Happy Friday everyone! We hear that Nissan might be revealing a new, even more off-road capable version of the Frontier next month at the Chicago Auto Show. We will be there to bring you all the coverage live from the Windy City! Any ideas on what this more off-road ready version of the Frontier might be called?

This truck power plant and transmission are very solid built to last i love mine 2022 SV model king cab 6’ bed great for truck usage or going to the golf course 👍🏼👍🏼 up
I've had two Frontier's and a Colorado. I'd stick with a Nissan any day. However, the pricing on the new semi-opulent midsize trucks has become extreme across the board with Nissan, Ford, Chevy, GMC, Toyota and Honda. I've also owned F-150's (4) and a Ram. In my opinion, considering what you will be required to pay for these vehicles, the full-size trucks make far more financial sense. They have better comfort, more space, more power and nearly equal fuel efficiency. I truly wonder if these new midsize trucks will price themselves out of existence?
The fuel efficiency of the “mid sized” trucks is abysmal for what they are. Also the cost difference isn’t as big as most might think, especially if you take it easy on the options on the full sized truck.
@@tomdavis3038 You're 100% correct. Since I'm older now, I've moved to a nice mid-size sedan. However, if I went back to a truck, these overpriced Frontiers, Rangers, Colorados and so on, wouldn't even be in the picture.
I love the new truck and really like that this has a natural V6 compared to the Turbo 4’s. They are great too but will require more maintenance in the future. But I hate that all these midsized trucks don’t have rear AC vents. I have kids and a dog. To me rear vents should be required. I’m glad this truck has a 21 Hal file Tank compared to the Ranger’s 18. I really like the Tremor just with it was not a turbo engine.
In a smaller truck like these they figure enough air will reach from the front. In my old Corolla, there were ventilation ducts that ran under the floor/seats and blew air from under the seats.
You look pretty comfortable driving for a guy who couldn’t get comfortable without a telescoping steering wheel. I test drove one and really liked it. (And I’m a Toyota guy) This trim is next to impossible to find. There are lots of SVs out there, but almost none with the premium package. Overall, nice review. 👍🏻
People that go off-roading and hunting in the back country don’t want an auto mode 4wd. 4H and 4L is tried and true. I really hope Nissan does not touch that in the future
Your Thumbnail has a red line at the bottom of the picture. It made me think I had already seen this video. RUclips puts the red line at the bottom of previously watched videos also...
The Frontier has always been the best midsize truck but the others get the love and attention. I have a Tacoma and I gotta tell you I simply don't understand why people rave over it.
From what i understand its the reliability and longevity of the Tacoma, but is it really that much better than the Frontier? I want the Frontier but I just worry about hiw long itll last me
Tacomas are wildly popular for overlanding builds and offroading while being reliable and holding their value. Even though the stock transmission and throttle programming is garbage for mpg, you can get a tune to fix it completely. Its also cramped for some who need more space. Still People buy them for those reasons.
While watching this I was intrigued and went to go configure a new one for myself. I was VERY happy to see it was available as a King Cab (like my current Frontier) and that you weren't forced to sacrifice useful cargo space for useless passenger space. I could get it as a base model with painted steel wheels, and in a plain refrigerator white, which I also liked. Then we came to the one thing that my 98 Frontier has that I couldn't get on this one, and it's a deal breaker for me. There's no manual transmission option. That, and that alone means I will keep on driving my old truck as long as I can since I simply HATE driving automatics.
Look in the drivers side wheel well you can see the steering arm and it looks adjustable..i wonder if you could move it slightly to help push the steering wheel out an inch or so?
Why I’ll buy a Maverick is mpg, I’ve always wanted to have a bed for camping, beach trips etc nothing heavy and still use daily. Some of these smaller trucks should really have a hybrid option
In 2-3 years Nissan will drop its pricing to undercut its competition like it used to do with the previous Frontier. In Canada pricing on all lower trim versions is so close to the Pro-4X that it makes no sense not to buy the Pro-4X
You’re right as soon as the new Tacoma comes out they’ll take a few grand off of this. Honestly I’d buy it then because this is pretty nice for what it is
Nice review. If I drove more and still wanted a body-on-frame truck I'd trade in my 2018 Frontier Pro-4x. But for me, I think it'll be the Maverick when I do finally trade.
