@BallTistic Screecher nah, they've definitely got some turds, this isn't one of them though. I for one don't even like opiate or a good chunk of undertow. Aenima and lateralus are great beginning to end, 10,000 days is weak in the middle of the album. Every band has turds. This song is good because of its subtlety and because it shows a maturity to their sound.

I remember talking to one of my close friends about Fear Inocolum the day it came out. The first time I heard it, I told him: "I think sounds like The Grudge and the Parabol together, but in a more evolved manner, as if the Tool members grew older and their music matured with them".
I didn't listen to it again for some days. I came back to it 3 days ago and, after having listened to it around 50 times, I don't know what else to say... It's Tool and they got yet to on another level, a different level from what (I think) we expected, but on a level that they are going to amaze us like noone else. It's crazy to think that we waited for 13 years for a new album and Tool still prove they are ahead of the curve!

I didn't want to listen to this song, until the whole album comes out, but since you did it, I had to, too; Jim. Basically I was very afraid, can they fill up the expectations after so long a wait. I'd say yes, Tool did it. At least with this song. I don't think there's any band ever been building up the tension as Tool have been over the expectations. This sound really promising and I hope the whole new album will be as good as this song.

Jim, I was lucky enough to have discovered TOOL back in 1995. They have been huge part of my life ever since then.(going to concerts, listening, collecting everything TOOL, watching videos, etc...) I was so glad to find your channel and watch you "discover" and appreciate them as I do. I was at work when this single finally dropped. I was so excited, I could barely breathe. My reaction was much like yours. I must admit, I was a little afraid that "Fear Inoculum" couldn't possibly meet my hopes, dreams, and super high expectations of new material after a long 13 year wait. When the song finished, I felt like I had reconnected with an old best friend that I hadn't seen in a very long time. My next thought was to get home ASAP and get the headphones out and dig deeper. After about 10 listens, my next thought was, "I wonder if Jim has reacted to it yet?" Thank you so much for your genuine reactions. Always a pleasure to visit with you and your channel.

I read the recent interview of Tool in the new issue of Revolver magazine, and they were asked about what Fear Inoculum is about and a lot of them were saying it was about getting older and not caring or giving a shit no more, being comfortable with yourself accepting your fears and making them work for you rather in live in fear. Them not caring what people them of their music or what critics think. There is so much fear in the world today, the media is flooded with fear and its no way to live. Adam said quote "I'm going to wear sock with sandals. I don't give a fuck what people think. I'm going to be comfortable"
This song only gets better with time. I was not that impressed on first listen, but now I think its absolutly amazing now after hearing a bunch of times. Tool songs age like fine wine! I am so excited for the new album, I think its going to be one of their best. I feel ya! The more I listen, the more the song cuts through the mental callous and exposes raw emotion. Great music is like that. While the catchy, simple tune soothes the simple mind, complex tunes take time and their effect is so much more profound. And those effects can potentially last a lifetime. Wings for Marie 1+2, Right in Two, 46 + 2 all have that kind of feeling
