PERIPHERY - The Walk

- Lyrics:
Reach into the void
Touch the heart of darkness
Reach for the light
Feel the hand of god
The uncertainty of my existence
Can be decided by choice of a path I must walk
So, sick monotone culprit
Come on down and we'll talk about it
Bow down to the gods
Or keep on walking further.
On the cusp of our enlightenment we march
With the sun at my back
I take my first step outside shading my thoughts
and perceptions.
Done from the truth I'll never run
Be it the light or the shadow
I walk in hand with all
Born of nothing
My thoughts are unconditional
And I despise the façade of the original martyr
Deep with the void
Higher
Searching for the light
We leave this world behind
The violent twisting of the fates
The eminent collapse of our current state
Born of nothing
My thoughts are unconditional
And I despise the façade of the original martyr
Deep with the void
Higher
Searching for the light
We leave this world behind
Bow down to the gods
Or keep on walking further.
On the cusp of our enlightenment we march
its called walk because this is a song you can go on a nice walk to
More like I'm sprinting the whole time
yeah its a perfect song for walking and just bumping into evry1 on the sidewalk
Please do not listen to this while you're walking, my friend died because he listened to this
and thought that he is harder than the truck which came on the road
@@tamasmolnar7591 harder 💀
Good lord if they could re-record this song with modern Periphery production and Spencer vox it would so unbelievably brutal.
Well it is happening
@@propagrandma really?
Chase Walker ruclips.net/video/YKAHXMWFhtk/видео.html
I would certainly wanna hear it but...even this record is already dead-ass brutal sounding man :D
Check out Spencer's Instagram .d
Unironically my favorite song to start an hour long jog with. Turns me into a train with no brakes.
I'm new to the Prog Metal scene but 0:24 to 0:36 is just amazing
"New" is just another way of saying "permanent inductee".
yep, sounds like modern Meshuggah
Aye-wull-wunday Maek-muzik that is a perfect way to put it
it's not that impressive
@@benmack9279 yh but it sounds cool, that's what matters
Djentlemen, we have a winner!
Amen to that lol
This song has such an incredible groove to it. This has to be one of the most headbang-worthy songs that Periphery has put out. TRVE PRIMAL GR00VE
the instrumentals honestly sound like they could be included in the soundtrack for Doom 2016.
Fun fact: When a medley of the Doom soundtrack was performed live, Periphery's drummer Matt Halpern played along with the composer of the soundtrack, Mick Gordon.
Also, the soundtrack kinda sounded like a blend of Meshuggah and Nine Inch Nails for me
the guy of the soundtrack and matt are bestieeeeSs
That'd be badass
Well, the composer (mick gordon) is a big fan of djent
It's literally the same style of metal.
Best running song ever, and for that matter, any gym sesh too
ProtestMyHero I just went for a walk. In 0.2 seconds I began running.
This song added 25 pounds to my max deadlift :-D.
...knitting a sweater, baking muffins, watching paint dry... don't matter, get hyped
Oh, I thought these other replies would be something I could jump in on like people recommending similar-feeling songs to you and I could give my own personal input on the matter--you know, for running, going to the gym, and whatnot. Guess I was wrong. No matter!
Vitalism - Pagan Part II
In Depths And Tides - Parallel
Soilwork - Light The Torch
Sorry, can't help but throw a few recommendations your way.
It's a good walking song too😂
4:11 This riff is stuck in my head for months now 🔥
Love all peripherys stuff but the first album is epic! favorite for sure!
3:08 Jesus Christ the drums in that guitar/drum solo are phenomenal
SO!
MANY!
POLYRYTHMS!!!
Don't undestand the ones who say it should be rerecorded. This shit never gets old! Hits hard as fuck everytime listening to this beatuful music
Periphery tonally has improved a great deal since this was recorded. Lol
personally i would love to see it rerecorded just to hear how it sounds. i find the evolution of periphery's sound very fascinating already!
You can hear the meshuggah influence in this track, this is slowly becoming my new favorite band
I feel sorry for you.
