- We do a quick review on the 2022 Nissan Frontier. This midsize truck offers tried and true exterior and interior design that is mostly pure function. The updated truck improves street driving and refinement. Would you choose this over the Honda Ridgeline, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, and, Toyota Tacoma?

One of the better looking trucks in a long time.
That's a fact Jack
Nissan is quietly making good cars again. Happy to see them doing well.
Yo Nissan is da bomb
@@greenbendystrawguy931 yeah and so are their CVT’s! Glad to see traditional geared auto
Nissan has always made good trucks
I see more Nissan Rogues than any other crossover….
@@whoawoahh That's exactly why the pathfinder has a traditional auto again. The Nissan people were stoked about that. It's finally reliable again lol
When Mark said, "I burn out in other ways", I felt that.
My dad's '11 Frontier is a bit rusted but refuses to die at 300,000+ miles. Bulletproof engine and no problems with the transmission. Its main competition is the Tacoma which is a little more reliable, however the Tacoma has had issues relating to seat comfort and outdated engine/transmission among other issues. If Toyota is ditching the V6 in the Tacoma then I'm 100% choosing the Frontier. Nissan is giving you a refined, classic truck that other manufacturers are beginning to lose sight of.
My dads frontier that he uses for work also has 300k. Aside from maintenance, that truck refuses to give out!
I like “ Nissan is giving you a refined classic truck that other manufacturers are beginning to lose sight of” 👍😎 Exactly !!
Well said bro
I think I'd buy it. I really like it, and honestly even the last generation despite being VERY bland, is actually probably the most reliable vehicle Nissan made in the last 10 years. I think it looks fantastic on the outside, inside is simple and good enough, and as you said no gimmicks. Bravo Nissan keep up the good work!!
Nissan: “If it ain’t fix, don’t broke it”
😅
Lol
If it's jatco it's already broke.
@@barrymccaulkiner7092 the old 5 speeds in the 2010 and ups are lazy shifting but pretty bulletproof. 05-09 transmission issues were caused by a defective radiator.

Got this truck about three month ago, it’s my first pickup truck and I’m loving it. I just wanted a true truck at heart and this is totally that.
Great V6, best transmission on the market, fully boxed frame, disc brakes at all 4 corners, nice interior, made in USA, good looks
Get ready for the Toyota guys to come here and say how reliable their truck is 🤦🏼♂️
I have the 9 speed in my titan and it’s GARBAGE.
@@seadoo4life127 It's brand blindness. The current-gen Tacoma isn't very reliable. It's average. And it's uncomfortable for long drives.
@@matthewm3912 maybe you just bought a turd. I just ended my lease with a 2016 Colorado ZR2 eight speed. My transmission was so so. I know people that say there’s are amazing. 🤷♂️
@@littlestinker9716 I’m no hater either. I’m no brand whore. I give everyone a chance..
Great truck if going full-size isn't necessary for your needs/wants. Glad to see they stuck with a NA V-6 instead of a turbo 4-popper, sounds good and I like the no non-sense interior.
I bought my Pro 4X this week. I got one without bells and whistles, and I am really enjoying it. A much better ride and handling that the Tacoma I tested a few months ago.
much better driver seating position too!
Did you end up overpaying??
@@seadoo4life127 No, I paid MRSRP + doc fee + a couple of bs dealer things that were less than 1k, but I negotiated a discount on the 10year warranty because I want to keep it for a long time. Even with all that it was still less than the "market adjustment" charged by most dealers in my area.
@@joakeen what's this mark up crap I saw at my dealership??
@@brad4527 a lot of dealers are marking up. In my city, at least 2K mark up plus other bs.
Reminds of a lot of Suzuki's motorcycles. People complain about a lot of their bikes' lack of new tech and stuff like that, but there's something to be said about getting older tech tuned in so well it works just as good, if not better, than newer stuff. And all that time spent tweaking it into perfection usually makes reliability go up as well.
Nissan makes a darn good truck.
Love the old-school aspect of this truck! It's at the top of my list. I prefer the two door variant.
I bought this truck a couple of months ago after driving a Tacoma, since have added custom Fuel Wheels, Micky Thompson A/Ts and the 2.5 rough country lift. It looks amazing, drives amazing and and I could not be happier with the purchase. anyone on the fence about buying one of these, do yourself a favor and drive it, you will buy one.
