Lyrics
Hearts gone astray, leaving hurt when they go
I went away, just when you, you need me so
You won't regret, I come back beggin' you
Won't you forget, welcome love we once knew
Open up your eyes then you realize, here I stand with my everlasting love
Need you by my side, girl to be my bride
You'll never be denied, everlasting love
From the very start, open up your heart
Be a lasting part of everlasting love
Need a love to last forever
Need a love to last forever
Where life's river flows, no one really knows 'til someone's there to show the way to lasting love
Like the sun that shines, endlessly it shines
You always will be mine, it's eternal love
When ever love went wrong, ours would still be strong
We'll have our very own everlasting love
Need a love to last forever
Need a love to last forever
Open up your eyes then you realize, here I stand with my everlasting love
Need you by my side, girl to be my bride (Need a love to last forever)
You'll never be denied, everlasting love (Need a love to last forever)
From the very start, open up your heart (Need a love to last forever)
Be a lasting part of everlasting love (Need a love to last forever)
When ever love went wrong, ours would still be strong (Need a love to last forever)
We'll have our very own everlasting love (Need a love to last forever) - Видеоклипы
The singer, Steve Ellis, was only 17 years old when he sang this in 1967. I'm 73, same age as him, and feel so lucky to have grown up with the greatest music of all time!
Wow so cool. :)
Drummer was 15

I'm listening to this today 21st January 2024. This was my Husband and my favourite song in 1969. My Husband of 53 years passed away suddenly January 2023 this was on the playlist at his Memorial and it will be on mine one day when my time is up.
So sad for you but completely and utterly understand. Once heard never forgotten. 😔
So sad you lost your husband. I hope this song continues to bring you such lovely memories.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🧡💙
I am sorry to hear this and I’m guessing you think I’m being shallow. Not at all . Had my own loss too x
Still listening in February 2024❤
I watched my Dad dancing to this when he was 35 years and thanking he was old, I am now a a 57 year old man. Now my Dad dances in the stars 😢❤
❤️❤️
@silversurfer6366 can i suggest you dance in his memory….👏
Losing your dad sucks so much, I'm 35 and lost my dad......I should have had at least another 20 years with my best mate. Hurts like a bitch
😢
Beautiful ❤
I turned 74 last fall. It’s hard to believe we were ever this young. Great Music. Still rocking and rolling.
I know I'm 75 where did the years go?????
Wish I had a time machine 😢
Soon to be 71. I want these times back. Best music and childhood.ever.
Only seems like yesterday but a life time ago gone in the blink of an eye.
I’m 74 in may and totally agree. Didn’t we have the best music and aren’t we lucky to have this technology to keep it going.
17 years old...
This kid has a voice that is on the same level as any great voice ever recorded!
Go Steve!
Agreed
Was just thinking that
Much as I love Elvis ... even he didn't have a voice like this at the age of 17.
My wife died a year ago after 63 years of marriage, I think this song is symbolic of our LOVE and I have been playing it since her death and plan to play every night until I die, 2022 I’m 89 now and she was 84.
My real 5’2”. And yes. Eyes of blue
I’m sorry for your loss. This is a beautiful song. 🥰
your memories of your wife will always be in this song sad to hear about. your loss sir😪
Bless you sir. You still have this song to remember the great times shared with your wife. You brought a tear to a 42 year old burly man
Take care
A true meaning to a great song.
I salute you Sir, you and your wife
When they hit No.1 in UK with "Everlasting Love "they bumped The Beatles off the top!!! Say no more.
No they didn't. Lol. The Beatles 'Hello Goodbye' had been at number 1 for 2 months, and finally slid down with 'the Ballad Of Bonnie and Clyde' by Georgie Fame replacing them at number 1. 'Everlasting Love' bumped Georgie Fame off the top spot the week after that, not the Beatles.
Now that says lots !!! What Beatles song did they knock off ?
@@SuperAnimelover100 They didn't knock a Beatles song off the top spot of the UK singles chart. That's just a tale someone has posted on Wikipedia. They knocked Georgie Fame off the number one spot. The Beatles Hello Goodbye had been at number 1 for 2 months when Georgie Fame took over with the Ballad Of Bonnie and Clyde. Everlasting Love hit number 1 a week later.

