Being a teen in the 70s, I listened to Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Sabbath, and other big rock bands. I spent this afternoon listening to 10cc, the Raspberries, the Babys, America, and Looking Glass. They were the great 70s bands. I know the songs by heart, and they're more unique and beautiful. And John, Paul, George, and Ringo did some of their best after they went solo.
From the 2:00 point, I was reminded -- "Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. … Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. … And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow” (Khalil Gibran, The Prophet)

No one comes even close to George - the only person who was instrumental in both the Beatles and Monty Python. Even if all he ever did was financing Life of Brian that would suffice to guarantee his place in eternity.
I love how she purposely combined youthful clumsiness along with moments of professional grace…just wonderful to watch. And the boy chase girl ending absolutely punctuated the realism, yet initial innocence of “What is Life”
This is my favorite George Harrison solo song, and some time ago my daughter Sofia who is studying Communications told me that she had to reproduce a famous video for a class of hers. I suggested this one, and she did and she one first prize in her class. We will be forever connected through it.
Auditioned on the top deck of a double decker bus to John Lennon with Paul McCartney there as his recommendation. Probably the most unbelievable audition of all time in the simple but magical Beatle way. Hahaha flaming amazing.
When I first heard this four or five years ago, I thought it was from very late in his career. I was shocked to find out it was from 1970, and probably written even earlier.
The glorious Jazz, Soul, Funk, Blues & Rock of the 60's, 70's will NEVER be beaten for every genre of music. Those of us who lived it knew it was a special era.
For those of you who question the message and symbolism of this song, this song is a CELEBRATION of the "gift" of life! When she continues her dance alongside the Cemetary it is NOT meant to be disrespectful of those who have sacrificed their lives, but rather, her Dance is symbolic of FAITH in the reality of LIFE after DEATH! That LIFE TRIUMPHS over Death!!
We know what the song is about. I'd suggest that no one actually cares about the video. I'd rather see George himself perform it. The dance is nothing to do with anything. It just is what it is.
@@Beth-ve7ob "It is what it is" ??? how original you are. That's the catch phrase for when you haven't a clue. Video is another facet of the song, just like performers present to you during a live show. Go ahead and prefer a 2 dimensional piece of art. I prefer 3 myself, as do most people.

So many people see The Beatles as John and Paul, but he had such a profound influence on that band. Most of my favorite Beatles songs are actually the ones that he wrote. Just an amazing, amazing human being.
George was a wise man. He was independent and had a mind of his own. That allowed him to write and sing such good tunes, like this one. Here Come The Sun will not be matched.
I get the art of the video. Youth wonders about the meaning of life as independence is gained (symbolized by the girl leaving home). Leaving the playground behind she ponders death in the cemetery and celebrates (not fears) its inevitable rapture. Then the inexplicable chemistry erupts as she encounters love. This is true to George Harrison's spirituality.
That is a great take on the video. The song could have been a Beatles song (instead of a solo effort), as GH wrote it while still in the Beatles! Shame it was ignored by McCartney and Lennon
Simple words, heartfelt joy, radiant optimism, pure love, I swear I run brimming with sheer joy whenever I play this beautiful tribute to unrequited love.
1:42 song says "what is life" while the girl dances in front of dead people buried in the background. Thank you for doing justice to the song, couldn't have done better.
I didn't wish to be morbid. But my comments were meant to celebrate life when at the moment there is little around. But keep on going. There is no alternative.

Love this video. It not only captures George Harrison's beautiful soul, but also pays tribute to his love of nature (landscaping, in particular). What a wonderful way to honor such a remarkable human being.
Hearing this when young and now seeing it with a lovely young girl dancing reminds me of very sage advice...."Dance in the sunshine while you may. Dance without the pain of age, and remember this moment. Store it in a special place in memory....for there will come a time when recalling that moment will be priceless".
She's so perfect !!! She makes me think of the innocence of youth love and the joy of living. We're more blessed than we actually think we are, Life is only about love, nothing more.

