I was a senior in high school in my car when I first heard this girl from England singing she only wanted to be with me. She was with me while in the Marines during Vietnam. She was with me during long hard years of physical rehab and sorrow and heartache. Then, one day, Dusty had to go away. I'm sorry, Dusty, sorry I wasn't able to thank you for all your wonderful music. But, I could have sworn those many years ago you were sitting next to me in my car and singing this song to a lonely teenage boy.
The first time I heard this song by Dusty was in my daddy's Cadillac driving California's Hwy. 101 southbound towards Disneyland. That's when radio was still magical. Dusty made it magical.
THANK MS MARTINEZ. I ALWAYS LIKED HER. HADN'T HEARD THIS SINCE WAS A KID. THANKS TO RUclips FOR ALLOWING US TO HAVE GREAT MEMORIES. MY SHE REST IN PEACE
DUSTY'S FIRST BREAKAWAY SINGLE. A NUMBER ONE ALL OVER THE WORLD. WHAT A FANTASTIC PRODUCTION, / BACKING ETC ETC. TOO OFTEN THESE TALENTED PEOPLE LOSE THEIR WAY AND HAVE SAD LIVES LATER ON. NICELY ENHANCED. WELL DONE.
She did many beautiful duets....especially one with engelbert humperdinck, marta and the vandellas and that blonde canadian singer i cannot remember name well now...perhaps anne downey
Actually you are correct! Dusty DID own her Philips records recordings. She had to sell the entire library when she had cancer just to pay for treatments etc.!
It's a fabulous enhancement, the composers must have been very pleased when they heard the finished product back in '63. It stands the test of time very, very well. Also, it seems to be a song that seemingly can't be spoiled regardless who records it. One of my desert island favourites for sure.
Dusty forever !!! This is wonderful !! .... Also .... With some of these photos I just realized where my 10th Grade Biology Teacher, Miss Sund, at Banning High Wilmington, CA got her hairdo back in 1965. It was an homage to Dusty Springfield !!!
This is the one of the best renditions of I ONLY WANT TO BE WITH YOU ever produced!!! Adding and layering the additional instruments was a HUGE stroke of genius!!! Thanks lots for posting!!!
Actually I need to redo it and make it much better. I slapped this together and it's very sloppy. I've since earned to put in the time to each song no matter how long it takes so that they are absolute best enhancements I can make. These incredible recording artists deserve it. It takes a tremendous learning cure and there is no manual on how to do it so I'm learning from prior mistakes. Kenn
I hear you, Scott. I’ll listen to it 25 times in a day. There’s just something about this song. There’s a rendition of this song by a guy named David Jones on RUclips. Check it out.
This enhancement sounds superb ! You bet I'm putting this one in my favorites. Thanks again for sharing your expert touch up on this song and all the others songs you have here on RUclips.
As usual just awesome, unique in every aspect, and to think she lacked confidence, it staggers belief. A true stand alone talented star well above her rivals, then and would be now.
Love this clear version and also the accompanying photos. When Dusty left The Springfields I thought her career would be over and then she appeared on our TV singing this song - boy, was I wrong!
Sir, you do amazing work. I am not a technician but appreciate what you do. this is so much more robust than the original. Yet you NEVER lose the authenticity of the original.
Thanks Marc! Glad you like it. Producing these enhanced version draws a fine line between how much to add and yet not destroy the original. The originals are irreplaceable because of the era they come from so I try to do them as artfully and tastefully that neither the original artist , the record company or fans would not be disappointed. That is a tall order for guy with home recording equipment but I enjoy the challenge! Kenn
Excellent work. The 4 x 15" subs hooked up to my Arcam amp really came to life in my living room. Interesting FACTOID - Elton John says Dusty was the # 1 pop singer of all time...quite a claim to make.
This was my favorite song in the 5th grade when my peers & I were having dance parties every weekend. Thanks for your time & excellent effort making this classic even more special to me.
Jean Ryder, the ex-wife of songwriter Mike Hawker, "I Only Want to Be With You" was written soon after she and Hawker married on 1 December 1961, being inspired by Hawker's intense romantic feelings for his new bride. Ryder, who would later be a member of the Breakaways, had been a member of a vocal chorale, the Vernons Girls. Reportedly, she and Hawker had intended that she herself would record "I Only Want to Be With You". Dusty Springfield, approved the song, which Dusty recorded in a late1963 session at Olympic Studios. Jean Ryder was included in the vocal chorale on the session. For unknown reasons, a version with Springfield's unadulterated vocals was rejected. The song was produced using the Wall of Sound production method first conceived by Phil Spector, while the various instrumental features in the arrangement such as backup singers, double-tracked vocals, and a horn section were inspired by groups such as the Shirelles.
Dusty could sing the phonebook and make it sound sexy! Love the cleaner sound of this mix.. vocals up front..clapping hands heard...strings alive..and the elimination of distortion.
You said exactly what I wanted to say! I never heard the hand claps before! And I've always been crazy about the "marriage" of string instruments with rock & roll! Very nice enhancement!
Kenn: you knocked it out of the park AGAIN. Love your work. This is one of my all time favorite songs!!. Here's ANOTHER challenge for you...New York's a Lonely Town by the Tradewinds. i'll be looking for it soon! :) Thanks again to your dedication and hard work! You may have saved radio :) Gary
Gary; I did not see your comment here until later in the same day (5-27-17) I, too, messaged Kenn for an enhanced redo of "New York's A Lonely Town". Seems our tastes are similar and feel the need for this song to be reworked. You can see my full inquiry on 'Cinematic35' channel's 'discussion' page....Peace from The RockinProfessor.....

