How 19 people could vote thumbs down is besides me. Dusty had that sexy sultry voice that set her apart from the others. Loved her music then and still do. Rest in Peace Dusty with Ritchie Valens Whitney Houston,Elvis and way to many to list.Micheline Kribs. Rolla,MO Oh she wan't feeling well when she did this performance and died from cancer.
Somebody on RUclips said she had a weak small voice..Are you Kidding??. Here she is at almost 50 and hitting all the notes with power... This woman was a powerhouse. This is not an easy song to sing. But this is the Great Dusty Springfield, almost without peer, so versatile, with her smoky melodic voice. And a charismatic performer. Her smile lights up any room...simply superb.
Yea, very good but in this example she didn't hit all the notes with power. When she'd sing, "You started something...." she showed weakness during the word started.
@@lazurm considering her health and lifestyle, its a miracle her vocals where as good as they were! Really they were good the song just needed lowering a bit more and perhaps have some convenient longer instrumentals (delay and reverb would have helped to).
Well said jjs499 . Powerful woman for decades...unmatched musical icon. A shame about her mental illness issues but may have been catastrophically misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed. Of course mostly from early childhood family of origin stuff. Ie.Crappy early childhood !!. What it took to triumph over that. No small feat Thats not all ,.Also triumphed over addictions from trying to self treat , self medicate. Her doctors and therapists etc.failed her for years especially at the beginning. All the time, she's performing on live stage or TV To thousands, millions and having to deal with the nonsense from recording company's misogynists in trying to produce albums that would sell. Not many pop rock artists survived this era. She was truly a magnificent ,courageous fighter to survive it all. Dusty is a great role model for many reasons. For such a quiet, shy convent school girl what an incredible life albeit unmercifully shortened much too early. Thankfully, we have so many performances, interviews and documentaries preserved on youtube to continue to enjoy and keep her alive. FOREVER DUSTY !!!
I was very shy growing up. I loved the 60's, the music was the best, there was so many good songs, but there was one song that got me up to dance, when nothing else would because of my shyness and that was dusty Springfield's song I only want to be with you! I do not know why, I guess it was inspirational to me and it helped me to get up, the power of one song to do that for me, it brings tears to me, I remember Paul McCartney saying once music can do that! Whoever wrote that song thank-you you helped me! I am now 71 years old, and I still feel the same, the song gives me positive energy to do anything! Love wendy
You've just described my own story too. I'm 67 and will never forget how this song used to make me so happy and in the mood to carry on my days back in the sixties. How lucky we were to be young back then and having had the chance to listen to those types of songs.
Thanks so much to this kind woman for sharing how she liked this song too! Love you for writing me back! Had such a good beat! It sure helped me " the power of music", love to you, wendy
@@wendysickinger4172 Thanks Wendy!! You´re right, we must always say "Thank you" to Dusty for recording this song and showing so much happiness on the video that shows her dancing and singing it. The same goes to the composer of the song who was so inspired when he wrote it. I have a very interesting story about how this song first came to me. Such a simple story that I never told anyone before. If you´d like to know, I can tell it to you right here or even by mail if you think it´s better. Best Regards!!
@@wendysickinger4172 I'll tell you. Just give me three or four more days. Remodeling my house's kitchen has been taking some of my time and getting me kinda busy. Regards to you Wendy!!
A great, great song that never stops making you feel good. The background vocalists are awesome and Dusty turning around to acknowledge them is a nice touch. Most amazing, some of the background musicians weren't even born when this tune hit the charts. Not everyone has the talent to bridge generations. Rest in peace fine lady.
That was great! At least we still have the records. Dusty, you could do anything but I'll always remember you as the first real rock'n'roll chick out of England. Such soulful singing!
Especially after she had gone through years of wilderness musically, mental illness and stopped singing/creating for so long... I‘m reading her book Dancing With Demons. It’s heartbreaking, but makes this comeback all the sweeter
