I know this video is a few years old, but I'm very glad I found it. When I was younger, I loved art and spent a lot of time with pen and ink, and charcoals. Eventually, the time came where I had to make a living and other than occasional doodles, I put my passion on hold. After about five decades I I now have the opportunity to pick up the pen, again. This time it's a digital pen as I just received my display tablet yesterday. After hooking it up to my computer and giving it a try, I realized just how different of a drawing experience pen on screen is. Add that to my very deteriorated skills, and I feel like I'm back at square one. Your exercises were just the thing I was looking for to help me improve my basic drawing skills and adjust to a completely new type of art, digital. Thanks for the video. :)

I remember, so vividly, using these exercises back in high school art, which I took seriously because I took and still take my art-making as a gift I naturally took to. I have used these techniques over the past 25 years to help open my hand muscles up and also to help me fill void space in my art journal :-D Way to go, Flo! Haha These are also exercises one must perfect if hoping to be apprenticed as a tattoo artist, but you tape a small eraser to your pen, never a pencil, because you cant make mistakes in tattooing! The eraser is taped at the top of you pen to help your hand get used to making intricate marks with the weight of the actual machine at the top of your needle.

Something I found useful is if ur in a high school with fine arts take their art class. I’m finishing up being a sophomore (May 21) but in freshman year I took beginning art and maybe it’s just my teacher or something but my teacher taught me how to shade and use different media’s to apply to art. She also went over anatomy but I already learned that on my own. I also learned bout color theory and primary colors maybe that’s basic knowledge but I don’t do coloring so dabbling in that helped a lot. :)
I’m also taking the next level of art class for junior year and she’s the only one that teaches that so I should end up with her again. I also hope to take her advanced class for senior year.
In the end take advantage of what’s available but it’s free at my school and if it costs some money see if ur parents/guardian will be willing to pay for it

@@rifaiiixiii These are " Digital Painting " exercise ... Some of these are pointless with natural media . You don't need to learn how to manage the pressure sensivity on natural media ... You do different kind of exercise or variant of these one . I think that people don't know that a graphic tablet is around 20 - 40 $ ... Everybody can start . On the long run is far cheaper to paint with oils or Acrylics .

I usually don't comment, but this for me it's incredible. Yeah maybe 2 or 3 of those tips are useful, but really, don't say to people that with 5 mins at day they will improve. Ofc they will learn, but as everything, more skills requires more times. Yeah, maybe they will learn how to draw what they image in, like, 5 years if they still draw 30 mins a week. Guys, the real tips are, became confident with your tools, look as much you can, and draw a lot. That's all,don t be scary if you don t reach resaults instantly, but if you keep to do this, you will learn a lot. Not in a day, not in a week, maybe in months but you can bel surely that with 5 mins at day, you will not get nothing

Amazing video!!! I would also add doing all these exercises with your non dominant hand as well! Also great for a brain exercise and hand eye coordination with other hand. I learned from an artist veteran that creating with the non dominant hand has many benefits and if for some reason you can’t use your dominant hand you still have your other hand.
