Somebody on RUclips said she had a weak small voice..Are you Kidding??. Here she is at almost 50 and hitting all the notes with power... This woman was a powerhouse. This is not an easy song to sing. But this is the Great Dusty Springfield, almost without peer, so versatile, with her smoky melodic voice. And a charismatic performer. Her smile lights up any room...simply superb.
Yea, very good but in this example she didn't hit all the notes with power. When she'd sing, "You started something...." she showed weakness during the word started.
@@lazurm considering her health and lifestyle, its a miracle her vocals where as good as they were! Really they were good the song just needed lowering a bit more and perhaps have some convenient longer instrumentals (delay and reverb would have helped to).
Well said jjs499 . Powerful woman for decades...unmatched musical icon. A shame about her mental illness issues but may have been catastrophically misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed. Of course mostly from early childhood family of origin stuff. Ie.Crappy early childhood !!. What it took to triumph over that. No small feat Thats not all ,.Also triumphed over addictions from trying to self treat , self medicate. Her doctors and therapists etc.failed her for years especially at the beginning. All the time, she's performing on live stage or TV To thousands, millions and having to deal with the nonsense from recording company's misogynists in trying to produce albums that would sell. Not many pop rock artists survived this era. She was truly a magnificent ,courageous fighter to survive it all. Dusty is a great role model for many reasons. For such a quiet, shy convent school girl what an incredible life albeit unmercifully shortened much too early. Thankfully, we have so many performances, interviews and documentaries preserved on youtube to continue to enjoy and keep her alive. FOREVER DUSTY !!!
How 19 people could vote thumbs down is besides me. Dusty had that sexy sultry voice that set her apart from the others. Loved her music then and still do. Rest in Peace Dusty with Ritchie Valens Whitney Houston,Elvis and way to many to list.Micheline Kribs. Rolla,MO Oh she wan't feeling well when she did this performance and died from cancer.
I was very shy growing up. I loved the 60's, the music was the best, there was so many good songs, but there was one song that got me up to dance, when nothing else would because of my shyness and that was dusty Springfield's song I only want to be with you! I do not know why, I guess it was inspirational to me and it helped me to get up, the power of one song to do that for me, it brings tears to me, I remember Paul McCartney saying once music can do that! Whoever wrote that song thank-you you helped me! I am now 71 years old, and I still feel the same, the song gives me positive energy to do anything! Love wendy
You've just described my own story too. I'm 67 and will never forget how this song used to make me so happy and in the mood to carry on my days back in the sixties. How lucky we were to be young back then and having had the chance to listen to those types of songs.
Thanks so much to this kind woman for sharing how she liked this song too! Love you for writing me back! Had such a good beat! It sure helped me " the power of music", love to you, wendy

Dusty Springfield is for me right up there with Patsy Cline & Judy Garland. They were all powerhouse female vocalists, and imitators will always be just that. A tremendous artist who remains one of a kind!
A great, great song that never stops making you feel good. The background vocalists are awesome and Dusty turning around to acknowledge them is a nice touch. Most amazing, some of the background musicians weren't even born when this tune hit the charts. Not everyone has the talent to bridge generations. Rest in peace fine lady.
Especially after she had gone through years of wilderness musically, mental illness and stopped singing/creating for so long... I‘m reading her book Dancing With Demons. It’s heartbreaking, but makes this comeback all the sweeter
That was great! At least we still have the records. Dusty, you could do anything but I'll always remember you as the first real rock'n'roll chick out of England. Such soulful singing!
This one, her first hit, never seems to get old! Love how she takes note of the brass & strings sections & then acknowledges those awesome backup singers. Looks like she did something we couldn't see while the strings were soaring to make the pianist & back up singers smile. Personality, grace & talent beyond measure.
@Gazzara5 yes, I noticed. but it was not the illness. She was always second guessing and doubting herself and trying to correct or cancel what she thought was wrong. It's sad, because it sounds so perfect to us now. In recordings, that led to a lot of really great songs that were not released or rediscovered until many years later because she would not allow it or fired the producer. Live performances like this were a real trauma for her. So when she does not hit the note, she clutches her throat instinctively in an effort to fix it.