You're very critical over the silliest things. Things that don't matter. I want to know if it's safe, solid and reliable. Not if it feels like the previous model or looks plain, or has a crease where dirt could go.
I owned 2 gen 2 Frontiers and I loved those trucks, mainly for the excellent value they offered. Unfortunately Nissan has made this gen 3 redesign way too expensive. Also, if you want the 6ft LWB version like I would get, several basic features (LED headlights, heated seats/steering wheel, sunroof, etc) aren't available at all...and no telescoping steering wheel either. Huge fail on Nissan's part to omit such basic items from the LWB truck. I would definitely purchase a SV LWB if I could get those features, but this is a hard pass for me. Come on Nissan!
@@brad4527 Why would I pay even more to get equipment that should be there from the factory? No thanks! This new Frontier is already too expensive so no one in their right mind would pay even more for dealer installed features that should be standard. I certainly wouldn't.
Comes standard with a V6 at $28k so it's still a pretty good value. The Taco starts at $32k with a V6. Although I do agree they should have added pretty basic features like a telescoping steering wheel. That's a huge oversight that is pretty inexpensive to include.
I dove this truck yesterday, getting a truck ( so I can tow a smaller trailer) next year. going to look at other trucks, but this will be the frontrunner ( pun intended). steering more than a bit heavy at super low speeds , but at normal speed, its great and not numb like most electric racks feel there days. the ride is firm and seemed to be quiet. not too impressed with seats. still need to go back to look at King Cab. non turbo trucks are hard to find. yes, if you want junk buy a gm, otherwise its a Tacoma with a v6, but seems like going turbo next gen, so no go. Also Toyota dealers will likely make you pay way way above sticker, that is not happening. I will be ables to order one exactly how I want, so no need to compromise or get unless options I don't want.
Is the Frontier your still front runner? I have my 22’ for about 5 months now. I like it. No problems, so far. Just a few annoying interior rattles and noises. I love the way it looks. I overpaid, I could of gotten the Pro 4X for the money I paid…for an S model lol.
I don't know about everyone else but I would rather have a rear locker or another 200 lbs of payload than a screen of any size or lane keep assist/ parking sensors/apple car play or a fancy sound system.
My 22 Frontier best gas mileage was 28.4 mpg. That is car like numbers for fuel economy. Fuel economy like that is incredible for a truck, especially with high gas prices we have now.
Man i just don’t agree with the price. $42k for the SV and not even a Pro4x. In my opinion, Nissan will be successful when the price is cheaper than a tacoma. For those prices you can buy a trd pro almost. I love the look and the power and will probably choose this over a tacoma, but still!
Great video. Bought a 2020 SV Midnight Edition in late 2020. It's great but, opted for the 4X2 instead of the 4X4. Thinking about trading it in for the '22.
I had a 2014 4x4 SV, which for the most part is the same truck you got. You have newer electronics and I believe the 3.8L engine instead of the 4.0L, but otherwise it’s gonna be similar in how it drives. I literally never needed 4 wheel drive, even when I took it in 8 inch deep snow and up some very questionable dirt roads that lead into places no car should ever go (one of those ended in a sandy, muddy creek bed and I had to drive into that to have room to turn around). The truck went in and came out in rear wheel drive only, every single time. Had it 5 years and traded for an SUV with more interior space. I miss the truck, but the SUV serves my current needs better. But as trucks go, the Frontier was the most capable vehicle I’ve ever owned, on and off road. And again, not to overstate it, but I know I only engaged 4x4 mode less than 10 times in 5 years, and that was literally just for the novelty of using it and to feel it working. It wasn’t needed at all. Something about that design just made it as stable as could be, and allowed it to just GO in the snow, mud, sand, even standing water. I think knowing I had 4x4 mode if needed gave me confidence to drive into places like that, but once I found out that the truck would go I just never saw a need to engage it. And it went without issue continually, and I went off-road a good bit, and had three different snow storms where snow was around 8”, and plenty more in the 3”-6” ranges. Never an issue! So enjoy owning this truck, it has the ability to go even without 4x4.