Hahahahaha "Scaarleeeeeeeeet"
lmao, fuck that song
@@CircleofShit i feel bad for you. Must be hard being stupid
If people seriously get over Spencer's cleans then you're missing out on some of their best material
@@Calamitous agreed. their new music and it's instrumentals and even his singing are just so fucking delicious
1:27 part is godlike
The epicness of this song brought me to tears... Long Live Periphery!!
it's perfection when the leads kick in over that insanely good rhythm at 1:01
Periphery is always perfection 😊
It's 2019 and still love this song
That build up in the beginning! SO METAL!
1:43 - 1:55 for some reason this is my favourite part of the song.
Nikko Jaca weird, 1:55-2:02 is my favorite part. it's so "fuck you" that it rules.
The vocal phrasing is fucking sick during that part. Also my favorite lol.
2:02 - 2:07 is my favorite part. The dissonant chords in the background, the palm muting riff and the rage vocal give an awesome deathcore vibe
The opening/intro to this song is fucking orgasmic!
This guitar tone is my all time favorite ever . from this album. It is the perfect blend of vintage with modern equipment. I remember researching what was used and I still want an 8 string with some nice Bare Knuckle pickups because I love how how much the guitar sounds. like how we envision the heavy low notes sounding in our heads when we want to write low stuff. From the low notes all the way to the pretty parts, this guitar tone is perfectly crunchy and warm and just in the pocket. The tone is a masterpiece to me.
dont forget the LINE6 POD!
Ya it has this unique feel to it that will always make this album so good.
Is it weird how I've been knowing this album for a FULL year and JUST noticed how badass this song is?
2:31 - 2:44 makes me shiver every time
Love the second album more than anything, but can't beat the rifftasticness that is this album
"Bow down to the gods or keep walking further". People are thinking they are christian because of these lyrics. Its saying that you can either succumb to what you think is greater than you (bowing down to the gods) or to consciously evolve (keep walking further) on a spiritual level and to BECOME what people saying is greater than you. If you really want to go into detail. Thats what I think and I believe I am right.
Totally. Band is by no means Christian
***** They are. Although each member strives not to force that in their music. This is probably the closest they'll ever come to bashing religion.
I've been studying a lot of Greek philosophy and always the smartest philosophers, the greatest minds, have been talking about happiness and how that is the ultimate goal of life. Even the word happiness in ancient Greek has the word demon in it, but back then, demon stood for god(also fairies and all other magical creatures).
The word happiness may contain "demon" in it, but it also means "coming from inside". Meaning that the power is in you and you have the potential. Then, people who understood that were atheists and people who didn't, had to believe in something greater to give them strength. And all that happened 2,500 years ago. I always wonder why religion still exists today :/
Well Spencer didn't even write the lyrics..
Tipsy River nicely put personally I believe we're all God's we only use what like 10% of our brains imagine if we could use 100% we would be .........................👹GODS
This song is great
Pure riffery 🔥
One of Periphery's best songs fo sho
Good god, what an album
EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP SAYING THE FOLLOWING THINGS:
1) ***Insert band here*** copied off of Meshuggah
2) Djent (is/isn't) a genre
3) ***Insert singer here*** is gay
By that logic, 'blast beat' should be a genre. djent isn't a genre lol. Listen to Meshuggah, tesseract, intervals, and this bands - and if you say they sound classifiable by the same genre I will seriously be concerned. Meshuggah is thrash/death metal that uses djent, this is metalcore that uses djent, and tesseract is progressive rock that uses djent - those three genres are so massively different - they just put to use similar guitar tones and rhythm concepts. Going back to my blastbeat comment, it is similar as saying "Satyricon, Oceano, Belphegor, and Pig destroyer should be in the same genre because they put to use an extremely recognizable rhythm and playing technique". Just no dude. No.
mysterioguerero You missed my point... my POINT was that this entire argument about whether or not djent is a genre is silly and childish.
The new wave of "djent" bands are too melodic too even be compared with meshuggah..
AttentionWhoreTroll djent isn't a genre...
Meshuggah copied off of Meshuggah.
Djent both is and isn't a genre.
Randy Jones is gay.
The smile I get when I hear the intro, its fucking amazing
This brings me back when I was fresh outta high school doing crazy shit and now I have to figure out how to time travel to fulfill the nostalgia
theres still nothing like this nowadays, this has so much depth
I love the song.. But am I the only one to realize how awesome all of those album covers are?
