Thank you for a really great class. I've paid for 3 Procreate beginner classes online and none of them taught anything about how to get started, the different controls, how to set your pencil, nothing about learning how to get started. Although they were supposed to be beginner classes, that started right in as if the students knew all of that already. I love that you assumed a beginner wouldn't know any of that how to get started stuff and went over all of it so well. Thank you so so much!!!
I’ve recently started using this app. I haven’t drawn since I was 14, and I’m now almost 33. The hardest thing is realising that I’m going to totally suck at this for a good while. Thanks for the help.
Watching your videos is exactly like attending an exceptional art class- I’ve learned more about how this app works in the last 15 minutes watching this than I have by using it for the last couple of months! Thank you so much!
Blown away with this program. Purchased it last week after I bought my first iPad Air and watched one of your videos. Looking forward to drawing again after 30 years. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for this. Treated myself to Procreate and then sat staring at it like a prat because I didn’t have a clue how to use it. This video was a MASSIVE help!
This video literally convinced me to buy an ipad pro just so I could use this app. I currently use a desktop with a cintiq and separate monitor for my work. I wanted to work on the go and tried a cintiq laptop thing and a surface Pro 4, both of which I *hated.* The menus and toolbars and color selectors took up the whole screen and I needed a keyboard separately just to use short cuts because so many commands took forever to select otherwise. And everything was tiny. The programs were just designed for a much bigger screen... Like my desktop set up. Plus, if you need to juggle a tablet, pen, and keyboard, its not very mobile or a nice user experience! This is so, so much better for the screen size.
This tutorial was fantastic!! After watching your video, I was able to “ get started” and had my first “ practice” drawing done in only a few min.! THANK YOU!
I just got my Ipad Pro and I got procreate a week ago and I appreciate this walk through! I'm a traditional artists in oil painting and watercolors, but I have some neat ideas that would work digital for some future projects!
Just bought this app and was just lost since I’ve never used an art app. This vid is so helpful. I watched it through then went back, watched a bit, went onto the app to practice then went back to your vid until I got it. I can actually produce drawings now. Thank you!
Paparazzi On Site While Im pretty sure Procreate is available on any iPad, the Apple Pencil is only available for selected iPads. Apple Pencil Generation 1 is compatible with several different iPads from the iPad Gen 9 to iPad Air Gen 3. Generation 2 is only available on the 11” and 12” Pro. Hope this helped
Just started digital drawing. I’ve always wanted to make art but it ends up shit. But with digital I can undo until the last time it looked good. This is one of the best channels I’ve discovered. Thank you sir.
Just got both my iPad and this app today. Thank you so much for the tour! Very informative and helpful. I'd be lost without finding it, and now I can't wait to get started. I never actually knew the extent of usefulness that the toolkit of this app had to offer and this video gave the most perfect explanation. +1 Sub
Just got my first iPad after pining over one for the past year. First thing I got was procreate (only app I have ever spent money on lol). As someone not new to drawing/painting or working digitally, this video is EXACTLY what I needed to get started. I feel very comfortable getting started on this new for me app now. Thank you for putting this together.
Thank You James, I am a new owner of a 9.7 6th gen iPad and have downloaded Procreate. Your lesson was wonderful and will certainly get me going. I have subbed and look forward to your channel. Thank You
Amazing thank you. I’m VERY new to iPad art but so glad I stumbled across this channel! You are an inspiration, your narration is a pleasure to listen to! 👍 Thanks again, Gary
Thank you, sir. Bought an iPad Air 3, Procreate, and an Apple pencil a couple of weeks ago. This is a HUGE help. I have no previous experience with this, or similar programs. Thank you for your time, I have subscribed, and will be watching your other videos. Greatly appreciated, sir.
Excellent video and now moving on to your longer one for Procreate 4. Are you considering a video on how to draw plants? That would be exceedingly helpful!