I keep switching between this and the chevy Colorado... I like the stance of the Colorado... but I like almost all of this more. But it seems the Colorado cost lest as well
I know you reviewed a Taos a couple months ago but I’ve heard they did a software update to fix the delay off the line. Where I live there aren’t many and are hard to find. Do you think you could review one again?
I am disappointed they did address the upright back seats. because of that now i have to wait and see what the new Tacoma, Colorado and Ranger will offer. Its said that narrow Ranger and Colorado will grow and offer more interior space than the cramp frontier. They will also have a deeper bed.
So far I’m enjoying my 22 Frontier SV crew cab 3.8L 4x4. Just don’t like the halogen headlights and fog lights. I’m able to get a pair of sylvania silverstar 9007 and easily swap out bulbs painlessly?
The owner’s manual says the headlight assembly must be removed to swap the bulbs. But I don’t see why you couldn’t access them without taking them out. I also have a ‘22. I do find the headlights rather dim too.
A legit question, with this class of trucks near prices of full sized and fuel mileage really no better if not worse, other than parking, what’s the point of this segment. They better come in at 10k below in price and 10 mpg better otherwise I’m buying a full size
An LED running light went out on my mom's Toureg, cost $1500 to replace the whole thing which of course has sensors and the light turns with the wheel. German engineering.
This is the big problem with "tester vehicles". Some options and specs on the tester, never make it to vehicles the public actually ends up buying. The LED headlights, driving lights, rear brake lights AND leather interior (fake or real) are not available on the SV trim in 2024. And from what I can see on used trucks, they weren't available in 2022 either, without going up to the Pro-4X trim. This simple fact alone, pushes me away from the Frontier, because I don't want to buy a off-road spec'd truck for long term use, and Halogen lights have been outdated for years and years already.
Really surprised Nissan used the same steering wheel they've been using for years. Why not give the Frontier the newer Pathfinder wheel? Having said that, this truck is a homerun for Nissan IMO.
Needs more head room, I'm 5'9 and hit my head on the door seal getting in, if they would just raise it one lousy inch wow what a difference it would make getting in and out.
The “new” Taco has Toyota Yaris fuel tank capacity and a V4 turbo engine? How can we compare with an old school midsize truck like this solid Frontier… all techs and comfy interiors that you feel you are driving a sedan? Nissan made it right.
I was hoping for this 3 gen to be priced closely to the out going but being on the lower end of middle class and not really needing a truck but rather want instead I can honestly say that I won’t be looking at these or anything priced above $30k! Vehicles are absurdly expensive and I’m done with the $700-750 monthly payments. Maverick here I come when the time is right!
Bring the engine, taillights and dashboard from the 2022 Frontier to the 2022 Navara, It'll be perfect. Many Nissan cars do not have a telescopic steering wheel. I don't understand why.
I don't know if the Nissan Leaf after the facelift finally has. It's unexeptable that a carmaker in back then 2021 didn't offer a tilt and telescopic steering wheel.. Every single mini compact car offers it these days so why not a freaking Truck..?
Just bought this truck in the long wheel base version to replace my 20 year old Toyota Tundra. The LWB Frontier is actually as big or bigger than my Tundra in almost every dimension except 3 inches narrower in the Nissan. When I test drove the Frontier it felt exactly like a modernized version of a 1st gen Tundra. Perfect. The current Tacoma is gutless for towing with an overly busy transmission and really bad driving position. The new Tundra is officially a bro-dozer with it's enormous dimensions, cartoonish styling, and questionable twin turbo engine. Sadly, Toyota lost me as a customer. The Frontier is the truck I wish Toyota would have made.
Anyone change out their cabin air filter in the 22 Frontier? I’m assuming I have to completely remove the glove box? This is my first Nissan Truck. Thank you for any advice.