I don't know why but this song reminds me of Young Girl too. 2 classics.
Just listened to this on gold radio my mum is bed bound and not very talkative but this came on and she sang every word with me with a happy face
Lead singer, Steve, was 16 years old when this was recorded .... Wow! What a voice!
Yes and what a talent. I often listen to this while I'm cooking and doing my 60s dancing. Never tire of this tune 🎶
Really, was he only 16 ?. I read he was 18
@Susan Midgley Apologies, When Steve was 17, he joined Love Affair and was 2 months off his 18th birthday when Everlasting Love hit the UK charts.
I think the blond girl, was his girlfriend, only kids then!!
I went to school with him..
My girlfriend and I used to dance to this when it first came out.we celebrate 50 years of marriage in may.
Gratulations to both of you!
Congrats
@@chrisguy1790 cheers
Congrats! 50 years. I still remember the 60s and 70s - some great tunes but this one still has quite some punch to it.
Brilliant
The song that never gets old. Great vocals from Steve Ellis.
Steve Ellis
And the song has been featured in at least TWO FILMS!! (a Bridget Jones and one film from last year that was Oscar nominated .. (set in Ireland I think).

17 years old when he sang this ... incredible mature vocals for one so young!
At the same time he has the freshness of the young, totally missing the overcharged pompous style of older singers doing that kind of "big" song.
Just wonderful isn't it. If only we could go back to those wonderful times ❤.
At 17 years old I was only concerned with how many of my freckles had turned to zits. Go Steve!! ❤❤👍👍
I had this played in my mum's funeral on Thursday it was her all time favourite song 💔
God bless.

Just saw it. It was great and I'm not from ireland
I'm 68 we had the best music of everything back then.
Clothes, shoes,. Movies And the best Music everything else
Agree with you. So, Bringing on back the good times! 👍🏴
This music is the closest thing to a time machine you will ever find. An amazing time in music and life in general. I was 15 when this hit the charts and was played repeatedly in our youth clubs. That sounds so corny but life then was so full of expectations, love and fashion not to forget those beautiful girls without piercings or tattoos but with smiles to light up the universe
One of the most uplifting tracks ever - and Steve Ellis's voice is amazing.
Bless him...is he still alive ..hope he knows how much thus iz admired❤
Age 73 and very much still alive
Great song keeps the spring in my step, never get bored of listening to it
16 years old too! Brilliant 😊
Lovely 😍
Now, this is love music! I play it every day for my husband and me, 40 yrs and retired. Life is good, and our old music is still available. Love the girl in this that does the little dance! Everyone who still loves this, give me a thumbs up!!
Hello Pat, How are you doing?
I have OCD about this video
I love this too Pat theres some great songs from years ago not the so called songs they play now they say the words now rather than sing them 👍😘
you keep it strong
You are so sexy
And no one has ever come close to this version.
As a child of the 60's this was one of my all time favorites from that era. Such a timeless classic.
I also liked ' Bringing on back the good times' and 'Rainbow Valley ' by Love Affair,l believe the band were teenagers when they brought out these great songs... amazing!
Yup❤
The picture of your dog is stunning. Is it a Siberian Husky. I had a Siberian, she was stunning, she went to live with my son. She got to big and powerful for me. I'm on my own and she used to pull me over. We lost her towards the end of November, it broke 💔 our hearts.
My dad - the 60's teenager - really loved this one, I grew up with this song always playing in the background ...three weeks ago we lost him - this one's for you dad.

How did a group of such young guy's sound so brilliant? I'm 67 and still love this track. X
Because the sound was already made for them its not their song. His voice does fit the song but the instrument sound was done already
a singer and a backing track
That instrumental track however, wasn't taken from a computer, but arranged & played by real life musicians, and brilliantly so!
The instrumental is pre recorded in a studio by studio musicians , the guys in this clip didn't play any instruments. Only the singer would go to the studio and sing to the recorded music track. The majority of rock bands never record their own music . The music was usually recorded by studio musicians, such as The Wrecking Crew. The band members only used for publicity to sell records
Actually the singer was the only one to play an instrument on the track as well as singin
Am 69 years old and still rate this song as one of the all time greats-long live the 60s!
Damned right Buddy !

