This video highlights the value of a good apprentice.
7:00 worth saying that a lot of houses cover up asbestos soffit board with UPVC so be carefull when drilling through. Sometimes the give away that possible asbestos soffits have just been covered over is small nails in the UPVC fascia.
I had the same thought, given the age of the property it is very likely that this was the case, particularly serious if AIB was used rather than AC, high asbestos content, very friable. Otherwsie a very tidy install job.
Would never want to do this without checking. At work, it is a Health and Safety offence, under HASAWA and Control of Asbestos Regulations.
Great video…having the right materials is everything but attention to detail is even more 👌🏽
You can grab your multimeter and measure the resistance of the wire to figure out it's length. Just have to look up the resistance for the size of wire you're using.
Edit:
10.00 mm2 - 1.91 ohm/km
=
0.00191 ohm/m
Mr savery did a great video on that same idea to find a break in a buried cable a few years back 👌
@@raymondburke1261Won't get an accurate reading on a 10mm though if the numbers are that small, meggers are as accurate as most have and have a resolution of 0.01
Great video, nice to see people taking pride in there work 👍
Nice job Nick, hard work on you’re own but perfect end result 👌🏻
Great and interesting video as always. Need to get yerself a reusable P3 dust mask for drilling into stone or ceramics! Silica going to be as big as asbestos issue.
I liked this video it's how you used to do them, and just the right amount of sponsored input. Going through the house (joists) was not an option this time. Wholesalers usually have a measuring wheel for cable.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers bud
I have one of the Little Giant multi-foldy-ladder things, it's heavy but great.
1.7m ladder, fits in the back of my Landie, fits through a doorway, extends out to nearly 6m. Love it.
Bit bendy at full stretch though.
thought it was going to be light than standard ali ladders as its glass fibre?
@@JayG2Kevery foldable ladder I have seen use steel mechanisms for the joints and add so much extra weight, but I bet they are a dam sight lighter than the alloy foldable ladders
@@HootMaRootmine is an aluminium extendy-foldy-ladder, the GRP one is about 25% heavier than the aluminium one.
10mm 3 core SWA is rated to 73amps so you'll be sweet. Even allowing diversity for the sockets and lights. Could have gone 4.0mm at 42amps
A good alternative for the laser would be a piece of string with a weight at the bottom. works a charm. Great vid :)
That's a great idea, cheers dude
Decorators plumb line
Brickies plumb line always had one in my bag, it was super useful and word got around I’d a proper line so much that I often wondered who owned it it was borrowed so much
You should patent that idea
Another great Video mate I might have to invest in those little giants
‘‘Twas a good video that Nick! Keep em coming!
Nice things about nic 1. nice beard 2. always intersting to traid 3. nice tats 4. great van set up 5. top spark.... how much more to get a unilite IL-925R 6. allway honest 7. good glove tips 8. videos when on holidays... 9.top tool tips and ppe 10.always worth a thumbs up.

Great video again Nick! Nice casual watch
Good video Nick.
I like the D-Line clips but I might just use the Linian ones next time.
Are you going to Elex London this week? It'll be good to catch up again.
Take care mate.
Think the only thing I would have done differently is way overspec the feed cable to the garage. But that is because I just wanted lighting and place to charge batteries (4mm) at first few years later I had to upgrade to 16mm to run a welder occasionally along with a freezer and bunch of other 240V tools
4mm2 for lighting and sockets to charge power tools is already quite big. Would normally be 2.5mm radial at 20A.
16mm2 is used up to 80A as a main supply for the whole property. You must have a massive welder!
@@tobysherring1369 the garage is 100 metres away from the supply and was recommended for that length of run to run 4mm, also what I didn't mention was that standard 2core 2.5 was in place for 6months and when pulled from the duct there was signs of heating up like yellowing and cracking of the gray insulation. 16mm was just to future proof it. Welder I have has been converted from 3phase to single phase and liked to trip the 30amp breaker it was on during heavy use
@@HootMaRoot that certainly explains it! Nick must have only run about 20m of 6mm2 which seems fine for the purpose.
Fact is he could run a welder, a kettle and a compressor at the same time off this cable as long as the EV isn't being charged at the same time. If installing the Zappi, it has room for multiple CTs (one is always used as an overall grid CT) but you can set an extra CT to monitor the load on the garage circuit and set the current limit to let's say 40A - if it senses a high current device it will curtail the charge.
Another great video ! Lovely job
Nicely done Sir Nick. I was waiting for an Adams mum comment with your Darth Vader breathing.. lol
😂😂😂

Nice vid Nick, hoping you will be filming the rest of the job when it happens.
Are your little giants the 10 rungs? (Or 3.2m I think)?
I don’t know how to but I’m fairly sure you can edit out background noise if you have a clip of the sound, might work for the breathing…
Tried your recommended public liability and they we’re 3 times the price I pay for the same cover 😮 so thanks but no thanks
Apart from that love you work ethic very neat and tidy
Hey nick, 10mm EV ultra with cat 5 would’ve made this job a little easier and saved a bit of time (Bit more expensive though I imagine)
It was just down to cost mate
£ 11 A meter nice and tidy though
I’ve also recently reverted to plastic tie wraps that electrical wholesalers still sell, even on metal fixings ooops. Like your radius bends they look very nice.
