I swear by Danny Maude. I occasionally check out other instructors just to see what else is out there but I invariably return to Danny. His technique for relaying instructional information is clear, concise and completely understandable. Three thumbs up from this guy!👍👍👍
Great video Danny! I been working on exactly this lately with every club. By focusing on keeping my mass fixed thru the entire swing, i can now control the lowpoint of the swing and predict where the club hits the ground, and it has made me more consistent than ever, but most important, it has made golf FUN again😇
Thanks Danny for all your tips. I have just won our club championship at the ripe old age of 77 playing off 9.4. Never would of done it without your help🤙🏆
I too love Danny. I now have my right arm working where it belongs after studying one of Dannys great videos. I have marked improvements in consistency, confidence and distance.
Danny Thank you so much. I've sliced the ball most of my life and this year I followed you steps practiced and slowed down my swing. I am not hitting monster drives, but I am hitting them straight as and arrow. My GHIN went down 6 points because I am not hitting out of the woods. Thank you Ralph
Simple AND brilliant, Danny. I believe that you have revealed the missing piece as to why changing the ball position makes such drastic changes to the direction and distance of the ball strike. The center or bottom of the swing is at the Armpit and NOT the inside of the Left Foot ! Thank you, thank you, thank you !!! I'm looking forward to a great day on the course today.
@@DanielMaude WOW! After just a few rounds, my drives are now absolutely SOLID! I can not believe it. My fellow players also noticed. I played my first round of 46. Usually in the mid 50's. With Heads Up putting and fixing my long iron direction for a higher GIR, I hope to make a 40 by Summer's end. Thanks again, Danny !
Danny, just want to say thanks for this video. Watched it this morning, rocked up to the first tea (no warm up) and pumped one 290 yards down the middle! Even got a fist pump for the starter on the 1st tee. 0:01 One of my best driving days ever today, such a simple set up fix!
I was always taught to tilt the shoulders as you say at about the 3:30 mark but didn't realize I was over doing it. I couldn't understand why I was hitting slices? After watching some swings of myself I had recorded I saw this video and realized I was tilting but simultaneously leaning away from the ball believing I was tilting correctly (once again, what one thinks they are doing is often contradicted by video evidence). Almost on the first swing after "toning down" my shoulder tilt I was back to hitting the ball straight. I suspect this is a common problem where most instructors teach the shoulder tilt but isn't done correctly and results in one moving away too much versus just tilting. Wish I had watched this video about a month ago!!!
Danny, this is such an eye opener. Now I know what I’ve been doing wrong all these years. I’m a slicer and always thought I needed to tee the ball farther forward to get the face more closed (never mind I was rotating too much in the down swing). I realized my rotation was wrong because I could feel it but, couldn’t correct it. Love your videos brother.
So I was struggling with this very thing, I've even gone for a couple of lessons on trying to straighten out my driver, but this is the first video I've seen that explains exactly why your set up has to be this way, and what happens when it's not. I did exactly what you said here, and I've been at the range twice today, starting off very slow to get the feel for this, and gradually speeding up. My drives are now going perfectly straight, it's amazing, I will keep working at this but this was so great for me. Thank you! Now I need to work on getting more distance doing this. Cheers Mate!
I’ve been watching your videos for a while. All of them are great, but for some reason this one clicked for me. My drives and fairway shots have been long and straight and I feel more confident now when I tee up the ball. It’s like a miracle happened. Lol. Thank you so much.
Thanks brother, I’ve watched countless videos to try and fix my slice with no luck. One time at the range with these tips and I’m hitting much straighter and 30-40 longer. Cheers man keep em coming.
Excellent video friend. I taught golf for 30 years professionally. I always focused on the fundamentals and ball position is a fundamental that is often overlooked. 🇨🇦💝👍
Danny, this is such a great vid for all hdcppers. I’m single hdcp and lately struggled with hooks and pushes. Amazing how ball position failure tends to keep kreeping into your game. You’re explanation here should be a must practice on range regularly. Thx a lot!!
Consistent setup instruction is great Danny. My exact struggle and you have given key feels to get it right. I love the club at the center of the chest with just a slight tilt to get the club back to the ball at setup. I get to the tee box for a drive and start the setup and my mind takes over and I blank out, what the heck did I do the last time that I struck it so well. It's as though I am lost for a bit and then just swing and pray it is good enough to get a good iron shot in next. I hate that with driver it feels like the first time every time. I have been working on things so that is part of it, but this is great detail to repeat every time without a million shot killer thoughts rolling in the brain bucket... Thank you Danny. Will update with results...