This is what organized chaos sounds like. Thats perfect for workouts. Lots of agressive energy focused into a controed action. Like a large alien in a small box.
That intro...
Absolutely 🔥
Arguably the heaviest periphery track released, metal as the color grey \M/>.
agreed. never fully got into this band and only heard their softer singing songs but then i found this song and when i heard the dissonant danza style tapping at 3:38 i shat my pants
A loving priest, a lonely town...
Chvrch burner
Ragnarok
ive been listening to this since 2007 with the original EP.
LOVE U GUYS X
This song is fuckin nuts... Its so bad ass
I scream those exact words everytime I try to drum this freaking song
their lyrics tend to be inspired, and have links to mythology and science fiction.
Just screamed along to this. Nearly killed me.
song is so amazing omfg. groove after fucking groove!!!
God DAMN this is sick.
I thought that Blood Eagle it was their heaviest song. Glad to know that I was wrong
Blood eagle is technically heavier and more aggresive than this song
Don't talk; Walk.
Periphery - Sumerian Records
Capture The Crown - Sumerian Records
There you go.
amazing
Лучшая песня без чистого вокала
Because its amazing!
having to come here because Spotify region locked P1 in Australia over rights disputes. at least youtube has my back :DDD
This track is fucking ridiculous in a good way.
COMO PUEDE SER TAN BUENA ESTA CANCION HERMANO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA DURO COMO UNA ROCA COMO DIJO EL MALPHITE
Man, I fuckin' love this song!!
this song is godly
Great and easy song
This song is nostalgic for me. Takes me back to my sophomore year of high school in late 2011 :')
The Faceless!
This was my introduction to this band
The intro is just as metal as it gets 😂
the end is gorgeous, wish it was longer
matts drumming and i know this was travis orbin who wrote the drums but matts grooves and chops on this album are to this day, un matched. theres really good drummers out there but no one will ever be matt halpern
1:27
2:18
Just wow
That’s one brutal marathon.
What's up gear mortals, Trey Xavier here :D
Thank you friend, feels like I've been missing out.
i've heard quite a few modifications of this song, but all extremely amazing
yes jetpacks was
Good god, how I adore when djent was just an itty, wittle bitty baby!
Way better than their newer material. His voice had way more depth and a darker timber. Sounds thinner now, especially when he sings.
Braaaap
The Mirror
The beginning drum solo-ish....HNGGGGGGGG
I just keep looping 2:40 - 3:05
because they're similar to stuff you listen too, Suggested videos are based off of your viewings.
el basado...saw them play this shit live and it was incredible. Drunkenly talked to Spencer, Jake, and Elliot Coleman(he was their roadie at the time lmao).
Nolly-riphery
that would be a pretty crazy walk...
Only way to know how to dance to this is to contact Monty Pythons Ministry of Silly Walks
🤭
I think i love you bro. you speak truth XD
Mola
Honestly the best song to play when I bludgeon my victims
TOO MANY POLYRHYTHMS
I can just imagine somebody trying to walk in time to kick drum now..
3:56 to end, god damn ma head explode
Icarus Lives, Scarlet! Please see the Light, and find me All New Materials.
Are there any other Periphery songs without any clean vocals besides this one and New Groove (lol)? They’d be my fave band if Spencer didn’t clean sing
Hey dude, what's up. Awesome band with an awesome fanbase right here. I personally prefer this album, but I highly suggest checking out Periphery II. Alot of people like it more, and it's got alot of diversity.
Who tf you talking to, but yes p2 is great
All the album covers look like something done by JJ Abrams
And accurate.:) Don't forget accurate.
They're all atheist and share a massive love of science and the cosmos...
Am I the only one who thinks of Portal when I hear the opening vocals?
This should be Avengers Infinity war Soundtrack 😄
Lol, yes. But everyone knows you just follow the cymbal hits!
Friend just showed me this
Dies from astonishingly badass shit.
in the song
This song just made me take the most brutal shit of my life.
I began to drop my massive log at 0:25.
Dude. I just wanted to go for a walk. calm down bro. Jesus Christ.
