my most favorite off this album, but it absolutely has interesting moments that I’m excited for you to take apart.
Glad you like it the part of the vocals, i find it very adictive

I've heard of Probot, but I don't think I've ever heard anything from them.
TOOL=GOAT!✌️
Good album. Tool never disappoints.
Respectfully disagree. This album was awful.
Great album, only weak point for me was culling voices, but even that song is better than what most artists will put out in their lifetime.
David sounds like a kid on Christmas morning with this song. 🎄 🎁
David genuinely sounds like a kid on Christmas morning during parts of this. 💪🎁 🎄😂

Justin is the secret sauce w/TOOL. The glue that ties it all together ✌🏼😬
Love the RoboCop clip!!!
I got the 11/8 at the same time you did! 😀I was counting 8 and 3, though, based on the guitar.
And just think, this was the first new track fans had heard in 13 years. What a welcome back.
And now realise they dropped this album and this song in the same week the first SARS-Cov-2 samples were reportedly collected in China…

This song is played on their North American tour currently going on... I feel this one is the one everyone forgets about off this album
Love this track, it was the first new single they released in 13 years after the 10,000 days record 🤘🌀
Edit: a 9.4 wow! I think that ties your highest score given for a Tool song, rock on David
Almost... Lateralus got 9.6 and danny carey pneuma drum cam got 9.5
@@supervisedchaos Sooo... Only Nightwish got a higher score: 9.9, 9.8 and 9.7.
It's time David creates a list with the highest scores down to zero. 😉
Appreciate the reaction brother. 👍✌️
Seeing Tool Live Is A Spiritual Experience..Not a Concert
The Grudge has been in my top 2 songs for years
David, I need a calculator. LOL. ✌️
I know he likes to count. I’m here to see a face melt at you-know-when-o’clock
Epica T-shirt? Sweet! 🌀🌀🌀👍👍👍

Tool vocals were grittier. There's so many spaces where he would've filed it with a scream. I know he can't do that live much anymore, but it would've been good on the album, at least.
His guitar is volume knob adjustments only. Watch him live.
man i love tool!! fpr tool fans, tesseract concealing fate part 1 and 2!! you will love them!!
also the ending is 11/8 for the first 4 measures and then two 13/8 measures like 6+7 and then a measure of 10/8. That's how i count it

I always thought it was an underrated tune when compared to Pneuma and others. But Descending is still my favorite on FI. But FI may be number 2.
It's still amazing, like all of their stuff, but I think invincible and Descending are ridiculous. Not just from FI ,but in general.
I love when they switch to 11/8. I like to count it 6+5
Not a backmasking effect.
He indeed is doing swells with the volume knob... so is Justin in the intro.
Oh, and Dave said "...it's not hard..." to a Tool track. Everyone drink!🍺🍺🍺
You wouldn't put it top 5 but just curious... Did you give higher or equal than 9.4 to 5 other TOOL songs?
A couple of others, but not 5.
Do yourself a favor please and go see TOOL.
🤘🏻🌀
Great
also I think his vocals are in 12/8 here 29:25. I think.. I'm not sure.

Would've been cool to hear you play to figure out those riffs.
🔥🔥🔥🔥💪
25:17 6 + 5
Jc tone = WAL bass + sansamp pre
I predict a score of 8.3
Justin uses a Wal. Big part of his sound. Very expensive bass.
I feel like this song is going to hit me hard in like 8-10 years. I like it but it’s the one song on the album that doesn’t do it for me.
Tool has no "4/4" songs..
(yeah, many/most are in 4/4..)
Have you heard of the Ukraine progressive metal core band Jinjer? If not let me know heavy ya want to go
I've already done several reactions to Jinjer.
I can not begin to describe what an utter disappointment this album was to me.
Amazing what can happen when 4 alien beings get together to play music.
