I really appreciate your detailed and thoughtful opinions on the use of spacers. A real world mileage and travel based review was and is very helpful so thank you! I feel that most spacer failures are due to improper installation, lack of diligent torque spec monitoring, and finally, poorly made cast spacers being used and expected to do more than they were designed for (mall crawler). BORA and SPIDER TRAX are quality made, and I feel that ROUGH COUNTRY offers a quality spacer, similar quality to BORA and SPIDER TRAX in terms of the same specs on the hardness and type of aluminum used, at a lower cost price point. I have no personal experience using any of them, honestly and for transparencies sake but have done A METRIC TON of research on spacers, usage, torque setting and maintenance. I believe you have proven the leg work in actual use and application and your real world use on and off road has made ME, an absolute believer in their safe use, worth and proven longevity, in certain applications.
There's a lot of trash talk around but I've yet to hear anyone report a failure from a properly installed spacer
Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. I think like anything else, proper installation and maintenance goes a long way!
I'M GLAD YOU POSTED THIS CHANNEL. EVERONE IS SAYING USE RED LOC TITE, THREAD LOCKER. THAT DID NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. I WAS THINKING BLUE MADE MORE SENSE. AND WITH 50K UNDER YOU BELT. I'M GOING WITH YOUR BLUE. GOD BLESS! FROM THE 641.. NEW SUB!
Thanks brother !! Just passing along what has worked well for me.. whether its Loctite or Jesus !
BORA doesn't recommend any loc-tite. Called them directly.
Thanks for your thoughts. For the backspacing I need I’m at the place where I’ll have to go either custom wheels or run spacers, so I’m one of those on-the-fencers.
awesome job thanks for the information, going to buy some for my Toyota
thanks for the honest review. I'm on the fence. but helped lean more towards getting it
Thanks for doing this, man... I am putting 1" hub-centric spacers on the rear of my 94 Cobra.. feel more comfortable after watching this (and i will NOT be doing any off roading so i'm confident i will have zero issues)
Thank you. This is what I needed to see.
Sounds like very good logic to me ! I'd even put a reminder on my phone to check them at intervals. Just to be sure. Thanks for the insight !
Thank you brother! I'm on the fence and I'm thinking I'm going to try them out.
Good info, David! Well done!
Thank you for your input on wheel spacers. Especially having that many miles for a real world review. Keep up the awesome content. Cheers.🍻

Love the tacoma my first truck was a 1st gen i recently just upgraded to a 2nd gen really want to get some bigger tires
I just put good quality spacers on my 1980 Toyota Fj 43. I upgraded to the 17 inch steelies with 265/65/17 tires. Originally the truck came with 16 inch wheels (split rims) and tires. I really appreciate your video. I'm going to put loctite on the nuts, carry a torque wrench always and check them every time I take my rig out. Right now I don't do much off-roading, and plan to do very little in the future. Love your Taco too! Cheers
awesome vid, thanks for giving a time frame on how often you re torqued/checked on the spacers, the Taco looks sick
Thank you! God bless and thanks for watching
Love your bumper, looks great!
Thanks that one is made by All Pro Off-Road
Just subbed love these Utah off roading videos
Thanks for subscribing ! Lots more off-road videos coming soon !!
Good info and nice truck
Great job 👏🏻
I think being hubcentric is the most important thing. Wheels are designed this way. And I agree, torque is also important, along with locktite.
Not all. Some jeeps (XJs etc.) are lug centric.
Thanks, that helps
Good perspective.
I agree with you.
Running 1.5" Rough Country hub centric spacers on my '08 WK. No problems! *fingers crossed
Ehhhh rough country is iffy but hope you dont have any problems
Would like to see your off road camper trailer !

Always bring a torque wrench at all times after offroading... the wheels after offroading and torque the wheel spacers when you get home.
What about bearing wear? Have you repacked your bearings, like during a brake pad replacement?
I have a set of lug centric spacers (the lugs you put on center the spacer based on bolt patern) that ive ran a little and had no problems. Loctite screwed my first spacers, which were cheap asf, when i went to take them off for my good set a nut stripped and i had to get cutting 😂😂
Praise God indeed! Good closer. Thanks. Guy at the shop told me spacers were unsafe. Think I'll just follow the advice here and keep running them!
AFAIK wheel studs or bolts do not carry any load except for tension to clamp hub and wheel mating surfaces together. It is the ‘friction’ between these two that carry all the loads. Hub-centric design only partly helps and they have to fit perfectly to work. Therefore, it is not the bolts or studs that may fail but the ‘plate’ of those 1-2 inch spacers. Maybe I would feel safer if they were ‘forged’ instead of simply ‘casted’. Nevertheless, I still prefer getting a properly offset wheel and be worry- free. Just my 2c. Thanks.
I've been thinking along the same line.