If there is such a thing as a perfectly written and performed song, this is it. Can listen to it over and over again.
Isn't it crazy when sometimes we listen to a song that we haven't heard in a long time and remember exactly what life was like at that moment.

And if life was good, it brings back such wonderful feelings.
Because growing up in the 60s-70s we had the BEST of EVERYTHING!!!!
@@sharontesta5720 So true, so true and at the time we took it all for granted, the norm and even at times boring. I believe us boomers as you so rightly say, had the 'best' of everything and I doubt very much it will ever happen again. I also believe that our music such as this one, will always be played unlike the dross they have now.

Born 1959 and proud of it. 📺 📻
Absolutely we had great fun won the World Cup and we felt we could change the world!!
My all time favourite song. I was 20 when Steve was 18, I’ve always loved his performance in the song. I’m at an age now that I hate seeing people in pictures and videos showing them young when I was young. All of us who were around at that time are old now and our time is almost up, for many it is. Our era was so good compared to today. I feel sorry for our kids and their kids, there is so much more shit going on in the world today. I miss our time in the 70s and wish I could live it again, knowing what I know now. There’s a quote I try to live by now, “To have no regrets tomorrow - be wise today” I wish I could be in that time forever.
The stunning girl dancing was Susan Matthews, I wonder where she is now- does anyone know?
The chaplinesque dancer is Delores Schmidinger - famous at the time in her native Holland.
It's such a shame that we don't write and record songs like that anymore. It is so good and brings back so many good memories of my youth. For me, the sad thing about the video is that everyone was so young, and at that time so was I. I'm a really good 75 years old now and my wife of 50 years at 70 is just as good. A person below said to all the youth, "enjoy life - like we did - while you are young", from personal experience he is so right. Turning 50 was ok, turning 60 wasn't well accepted, suddenly after that 60th birthday, time sped up and suddenly I was 75, shit I think it happened when I blinked.
Appreciate every minute of your youth because life is like a toilet roll, it runs out faster at the end - it's so sad that everyone in that video is old now, maybe some are dead. Still a great song
He's is only a youngster. But he sounds like he has lived a life. 👍
Agree. So young, so profesional! 🏴
This was British pop back in the 60s - nothing comes better!! I loved this song - still do!!!

Its strange how we think when we are young and listening to these guys that we will never get old. Warning to all young people listening to this and the sixties music, it creeps up on you without you realizing. My message to you is to try your best to be happy and find a good partner who can share your life.
Oh Gosh! So wise, and true! I was a kid in the early '70's,. We felt like we would soon be in charge, and would make things better. Now I'm in my early '60's, I've lost so many friends and Family. Life kinda slaps one into reality, we can't change the world. Just little parts of it.
blimey that is so true.
So so true. But when we listen to music like this, we’re instantly transported back to the year when we first heard it and are young again: isn’t that wonderful!
And most importantly don’t get tied up about aging. It’s the one thing we all do no matter who. And nothing can stop it. So relax.
What a lovely comment and so true!
I still find it incongruous that such a mature voice can emanate from such a young man.
i feel the same way about The Animals' lead singer
Steve Ellis was only 17 at the time!

Love that intro, too. One of those songs where you hear the first 2 seconds and you know exactly what number it is.

Stunning. Best video of 2024,even though recorded in 1967...hoping everyone involved in this video is doing well.
He might not have done many songs, but what a belter this is, absolutely class!
He had a long career singing his heart out😊
Do some research before posting your nonsense.
The Love Affair nailed it, especially the vocal. Not bad for a 17 year old blue-eyed soul boy. Nice to hear it’s been given a new lease of life via the movie Belfast.

