      @@darylsledge1456 Yes, I think there were some very gifted overseas female singers back in the day, Teresa Teng (Taiwan) Brenda Lee, (USA?) Mireille Mathieu (France) and today I think Helen Fischer (Russia/Germany) is superb. But Dusty was quite unique and I believe most Americans at first thought she was a Black singer.

    Greetings from The UK! Dusty has been my favourite female singer of all time, since i was a child during the Mid 1960's and when we lost her, back in March of 1999, it was, for me, one of those JFK assassination moments, where i remember exactly what i was doing. I was 37 years old and I was chopping up carrots for mine and my dear late husband Tony's dinner, whilst waiting for him to return home from work and when i heard the sad news on BBC Radio 2, i burst into tears and i had to stop what i was doing, until i could compose myself enough to continue. We had heard on the news, she was very ill, but it still came as a shock. This has been the only time, i ever shed tears over the passing of someone famous. who i had never even had the pleasure of ever meeting. Thank you for sharing this lovely tribute, to a lovely lady. She has left all of her beautiful music for us to continue to enjoy. Rest in peace, dear Dusty. xxxx

My late interest in singing and retro music as an adult already has led me to appreciate her as a singer and then as a person when I sought knowledge about her life and career. My only sorrow is that I might be the youngest Dusty fan in the world. Please don't let that be the case, my generation deserves (and desperately needs) good music. The recent passing of Tom Springfield got me exploring Dusty, and what a great starting point THIS is! I'm in the U.S. and didn't really have much exposure to Dusty unless I made an effort. Ours is a pretty big country, so she may have been bigger in regions other than the one I was in during the '60s. But I do clearly remember telling a kid I was with "Shut up!!!" the first time I heard her voice. It was the most beautiful voice I had heard since Judy Garland. At my young age, I was buying singles. Of course, there was an exception made for The Beatles, but whatever that first Dusty album was, I was at the record store the next day to get my copy. She was rarely on the radio where I was, so that was the only way to hear that wonderful voice. Being a kid, I didn't know anything about record production, but I sure knew that there was something different on hers. I'm glad this doc brought that out. I guess "Dusty in Memphis" was the turning point for everyone I knew. LOADS of Dusty fans came into being with that one. Thanks a billion for posting this video!

    Burt B was right few singers have a distinctive voice .. Dusty, Dionne Warwick, Piaf and Nina Simone only have to sing the first note and you recognise them...thank you Dusty for raising my spirit with your songs when I was a troubled teenager...Dusty in Memphis to comfort me in my love filled early twenties.

      She and Julie London, both will be remembered with such admiration. RIP Dusty!"Friends, Love Songs, and Heartaches" The oldies slowed down so we can hear the lyrics;
      "I Fall to Pieces With a touch of Class---ical Guitar!" and 'Please Come Back to Barcelona."

    The most iconic singer of all with a very rare talent so superior to all the singers of that era, or now for that matter, she had a magic that made you love her just by her husky tone of her unique voice.
    My teenage years were the best of times, i was lucky to have been a youth at that awesome period, the only other amazing voice at that time was Judith Durham of the seekers. These two were on another level at that time. The memories are glorious for me. There is a love for her deep in my heart that even at 74 It gives me that feeling of happiness.

    As a kid I remember watching 'The Springfields on TV. At that time (12 years old or so)what I was most interested in were her clothes and hair. I spent a lot of time drawing her and her fab shaped dresses and skirts, and those lovely blouses with a tie around the collar. As time went by I started to appreciate their music aswell. When she teamed up with Tamla Motown I loved it her voice was so suited to TM songs. I've just discovered that she wouldn't sing to segregated audiences in South Africa and they chucked her out. Good on yer Dusty. XXXXXXX

    Great documentary. It really enlightens the listener to the great talent of this singer. I remember when The Look of Love became a huge hit in the sixties, Iv'e allways loved the song and Dusty's interpretation of it, but not exploring her dyscography, I was left with the idea that she was a good singer with a sexy sounding singing voice, doing a pop masterpiece by Burt Bacharach. But now I know she is a great singer, with an astonishing versatility and vocal range, her black influenced singing is spot on. This is wonderful, thank you, and I'm going to look for more recordings of her's.

    Again, I want to thank you for posting this! Easily the best channel I've subscribed to. I fell in love with Dusty Springfield's music as kid. I forgot about her in the early 80's as my musical tastes exploded, especially thanks to MTV. Thanks to the Pet Shop Boys, I rediscovered her and her music. From then on, I've never forgotten her.

    I grew up in NY, in the 80's, I witnessed the birth of Hip Hop and, other than disco, that was all I heard on the radio cuz that's all that was played in the streets. Then one day I found myself in Manhattan, at a place called Tower Records with some friends. It was there I first heard "Son Of A Preacher Man" ... that summer I played that cassette till it bound up and snapped up in my dad's car stereo. I bought another one the following weekend and all my friends gave me crap for listening to that 'old' music, but man I was HOOKED.
    She is, quite simply, enchanting. Her voice exudes sultriness and longing while simultaneously resonating with power and intensity; a magnificent combination only found in the very best vocalists, in my opinion. R.I.P Dusty... just another fan who missed you then and now.
