The PGA professional who taught Corey Pavin his putting grip was the late Bruce Hamilton who worked with Corey from an early age up until his passing in 2011.
It’s kind the idea that the BJM Kotahi grip promotes except with both hands . Left thumb to the left side of the grip, right thumb to the right side of the grip which puts your palms upwards and removes a lot of the wrists out of the putting stroke on both hands.
Todd, I watched this video several weeks ago and I have to thank you and Corey. Due to arthritis like symptoms in the elbows, keeping the putter face square has been a challenge. Last year I switched to a claw grip with the right hand and that was very helpful but adding the open left hand this spring has been a game changer. The putter doesn’t rotate at all and it takes no effort to keep it square and on line. Feeling confident over a straight putt, even at 10 - 20 feet, is a great feeling and a very nice change. Thanks very much.
New Brunswick Canada. I use to be a very good putter consistent and always around the hole then something happened and I developed a case of the yips. Struggled with putting the last 4 years but last year new Cleveland putter and a better thought process really helped my game. Excellent tip thanks.
Thanks Mike. I have an entire chapter on putting in my book The Bad Lie if you want to continue learning and improving. Here is the Amazon link if interested www.badliegolfbook.com/
What you have just described is why "cross-handed or left hand low" putting works so well and has been adopted by so many touring pros. Can you say Jordan Spieth? The left wrist is extended and flat so there is no wrist movement whatsoever. Also, both palms face each other which favors a straight line motion. I have over 60 putters. One group are hickory-shafted and the other are more modern putters- many are models that have been used to win major tournaments including a 1968 Bullseye. Johnny Miller used one like this to shoot a 63 and win the 1973 US Open. Still a great putter and being two-sided (legal) also useful for hitting left-handed escape shots. Yes, this works. I actually took the putter grip off my mallet putter and installed an oversized golf pride tour wrap round grip that you install on a regular club instead. This allows me to put my hands in whatever position that feels the most comfortable without any flat spot trying to influence the position of the fingers or thumbs. I notice that your left thumb is on the side of the grip touching the edge of the flat part. I would rather it be resting on the smooth part of the round grip. Thanks for the upload.

It's winter here in Montreal so I've only tried this indoor, but it seems to give me more control. At 73 years young, I think this method should help me in the spring when golf starts here.
Great advice..I use that orientation of the left hand, left hand low, and that helps me be consistent in setup and outcome...keep up with your teaching..😃😎Stressdr.
John here from Michigan. 66 years old and don't have any problems on the greens, thankfully. Been using the same putter for around 40 years. Replaced the grip last year for the first time. I very, very seldom three putt. I am a high handicap but it's because I have a hard time getting distance off the tee, which leaves a long iron or wood for my second shot. That's where my problem lies
A bullsey was the first putter I ever had, and I used it from the time I started at 12 till well into my 30's. I'm a transplanted Texan living in Germany.
i already do this naturally. i always thought it was wrong compared to tigers grip (neutral lead hand). whenever i tried to make my lead hand a bit stronger, i feel like i can’t rotate/arc the putter face going back, so it always feels like im hitting the ball with a closed clubface. good reassurance for me with this video
Hi Todd, Peter here from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Great fan of yours, as by watching so many of your videos, I have managed to turn my game around: bombing drives down the middle, crisp wedge shots into the green, I have been able to recover ALL my lost distance with all my clubs !!! I am particularly interested in trying out this new putting tip as I have become a victim of the putter jips !!! Will let you know how it works out over the next few rounds. Thanks !!

@@USGOLFTVshow 1969! I had a bad first nine putting with my Tommy Armor iron master. Went in the clubhouse for a soft drink. There was a barrel of used putters. I see the Bulls Eye marked $4. I take it to the desk and tell the lady that it was mislabeled at that price. She informed me I did not know what I was talking about! I gave her 4 bucks and headed for the back nine...first time I ever hit a ball with it, a twelve footer dropped! Best $4 I ever spent,,,,,,,,,,,
I noticed Jon RAHM putting today and his right hand was in a weak position as well. This seems to keep the blade from opening hence a more square face at impact. I been trying it indoors and it works. thumbed up.
Robert G. from Los Angeles, California. Yes I played the Acushnet "Bullseye" putter, MacGregor "MT" Tourney's and the Titlest balata "smile" balls. True I was young, but I played a good game. One point I would like to make that I feel has been lost through time, better strikers of the ball-both pro and duffers. My opinion is that was mostly due to the balata ball, hit it wrong and you were left with a brand new ball that was unuseable. So the ball caused you to really pay attention to your swing. Maybe you could do some sort of segment to that fact
I used the bulls eye putter in college, but it was more out of necessity. My golf team was playing in the 1984 Tucker Intercollegiate College golf tournament in Albuquerque, NM, , and a lot of the best college golf teams were playing in it. I was using a Ping Anser 3 at the time and was putting really well. Well, the putter was stolen out of my bag before the tournament started, when my bag was laying just off the putting green. I was forced to buy to buy a putter at the pro shop, but there was not many putters for sale, so I bought a Bullseye putter, the non-flange model. Oh, and I putted horrible with it. I remember the temperature was in the mid to low 40’s with light rain, the pro shop must of sold a hundred beanies during that tournament.
I use a very neutral left-hand grip, with back of my hand pointing at target. I arrived at this by talking a putting stance (without the putter) and then letting my left arm hang down and swing like a pendulum; that gave me "the feel". When I actually putt, my left arm is just a pendulum, with my right hand supplying the power to move the pendulum. I think I'd be a really good putter if I could read greens, but that's another story! (Mark from Land O Lakes, FL)