At this time the driver and 3 wood are still in work. But my swing has changed for the better with my irons with a completely different swing with more consistent results. This new swing is great for irons and starting to work in the driver now. Thanks for checking. More to come...
Absolutely loved the comparison examples with the ball too far forwards or backwards. I'm a slicer, so I'm going to take all the tips to the range and do my best
Your videos are so helpful for me. Thanks. Did you had made a video about why my strikes on grass and on tees are way worse than on the mat on the drivingrange?
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER EXCELLENT, EASY TO UNDERSTAND VIDEO. Danny has the knack of explaining golf faults so we can improve. I will now make a few notes & then PRACTICE & CHECK WHAT I AM DOING. With Danny's recommendations my handicap is coming down despite being 81 years old. If I can improve YOUNGER, FITTER & MORE ABLE GOLFERS SHOULD ALSO GET BETTER.
Every week you provide gold. Thanks Danny! My driver swing was so much improved but last few rounds I was getting my ball position off I now realize. Thanks as always!
Very helpful indeed, as always. However, I am not sure how this sits with your earlier video recommending that you bring your right hand down to your right knee before reaching for the club with your right hand. This introduces a more extreme tilt that must tend to move your right shoulder slightly off-centre. As a result, I am very often off-balance to the right during the follow-through. I look forward to experimenting later today with a reduced tilt!
Hi Danny, I was on the course this afternoon and I could not figure out why I picked up a slice. It wasn't the warmth in Phoenix but I just watched this video and this is exactly what I was doing with the ball forward too much. Your alignment process will help so much. Really appreciate your videos.
Yeah i learned to play many decades ago from a coworker at a small par 3 course .. his “trick”for longer or shorter par 3 was moving ball position forward to open face some of the longer or shorter club for the distance(along with opening face at setup)… im starting to think after so long using this (even when i try not to) technique, it has influenced me too deeply . For a long time i use to only be able to hit a driver with ball back in stance (behind middle)….im assuming its sort of what Danny is speaking of here…since i was a slicer movIng ball back gave me more straight a drive …..
Thank you for your great videos. Are you planning to have a video addressing how high the ball should be tee'd up on drives and where the club head should be at during the start of your swing? I tend to tee up my balls lower since my club head is touching the ground during the start of my swing because if I tee it higher, I have a tendency to top the ball and if higher, I tend to hit the ball high and short. Thanks again for the great videos, much appreciated.
My goodness this is exactly what I'm struggling these days. I remember your video by heart about ball position but I've been really struggling with drivers lately and it seems that I have been tilting back way too much, leaning back during downswing (or moving my weight forwards leading to downstrike) and ball position way too forward. I'll be trying your note on practicing that feel next time I'm on the range. Kudos again!!
Danny, went to the range today before playing. Horrible. Ever mistake you describe here I was doing, but not realizing it. Waiting for by group I pulled up this video and WITHOUT practicing any of it I able to consistently get the club on the ball in the direction I was aiming. Whew. Thanks Danny! 0:23
You have gradually become my go-to place for golf instruction. For whatever reason, I never learned the bottom of the swing was below my left shoulder. This really helped my drives and even my irons as I could adjust my ball position knowing I needed to hit ball before the swing bottomed out at left shoulder (if that makes any sense). Watched many of your other videos and loved them all. Shot 79 today and was very comfortable over the ball...which I credit to you. Thanks!
Great explanation and hopefully going to be exceptionally useful in pre shot routine and especially good to revert to when things start going wrong on the course
Just found your videos and I wish I had found them 20 years ago! Simple illustration/results based instruction. Do this action = result of action. Brilliantly simple. Thank you!
Thanks for another great video. I love your passion and the clever ways you devise to say many of the same things, but in different ways in the hopes of providing understanding about golf swing mechanics. Not everyone learns the same way. Bravo!
This takes away 2 of my pieces for hitting up on the ball, and I'm a fairly low launch fade player. But I will give it a try because I love your input.
Your videos have been very helpful. As a Senior, just getting back into the game after a 2016 right knee replacement, things are definitely improving. Back then I thought my golfing days were done so sold the clubs. Starting a new, I’ve purchased a Cleveland Launcher XL Adjustable Driver. As you have said in a lot of videos, set up & body freedom is the key to a long & straight drive. Consistency is my problem. I’ve tried to setup the same each time, but a slice rears it ugly head. One thing that has helped, is to increase the bend in the knees. This increases my stability but reduces upper body freedom & distance. Any suggestions in set up changes? Also your thoughts on how should have the Launcher XL adjusted?