In need of your opinion/ review on the raptor vs f150. Also, AT4x vs Denali. I am in the market for a truck, and only want to buy once, and ride until the wheels fall off. Best reviewer on RUclips!!!!
Just got a 2022 SV with the convenience and technology package. I traded a 2020 Jeep Gladiator in and got 38,000 for it, crazy that I financed it for that much. Ended up financing the Frontier for 35,000 at a lower rate (2.9%) and shorter term (72 months). Over all I am very impressed with this truck!
@ed mig I still owed $30,000 on the Gladiator so the offer of $38,000 gave me $8,000 positive. The Frontier was $41,000 subtract $8,000 from that = $33,000 add $2000 for tags, taxes, and fees = $35,000.

@@brad4527 my friend has one of these that I borrowed, the seats got hot in his but I didn’t check the steering wheel (not sure if his has it)
This truck power plant and transmission are very solid built to last i love mine 2022 SV model king cab 6’ bed great for truck usage or going to the golf course 👍🏼👍🏼 up
Love my 23 Pro4X best midsize truck out there.
I’m glad this truck has a 21 Hal file
Tank compared to the Ranger’s 18. I really like the Tremor just with it was not a turbo engine.
Please, tell Nissan to give us back the X-Terra!!!
I 2nd that. I call it the Japanese Range Rover. Solid SUV!
Lol they’ll bring it back as an EV crossover 🙄
Amen
I'm not a truck person at all but I think this Frontier looks great! Not sure how this lost out to the Maverick for NATOTY🙄🤔
obviously this person was favorable to the Maverick for person reasons. Wasnt even a fair review lmao.
How do manufacturers get away with no back seat AC vents? 🤦♂️
Back AC vents were never a thing until recent years. Now did we ever get along without them ....
@@elizabethmiller7918 tell me about it.
(And I’m a Toyota guy)
This trim is next to impossible to find. There are lots of SVs out there, but almost none with the premium package. Overall, nice review. 👍🏻
Holy crap. That smart key is older than like several automakers in the US let alone most of the Chinese market
Ok
People that go off-roading and hunting in the back country don’t want an auto mode 4wd. 4H and 4L is tried and true. I really hope Nissan does not touch that in the future
Looks like the Tacoma, but hopefully they don’t wait another 17 years to redesign it this time like the last gen.
Your Thumbnail has a red line at the bottom of the picture. It made me think I had already seen this video. RUclips puts the red line at the bottom of previously watched videos also...
Too bad the way that SV is spec’d ( and how I would build it) it’s the same price as a base Pro-4X.
I love my Nissan Frontier , saving for the new frontier
Look in the drivers side wheel well you can see the steering arm and it looks adjustable..i wonder if you could move it slightly to help push the steering wheel out an inch or so?
this is the best midsize truck on the market
Very thorough explanation on this Frontier segment. I'd love to see your truck review for the Jeep Gladiator JT Sport Altitude.
Honestly I’d buy it then because this is pretty nice for what it is
wish the titan looked this good. can't go wrong with that V8 in the titan but the fontier looks way better
Love the wheels and body styling. I got rid of my 2021 Ridgeline and
bought a new Frontier SV. Much better truck.
I think after 23,there will be update added such as a 4 cylinder engine, an optional hybrid powertrain and hopefully electric power steering.
Nissan is the Nokia of automotive industries.
This pick has a siren to find that truck in case if stolen what’s that name of the app.?
Nice review. If I drove more and still wanted a body-on-frame truck I'd trade in my 2018 Frontier Pro-4x. But for me, I think it'll be the Maverick when I do finally trade.
ruclips.net/video/PKw6KCk8Bq4/видео.html
Well then you don’t need a “truck” if you did a maverick wouldn’t cut it.
You're very critical over the silliest things. Things that don't matter. I want to know if it's safe, solid and reliable. Not if it feels like the previous model or looks plain, or has a crease where dirt could go.
🤣 🤣 so true, thats how I feel about basically every review I watch.
He’s a reviewer making a review for the everyday consumer.