I'll be putting larger tires (and new wheels) on my tacoma. But the larger tires are what wear out the suspension parts the most, from what my mechanic buddy tells me. Similar to how really heavy large steel tow boots wear out your knees. Maybe wrong analogy.
So I'm already gonna wear out my suspension more, and should simply think about which is the strongest most reliable.
If im going to need to move that larger tire out, ill need wheel spacers or wheels that move the larger tire out.
It seems to me that properly offset wheels have less failpoints, and should be stronger... but cost more.
Do it right from the beginning i think.
So I'll save money until i can afford to do it right.
Why not Billet?
Will spacers affect my offroading ?
Thank you for this detailed video! I am looking at the G2 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern with 1.25" Wheel Spacers (Black) - 93-83-125T for my 2019 Ram 1500 after doing a leveling kit and wanted to know what you think of these G2 spacers? They are hub centric and made from aluminum cast iron.
Those seem like a quality product!
Thanks for watching and God bless.
Better use Antiseize lol once that rain hits n medal is grinding and your putting tons of miles on them, they get stuck
If you recheck them regularly you should know the spec
Did you have the front end re aligned after installing the spacers?
Hi, what wheels are you using? They look great!
what about wear and tear on your suspension components like bearings?
I had tq to 84lb on my spider traxx
How did you mount your roof cargo basket? I have a 2003 Tacoma with the same Xtra cab and having trouble finding a compatible rack. Looks like you mounted the basket directly to the roof,
That is correct. I couldn't find a good mounting system so I bolted mine directly through the roof lol.. Had to drop the headliner but I sealed the holes with roofing tar on the outside and silicone on the inside and never had a leak. Good luck & God bless!
Other install videos of spacers claim you should torque spacers to same specs as lugnuts. That you should not have Teo different torque specs for Lugnuts and spacers. Which insist? Torque lugnuts and spacer to same? Or use different torque for spacers? Thanks
Personally I would stay with the torque specs given for each (wheels and spacers individually). My truck came with steel wheels whereas the spacers are aluminum so I wouldn't want to over-torque them if the spec for the wheel is higher.
I have 2-inch spacers on my 07 FJ. No problems.
What brand?
@@dvader3000 don’t remember I believe it was a Amazon buy.
You didn't talk about the ride quality, mpg change, any vibration??
great looking first gen David. If I could ask, what size tire and wheel combo are you running here ?
Thanks! The tire wheel combo at that time was 315/75/16s on 16x8 inch wheels, not sure of the offset. God bless!
This was really helpful information. I ordered some hub centric 2” adapter/spacers for my F-150 so I could run a different lug pattern and better wheels.
Side note, who makes those sunglasses? Nice design.
Glad to hear that, hope the spacers work out for ya.
The glasses are Dubery from Amazon.
Thanks for watching !
@@WildFaith Thanks for the quick reply. I ordered a pair and couldn't believe how inexpensive they are with a polarized lens!
@@paulcrawford904 no problem man ! If you haven't please give me a subscribe!!
Thanks for the excellent overview and feedback on the SpiderTrax spacers man. Glory to GOD! 🇺🇸
You're welcome. Thanks for watching brother ! God bless
about to put 1.25" spydertrax on my runner. Made sure they were hub centric.
Torn between 1.25 and 1.5. What do you think?
@@abelzoni2138 personally I would use the smallest spacer that will give you the needed clearance. Good luck and God bless!
@@WildFaith 1.25
I have installed 30mm wheel spacers after a 2 inch suspension lift on Prado.
The wheels are still stock.
I have 3 options.
Should I get -12 offset and remove spacers?
Or
Keep spacers with stock wheels
Or
Get -12 offset and let the wheel spacers be there..
I'd say its always BEST to have the proper offset wheel and not have to use spacers. With that said I wouldn't be afraid to use those small 30mm spacers while keeping in mind the things I mentioned in this video.
Hope you find the best setup for your needs! God bless
Did I miss the brand?I have a set of wheels I want to put on my Jimmy 4x4 and need adapters but only heard bad things about them.I agree it's all about the material and installation or how could there be a legal market for them.
SpiderTrax spacers. They do make quite a few different lug patterns ! Good luck
I've never had a need for a wheel spacer so don't know much about them but............................
Ironically, I just saw a video tonight about a wheel spacer that caused a front bearing failure. The wheel was still firmly on the hub, but the bearing was trashed.
Can you please drop the link to the package you got and everything you needed?
www.4wheelparts.com/p/spidertrax-offroad-1-25-thick-wheel-spacers-anodized-blue-whs007/_/R-FRHP-WHS007
Hi , good truck body.
Question?
Which one are those qualities spacers ? I got a 4runner 1999 and I am thinking 🤔 like 2" inches spacers.
What you think?
Thank you.✌️
Those are 1.25" Spidertrax spacers. Personally I wouldn't go larger than 1.5" good luck !
