Anderw Loomis himself in his book "Drawing the head and hands" mention on page 36:
    "Varaiety in spacing creates types
In order to create differences in type and character, we may decide not to follow the basic measurements or divisions to meticulously. By varying the proportions of the three divisions of the face, we come up with a good deal of variety in the resoults. There are thousands of possible combinations. It is fun to experiment with them."
So problem with Loomis method is not method but that most of people who use it or teach it use only most basic form of it. In his book Loomis describe many variants of this method, he describe separetly method for men, women, boy, girls and babies and for different types of heads and faces. I strongly reccomand everyone to read this book, it's avalable in digital form for free.

Suppose that you were sitting down at this table. The napkins are in front of you, which napkin would you take? The one on your ‘left’? Or the one on your ‘right’? The one on your left side? Or the one on your right side? Usually you would take the one on your left side. That is ‘correct’ too. But in a larger sense on society, that is wrong. Perhaps I could even substitute ‘society’ with the ‘Universe’. The correct answer is that ‘It is determined by the one who takes his or her own napkin first.’ ...Yes? If the first one takes the napkin to their right, then there’s no choice but for others to also take the ‘right’ napkin. The same goes for the left. Everyone else will take the napkin to their left, because they have no other option. This is ‘society’... Who are the ones that determine the price of land first? There must have been someone who determined the value of money, first. The size of the rails on a train track? The magnitude of electricity? Laws and Regulations? Who was the first to determine these things? Did we all do it, because this is a Republic? Or was it Arbitrary? NO! The one who took the napkin first determined all of these things! The rules of this world are determined by that same principle of ‘right or left?’! In a Society like this table, a state of equilibrium, once one makes the first move, everyone must follow! In every era, this World has been operating by this napkin principle. And the one who ‘takes the napkin first’ must be someone who is respected by all. It’s not that anyone can fulfill this role... Those that are despotic or unworthy will be scorned. And those are the ‘losers’. In the case of this table, the ‘eldest’ or the ‘Master of the party’ will take the napkin first... Because everyone ‘respects’ those individuals.

tbh i like how bridgeman suggests to draw the head. Just start with a square, attach some skull bits/face bits. I think what I use is an amalgamation of what i recently memorized from bridgman and an old and totally legit digital class from Scott Eaton. I find it much more specific and hence harder to get wrong than the loomis method, and I find memorizing the skull underneath helps tons!
the more you understand the anatomy underneath, the more you can morph the face around it, i suppose, whether you're shooting for something realistic or otherwise. Sameskull syndrome is many times worse than sameface syndrome! the skull is the foundation of the face!

actually, i personally use loomis also for different proportions. The way i use it, basically, is to use loomis as a base to build a skull and instead of using the proportions, i use it for the logic. That is: ok, eys and ears are pretty much same height, jawline start from chin to ears and so on. By enlarging one part, i can still follow the logic and the basic geometrical shapes to keep the face "realistic", but at the same time to make it different from the bones. Very confusing, but it is easier to do it rather than explaining with words.

Where novice artists get stuck is they learn this method and get stuck because they think this is "the way" to draw faces and have a hard time breaking free of the basic guide.
Once an artist understands that it's a template that can be tweaked, the Loomis method becomes far more valuable and flexible.
It's like a recipe. Follow it rigidly and you get the same result every time. But once you get comfortable with adjusting it to suit your preferences and needs you'll get a lot more mileage out of it.

I told myself I wouldn't invest too much time and money in drawing, that it was just going to be a fun way to relax at the end of the day... After a month of doodling, I saw myself getting better and better, I ordered more expensive supplies and now here I am bingeing this whole channel! I love your tutorials and your sense of humor, super easy to digest for this beginner. Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us! This channel is awesome and I haven't left a RUclips comment in forever but I just had to let you know that.

@@nengelen Any creator loves to hear how their work affects the lives of others, that they're not creating alone into a void. I won't respond to you again, but it's poor form for you to hijack this comment to try to bring negativity. I hope you fix the sickness in your soul that causes you to lash out and bring cruelty and selfishness into a place where there was none before; perhaps it is a projection of your own malice.

You journey motivates me. Even it I draw for years, I am stuck to a certain level where I am not consistent. I guess I should think less about the result and just enjoy the process :/
      Thank you for sharing 😊

The point of the loomis head is to simplify the head into a circle and a box, if you can't change those forms slightly to match the head you're drawing, that's not because the loomis method doesn't work or you are bad at portraits it's that your fundementals are lacking. you need to be able to stretch and manipulate the sphere and box and if you cant, don't bother learning portraits yet, learn the fundementals