Another awesome video. I’m returning to the game after 20years away in other sports so I’ve been practicing your drills at the range. It’s now showing on the course with me constantly breaking 90 and now heading to the low 80s! Thank you. Keep the videos coming 👍
Thanks Danny. Very informative. I tend to hit my drives reasonably straight. My occasional miss would be to go straight left (no hook or slice - just straight left). I'm not sure what the cause of it might be - I always presumed it might be the ball being too far forward - but based on that video I'm not so sure now
Best ever technical explanation for driver set up. Also irons re lead arm pit vs swing impact positioning & results. Congratulations! Over the years watched easily 1000 RUclipss on golf. Sometimes just before I hit I set the club head about 8 in behind the ball a few seconds...any idea what I am compensating for? Seems to help me most times...why? I have no idea. Thx
Difficult to say but it can do different things; - close your alignment because you are setting up right of the swing centre - shift your weight at address more to the right - it may give you more time to close the club face at impact I suppose the question is, you say it helps. In what way does it help?
Thanks again, Danny, for your direct , video and explanation of helpful basics. I hit pretty straight on my drives but I hit in the up swing which has helped me. My low point is behind the ball about a n inch or two. Thanks again
Great videos as always, got back at golfing this year after a 10 years break, your videos have helped me get back on on track with so many things :) Keep the good work !
Hi Danny... love the videos!... keep em coming!... little query... I intuitively thought that the centre of the swing was the rotation around the spine, like the centre of a wheel, so was surprised at you describing the right shoulder being the central axis... I'd be glad of any extra thoughts you could share to clarify as it's bending my head a little....😂 Cheers. Jake
Something I was taught a few years ago, nice to see it explained in more depth. I find it incredibly difficult to put the ball consistently in the same position in my stance. As you've shown, 2cm makes a world of difference! Is there a way to get better at this ball positioning on the course? Using visual aids helps prove the point, but you cant do this on a course.
Cracking video as always Danny, I'll show this to my son he's been struggling lately with his driver, it's 3 wood and irons I'm struggling with, you make it look so simple but it's not cheers 👍
Danny, today is a very good day to watch your channel. Thank you very much . Extraordinary lesson about driver. I'm very happy. You make my day. Thanks again.
Thanks Danny for the tip. Just finished my club championship and was pushing the ball right. Got me trouble and I paid for it. This should help me keep it straight.
Thank you for explaining the impact of the laws of physics on a golf swing, which has given me a greater understanding and thus a considerable improvement in my own game.
Absolutely shifted my center with my driver swing yesterday ball popped in the air, hit the netting and i was so confused what i was doing wrong - your tutorials pop up exactly when i'm struggling. Can't say thanks enough Danny.
Great video Danny! So important to get this right. Unfortunately, most golfers just don’t understand or want to be bothered with the fundamentals. You’ve got to get the grip, setup, and ball position correct (I would also add takeaway). Those are non-negotiable as they affect everything else in the swing. Unfortunately, as soon as golfers hit a bad shot they let the brain take over and start adjusting the proper fundamentals with the hope of hitting it straight and the spiral of doom begins and they are forever a 90+ golfer until the find a great instructor like Danny Maude😊
Great video (as usual). I fall into the category of 'having a nice golf swing' but it's usually unproductive. I think ball position might be key with driver and probably other clubs. What's your take on ball position for woods - irons. Can you recommend a video to watch that you've already made? MANY THANKS!
Excellent video Danny on how to hit driver straight. As your video shows, ball position is important if you don't want to be hitting from the rough all day long. Well Done Danny! Keep up the good work!
Danny first off I have to say by no stretch am I a good golfer mostly because I can only get out 2-3x’s a year, stage of life issues with two teens and own my own business. That said your videos have very quickly taken me from a low hundreds to a mid 90’s golfer. Question though. This vid you would have us line the ball up with the inside heal of the lead foot; however in the video you posted 5mo ago you had us line up the ball on the Pinkie toe of the lead foot. Both videos make sense as to your reasoning but in the vid even putting the ball 1.5 ball lengths forward has you fade or slice. Any thoughts? Again thank you for all the content. It’s helped tremendously; esp around the greens.
Thanks for the arm shoulder and ball position simplification. Trying to find that extra 20 yds I've misplaced - down from 285-290. Of course @ 62 Yrs of age is the mind writing checks my body doesnt want to cash. Keep the great tips and instruction coming, so very helpful.