Paul & John recognized George's guitar talent IMMEDIATELY, hiring him as the LEAD guitarist when he was only 15. It took a while for them to see he had WRITING talent as well, but they DID.
George joined the Quarrymen on 6 February 1958 - he was not quite 15 (his birthday is at the end of the month). Paul recognised George's talent as a guitarist immediately and introduced him to John. George did become a superb songwriter but much later than John and Paul. John was 17 and Paul was still 15 when George joined the group
martha george was an extraordinary talent but they main reason he was hired was because he knew all the chords to a popular song of the time that john and paul hoped to play at gigs
Actually, George had a tough time getting his songs on records. He was a friend of Paul's from school and John thought he was too young to be in the band. Paul had George play some song that was considered difficult at the time and that sold Lennon. By the time the Beatles broke up, George had enough material for his first solo album. Most of what was on it were songs John and Paul weren't interested in recording
This sweeping anthem is one of the very best songs George wrote, simple a couple of cords, but a melody, strings and horns texturing the brilliance followed by a joyous chorus. Who am I without you by myside! It doesn't get any better!
Thank you Richard: definitely a great song! ... one my favorite. Now, about the chords, I love to play guitar while the song is playing : I can tell you there are actually seven chords.
When the Beatles broke up in 1970, the event pulled the rug out from the world's feet. In comes George Harrison with his masterpiece, "All Things Must Pass," to help us get through the loss. The magic involved with this song, my favorite Harrison record, is this...he makes something so instrumentally big sound light as a feather. This is a labor of love from start to finish. George Harrison was the ultimate peacemaker and I will always love him for it.
Its too bad the Beatles couldn't have held together long enough for a second "White album" in 1971, with songs from All things Must Pass, It Don't Come Easy, Imagine and Ram.
I love this! My inner teenager woke up watching this. Someone commented, "We all know what the song means." Apparently, not everyone does. Musicologists, Harrison biographers, philosophers, and theologians continue to debate it. I find the dance a touching interpretation. We leave home go out into the world, explore its playground, find others, and realize that death is another part of life. After all, this song appears on George's Album, "All Things Must Pass".
The only other thing I could add to your summary is, after finding another, she runs off (with her new found soul mate?) towards the future on their youthful journey as the song ends.
This is such a positive and witty piece of writing. I've said that I wish that I could have written Layla and these lyrics are right there with it. Strange how they were both loved the same woman.
James Smith Except that Lennon & McCartney had each other to help out. George not only had to write his songs alone, he had to do so in the shadow of one of the greatest songwriting teams in history. As a solo artist, the best of his work easily holds its own with anything John & Paul did after the band broke up.
Not only did he have to write his own songs, but George Martin, who was gunning for the "hit makers", had a certain prejudice against his song writing abilities in the early days. Also his contractual arrangements with Dick James etc. were poor ( eg. "Only A Northern Song"). Had a great education tho' and he did write some classics with the Beatles.

He was humble and beautiful. I love the Beatles but GH was special and the best. He was also part of the best Super Group ever! The Traveling Wilbury's. His official name was Nelson Wilbury. Or Spikey Wibury. there are no official records of the name changes.
The question is......Do you love Jesus Christ and trust in him for the forgiveness of your sins? that is the question for all eternity and location, location, location. Heaven or the lake of fire on judgement day.
Since George was always kept in the background while a Beatle, once they went on their own I believe that George was the best song writer of the bunch. His songs are spiritual and magic; I can listen to them over and over and love them more each time.
By his own admission, he never had a writing partner and got a late start but in my view, he was responsible for such high quality music and lyrics he eclipsed Lennon/McCartney. What a loss to lose him.
Everyone should watch The Beatles: Get Back. It's probably a masterpiece. It details how talented the individual members of the Beatles were - George included, even as the youngest. Yoko Ono didn't break up the Beatles. They broke up because they all had too much creative energy to be contained in one band. Especially after 10 years of ridiculous success.
When I was a kid, Paul McCartney and Wings was all over the radio. I developed a penchant for “silly love songs”. When I went to college, I became a Beatles fan. Never thought about George a lot. In my 50’s I discovered this song again. New found love for George
I've probably watched this video 100 times. I've always loved the song, but the video is so beautiful. It always lifts my spirits. I hope the dancers know what an amazing job they did !!!
James, that is just a super cool thing for you to say!! Whoever set this up did a GREAT job all the way around. Choreography, casting, costumes, perfect demonstrtion of the message of the lyrics.
Spot on.
That is a great take on the video. The song could have been a Beatles song (instead of a solo effort), as GH wrote it while still in the Beatles! Shame it was ignored by McCartney and Lennon

George's lyrics can often be read as a prayer as well as a romantic love song. This is a prime example.
Paul & John recognized George's guitar talent IMMEDIATELY, hiring him as the LEAD guitarist when he was only 15. It took a while for them to see he had WRITING talent as well, but they DID.
You do know that Paul knew George before he met John?
George joined the Quarrymen on 6 February 1958 - he was not quite 15 (his birthday is at the end of the month). Paul recognised George's talent as a guitarist immediately and introduced him to John. George did become a superb songwriter but much later than John and Paul. John was 17 and Paul was still 15 when George joined the group
martha
george was an extraordinary talent but they main reason he was hired was because he knew all the chords to a popular song of the time that john and paul hoped to play at gigs
He only became as good a writer as they were in 1969.
Wooowwww... wonderful choreography!!! Awesome dancers!!! This song is iconic!!!
Now, about the chords, I love to play guitar while the song is playing : I can tell you there are actually seven chords.
you can also thank Phil Specter for much of the sweeping anthem.
@@phishfearme2 No one should thank Phil Specter for ANYTHING, as he is a murderer. George needs only George to be good.
Always play the Beatles songs but best of all I loved John lennon songs he is greatly missed best singer Beatles
Quite a few chords actually! And some pretty quick chord changes!!! Not a beginner song for sure!!! I also love it!!!
Definitely one of Georges best songs. He was so talented and so missed.
Mega Talent. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🇩🇪
I love how the chorus propels this song to the next gear, just makes you feel so good...
No doubt
His best IMO. And the best song by a Beatle after they broke up.
George Harrison was the ultimate peacemaker and I will always love him for it.
well said don,rock on brother!
Its too bad the Beatles couldn't have held together long enough for a second "White album" in 1971, with songs from All things Must Pass, It Don't Come Easy, Imagine and Ram.
Amen. Beatles forever; George forever.
My sweet Lord what is life are better than other of what the other put out they all were good but those two. I. Think in my opinion where the best
Dilute the Beatles by four and you STILL get great music. Try doing that with any other group.
I am so jealous of George’s talent. What happiness he has delivered to us!
THIS song and this young lady are, simply put, a message of hope for virtually everything good about life!
Excellent interpretation. I saw similar progression from little uncoordinated girl to mature lady falling in love.

