Todd, I’ve been recuperating from spine surgery for the last three months. During that time my golf was limited to watching your videos. Yesterday I went out to play for the first time. I just hit wedges, irons and hybrids. I was so pleased with how I was hitting the ball. Better than ever actually and it was due to watching your instructional videos, thanks for you help, Mike from Tucson, Az
This is my first time to contact you, I have been watching your feed for a couple of years. You have given me some good help. My big thing is getting the distance I would like when I am playing. Maybe my age has a little to do with it since I am 89 years old. I love the game and will play as long as my body will let me. My handy cap last year was 24 and I play from the white tees.
I hope i'm playing at 75 (10 to go) BUT 89, wow, I love you (in a non-sexual way). You're not that bloke who rides a mini bike, with fat wheels, are you?

I’m a left below the knee right handed amputee. Trying to maintain balance in a swing without falling when trying to get onto my lead side when completing a swing has been a real challenge. I would love to see a video on how to accomplish this since no one does videos on how to learn to swing as an amputee
We are full-time RVer's. Have played golf all over the country. Play most of our golf in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas where we spend our winters. Nice but usually very windy.
Appreciate the videos. Subscribed. Got to "re-learn" my swing. Left knee and left shoulder replaced last year. Needless to say I am apprehensive. Plan on hitting the driving range in March 6 months after total reverse shoulder replacement. I've chipped a little around the house. I know my swing will be a little limited. Stepped down to a senior shaft and hope for the best. Just want to be pain free. Thanks again.
I still struggle with the irons on the distance and height. I tend to hit line drives with my lower number irons. My wedges are fine up to my eight. Even my 7 is starting to be lower. You are spot on about the head-up and being more relaxed btw. Keep these videos coming and thanks
This has been awesome. Your teaching has helped my game tremendously. I was topping the ball or even hitting club into the ground. Once I used your technique with my irons especially my driver my game has improved significantly.
Thank you! Always fun and nice to see our content help our fellow golfers. If you enjoy learning, you would find our book The Bad Lie helpful. You can find it on Amazon here www.badliegolfbook.com/
I'm a 80+ player from Ellsworth, Ohio.....I cant play as often as I'd like but your instruction videos provide me with something to implement each time out....Thanks
Excellent video. The people I teach ( all ages ) are usually beginner golfers, most jerk their head up well before the clubhead reaches the ball resulting in either a poorly struck ball or a whiff. What I tell them is to keep their head as still as possible, also relaxed and without feeling restricted, at least until they make contact with the ball. Most get it within a few swings, but some do not.
Bryan, appreciate those kind words. Placing the club in hands properly is the first step to playing good golf. I put an entire chapter in my book The Bad Lie on this topic along with a few other gems. Seewww.badliegolfbook.com/
I agree. All you have said, makes sense. Still can you please explain why some prof golfers on the video appear to have their head down even after impact? Thanks
I've been following you for quite a long time and my game is getting better. I, and I think many other golfers, need your professional advice about how to deal with clubs that are too long. Thanks a lot in advance.
Thanks for great video Todd. Finally have been allowing my hip to turn and the leg right leg to straighten and hitting the ball better than I was at 35... Now 75 and have been shooting below my age the last year.