Hey, you still have the truck? Still liking it?
Great Truck!! Why?? Old School refined, V-6... NO BS iPad on the dash... And refined instead of the new %$&^$ trucks out there. Great Job Nissan!
And... this is the best car/truck review team on RUclips! Period!
Final thoughts nailed it, good price, no bs gimmicks, usable as a truck(towing/space to move stuff) and reliable. I'm happy to see vehicles like this still
be offered by manufactures who always seem to load their products up with a load of BS.
We keep saying this BUT this could be the last old school small truck from Nissan. As a person who only owns NA vehicles I say thank you Nissan. I will be getting one once my lease is up.
I'm still a fan 1989>1993>2005 still love them no annoying buttons to fuck with and night time driving with out all the buttons
Great review! I've got a 2022 Frontier SV 4x4 and I've been itching to hear your guys' take on it. You hit the nail on the head with what this truck is all about, people like me are gonna own it for a long time and I'm glad Nissan made a truck that feels like the right balance of old school dynamics and new tech and quality.
It’s so satisfying to look at those rear axle shots, pure and simple mechanics, it looks almost like a toy truck but in real size.
Right. The rear axle looks beefy for a midsize truck.
Nissan did a great job.
Good and honest review as always. We're pleased with our Pro 4X and as you note, this is a long term play (own until the wheels fall off)... Thanks, I was waiting for this particular review.
Got a 22 SV 4x4. First pickup. Love it. Completely no BS. Refined and quiet ride. The acoustic glass makes a huge difference. The zero gravity seats are insanely comfy (surprised you guys didn’t mention this). Other than that some would say it’s old school, i prefer “timeless”
Your comments about the ranger are spot on. Strong rental car vibes. Feels like you are in a 08 Escape. Great review. keep them coming
I bought 6(SIX) tacoma over the years from my first a 1991 to my last 2021. If the 2021 was my first...there never would have been another. From seat bolts not tightened to the wrong front springs/shocks installed to blowing smoke on startup and to the lesser disappointment of a mis matched spare tire(the list is longer). When filing the complaints with toyota......yes this was said to me...."if the dealer can't fix it we will just have to file you as an unsatisfied customer".......NEVER another. Is the made in mexico quality control the problem...dont know, don't care! Hi Nissan...nice to meet ya
Mark killin’ it with the humor in this one 😂
Love the no BS old school
I have liked what Nissan has done with their 22 pickup lineup. Sticking with physical buttons for a lot of the features is just the sickest.
First of all, this was probably the best video I've seen.
love the engine and the take off is sweet!
Seats look comfortable
If its one thing Nissan has always done really well the past 20 years or so its their seats.
"I burn out in other ways" I almost spit out my coffee, great line. Love the videos!
I'm not even in the car or truck buying market, but I enjoy every one of your videos. Nissan makes both of my favorite pickup trucks, and I'm also excited to see how the Z performs when you get your '94 Ed. Hard Body hands on one.
Same
Everyday on the way to the Gym I pass by a Nissan dealership and see a "British Racing Green" Frontier Pro 4x with a lift kit.....I always think to myself " I could drive that".
Dude…I’m having the exact same problem right now. It’s even the same color.
Nice to see a nice unbiased, honest review. 😊
Well done review guys. I’ve never owned Nissan before but man I am loving my 2023 Frontier. This truck is the perfect mix of tech and utility. Comfortable, durable, reliable. Thumbs up Nissan 👍🏽
love the dual reviews
Thank you once again for excellent content. Cheers
I’m not a fan of the rails on the rear, but I can definitely appreciate the old school drivetrain and off-road capabilities.
"I haven't had a hard body since '94"
Lol. Mark, you are something else!
Looks like a decent pick for longterm ownership but I guess a Mav would be more for me because a mid-sized would already be stretching what I need. Of course needs and wants...
Cheers guys nice video
7:16 Spin-the-Nissan corner is my favorite place, glad to see it get some recognition.
I bought one. Absolutely love it
I'd pick this over the new Canyon, Ranger or Tacoma. That V6 is reliable and quite potent
Thirsty, though. If I drove a lot of miles that might worry me, but many work trucks only get driven short distances, so that may not matter so much. From home to the job site or farm into town should be fine.
