Brilliant! My high school art teacher took us on an art camping trip. We each had to choose a pine cone. He made us ‘observe’ it for 30 min before we could begin drawing it. Absolutely everyone’s sketch was in beautiful 3D depth and detail.
I refuse to believe that, I am the KING of making mistakes. Not only that, I claim this title thanks to youtube tutorials. If it weren’t for so many misguided attempts at teaching. I wouldn’t have claimed to be the GOAT of mistakes. I deserve the jumping the gun award, the anti observation award, the circle in square peg award, the idiot who paid 600 for a course award, all these I deserve. Anyway great video as always Kenzo.
I always got into issues with the actual position of the eyes, nose and lips so I was practicing on the full frontal portrait drawing which I think would be also useful for beginners. Thank you for the great advice.
Well you know me by now……all about the detail and missing the sculpting of the big shadows till I get to the end and Whoooops. I need these reminders to get back and keep on track. Simple big shapes first!🌺🔱🔱🔱🌺
I know what you are trying to say here, but how you analyze portraits is waaaay more beneficial and structal because you allready have that knowledge. Someone who is just starting to learn to draw portrats will analyze it much less beneficial than you because he won't know what to look for. And those books from Loomis, Bridgman, Bammes, Hoghart, Vilppu, Vanderpoel..... teach you what to look for in a photograph or in real life. What would make much more sense is to read a page or two from one book and only THEN start to observe and look for what you learned in a book (structure)
Loomis is only a framework to describe the proportions and generalized forms of the head. It teaches you to see the planes in a general way, but you have to look how form turns, and there is not one size fits all, so you must observe proportions and observe relationships.
the method you saying that is "wrong" were already established by logical and rational reasoning - everything we see has fundamental shapes and the technique to start from fundamental basic shapes is extremely important in arts < from that basics idea comes abstract. Ex: a ball is a ball, its primary shape is circle, any other details are secondary or superficial, like that from a basketball, a soccer ball or billiard ball, all these accompanying features are superficial - similarly the head and their basic shape are fundamental or basic foundation of a physical things, any details you add to these basic shapes are superficial - to connect your teaching and logic..What you teach is to focus on superficial features, THEREFORE people who follow your logic will achieve only superficial knowledge. Your style maybe applicable to you but not for everyone.

Oof, I feel you brother.
This is why I'm the king: I actually make the tutorials for a living and then make the mistakes
