- Lyrics:
In sunshine's view
The absence of love
Behold what's blinding you
Serpent or dove
Between uncertainty
Tethered wings and captive dreams aren't worth the suffering
Open your eyes
Devotion deprived
Deny the very thing that accepted this life is about
Listen to words
Defy devotion
Sick from the fall behind the wall
I demand of you stand up and see
Before they saw what I was becoming
Before it kept me form reaching...
The light
Can't seem to understand it
Can't seem to know
Listen to the vacant soul
The child has lost his way
Tension
Suffering the hole
Something against me
I won't try
Never again
I will not remember
Between the lines I sing with doubt
Behind this will fall
Lost in night and day
Breathing for me
Listen to the way I enter the world
In time this lie will become me
The things I've done to forget my dying senses
Weary from this act alone
In vein six days away
Return from the fall
Just find a ray of light to help me ascend
That is the only way
I used to be obsessed with this when it first came out. A lot of my friends thought it was trash and "ripped off Meshuggah." Twelve years or so later and every time I break into again it hits fresh. Such ingenuity. A real inspiration.
Years later, this album is recognised as one of the most authentic and influential progressive metal albums. Everyone has inspiration, but man, I think Periphery's sound has so much more to it than just "Meshuggah" rythms.
Imagine if they remake / remaster this album on it's 10th anniversary.. how fucking awesome would that be?
I don't see they really need make that, the production still sounds good for nowadays, yes, they improve a lot his technique and and production skills, but i don't see the point honestly.
10 year anniversary tour though, that's something I can get behind (like BTBAM's Colors tour)
Misha said in the Djent Facebook group that it's not gonna happen because apparently P1 is their weakest material live ):
P1 is their only work I could get in to! :( What a shame.
fuck remakes
their best album in my opinion
Eh, IMO it's their worst as it's pre-Holcomb, and he added a lot more melody and complexity to the riffs.
Agreed tbh.
***** I don't really like Misha's instrumentals either, they just don't have enough melody going on to be interesting.
woah until any of you can write better music, just lol.... nvm
so true
The sickest Periphery song. Absolute banger!!
You know what shines? The Sun.
You know what gives us Light? Lightbulbs.
Bulb, thank you for giving us your talnets, Halpern, thank you for........defying the units or percussion.
Ever since Misha said the title was a reference to Light from Death Note the lyrics all make perfect sense :') SO AWESOME.
Dude, im a decade late BUT I NEED THE SOURCE OF THAT INTERVIEW
2:13 listen to this vegan soul, a child has lost his weight
Lmao.
lool perfect
seems accurate
Hence the name of the song. I thought this was obvious.
I'm digging their sound, pretty good band
3:24 The least technical riffs are always the ones that hit harder. Holy.
The chorus of this song always gives me goosebumps, especially the second one, when he hits the high "know" SO. FUCKIN. PASSIONATE. GODDAMN.
10 years late, but yep! Amazing chorus, just keeps getting better for me
Underrated gem right here 🔥🔥🔥
this song is so powerful.

¤periphery &d3athnote, is just 🤌¤
We need this album on spotify again guys
I wan't a version 2.0 of Light with just all clean vocals like Jetpacks was yes. I think this song needs more of it.
7 Years later your wish came true
@@MyTwinFlame and surprisingly, not as good I expected. Spencer's current vocal style doesn't vibe well with the traditional djent of P1, it's too diverse and "soulful". He's 10 times the vocalist now that he was in 2010, but with too complex a style for this.
It's nice to see another individual in this large world knows about the amazingness that is Unreal Tournament.
I love this version
Marina Ferreira I love this version too, i like more Spencer's voice and range overall
no doubt sickest Periphery jam of all time
this song is wonderfull
If this band was an instrumental act then Misha could just run the gauntlet himself, but additional musicians always reward the music with extra depth. This band will never run out of ideas because they have so many guys generating them. How sick would it be if they stayed in touch with Alex Bois and Tom Murphy to get their opinions and/or take their compositional suggestions? I love Periphery because they as a band give each and every member an opportunity to write, regardless of their position in the band
I'm pretty sure that neither Tom or Alex contributed to the album writing wise, they've said P1 was a glorified solo project for Misha.
