    The isolators that some suppliers / DNOs fit often have a separate removable lid for the top part, the idea being the 'customer side' can be accessed without exposing the still live supplier side - in those situations obviously coming in the top would be bad, but for an isolator without that sort of lid as you say it really doesn't matter...

    • @TheMattSturgeon
      @TheMattSturgeon 2 года назад +1

      Generally those covers are reversible though, so the supplier can come into either end and then install the cover the appropriate way up.

    • @joesouthgate
      @joesouthgate 2 года назад +1

      All of the DP isolators now have covers that you can flip dependant on which side you have used as line/load

    • @alexacb63
      @alexacb63 2 года назад

      Ah ok, mine (installed probably 10 years ago) has text on it such that if you flipped it then it'd be upside down and look very wrong, guess they've realised since that was a bad idea...

    Lucky you can open those meters.
    Had a house here this week lose power.
    Went out to see and the meter had disconnected. No errors given.
    It's prepaid so checked the credit and that was fine.
    Re-paired the CIU to the meter and tried loading another voucher which didn't work.
    Eventually found the disconnect reason code and it said the meter cover was open, which it wasn't.
    Anyway 26 hours after losing power and with lots of nagging, the electricity supplier sent a team to check and they couldn't even get it to energise with their tamper unlock codes.
    So they've bypassed it and will send the other team to replace it.
    What a pain.

    Was the incoming earth isolated when you carried out the extraneous conductive parts test?

    • @tomorichard
      @tomorichard 2 года назад +2

      Exactly what I was thinking. The test by definition is to see the differing potential from installation earth and extraneous conductive part.

    • @MrSJT
      @MrSJT 2 года назад

      @@tomorichard problem with this test is that people get told where to test to and from but not the preparation for the test, in this case isolate the incoming earth conductor.
      What he did was actually correct, if it was still over 22k ohms then that is fine, although personally I would allow a higher reading taking into consideration of the manufacturers instructions of the testers accuracy of typically 5%, if it was lower then you should definitely disconnect and retest.

    Who's making the call to Hypervolt to give more space to terminate the cables? That's a bad redesign for sure. 👎 Back to the Zappy! Not really sure why one would want all the LED's on the EVSE equipment. Dark, unobtrusive is the best. Its a glorified wall plug. Is Hagger or MK going to add ring lights around the sockets as well to it would match the EVSE? 🤦‍♂ Most EV's can tell you when they are charging by its light, you don't need more. I guess the EVSE guys are thinking like the computer guys and putting RGB in the cases to keep up with them.

  • @jamieh8667

    I’ve done a few of the new Hypervolts, I find them quite easy to connect, I don’t tend to swoop up and back down I just do a little loop right under the terminals.
    The rotary dial is really hidden, and the CT clamp plug is quite fiddly too.
    Still a nice unit I think.

      Both Neutral and Line are LIVE conductors 😁

    • @aaronmdjones
      @aaronmdjones 2 года назад

      That CT is used for RCD protection; it needs to measure the difference between line and neutral, so both need to pass through it. Also, as Yacoub said, neutral is a live conductor; it carries current in fault-free conditions.

    • @russlees2589
      @russlees2589 2 года назад

      The CT is used as RCD here, with neutral and line current cancelling each other out all is well. Any current goes to earth the CT will pick up the imbalance and trigger an isolation.