You guys are the best car reviewers and should have 5 million subscribers
Best RUclips channel for vehicle reviews. I don’t even care about this truck and I’m here?!
I have a 22’ Pro-4x in Boulder Grey and love it. 🤙🏻
Btw just admit it, it’s better then the Tacoma.
I Own a 22 F-150 and had i known that the Frontier would have been this nice i would have looked at one first. In my small town im seeing at least 3-4 different ones on the road pretty often. So people are buying them for sure...See alot of Cheap versions vs PRO-4x models tho, only seen a few of the high end ones.
I like the wider lens for the Driving Impressions™ segment
I'm already seeing these often , looks good and so cool it's got a big V6 not a strained 4 popper with a tiny turbo yuk
Finally a Frontier review from you guys
Finally is right
Once Nissan sorted out the "SMOD" problem, the Frontiers and Xterras have been honest reliable (I'd argue just as reliable as the Tacoma) with the mature VQ powerplant.
I haven't been able to drive one of these, but I have owned both the Frontier and Xterra from the previous generation, and yeah the interiors were dated but so simple to use, and everything just worked, and worked very well!
Frontier owner here and the lack of telescoping steering wheel and turn radius are my biggest and mostly my only complaints. It lacks some towing and payload of the Ranger, but I honestly don't need those. I doubt many midsize truck buyers do, if they are being honest. The engine is a little thirsty, but, wow, it has amazing power. The closest competitor on mashing the gas peddle is the Ranger. The Ranger's torque and it's mating to it's transmission are truly great. I'd have bought a ranger if it offered all the tech and backseat legroom the Frontier has. Driving experience wise the Ranger and Frontier are the only really great options. The Tacoma gear hunts all over the place and GM is anemic. I test drove all 4, and I had a Tacoma as a rental for two weeks (It is loud and obnoxious in the cabin, and I could not get comfortable), the Frontier really shines on the driving and ownership experience quality. The only reason not to buy the Frontier over the competition is if you TRULY need those couple extra pounds of payload capacity, or just want to sacrifice daily driving for slightly better off-road performance. Also I guess if you have to have a front locker then you are very much limited to the GM or Jeep, and in which case I don't even know why your reading this.
Grabbed one of these as a rental, it was fun. Felt really slow to me, but I was in Denver. I used to have a 4.0 Ranger from 2007. The frontier felt slower. But I live and drove mine in Minnesota so no altitude issues there. But my ranger got 20 mpg on a good day. When I filled the frontier up, I did the math and got 27mpg. And since it was a rental and I thought it was sluggish I drove it pretty hard. Love these small trucks (although this certainly ain’t small compared to my OG ranger)
I forgot I watched this. I just ordered a king cab pro4x over the weekend. I've never been happier.
Like these trucks, the 's' version is what works for me. Less is more! Whatever you choose you can't go wrong. Thanks for your review!
How is it possible you guys have not hit over a million subscribers yet???!!!
Good simple review from city car guys
Great review. I haven’t heard “great transmissions and Nissan” in the same sentence in decades. This is a truck worth looking into, I don’t care schitbubbles about sissy infotainment and screens and my butt being tickled if I cross a road divider. I just want value price, decent exterior styling and RELIABILITY. Are you listening car manufacturers!? RELIABILITY! RELIABILITY! RELIABILITY!!
the 5 speed auto's in the 2nd gen were lazy shifting but reliable. 05-09 models had transmission issues caused by a defective radiator
They had the sense to look elsewhere for a transmission design since they can't seem to get it riggt themselves. We'll see if it worked in a few years.
@@markmiller3279 here’s hopin. I used to like Nissan.
Yes the 9 speed is a Mercedes unit!
I like the simplicity of the lower trim mid size trucks. They’re the size of full size trucks from the 90’s. Full size trucks now are massive. I have a 2019 Colorado LT trim v6 4x4 and love it. No bs over complicated sensor systems or things that will break. This Nissan looked very nice. I’ll keep my Colorado for 15 years hopefully but if I was in the market I’d check out this Nissan.
"Well, that was a weak burnout"....NIce... Good review
I still got my '99 😂
Awesome video guys !