@@richardyoung7415 Hello my friend,how are you 🏴🏴
❤
I'm here because 1969 in Belfast was my childhood. I'm the same age as Ken and lived about 6 streets away from where he lived. This movie means so much to me. It's my childhood wonderful but terrifying at the same time. I remember this song as a child and reminds me of my childhood years, in the streets of Belfast. To be honest the sense of community back then was second to none. We all looked out for each other. That's gone now. No more sense of community.
It definitely takes a village (community) to raise a child. Well done Ken and all the cast of Movie Belfast.
I know exactly what you mean ... and I'm sorry life has changed so much. Keep your faith in people though, you might be surprised ... but keep your guard up as well. It's the way of the world nowadays. 🙏❤
I can't imagine having a such a great community destroyed by religion divide. Did your family leave or did you stayed? I know only so little of history of the IRA, but less on the how communities bonded together.
I visited beloved Ireland 🇮🇪 years ago but I was told to not go to the North because it wasn’t safe… so I stayed in the Southern parts… but I want to visit Belfast so bad… one day I’ll God’s willing! I’m still in awe with this movie #Belfast 🙏🏽🥰🎥😍🍿🙌🏽
It's always amazing when a movie can take a song you've heard your whole life and change its meaning in an instant. Belfast did that for me with this one.
Wow just wow
Great songs never die. They just need the next group of musical players to carry on. Great musicianship. I am up on my feet at 72 dancing along.
I’m 44, this was way before my time but never will there be a song of this calibre again. Greatest love song ever. 17 years old, that’s incredible he sings with so much soul and passion for a tender age.

I can't help but say that the music of my era was, and still is, the best.
Definitely
and always will be no question
Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Beach Boys, Supremes, S & G, and too many others to list, we had the GODS of popular music, at the height of their creative powers. The entire popular music canon is 95% from the 60s and early 70s. Almost NOTHING has been added in recent decades. 👍
@moody bl bold statement. As much as I love 60s/70s music, really good tunes have been added in these past few years
Probably not the most mainstream ones, which I admit are not often excellent
Everyone thinks the music of their youth was the best…..because everything was new to them
This was one of my favorites song in 1968 !'m now 72 and when I saw this song tonight on YouTupe I thought that this was a joke, because I haven´t seen this song for so long and this boy who was singing was just a kid,but then I discovered that this was then and now we are old. Time flies.❤

What a story .. what an experience … soooo good
Omg
wonderful! was he a nice guy?
I'm from America and this is the first time I heard this chart topping UK version from late 1967. Much different from the original Robert Knight production. Most people in the US and Canada remember the soulful and dramatically building Carl Carlton 1974 Top Ten hit. Other major hit versions exist BUT this is certainly one of the best versions ever made....Bravo.
It's *THE* best for me, Jeff.
Agree, this is dah BEST version. Sometimes a cover is better than the original, & this one is proof.
April 2024. Still listening to this awesome classic. Bring back all the oldies. Best music ever❤

He was just a school kid - and so was his band. Knocks spots off anything you dare try listening to nowadays! (without contracting severe head depression).
Steve went on to play his music (which I loved) and I went on to join the army. The music from the 60’s is just timeless . Glad I got to know him and Rex.

I could not believe that this teenager had a voice like that . I am 58yrs gone and I used to listen to this on the radio many years ago . I was shocked when I found out.
What a talent!
Incredible! You would never guess that voice would come out of that slip of a lad!!
Eres muy wapa
Hi Marilyn, I was 12 when it came out, but still can remember it have been a music nut since I was about 8, and as you said it is hard to believe that voice comes from that young guy
This came out in 67. I was 16 and there were loads of great U K groups on the scene. When I first heard this I thought great song but what a singer. Steve Ellis legend.
The Belfast Trailer made me revisit this classic.

Totally agree! I'm 64 but remember this so much! I was fortunate to have a lovely Dad that played music none stop when either he wasn't working or if football was on the TV 😜💕🤗
There was always music playing in our house when I was young .
Great memories 😊
I lost my boyfriend then I lost our beautiful daughter aged 6 years.. this song totally encompasses the absolute unending love I will feel for m both forever
it's a beautiful song and I hope it brings you some comfort, sorry for your loss x
Im so sorry for your loss.
Sorry - just doesn't seem to cut it. I hope that both your man and young daughter are together and loving each other, and most importantly LOVING YOU.
So sorry to read about your loss...everlasting love is what you have and I hope this song reminds you that life is eternal. God Bless.
@@Grogster2007 thank you for your lovely words 🤍
I remember listening to this song, on the transistor radio, laying in my bed, dreaming..... and being soooo happy when this song came up.

