Excuse me Mr. Julier, is there a way that I could contact you privately? I want to ask you something involving the “cheating” from the last tip. Your videos are helping me greatly while working with Procreate, so I respect your opinion greatly. I’m a junior in college (majoring in Graphic Design and focusing in Digital Painting) and I need to ask you something regarding the “cheating” thing from the last tip.
Thanks for these tips. I got an iPad a few days ago. The more I learn about Procreate, the more I love it. The developers have put so much thought in to keeping their app simple but powerful.
Just bought an iPad Pro 2018 11” and Apple Pencil specifically for doing art and I’m loving it already! Also came across your channel and the content is absolute quality 👍🏼
I picked up a few tips from this and a few reminders. The press and hold on the selected color to toggle back and forth is something I can really use! I also had no idea one could do a private photo! As for me, I’ll stick with the reference photos when I work on a specific project.
I wish I'd found you a year ago when I first got procreate...but better late than never. Your instruction is so clear and although quick, I can always go back and listen again. I'll be using the rest of your videos.THanks so much!
I actually love that last tip for when I've sketched something traditionally and want to convert to digital. I suppose the layer wouldn't actually need to be private, but would still make for a nice, smooth time lapse. Your tips are so helpful!! I'm new to procreate, so these are getting me off to a great start in figuring out my workflow! Thank you!!
I use Procreate for 2 years, the colour pick just blew my mind. :D The developers really did a great job with this app, it is near perfect. Thank you for sharing these cool tips. I am off to watch some more of your videos now.
Thanks for the tips. I could have used some of these in my last work, especially the moving an object and placing it somewhere else. Now I know it can be placed on a separate layer.
If you have an updated version of procreate, then go to the wrench symbol, then gestures controls, quick menu and toggle the touch option or any other method you prefer.
Thanks for all the inspiration that you have given me to improve my art skills. I have always thought it would be nice to have the option to save certain configurations of brush size and opacity. When you save a brush can the opacity and size be saved with it so I don't have to constantly change the size and opacity when switching between brushes or modes of painting?
This has been so helpful! I didn’t know about a lot of these despite having used procreate for a good 2 years haha I can’t wait to put these tips to use :D
Can you copy & paste a group to another drawing? For example: I was working on a large drawing and wanted to change the way I was doing something to see how it would affect the entire drawing down the road... Can you copy and paste layers into a new drawing, but only some layers - not copying the entire drawing? It happened to me in a large drawing I’m currently working on, but had already run out of layers. (too bad I don’t have an iPad Pro).
I agree about the tracing, but it is often been reported that even artists like Vermeer and Canaletto used camera obscurers. I'm loving the RUclips videos BTW. I just got hold of a new iPad Pro M1 with an apple pencil and I'm loving using Procreate and Tayasui Sketches.
Helll James how do u make this Hand control i that high Position? Normly by mine its always in the middel ( Left or Right ) i can choose. How i set it in this high Position like ur Hand Control Brush
Great tips again James Thank you so much. I’ve tried to get the brush tip but when i swipe the screen it’s not about the brushes the quick menu, it’s about layers. How do i do to get the brush option ?
You have some great tips here…it really made me laugh your last one, it’s sooooo true that some cheat and make out it’s their own but isn’t really. I didn’t even know you could do that ! 😯😯😯 but I am so new to this procreate that some effects I have been learning on this digital platform make it so much easier than a piece of art, with my canvas, brushes and paints that take me months to complete …..from air brushing, watercolours, acrylic, scratch art, alcohol inks as the list goes on …. I am trying this while I am unable to sit at my art desk, which is going to be a while yet …. Thanks for all your wonderful tutorials ! Trying to remember to put everything on another layer I was struggling with but after spending days doing one of yours then went back to the layer of trees and thinned them out, put all my layers back on and my sky and mist had been scratched out too. Soooooo frustrating so I just deleted the disaster, even all the “undo” wasn’t enough lol ! 😖🥴🥴🥴
It should do an auto caption that is pretty good. I’m afraid as a full time high school teacher, doing a video a week is a challenge enough and having to type all my captions would take me time I don’t have. I’m very sorry
@@JamesJulier-Artist usually Your videos do have captions :) but this one for some reason don’t maybe it’s in the settings?? Sometimes people forget to click the settings :)
Damn, tips number 1 is already boggling my mind. Been having procreate for 6 years and this is the first time I seen a tips where you can add custom pallets just by dragging it from photos. Alright, I’m not an artist and just using procreate for fun. 😂
Thank you James. I have a difficult time downloading these color pallettes. I can click on the link on your Patreon page easy enough. Then, at that point after, I’m never sure where the file goes and how to get it into Procreate. Am I missing a step? Do I have to somehow configure Procreate ? first? My iPad is connected to the internet. Does anyone else struggle with this situation?
Hi, Ronald. The first place to look is in Files, tap that icon. You should then see Downloads in the side bar, tap that. Once you see the File you downloaded, you can click on it and get options to 'Open', or 'move'! Etc. I think double clicking it initially should actually open it in Procreate. Go then to Palettes in Procreate and you should see it on the top. One thing I do is to keep my Downloads file clean by immediately moving any download to the appropriate place in my file structure, so I have no trouble finding a new download. Hope this helps.
I have mixed feelings about it, some people trace everything and pass it of as their own skill denying tracing in their work. That’s what I mean by cheating.
I have for quite some time been trying to get some critical functions added to Procreate, like being able to apply blending modes to groups instead of just individual layers, and also to have a function that will grade between two selected colours and allow you to select any colour along that gradient, and finally, to have a brush blending mode shortcut, but I have found that the developers just ignore most requests. Have you had any success dealing with them?

Wow James!! I thought that I knew Procreate tips and you showed me 6 things more!! Thank you very much for your videos.

I love all your tips.. Very helpful. Wish my brain would remember all of your great tips. Thank you so much.
Wow James! Thanks so much. Had no idea of these features. Especially the first one. It eliminates all the guesswork on the color pallet.
Glad to have helped
The tap menu you created for the brushes, is that only on a iPad Pro? I don’t have that on my iPad Air
If you have an updated version of procreate, then go to the wrench symbol, then gestures controls, quick menu and toggle the touch option or any other method you prefer.

Yes switching between brushes it will remember the size/opacity you were using for each brush
These tips are gold! Cheers James!

can you share with me what brand you use for your iPad screen protector?

Love your work. But through history some of the greatest artists used tracing.
I know it’s a question of how much you lean upon a technique I guess
Tracing isn’t cheating!!! Jeeeeeez

Nothing wrong with tracing to be a better artist
I think the degree is the factor here, a little assistance is all good as long as it’s not all of it!