My Titan is a beast of a truck. Love it !
Love mine!!!! Got blue pro4x like in video. Just a good solid truck
I would love to see an updated version of this as far as Savage Geese’ thoughts on this truck in comparison to the 2024 models that are being released.
A ton of quality of life improvements with out throwing the kitchen sink at the thing, keeping the price lower overall. Great idea imo.
A new Pro-4X was at the top of my list a couple months ago until I saw the confirmation of the new Ranger Raptor coming to America. Decided to save some money and got a couple year old Ranger FX4 instead.
This truck seems very underappreciated compared to rivals like the Tacoma. It's more comfortable, easier to live with (Tacoma owners frequently complain about lacking low-end grunt), and should be similarly very reliable unlike a Ranger or Colorado.
I'm not a truck person but if I was looking for a new truck in this size range, the Frontier would be at the top of my list, over the Tacoma. The upcoming Ranger looks pretty good but Ford reliability is all over the place with their trucks and it may not be a good ownership experience especially for the first new model year.
Hope it keep that way, prices will be always low
My dads 2017 Colorado 4 cylinder has 140,000 miles now, so your basis for unreliability of the Colorado is wrong
@@lifesAtrip513
That rocks! But anecdotal evidence is anecdotal evidence.
The 2017 Colorado has 1/5 reliability according to consumer reports, the 2018 and 2019 models also have the same 1/5 score. Not saying it's unreliable but just less reliable (typically) than the Tacoma and Frontier.
@@lifesAtrip513 bro got a 4 cylinder Colorado 😭 😭 😭
Well think about it, nissan didnt update the truck until last year. Underappreciated because nissan was too damn lazy wasting time thinkng about the next Z. I give no credit to nissan because by next year when the new tacoma colorado and ranger come out, this truck will drop back to the botton of the pile where it has been for over 15 years
I've had that since Dec. Great first truck and the Baja Storm is a solid color.
I hate dealer markup and trying to find a 4x is close to impossible. I got a fully loaded Pro x 48k out the door in TX.

My SV 4x4 loaded arrives at the dealership tomorrow. I'm trading in my 2018 Z71 Colorado. Been a Chevy guy my entire life (62 years), but, with the torque converter needing replaced for a second time, I'm done. Chevy should have fixed this known issue. I originally wanted the Tacoma, but, after test driving the SV I quickly changed my mind and knew the SV was a better truck for me than the Tacoma. Not knocking the Tacoma, its a great truck.
Seems like a great truck.
I find it interesting that you say it rides better than the Taco. Hopefully that's true, maybe it will give it more sales & improve the competition in this segment.
for a medium pickup it has loads of nice features, all standard. But not many options, and it kind of expensive. i did test one recently and it handled nicely and provided a smooth highway ride. Felt better than a truck and more utility use than a car. Happy medium for anyone not planning to tow.
Id be suprised if that 3.8 doesn't last. If Nissan is good at one thing its their V6s, look at all the past VQ motors. This 3.8 isn't some turbo-supercharged-hybrid pos hooked up to a Nissan cvt. Great video as always guys..... love the way this truck looks.
Amen to that.. i owned a Nissan v6 years ago and it was super tough never any issues with the engine. loved the sound it made too
well said and I'm glad Nissan is starting to go away from some of the CVTs. The new Pathfinder for example has the same 9-speed which is a good unit from Mercedes
Still have my 2014 frontier thing is a tank built to last nice to see they haven't changed much chassis side just worried about dependability with the new power train
I bought a 2019 Nissan Titan Pro4x. Put a leveling kit on it with some 33" tires. It's an offroad beast!!
The one-liners in this review are off the charts haha
I actually think this is a well built mid size truck and looks good ! I’m a TRX owner and would really consider this because I don’t like GM and Ford trucks . Great video as well .
The midsize truck segment is really a massive missed opportunity from so many manufacturers. Hopefully the Tacoma redesign will raise the bar in the segment (again).
Interesting you say this. What's your thoughts?
2023 Ford Ranger full redesign, 2023 GMC Canyon full redesign, 2023 Chevrolet Colorado full redesign...all coming. Which means Toyota Tacoma redesign is likely coming 2024.