The steering wheel adjustment is a deal breaker. Come on nissan why???
You can get them, my dealership said they can add them
@@brad4527 Why would I pay even more to get equipment that should be there from the factory? No thanks! This new Frontier is already too expensive so no one in their right mind would pay even more for dealer installed features that should be standard. I certainly wouldn't.
@@dlg5485 I totally understand. I'm not willing to dump 40G's plus for a Sv either.
I will wait a year for these bullshit prices to come down.
Comes standard with a V6 at $28k so it's still a pretty good value. The Taco starts at $32k with a V6. Although I do agree they should have added pretty basic features like a telescoping steering wheel. That's a huge oversight that is pretty inexpensive to include.
I drive an S model and love it, stop pushing the fancy schmancy all the time.
I think Nissan should’ve put the 3.7v6 from the Infiniti Q50 in the new Frontier. 330hp
I really hope Nissan bring back the Xterra
It looks like you did the 0-60 in 4 HI. Is that correct?
My 22 Frontier best gas mileage was 28.4 mpg. That is car like numbers for fuel economy. Fuel economy like that is incredible for a truck, especially with high gas prices we have now.
Is that what the truck is showing you?
I don’t like Nissan but this truck is surprisingly not bad,I’d still choose the ranger or Tacoma however
Man i just don’t agree with the price.
Very nice update for this truck!
You would have thought that any modern vehicle would have auto up/down on all windows by this point.
Love to See a Nismo Version
Going off road a mid size truck can get into tight places where a full size can't get.
the inside looks like the Frankenstein of Nissan parts bin. but I like it
I think the bed looks a bit to stubby and the fender flairs kinda look like bubbles/ the same as the previous Nissan fender flairs
Great Trucks buy one you ll love it !!!
i prefer regular light bulbs to LEDs that you have to change the whole unit if it they fail
Very Nice Bro! Get Good Drivers!
Really surprised Nissan used the same steering wheel they've been using for years. Why not give the Frontier the newer Pathfinder wheel? Having said that, this truck is a homerun for Nissan IMO.
This is more like a refresh of a refresh of a refresh....
Needs more head room, I'm 5'9 and hit my head on the door seal getting in, if they would just raise it one lousy inch wow what a difference it would make getting in and out.
I am 6' 2" and I don't hit my head. I am also 300lbs and fit nice inside the cab.
I'm 5' 10 and I haven't hit my head on mine.
6:41 What's up with the "MM" comment there? lol.
Bring the engine, taillights and dashboard from the 2022 Frontier to the 2022 Navara, It'll be perfect.
Many Nissan cars do not have a telescopic steering wheel. I don't understand why.
my wife's Rogue dose
I don't know if the Nissan Leaf after the facelift finally has.
It's unexeptable that a carmaker in back then 2021 didn't offer a tilt and telescopic steering wheel.. Every single mini compact car offers it these days so why not a freaking Truck..?
Good review & great Nissan.
How's the 9-speed automatic?
No telescoping steering wheel = no deal.
At that price would you go with frontier or Honda Ridgeline?
Newer Ridgelines look like a mini vans with truck beds, imo
Anyone change out their cabin air filter in the 22 Frontier? I’m assuming I have to completely remove the glove box? This is my first Nissan Truck. Thank you for any advice.
In need of your opinion/ review on the raptor vs f150. Also, AT4x vs Denali. I am in the market for a truck, and only want to buy once, and ride until the wheels fall off. Best reviewer on RUclips!!!!
New car prices are bat crap crazy.
My 2013 frontier 4 by 4 SV king cab was 28,700. I added fog lights for $250.
Were you at gun point? That sounds like a robbery
@@milesruby3271
That price included the fogs.
No gun at me at all.
Prices now are gunpoint level.
@@Fractureless1
The frontier cost you 78k?
Or is my math off
@ed mig I still owed $30,000 on the Gladiator so the offer of $38,000 gave me $8,000 positive. The Frontier was $41,000 subtract $8,000 from that = $33,000 add $2000 for tags, taxes, and fees = $35,000.