What a beautiful remembrance. She was a great singer & by all accounts a lovely human being...
Such a great heartfelt letter James. it would have touched Dusty if she could read it. Dusty loved cats so maybe adopt one in her memory.
I was a senior too. Thank you for fighting in that awful war, risking your life every day. 💕💖💕💖💕
2021
Beautiful
It doesn’t matter how old this song is whenever I hear Dusty singing it my day is always brighter.
Same here.
They don't make 'em like this anymore. Music, lyrics and performer blended perfectly.
Absolutly
The first time I heard this song by Dusty was in my daddy's Cadillac driving California's Hwy. 101 southbound towards Disneyland. That's when radio was still magical. Dusty made it magical.
Song requires impeccable timing and superior breath support. Very few singers today have these requisite skills.
What an incredible singer she was. Such a powerful voice.
Damned cancer
I repeat she was most beautiful singer in uk in the eightys but especially a talented woman
Truly old is gold. Miss you so much Ms Dusty Springfield.
Great energy, great voice, great sound. I have loved this song by Dusty Springfield for decades.
The definitive 'happy girl' song! She was the 'jet set' goddess! Died way too young.
I was a school girl, age 15 when this song came out, and I still listen to Dusty Springfield's golden greats today in 2022.
SUMMER OF '64, & THIS IS AN ALL-TIME CLASSIC.------------RIP, DUSTY.

The lady was and still is an icon.
I've just listened to this with the earphones in..... Handclaps, xylophone... WOW!!

My FAVORITE song by Dusty and you made it even more enjoyable for me to hear. Thank you very much!!!

One of my favorites also; Dusty owns this song. Great job Kenn!
Actually you are correct! Dusty DID own her Philips records recordings. She had to sell the entire library when she had cancer just to pay for treatments etc.!
Summer Camp 1969 ''first love'' this was the song.... Dusty what a legend you are🥰😍🤩😘
Your comments about music in today's world are spot-on.
Absolutely love this 😎
Bravo! Gee, it's been 59 years since it came out!

A other great song by the late great Dusty Springfield she had one of the best voices of all time R.I.P. Dusty

My first crush on a rock star absolutely adored her fixed way to young
Outstanding!!

Yes, this is a a great mix with nice clarity. You can really hear Madeline, Kee Kee and Lesley doing their back-up vocals.
Yes, yes, yes, it's so clear
Great enhancement! Barbra, Dusyy, Aretha - my pop triumverate!!
Class act all the way. Dusty, like Karen Carpenter, had a voice that was unmistakable. When you here her sing, you knew who it was.
Sounds Great !
Hi Ken,
Really nice enhancement. One of the great songs from the 60's and