This song was just one of his finest recordings. He was the best when it come to writing music
I've always said that John and Paul could not hold a candle to George when it came to songwriting.
Yes you told the truth there Argyle Groove I always did like George's music over anyone else in the Beatles
James Smith I agree, if he wouldn't have been a late bloomer he would have been, overall, just as good
James Smith Except that Lennon & McCartney had each other to help out.
Can't watch this too often. Tears and joy. Being human.
Genau das fühle ich auch, wenn ich diese Musik höre und das Mädchen sehe. Gruß Roland.
I know 😢

When this song was released I realized George Harrison was the best Beatle. Also, I do not know what or where this video is from, but it makes me happy. Her dance of life is beautiful and pure. 5 thumbs up!
Edit: If you look a few comments below it explains everything.
My favorite Beatle.👍👍
There is no best Beatle in my opinion. I wouldn’t want to change one ingredient in the sauce.
He was humble and beautiful. I love the Beatles but GH was special and the best. He was also part of the best Super Group ever! The Traveling Wilbury's. His official name was Nelson Wilbury. Or Spikey Wibury. there are no official records of the name changes.
@@edgarrodriguez2332 "I'm stirring it, I'm stirring it." Goodfellas.
@@lonniemcguire1343 lol, you have to stir the sauce...
My son and I danced to this at his wedding this past December. It was a crowd hit! We love George Harrison! Memmories!♥️
How beautiful is that? Thanks so much for the idea, when my daughters get married I'm going to make a very strong suggestion! :)
How wonderful!
The question is......Do you love Jesus Christ and trust in him for the forgiveness of your sins? that is the question for all eternity and location, location, location. Heaven or the lake of fire on judgement day.
Love it!!
@@JohnSmith-uy7sv The question is.........what does that have to do with this video.Religion is a private thing to many people including me.
Since George was always kept in the background while a Beatle, once they went on their own I believe that George was the best song writer of the bunch. His songs are spiritual and magic; I can listen to them over and over and love them more each time.
I listen this song over and over. Cant help it.
By his own admission, he never had a writing partner and got a late start but in my view, he was responsible for such high quality music and lyrics he eclipsed Lennon/McCartney. What a loss to lose him.
@buzz magister Extremely well put! :)
Esher Demos are the proof. He's my favorite.
SAME!!!!
One of the best songs in history.
I've probably watched this video 100 times. I've always loved the song, but the video is so beautiful. It always lifts my spirits. I hope the dancers know what an amazing job they did !!!
@@shellywilcox4262 Well the estate of George Harrison sure does! And I also keep returning to watch this video, they're so great!
Of all the Beatle's works .. why is this particular song so impactful? Thank you George Harrison.
It's a masterful composition and infectious beautiful melody
It's a solo hit isn't it? We're any of the other Beatles involved with this song?
I believe-
It's because it was from George's heart.
Because I believe
It was written from George's ❤️
X
It is not a Beatles song although it IS a song from an ex Beatle.
My wife and I have been married for 25 years, and this has always been the song that catches up all of how I feel about her.
Awww that's lovely ☺
James, that is just a super cool thing for you to say!! Whoever set this up did a GREAT job all the way around. Choreography, casting, costumes, perfect demonstrtion of the message of the lyrics. The Beatles and this young ballet lady from San Francisco are a gift from God. ruclips.net/video/cK5G8fPmWeA/видео.html
Give it another 25.
This song, along with the video, makes me happy for some reason 🙂
Kinda just melts everything away
I think this music video goes well with the song. This girl is enjoying herself, making the most of her life, and then she makes a friend who has enjoyed himself as much as she has... This music video is truly awesome and has my respect...
R.I.P George Harrison 1943-2001
Maybe
R.I.P George Harrison
What a haunting voice George has. It reaches into your soul.
William Holden
And beautiful, dark, dark brown eyes that reach into the soul
Emma Rubinowitz and Esteban Hernandez were with the San Francisco Ballet as part of the "Corps de Ballet" at the time.
They had lots of practice at interpreting music when this video was made.
Thankyou George for giving me music like this. We still love ya.
I simply love this song and video!!! I can't even explain why. The young gal dancing is superb! Something about the way she dances. A touch of youth. A touch of innocence. A touch of simplicity yet complicated. A time of joy and happiness!!! Beautifully done; thank you!!!
Well said! I love that Olivia and Dhani Harrison were involved too. Also makes me think of my dancer/daughter who is living abroad now.
Well said! There is so much emotion and energy in this video!
Great song
The fact that there are still recent comments proves how amazing this song is.