In my erratic golf history, I've always fallen back on the model of right foot square to the target line and trail leg angle maintained in order to promote a coil. I have found that flaring the trail foot and staying loose is better on my back and works well for me at 74. Also, using your 60/40 weight setting. How do you feel about the concept of presetting weight to the trail side and firing the right side from that position. Great lesson, as always. Thanks for the much appreciated help.
I understand the fallacy of "keep your head down" but I do try to see the clubhead strike the ball. Your focus on movement in the swing is critical. Being 72, I fully appreciate your advice for "experienced" golfers. Living in the Northeast I have little opportunity to frequent the driving range in winter but will try your tips soon. Thanks
We are on the same page. The golf swing is a movement and yes we should see the ball, however focusing on not moving the head at all can cause problems for many golfers we see. Thanks for posting! Are you a subscriber?
Allan Patrick - New Brunswick Canada Do you have a video to help with downswing tempo? The minute I get even a tiny bit quick starting the downswing I come up out of the shot and a one of several mishits occurs.
I have always been told to keep my knees bent. I do hit the ball better when I think about keeping them bent. Maybe you could do a video on how much and when you should.
Todd, Love all your videos. Just wondering if you could do a video or explain to me the correct way for a right handed person like me who plays golf left handed to swing a club. All advice I ever see is to swing like you're throwing a ball but my left hand is not my dominant hand. I'm sure there's hundreds if not thousands of golfers like me or lefties who play right handed. Thanks..
Hi Todd,, A big thank you for all of your videos they really do help. Would you please cosider doing a future video on a problem I have and I know my friends have and that is the lack of distance improvemnt between clubs as you go through the bag. Let me explain , Im a seniior golfer coming up 72 now and I have distance increase on the pitching wedge 9 iron and 8 iron but when it comes to the 7,6 and 5 irons they all give me the same distance with no improvement so you can understand why the 5& 6 irons generally stay in the bag , can you help please, Regards Richie
You bet, we can do that. Have you tried hybrids for the longer clubs? It sounds like we are having a carry issue which is causing the lack of distance.
You are teaching a great point. Vertical swing. Would you recommend the purchase of the new Teton driver ? That is their point of sale to a senior. What say ?
Can you talk about wrist movement/release (or no)? Sometime I feel that I do a little thing with my wrists at the bottom of the swing. Not sure where it is coming from - og if it is a good thing!
Enjoy all the helpful advice. While I have been hitting fairly straight or with a slight fade all of a sudden I’m pulling everything left . This coincided with cooler weather. Any thoughts. Thanks. I’m in NY

Some say have the label facing down, I think I saw another having it facing out. I assume the label on your glove should face down during the VLS?
Scott, this post made our day...thanks! Yes, the label on the club will rotate down slightly in the takeaway. The Vertical Line Swing continues to improve games....let's go!
Todd, looked at my old golf set and found my controller 17 degree driving iron. Ever play with one? Many, Many years ago, I couldn't hit a wood for the life of me so purchased a controller. Got pretty good with it. I will have to try it out with the senior vertical line golf swing. Keep up the great content.
Todd what irons are you using, I get tired of some people trying to tell me I can’t play a player’s iron. I really don’t like the big game improvement club heads. I’m a decent ball striker, just a little inconsistent. Thanks and great instructions.