Dusty Springfield is for me right up there with Patsy Cline & Judy Garland. They were all powerhouse female vocalists, and imitators will always be just that. A tremendous artist who remains one of a kind!
This one, her first hit, never seems to get old! Love how she takes note of the brass & strings sections & then acknowledges those awesome backup singers. Looks like she did something we couldn't see while the strings were soaring to make the pianist & back up singers smile. Personality, grace & talent beyond measure.
What a triumph this show was for her. Wonderful job all around. Very enjoyable show to watch after what ? 30 years later!? Wow ! Incredible ! Way to go, Dusty ! Youre the best !
On this day in 1964 {May 10th} Dusty Springfield performed "I Only Want To Be With You" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... Four months earlier on January 25th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #12 and spent 10 weeks on the Top 100.. It reached #4 in the United Kingdom and #6 in Australia... Sadly, Dusty Springfield passed away on March 2nd, 1999 at the young age of 59... R.I.P. Ms. Springfield and Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}...
Cannot love her enough. From her early days in the Springfields to her debut single to her final single "Roll away" Dusty will always be a cut above the rest
What a fabulous voice and fabulous personality! I'd give an arm and a leg to have been there and met her!! Did the audience realise just what a treat they were in for? I'm jealous. She's a diamond lady!
Now how many singers can sing a hit they had almost 30 years prior and sound so great? Not many. Wonderful job by Dusty, who I'm sure would have preferred to sing one of her more recent hits. But being a sport, gave the song requested of her, her first solo hit. A perfectly charming performance with great backing vocals, that pleased her!
She was still fabulous, with the cancer on hold. She did an album in the early nineties, then got sick again and died in 1999. Dusty was one of a kind. Such a presence up on the stage with her soulful voice.
What a beautiful voice this beautiful lady had! And not only that she was so elegant knew how to dress well and had her hair well done and nice to see. Real talent cannot be faked, Dusty had it and all her songs prove it.
Listen, all ye who halfway functioning ears. I was knocked out by this live performance! She sang this song at the same level of power and intensity as her original performance. I first was trying to watch her lips to try to figure out if the song was mimed. The backup and instrumentalists also nailed the original version to the letter. Just incredible!
Always loved that song, even when I first heard it in the 60's. Well written, great Melody, and the absolute best vocalist singing it!! God Bless Dusty Springfield!! 🎵💖
Mary Isobel Catherine Bernedette O'brien came up with it. Only joking. Think Mary was tagged by someone as a child with the nick name "Dusty" as she played sports outside and got dusty at times. Years later, The Springfields singing group came up with the name Springfield for their 3 piece band after singing in a field on a spring day. Or so the story goes.
Thankyou for this fantastic video and music.Just wonderful to watch as 'Dusty moves' and sings so easily.A real voice and accompanied by beautiful instruments as backing and the great piano sounds. You couild really enjoy this.It just envokes a happy kind of love in music. So many young are missing out on 'real music and brught performers.Cheers from John.
Wow! Dusty still had a gorgeous singing voice at nearly 50 years-old! What a fantastic singer!!!! R.I.P. Dusty Springfield.
The late, great Dusty Springfield, still fabulous.
It ’s an unforgettable song for Dusty Springfield...It's a masterpiece that has been passed down through the ages.

Yes, indeed, she knew the song was being "nailed" and turned in joy, I believe to acknowledge her backup.
Love the violins orchestral bridge!
She actually was telling the background vocals they was to loud and overpowering her.

So true. She was such a champ in this. One of a kind voice, no doubt.
This came on TV around the same time Samantha Fox did a cover of this song. I think she actually did a 1/2 decent job.
Oh stop it!!. You're saying that because you're in love. Hang on a minute! So am I! Good work soldier. Carry on.

And I think it is in the original key. Rare to see a performer years after the hit is released singing a song in it's original key.Brava Dusty.
My mistake. It's actually a half step down from original key. Still works very well in that key.