@@stevetorster Wow, really? No kidding, I could totally see that. Feels a lot like Misha from end to end. Even all these years later this album could potentially be my favorite of theirs. I love the atmospheric nature of it and all the programming that’s intertwined with the music, I wish that was more prevalent in their newer material to be honest. It’s hard to top P2, though. I still like the newer stuff but there’s just something really special about old school Periphery to me
@@FuCkInGWhItEcHaPeL Yeah, I love all of the albums equally, they're incredible! I'm pretty sure that most of the electronic interludes in P1 and P2 where handled by Jake and some from Misha too. I think Racecar is the only song on the album that isn't solely Misha's writing, Jake and Misha co-wrote it. It would've been cool to hear some of Alex and Tom's influence in the material but I can't be too upset with how things turned out because P1 is sick and Mark is one of my all time favourite players.
@@stevetorster Yeah man, they’re all great, the older stuff kind of just caters to my liking more. I was really pleased with Alpha/Omega, that’s probably my favorite next to the first two. I thought I remembered seeing that Jake and Misha did the electronic parts, and that’s sick that Jake at least co-wrote Racecar, he’s awesome and that’s like my all-time favorite song of theirs. I knew someone that saw them play Racecar live and he said Jake took Jeff Loomis’ solo and absolutely crushed it. Yeah P1 is perfect; I couldn’t ask for it to have come out any differently, I just like when other members get to add to the mix. That’s why the Clear EP was so cool because each member had their own song. I also love Mark, he’s one of the most skillful players out there and really helped these guys step up their game. I heard he wrote Scarlet which we all know is incredible and is clearly a fan favorite; that song inspired my love for Periphery more than anything else
@@FuCkInGWhItEcHaPeL Yeah dude! I struggle to pick a favourite because every album is awesome in it's own way. I've seen some footage of Jake taking the Loomis solo on Racecar and he was great. He also plays the Mile Zero solo live that was written by Wes Hauch. It's insanely tough and he kills it. What a killer band.
probably fave metal song
omg
As much as i prefer the prog instead of polyrhythms (or whatever), the 2 early albums are still great. 5 albums and theyre all great
i much prefer old periphery. i do love the newer stuff too but the first 2 albums were just next level. especially because no one was really doing this shit besides veil of maya and no one can do it like periphery could back in the day
Great song!
there best song in my opinion.
Misha said countless times that Matt recorded the drums on an electronic drum kit that Misha had, sampled through Superior Drummer.
Are you sure? I thought it was completely programmed drums? Matt didn't even seem to play these exactly to the record when he first started
@@drumsno Yes this is true. Misha hooked up a Roland kit that he had to his PC and recorded Matt's live performances in his apartment. Obviously the drums were touched up, but apart from that, it's 100% a live performance into stock/DKFH Superior 2.0.
Anyone noticed the melody in the beginning (0:03) is the Terminator main theme?
2:57 The riff
The riff
The riff
Those vocals. 😮
Anyone else think that Spencer should redo the growls on this album? I believe his depth has grown tremendously. Just think it could be much heavier with his range with the low growls. But of course dont even think of touching the cleans on this album.
Absolutely not. His growls on this album are so much better than anything that came after Periphery I
I love the screaming on this album, same with everything on the Icarus EP
Nice song!!!
I'm starting to really like this band.
Me too. I'm a little late to the party, about 10 years late, but I got here. Lol
@@D-Man_Jam same
@@D-Man_Jam I got into Periphery at the end of 2018 I get you I felt late to the party but at least we're here now!
Periphery used a Roland Electronic Kit routed through Superior Drummer 2.0 on the first album. On Periphery II, all the drums are real and were recorded at Oceanic Recording Studios with Taylor Larson. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't spread any misinformation :)
You can
see what you've been
reaching for some they never know what
facepalm mean thank you for this African like album anyway!
This comment just make me love this band even more (:
good music ya i love this band
THE CHILD HAS LOST ITS WAy
why so few views?! this shit's intense! one of my favorites from Periphery!