That's rather cool. I should know….so am i.
Keep on dancing and enjoying yourself I'm a 71yr old lady, also dancing to this song while I'm doing my cleaning
Steve Ellis I saw the love affair up Hanley stoke on Trent a wonderful night out it's a long time ago . What a voice for someone so young. Fantastic 😍 still listening to it it's the 16th of February 2024 Friday. Fabulous.
One of the best records ever made. Simple as that.
The 60s produced some incredible music. I just did a quick Google search of the charts for 1967 and nearly every song was a stonker. ❤
There's something very real about this song and video, a glimpse back into the 1960's, the performers, the posters, the dancers... unlike the song title, these times didn't last forever ...what a time to be young!
Who is the woman sporting the Derby hat? Something about her moves.
@@gregorydiatchenko8464 I was wondering about her too. I guess you call her a harlequin character; you don't see these kind of characters anymore.
@@cosybully She reminds me of the pantomime characters on the tennis court in Blow Up (1966)
@@hubertvancalenbergh9022 The poster of President Johnson is another blast from the past.
One of the greatest songs ever recorded, Steve Ellis FANTASTIC!!!!
Never tire of this song, brilliant,!!!!!!

I’m still here listening. Time has passed by, my life has changed, I’m older and not much wiser, but this song is a constant. I still love it and it will always be my favourite. Thank you Steve. X
Hello Deborah, How are you doing?
@@Kelly-nm4kw smooth
Nice one Deborah... couldn't agree more!
You are so sexy
Im 58 and im glad i didnt grow up with this garbage music now !!! The 80 s were the best
My heart melts to the music of my teen years. Ohh those memories
I never knew that Steve Ellis was a Lad of but only 17 years when he created this perfect Pop Song. I had always imagined he was much older, going by the quality of his voice. I wonder how many young singers have given their best whilst still in their teens? I'm thinking of Rose-Ann Rheims, with "What'll I do?" Oh Happy Days, the 60s & 70s, gone forever, but they will forever remain in my Heart!
He actually still sings like an angel and performs live! Steve Ellis does.
We played this as Mammy was leaving The Chapel 2 days ago for her burial. Beautiful. Until we meet again, Rest In Peace Mammy💓🙏 Missing you more than words can say. Love you always and forever 💓
Welsh?
May mammy sleep well with the angels forever til you take her place
@@shootingstar2449 She is indeed. Thank you.
@@shootingstar2449 Our Lord has them all be His Side. So sorry for your losses dear May they Rest In Peace xx💓🙏💓
Why are people getting offended that I asked if the op is Welsh? She referred to her mother as mammy which is a common welsh way of saying mother.
This song has been on my playlist forever! Everlasting love! Everlasting joy! Long live the 60's!
It's 2024 and I'm still listening and loving it! 👏💐💕
I'm 74 now and loved these guys when I was a teenager, still sounds good today
I was a teenager in the 1960’s when all this great music came out and I thank my lucky stars every day for that privilege.
Same here !!
Im jealous!!! Jeje
I have always wanted to live in those times. Born in 1984... 35 years too late.

Sadly l did .
@@hindlewalker9330 😀🤣
Im 73 my friend and I had a lift with these guys ❤
He was 17 years old when he recorded that vocal, no pitch correction or autotune back then. Talent, artistry and passion were real once and not an illusion.
Wtf does this have to do with autotune? Why even mention it? Just praise something on its merits instead of tediously listing all the things it isn't.
@@Owen-hg3cu Bots everywhere.
How the hell can a 16 year old sing like this, blows my mind!! Perfect in every way 💖
If u have supportive parents
@@prod6mill.512 No. It doesn't matter how supportive a parent is if you can't sing you can't sing but this guy is naturally talented.