Bro,please can you help get some? Do you recommend a website?
Thank you
Did you use anti sieze?
I’m looking to get 35s to fit my yoga. I’m about to get the same spacers you got. What is the offset of your wheels on this video? if you don’t mind me asking
I actually don't know the exact offset of these wheels as I bought them used. I do know that I had to do quite a bit of cutting/ clearancing to fit 35s on this 1st generation tacoma. Best of luck with your build! Thanks for watching and God bless!!
Hey.... Where did ya get that extended cab roof rack?
I actually purchased it from Amazon. It is made by 'Curt'. Thanks for watching !
Even if installed correctly and good quality, they still change the bearing loading geometry to weaken the front end and increase wear. Not saying they don't 'work', just that there are better ways to solve the problem. Sounds like it has worked out for you though.
So if my TRD OR rims are +25 offset and I add 1.25” spidertraxx spacers which brings my rims to -6 offset. What difference would it be if I bought rims at -6 offset vs spacers. Wouldn’t both accomplish the same thing? (Serious question. Not being a smart ass)
Agreed! Thanks for the input
@@ascentoffroad you are correct in saying that the total offset would be the same but I do think that spacers load the bearing surface in a different manner than a machined wheel surface would. There is also the added connection point of "stacking" a spacer in between which is another point for POSSIBLE failure. I'm not an engineer, just some guy with a truck, but as stated in the video, I never had a problem...
Best of luck in whatever route you choose. God bless
The kicker seems to be the spacer thickness. If you paste 3" spacers on your 4x4, I can see where the leverage could lead to excessive bearing wear. The use of 1" to 1.5" spacers is reasonable and I keep my factory TRD wheels. I purchased 1.25" BORA 's.
@@bigbird5754 Agreed, the more the worse, but the proper solve for high durability is a lengthened A arm suspension. Much fabrication and engineering involved, so unless your wallet is up to it better to keep the tires to a functional size. No one wants to hear that though.
I have a 2in hub centric styled spacers for my f150. I lock tight and torqued them to spec. I for some reason have odd vibration at higher speeds and cant figure it out.
Must some other components in the front end that are worn out. You can lay under the truck and have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth to look for play.
What wheels are those?!?
Hey David, I`m planning to install 1" spacers on my 2" lifted Grand Cherokee WJ, and my question is, will you get any type of understeer in tight turns?
I didn't notice any understeer with the spacers. The truck did have a little more tendency to grab ruts/cracks in the road with the wider stance but nothing too extreme. Good luck and God bless!
@@WildFaith Thanks for the input, God Speed brother!
Tires poking out too much throw crap all the side of your ride, and more than likely a spacer is going to make your front tires rub. Especially off road.
Look good though.
But how often do you have to re-torque?
I would check them every oil change and never really had any movement
Great video! Jesus is King!
Amen brother! Thanks for watching
Been running 1 1/2 on my lifted explore runs drives straight love them
Dont buy cheap ones !!!
Tighten to specs
And check then here and there , but absolutely dont buy cheap ones and follow the specs and mine as well set on the hub
Kinda wrote this before I watched the whole vid lmao but you covered it lol good vid
Yep, BORA or Spyder Trax!
Recorded horizontally😀👍
Haha NO vertical vids here 🤣
Should u replace them every every couple of years or keep them till they brake?
You shouldn't need to ever replace the wheel spacers unless the threads on the lugs are compromised or if you notice any cracks in the hub surface. God bless !
@@WildFaith thanks for the reply definitely going to get them now
Only feedback on durability. What about handling? I'm guessing the handling for and traction improved by alot
That’s my home town your by gate way
That was actually Debeque canyon but not far ! God bless
What brand spacers?
Spidertrax 👍
What way handling changed after all suspension mods?
Handles well with that suspension set up. The wide tires affect handling more than anything though
@@WildFaith For better?
@@Fosgen yes and no. The width makes it stable, but the tires want to grab any ruts or cracks in the road more
@@WildFaith I see. I am purely thinking to change offset by 40 mm and run 40 mm wider tires. What would you recommend? Just spacers? Or wider wheels with wider tires?
@@Fosgen I'd recommend wider wheels and tires and not using spacers if you don't need to. Best of luck, God bless!
Any affect on ride quality steering vibration ?
I didn't notice anything like that. Thanks for watching !
@@WildFaith I have been running Bora spacers front and back with 37’s for about 6 months , no issues either
Wild faith AMIRITE LOL
Its not good becsuse the wheel does not sit on the hub centet
Do not use wheel spacers. They KILLED my friends daughter. Back in 2010 she was driving on the QEW highway near Toronto Canada, the back tire of a pick-up truck came off and entered the oncoming traffic and killed my friends Daughter Megan instantally. The reason for the tire coming off was eventually traced back to the installation of a wheel spacer on the pick-up truck. Wheel spacers should be outlawed.