Djent was new then
@@29subhra Yeah and look where it is now. 🤩
Fuckin love the electronic outro of this song 🔥
I know it from an interview, type "Misha Mansoor of Periphery interviewed by Metal Assault at Thrash And Burn" in the youtube search bar. There are two parts i forgot where he talks about Death Note.
Hate to break it to you but Spencer is the one who fully writes the lyrics and I remember him even saying that the lyrics aren't about Death Note. Still one of the best animes. I just finished it before coming here.
lovin the death note referrences, it pleases my inner anime nerd ;)
P1 remastered please...
holllly shit that tecno at the end
4:54 is F*cking Amazing
rockwell and bop
these guys make the techno breakdown work better then asking alexandria lol
...fucking wonderful.
Matt played on an electronic kit and they sent the midi from that through Superior Drummer
They didnt use a drum machine, they just used an electric kit, and used superior drum samples. And recorded direct guitars as well.
Those cleans , love em :3
Oh my fuck! 😮
My new favorite band
where did u find that out?
He's Meshugging.
ohhh i dont mean that. i mean the music starts from 441 til the end haha whats it called? thankss
❤🎉❤❤❤❤
THAT SHOW PWNS!!!
Hello My friend in Darkness! We meet again after 10 years!
@onemanarmy675 both, sumerian for the u.s and roadrunner for their europe stuff
Soundwave 2013. Fuck yes!
whats that type of music called at the end of the song?
If i wanted more music from 4:50 to the end where would i go? anyone know any artists who play that kind of music all the way through. little to no lyrics?
No drums were all drum machine on the first album, Halpern just wrote them
They did, his name is Matt.
The Outro reminds me of Metal Gear Solid
This is actually better then the original!
For everyone wondering what the 4:50 to the end is it's ambient techno.
Ensidia Music H/C I would call it Ambient IDM
I love it... reminds me of Unreal Tournament 2004
damnit i can't unhear this now. hahahaha.
listen to my words!
4:10 dat D#5 doe.
ProtestMyHero King Diamond can hit that note while warming up and in his 50s
This isn’t a competition weirdo
deathnote...,.... and periphery! god life is fucking awesome
peak djent
Not exactly, they're electric drums, and all midi, yes; but Halpern played them himself.
@TheCatatonicAngel i love both of them lol
Nope, they really used programmed drums on this album. Check the interviews! On PII they recorded real drums, though.
Djent Note
is that so?
4:50 til the end makes me think of unreal tournament lolol xD
01/03/2021 happy 2021
lol sick song
Well, they must have lied in their album booklet then. "All lyrics written by Chris Barretto and Periphery except "Icarus Lives!" written by Periphery and Casey Sabol." Spencer wrote all the lyrics for Periphery II.
it's not really it's own type of music. there's some stuff by Postal Service that sounds like it, but it's not it's own fully developed genre
just remaster this whole album already, i need it! this album is not even on spotify what the heck?! you expect me to go to youtube and spam repeat here? come on....
buy a cd you entitled piece of shit!
@@LMTR14 thank you 😂 😂
DJIZZ
ambient techcore i guess, or jsut ambient. :).
ambidjent :D
AlyHarrizon check out Jake Bowen. He makes awesome ambient tunes for Periphery.
Have you ever seen the top comments and just thought:
"Today is the day I'm going to do it. Goodbye world"
Lousy way to go out.
Bs reason too.
That was my first word
It's name is Matt.
drums are programmed on this album, the guitars are being accented by the stack
oh fuk yea :0 original one kicks way more ass. i think. they should revamp the graphics and tweek the physics to feel more real and release it again xD
Techcore :)
DJEDI, CAPITAIN
@onemanarmy675 Sumerian
Just realized that the songs name is based on Yagami Light from Death Note, Misha is a big Death Note fan :)
Heavy metal music 2921

2021
Ah, well, my mistake, obviously. Thanks.
I know, my bad :D
I thought Periphery used some sort of drum machine on their first album
Superior Drummer 2, recorded on an E-Drum kit by Matt.
btw misha should work on some breakcore stuff
:)