I've always wanted to learn how to paint things, especially since I started doing some work in Photoshop. Your tutorials have really helped me. Thank you very much for doing this! Cheers from Sweden!
You explained it well. I tend not to look at longer videos, but this was with every minute. I'm a Photoshop/Lightroom user and I wanted to get into some digital art. I'm using an Ipad Air 2 with a Bamboo Sketch pencil. Not as good as an Ipad Pro with an Apple Pencil, but that may be something in the future. One trainer video said to try and draw every day to enhance your skills. So, that's when I'm trying to do. I'll check out more lessons on your channel. thx...
You are a life saver!! ♥️♥️ I was trying to work out why when I pressed down on my apple pen nothing was happening. Lucky you showed us the default setting omg
Great video as usual thanks James. My iPad doesn't support apple pencil but when I tried the pencil at the apple store I noticed the pressure issue so that's gonna be a really helpful tip for when I buy a new iPad in August. I have a suggestion for a future video: May be you could do tutorials on ideas of how to utilize the cool new features in Procreate such as liquefy etc. in order to enhance the painting?
I recently got the procreate app and all your tutorials are helping a lot, many thanks! Also something else that is making it easy is paperlike for the iPad, feels perfect!
That was an extremely comprehensive introduction to the app. Enjoyed it very much and I must say it has persuaded me to go down the route of Procreate as opposed to Fresco. Looking forward to see what Ver 5 brings as there are a few good features I see in Fresco, not in Procreate e.g. masking and live brushes.
Big fan - you’re my favorite creative teacher. The only minor request I have is to somehow share brush size and opacity better during your tutorials. Sometimes I have a hard time figuring out what the brush looks like.
Thank you tell me about the pen curve. Although I have stylus for right now but when I get paid I’m going to get an Apple Pen 2 but, the info helps alot.
wow the first two points are SO helpful. I always wondered about the accidental marks from your hand but assumed the app probably didn't recognise it but I see now you have to manually edit the settings! actually I was watching another video of a girl drawing and she mentioned she gets random dots when she draws and maybe it's because she hasn't edited the settings! also the second point about the pressure sensor is also really useful! I've been hesitant about getting an ipad and pencil because of how the tip of the pencil wears off so your tip eases my worries. again thank you for these 2 tips, I've watched many tutorials now and you're the only one who has mentioned them and they seem pretty significant to know and save hassle:)
Many thanks for tutorial. I followed along and switched into Procreate at various stages and I am very impressed. The only problem I had was the disable touch actions. This stopped my Vidence stylus from drawing lines!!!
The artwork shown in this tutorial reveals (what appears to be) a sizable knowledge of insect anatomy. It’s wonderfully imaginative. You’ve conquered the 3 mountains of artistic endeavor: Imagination, Draftsmanship and Medium. Well done, sir.
I haven’t drawn anything in like several months cause of my stupidness getting distracted by games. I’m gonna try and buy the app soon to get my creativity back up n running and this has helped a hecklot to get started, so thank ye for making this informative video!
I’m not gonna get a iPad Pro, but I am getting an Apple Pencil! I’m so excited! But it’s quite expensive, so I’m going to buy a different stylus while I’m saving up for the Apple Pencil ✏️ (I’m getting the iPad 6th generation)

Paying for online classes isn't always the best idea to be honest.
You can find pretty much everything here on RUclips for free!
I’ve recently started using this app. I haven’t drawn since I was 14, and I’m now almost 33. The hardest thing is realising that I’m going to totally suck at this for a good while. Thanks for the help.

Procreate is also why I wanted an iPad! I just got my Apple Pencil too and I am so excited

Buy the IPad Air 4 instead. You can use the Apple Pencil 2nd generation and it’s 10” tool. Plus much cheaper than the pro.

It’s amazing value when you consider the cosy of photoshop

One advantage to keeping the finger drawing on is with shapes, it allows for the same line thickness all the way around with any brush you're using.