Thanks for this Danny. This has made me more consistently straight. I’ve already cured my slice from your previous videos but this has helped me eliminate my slight fade which was costing me yardage. I just need to learn how to draw now 😳
Amazingly simple set up explanation Danny, I can’t wait to try it out. One of my main issues is achieving a consistent set up on the course when I don’t have alignment aids. Any tips or is it just a case of lots of practice to get the right feel?
This works like magic !!!! Ive watch endless golf videos , I'm not a low handicap but I can hit long !!! I was having trouble with my driver, and a few years ago every drive was easy to carry 260-280, I blasted a 3 hybrid 283, a 7 iron 200 yards, 5 iron 205-220 165-180 is an 8 iron etc. I DONT TAKE 40 PRCTICE SWINGS OR SPEND AN HOUR ON THE RANGE, If at all I PRATICE A FEW IRON SHOTS AND 10 CHIPS MAYBE 3 DRIVES, 5- 10 MINS IM WARMED UP. Anyway I practiced this swing a handful of times ,walked up to the 1ST Tee, set up, no practice swing , never looked at the ball I focus in at that "LOW" point where the head of the driver would bush the turf, You have to be careful not to tee up too high, . You clobber the ball clean but you will get to the stratosphere and total distance is 220 yards .BUT I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENT IN CONSISTANCY !! This is the most accurate and easy to understand, his techniques work immediately !!! Also even if you duff your Tee shot and pop it or hit thin , the ball goes straight ! you will be in play always, No Driver out there is going to improve your distance, Matter of fact I think I could drop 4-6 strokes if I never took the driver out again ! ! Thanks for your videos, these are simple techniques to dramatically change your game, use less effort and you don't have to kill to ball, I'm 6'4" 215 LBS 64 now still strong. ,Always active and worked out daily since I'm in my 20s. Its not about strength ,but it helps, Its about club head speed and hitting the ball in the sweet spot and follow thru with your swing !
Dang! Totally opposite of what I was thinking. My thought was, the further forward would help me draw the ball. Makes sense now when I think my ball is slicing. Thanks mate!
Being from / living in Alaska, it blows my mind to know some casuals are *that* good. We only have another 3 weeks or so of golf left! Keep swinging ⛳️

@jonporter7916 thank you so much. That’s great. Enjoy 🙏🏻
Thx
Difficult to say but it can do different things;
- close your alignment because you are setting up right of the swing centre
- shift your weight at address more to the right
- it may give you more time to close the club face at impact
I suppose the question is, you say it helps. In what way does it help?
Thanks. Think it just reminds my brain, body to hit bit upward and swing inside low from that lower point a few inches behind the ball.
Great video Danny as always 👍 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Roy, have a great weekend
Thanks again, Danny, for your direct , video and explanation of helpful basics.
I hit pretty straight on my drives but I hit in the up swing which has helped me. My low point is behind the ball about a n inch or two.
Thanks again
Great videos as always, got back at golfing this year after a 10 years break, your videos have helped me get back on on track with so many things :) Keep the good work !
@Dudezo thank you so much. That’s great. Enjoy 👍🏻
Hi Danny... love the videos!... keep em coming!... little query... I intuitively thought that the centre of the swing was the rotation around the spine, like the centre of a wheel, so was surprised at you describing the right shoulder being the central axis... I'd be glad of any extra thoughts you could share to clarify as it's bending my head a little....😂 Cheers. Jake
Love it so much!! Hitting it better already
Lovely to hear
Something I was taught a few years ago, nice to see it explained in more depth. I find it incredibly difficult to put the ball consistently in the same position in my stance. As you've shown, 2cm makes a world of difference! Is there a way to get better at this ball positioning on the course? Using visual aids helps prove the point, but you cant do this on a course.
Thanks once again, Danny. I can't wait to get out and try this. Brilliant and practical tip!
@mattcody4933 you are most welcome. Enjoy practicing 👍🏻
Quick watch before my round this morning. 🤝🏻 Thanks Danny!
have fun
Cracking video as always Danny, I'll show this to my son he's been struggling lately with his driver, it's 3 wood and irons I'm struggling with, you make it look so simple but it's not cheers 👍
@iaincochrane8741 I'll try that mate thanks 👍
Brilliant video. Seriously, one of the best I've seen, full stop.
@markstringer5555 thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
I really appreciate this method of setting body tilt and look forward to trying it!
@donaldelder1368 thank you. Enjoy practicing 🙏🏻
Danny, today is a very good day to watch your channel. Thank you very much . Extraordinary lesson about driver. I'm very happy. You make my day. Thanks again.
@OscarGonzalez-vg3cp you are most welcome. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Thanks Danny for the tip. Just finished my club championship and was pushing the ball right. Got me trouble and I paid for it. This should help me keep it straight.