Tacomas are overrated
@@povertyspec9651 yeah the engine is a dog

Tacoma likely to be a turbo sadly.
My roommate had been debating a truck and this video was why I suggested the new frontier to him
Maybe he should save money to live on his own before blowing 40k on a truck
Looks like Jack was laughing at something right before he got into the final thoughts. He also wouldn’t buy this truck even though he really likes the price. Great review again guys.
So I personally liked the SV 4wd driving dynamics a little better because it was just cozier enough than the PRO-4X , that said the PRO-4X is super cool but I don't off-road.
The only true review that matters.
Love the review! I am a big fan of you guys and your takes on products and the industry.
I've always been a Nissan truck guy and appreciated them sticking to the formula of being simple, reliable and good quality. Trucks like the Tacoma get all the credit for being "reliable", but when you look at the market data it's not always the case. The Frontier has been #1 in JD Power's vehicle dependability study for the last 4 years and has been a top performer in initial quality studies as well.
Oh. JD Power. They hand those things out like participation awards to those who pay. There's also the problem that almost all new vehicles are reliable for the first few years. That just means they got stuff screwed together right.
Looking at Consumer Reports (which doesn't accept payments) reliability ratings for older models finds the Frontier consistently getting 4/5 from 2013-2017. That's quite good, but the Tacoma gets 5/5 from 2013-2016, and 4/5 in 2017. In other words, excellent reliability, even higher than the Nissan.
That doesn't mean the new Frontier isn't better, but given how much of it was carried over from the old model, it's probably not equal to the Toyota (especially this year, while the bugs are being fixed).
My favorite reviewers
I’m not a truck guy, but I think Nissan nailed it with the new Frontier. Nice design inside and out, and modern but without gimmicky screens, controls, and hi-tech features many truck buyers don’t want or need. If I was buying a midsize truck today this is the first one I’d consider.
Nice, honest, informative, relevant review. The new Frontier is a solid offering in the mid-size market. There is a lot to like about it. However, for a “new” truck, it is a bit pedestrian and not class leading in anything other than perhaps horse power. We will need a truck to tow a small camper (2,900 lbs). I am not concerned about the Frontier’s max tow capacity, but I would like more payload in the Frontier. The Gladiator, the Ranger, and the Ridgeline all have better payload numbers than the Frontier. The Frontier will stay on our short-list for being a great all around mid-size truck. I love that you can get a 6 foot bed with the crew cab. But, ultimately would probably go in another direction in order to get another 200 lbs or so of payload.
I'm not in the market for a mid size truck, when that time comes the Frontier will be my first hard look.
That truck is damn good looking and the old school rules
Wow this truck is fantastic, I’m thinking of getting one as I don’t need a full size anymore
How is the turning radius on the frontier? Appreciate the video thank you👍🏼💪🏼
I love everything about this truck.
Physical controls, minimal gimmicks, I like it.
I don’t think it’s dated at all. Most new vehicles are overpriced and over complicated. Simple vehicles need to make a resurgence. The interior looks nicely done.
Two of the main reasons that the new Frontier drive so good are the RWD 9-speed transmission that was designed by Mercedes-Benz and the naturally aspirated V6 engine. Regards.
This just shot to the top of my list for “tow RACECAR to track” truck
Just got my 23 4x4 in that caramel brown color. This truck is fckin sweet. Hits all the right spots, and the 9spd is much appreciated. Proud of nissan on this one
I would love a Savageese review of best used cars tbh
A Patagonia ad before a savagegeese video. Classic
I like my 2019 Frontier so much I just purchased a 2nd one. I looked at the current 2024 midsize trucks and concluded having 2, 2019 Frontiers would be my best long term option. I'm good for at least a decade now. Add my 2018 370Z and I have everything covered until I won't be driving anymore. For the cost of 1 new full sized Pickup or suv.
I think they’ve done it right here. I had a 2004 Titan when they first came out and found it extremely reliable. The exterior of this Frontier is done right and the interior kept simple, but with the expected updates to infotainment. What’s not to like?
Nissan trucks are slept on
@@Tool0GT92 really?
It's surprisingly restrained looking for a Nissan, which is a good thing.
Im waiting for a tune to be put out for it so gives it better toque and gets rid of the overbearing traction control and then it be a perfect mid size