Seemed like an awkward long route having to go through the loft, was there a reason to not go around low level ?
Makes me laugh you kids love all the gadgets , don't know how we manged years ago .😂😂😂😂
Lovely drip loop.
Liking this style of video. 😊
Sack off the drop loop. Would have been nice and tidy straight through. Drill in an upward angle and CT1
Hì nick had you down as a bald guy never seen you with out your hat on great vlog took me back 30years
Lol get this a lot mate ❤️
10mm clipped direct correct me if im wrong but should be good a 50A give a bit more over head for shed feed and garage supply
You need to take in account the heat of the loft
Your cables doesn't have the meter amount written on it? Most of ours do, helps a lot
Quality content Nick 👊⚡⚡⚡👍
I love my little giant ladder , best ladder I have bought
How about putting some lights in the loft space
Lots of Brilliant content 🧐🙂🇮🇪☘️
Find those safety glasses for heaven sake (and yours).
6:25... Headphones will not protect your eyes 😎😎😎
Create content Nick , like the spit nail gun I bet it speeds up a bit of time, still using my trusty hammer 🔨 ⚡️👊
Should of used the nail gun no dust so much faster for clipping on the outside like in the loft
Not as tidy though, the linian clips are shaped to the cable so you can barely see them
same with d-line clips and no 10mm hole 🤷♂️
How have the builders managed to do lintels for those 3 stepped windows??? 4:34
ruclips.net/video/Qji5x8gBVX4/видео.html
A long one at the top spanning all three windows? And maybe also cantilevered ones on the lower two?
Lol good point 😂
Presume originally timber windows, so no lintels.
better hope that pvc has steel reinforcement inside cause this baby is running lintel free!
Didn’t anyone else notice that mental window?
What channel is it where you pull your own length mate ? Asking for a friend
lmao I will drop the link at a million subs mate
No purlings in the roof?
I enjoyed the video, but why didn’t you run the cable on the bottom rather than go all the way at the wall into the loft and back down I enjoy watching you keep up the good work just a bit puzzled. Obviously there must’ve been a reason because you’re a clever chap.
I thought the same but realised try bending that armoured around the corners of the house
Customer asked for it to up and over mate that’s all
How many windows? That's mental
You should have offered him a good deal on putting lights and a socket in the loft , future investment, and to make life easier in the future for anyone who goes up there ( added bonus it's empty )
what happened pulling the rope on the ladder....well covered
Hey Mr bundy you did not clip the cable using metal clips so it doesn't meet 18th edition wiring regs I noticed you use plastic clips
I assume your refering to the bit through the loft? If so then its above the ceiling joists and as such they provide adequate support for the cable in the event of a fire causing its clips to fail. The requirement is that in the event of a fire the cables don't fall on people escaping which they won't unless the entire ceiling structure has failed in which case a small armoured cable will be the least of anyones worry. Its a bit different if it were a suspended ceiling in a commercial application as these are far more likely to collapse. In most houses the cables run across the back of the ceiling joists and it doesn't matter what sort of clip you use, if the ceiling joists burn through to the point of collapse the clips are irrelevant.
Any chance of a link too then ladders? 👍🏻
amzn.eu/d/bcTT7Ja
These ones mate
9:13 Am doing my health and safety tests to be an electrician.. 3Points of contact before climbing the ladder had me rolling 🤣🤣
Man that was an easy loft to work in. If you're not absolutely laden with thick black webs and lying on your belly in the eaves, then its cheating mate. 5/10 at best 😀
Why not just go around the house instead up and over is there a reason like certain regs idk about (I’m a training elect)
they didn't want me to go round the house mate thats all
@@NBundyElectrical oh ok fair
drip uoop!
Invest in a dust extractor that mounts to your drill, game changer
Rather than up through the loft, could you not of clipped low around the house??
Customer didn’t want it round the house mate
You could always try Adam's mom if Adam is busy
What happened to your beard transplant?
What laser level do you use? And do you recommend it?
"couldn't be assed ringing Adam" when you have to ring your ex to get your clothes but decide to just wear what you've got and buy new stuff.
Fresh cut ?
Yep 😜
EVultra would look neater than 2 cables clipped together.
Just cost a lot more mate
2:20 vaksine related?
Why do people allow aerial and Sky fitters do that to their houses? Appalling mess.
No idea mate, looks dreadful
We live in a house built in 1908 with no cavity, all these cables were the source of damp in my living room. They had drip loops on the bottom but it was the water running down the cables which was penetrating the wall all the way down. Stripped them all off, damp problem solved.
Same at my Sister in law's. Searching for days for damp, underground, next door etc. Turns out that water was travelling inside the co-ax aerial from the roof to the living room.@@ade7163
Sky are the worst... Slinging cables
Neat, but not how I’d have designed it tbh. I’d have gone with alu/galv profile around the base of the house. More work & expense, but a neater finish.
Got over 70a with 10mm SWA
depending on the length of the run with voltage drop
@@yougotsniperd he’s gone 40m max. It ain’t dropped to 40a over that distance.
Don't forget the loft might get to 55C in summer so there is a temp correction too
I Thought the same thing. 73 amps clipped direct as per regs
Better with old fashioned cleats then clips are awful
Sorry but that doesn't look great.