Love to hear how you get on Robert
Love your video's buddy. Helped my game a 100%. Enjoy your weekend 👍
Thanks, you too!
Off to the range, thanks Danny!
Pleasure Kevin, all the best
Thank you for explaining the impact of the laws of physics on a golf swing, which has given me a greater understanding and thus a considerable improvement in my own game.
@AndersHOlsson you are most welcome. Thank you 🙏🏻
This video is a revelation. Can't wait to take these tips to the range
Awesome to hear, thanks so much for sharing
Absolutely shifted my center with my driver swing yesterday ball popped in the air, hit the netting and i was so confused what i was doing wrong - your tutorials pop up exactly when i'm struggling. Can't say thanks enough Danny.
Happy to help 😁
Danny-you are the clearest distiller of relevant swing thoughts on the net- another brilliant vid!!!!!
@concernedearthling4877 thank you so much 🙏🏻
This video is pure GOLD. I’ve learned so much from your channel. Thanks man!
@bryandouglasbailey thank you so much. You are most welcome 🙏🏻
Danny, yet another video from you that takes a potentially complex subject and breaks it down to simplicity itself. Thanks.
@grahamdennis2115 Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
Great set up and proper grip. Most guys would love your " not so far" drives with the ball too far forward or back
Great video Danny!
@johnschwartz1536 thank you so much. Really pleased you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Good video- I'm curious that you did not mention keeping the head back when coming through which is also key
So simple but very effective. I will certainly be paying more attention to by ball position tomorrow when I play.
Thanks Michael 😁
Thanks for the arm shoulder and ball position simplification. Trying to find that extra 20 yds I've misplaced - down from 285-290. Of course @ 62 Yrs of age is the mind writing checks my body doesnt want to cash. Keep the great tips and instruction coming, so very helpful.
really kind thank you
I'm going to look at this in my game. I've been playing only for 14 months. Always slice ball so I really hope this helps. Many thanks 👍
Really enjoy your videos. Your swing looks effortless. What is your swing speed?
Comfortably sits around 116mph
Thanks for this Danny. This has made me more consistently straight. I’ve already cured my slice from your previous videos but this has helped me eliminate my slight fade which was costing me yardage. I just need to learn how to draw now 😳
@jimclarke818 you are most welcome. That’s great. Enjoy practicing I’m sure you will get there 👏
Another great video mate much appreciated!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazingly simple set up explanation Danny, I can’t wait to try it out.
You a great trainer/coach Danny. I’m officialy a big of you. Keep it up.
@cyberbogart thank you so much. Your comment really does mean a lot 🙏🏻
As always! Great stuff Danny!£
Glad you enjoyed it Charles, really appreciate your support
I am going to take some sticks for alignment to the range and practice this. I sure would like to see another video on alignment through the irons.
Thanks Chris will look to cover the irons soon 😁👍
Good stuff, Danny. I can't wait to apply this at the course. Thanks for the video.
@kjhoskins thank you 🙏🏻 Enjoy practicing 👍🏻
Dang! Totally opposite of what I was thinking. My thought was, the further forward would help me draw the ball. Makes sense now when I think my ball is slicing. Thanks mate!
@@mattjohnson7835 you are very welcome Matt
Love your instructional vids. My question would this work for irons as well?
I have said this before, but I genuinely believe Danny has the best golf instruction channel on YT
@sandg thank you so much. Your comment really does mean a lot 🙏🏻
Bugger, Danny now I have to go to the range again tomorrow, as I’m sure this lesson is just what I needed. Lee Australia 🇦🇺
love to hear how you get on Lee
I drove a par 4 today made an Eagle. It felt amazing. I'm a 4 handicap and feel I could be scratch next season if I keep working on my game.
Love to hear how it goes
Being from / living in Alaska, it blows my mind to know some casuals are *that* good. We only have another 3 weeks or so of golf left! Keep swinging ⛳️
@jennatolls88 I'm definitely not a pro. Been playing for 16 years. My golf has improved tremendously thanks to the great videos from @DanielMaude and effort I have put in to be where I'm at. I hope to improve even more in the coming seasons.
Brilliant explanation as always Danny 🙏🏻
@Locksta85 thank you 🙏🏻 Glad you enjoyed it.
I’m going to start paying more attention to my ball position for sure. Valuable vid. I just subscribed. TY
@WiNTworkstation thank you so much. Enjoy practicing 🙏🏻
Excellent video and lesson! ❤
@JohnJohnson-he1yv thank you so much and thank you for watching 🙏🏻