Todd, I am a super senior golfer in St. Augustine, Florida, and I love your instructional videos. I am pulling a lot of my shots with all my clubs, and I'd like a drill (or drills) to correct my swing fault. Bill
Hi Todd, when you turn back your trailing hip, do you turn at the same level or do you turn up (inclined level) and then back. This is really something that I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you
Good question, the trail hip will rise slightly in the backswing. This helps set the proper tilts in the golf swing. We cover this in our book THE BAD LIE which you can find on Amazon if interested.
@@USGOLFTVshow I have also read your article from US Golf TV Short version. I remember last year I had many thin shots on the grass. Then, I put the ball slightly back and no thin shots. Really true. As far as I understand you do not prefer maintaining trailing knee flexibility but I guess somehow it has helped me. Great video!!! I do all those things! 31 years ago I was taught to do what you explained what one should do but throughout the years I was told to keep my head down, straight arm ect. No wonder my ball go nowhere or topped!! Thank you for solving my problem! Kind regards from South Africa!! 🥰⛳️🏌️♀️
Paula, now you are much wiser....with age comes wisdom my friend. How is golf in South Africa? One of my old golf mates at UNLV was from South Africa. Great guy and great player!!
great video. I will practice this right away. my problem is mainly with my drives. I cannot hit more than 160 yards with my driver. i tried everything with no avail. i wonder if the problem is with my age. I am a 74 year old Canadian ( snowbird between Toronto and Florida) with a 25 handicap.. any tip you can give me?
Thanks for asking. There are 3 power sources in the golf swing. We have an entire chapter on this in the Vertical Line Swing book. Here is the link if you are interested www.badliegolfbook.com/
Some of your outdoor tips have a microphone issue... gets scratchy when you move around. Love all your tips... have used a couple to make a real difference. Thanks! 😉⛳
Great vid! I have a youngster who tops, I always tell him when he does, just watch the ball until you hit it. I'll watch where it goes. 😉 Funny, he laughs -- but it usually works for a while.
Yes, in general this is true. If you would like to learn more, I cover all this in my book The Bad Lie. You can find it on Amazon here www.vlsgolfacademy.com/
Should have mentioned David Duval and Annika S. as an example of head not staying down. Should have mentioned when your let your left arm soft. Make sure you still keep width/daylight in your backswing. Let your right hip get higher on back swing. Fyi, John Jacobs taught swing arms 30 yrs ago.
hi todd, whenever i try to swing harder off the tee with my driver i can hook it 30 to 40 yards left of my target line. What,s' the cause? love your videos.. Paul NZ.
As a golfer getting back into it after some 40 years away and being a rank amateur, I've taken a few lessons and been watching a lot of videos to improve my game. From what I've seen, a strong grip is the main cause of hooking. Everything starts with the grip.
I am 63 and a plane crash survivor I have chronic pain in lower back messed up shoulder and plates in lower back and neck, my swing is to me mainly arms how can create more swing to make better contact with my clubs
Todd, 1. In this video, you are against keeping your head down, and still. Are you advocating that with putting as well? I have always been under the impression that you should. 2. What is your opinion on starting the backswing with a slight forward press of the club or the knee, or both?
Good questions, we like a "quite" head in the putting motion, not still but calm. Sometimes when we try to be too still we create tension which is killer for touch and feel. A little forward press in the golf swing is ok, however we prefer a little weight shift to kick start the swing.
Todd, When I was 55 yrs old I could drive the ball 260 yds. I am 6’2” and carried a 9 handicap. I am now 77 yrs old and cannot reach most of the par 4’s in 2 . My drives are now between 180 and 200 yds! And my handicap is 15. What should I spend my practice time on to better my scores?
James, good question. Spend time on your hybrids, chipping and lag putting. These are the areas of your game that will show the most change to your scores.
Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, David Duval looked like he would lift his head and look at the target just before impact with the ball. Was I just imagining that, or did others see that? To me it defied the “keep your head down”.
Here's a great video to help you with a proper shoulder turn, both in the backswing and downswing: ruclips.net/video/89qC67tBP0E/видео.html let us know if it helps!
This was a great video.....tons of info! One suggestion though it is very hard to see what your lower body is doing during the swing due to your black slacks and the black sign behind you...I know you want to promote you golf academy but, from your mid thighs down it's all black on black.
To continue, I have lost distance over the past 15 years, 100 yards from wedge to 8 iron. Your videos have helped me get some of that back. I have even been able to shoot my age and 1 under a few times lately. Golf is fun again. Thanks for your help. I will continue watching.
I've seen this "Keep your head down" is bad advice before. This demonstration is not what that means. If you look at professional golfers at the moment of impact, that is what is meant by keeping your head down, that is, focusing on the ball through impact. If you start "Looking at the ceiling" at impact, good luck. The problem is, it isn't just the head that you raise, but your shoulders as well. Everything about this video is about extremes. Locking your head, locking your left arm, locking your right leg (this one I've never heard before). Sure, you can't hit a golf ball like that. But at the moment of impact, your left arm is straight, your focus is on the ball. Why? for a consistent arc necessary for good ball striking. An exercise about head movement. Bend forward and place your head against a wall. Now, rotate your shoulders as far as you can as you would in a backswing. Now, look at this demonstration. The problem is not keeping the head down, the problem here is there is no shoulder/hip rotation. By the way, if you want to see "keep your left arm straight" extreme watch Bryson Dechambeau. (Don't try to copy it).
Good comment R G. Golfers have to be really careful ( I’m talking mid to high handicappers, and especially those just learning) not to over analyze and try and keep 10 steps / sequences in their swing and in executing shots. Keep it basic and simple, and the rest should come naturally. Oh and guys my age (50+),.... don’t watch slo mos of Rory and those lads and try to emulate their swings. My two cents.
When I clicked on this I thought, set up, now I note that at address your club is straight, you dont have your hands in front of the ball at take away. Every other instructor does, but you dont talk about it. Why?
I have noticed that you and other pro golfers don't wear glasses. With bifocals it may be harder to keep from dropping your chin to see the ball. Could you maybe comment on this? Thank you like all your lessons.
I stopped to watch this video after I read the title. I’m 50 now and I need more distance and a little better accuracy!! I wish I was 20 again!!😎💪🏌️♂️🏌️♂️🏌️♂️🏌️♂️

To many instructors cannot teach individuals, they only know what they know.
Hi Todd. I am reading David Leadbetter's book The A Swing. What is your opinion of this method? Thanks.
Solid system. However we prefer our own book 😂 www.badliegolfbook.com/
what do think of using the baseball grip for experienced golfers? I heard that it it helps increase speed. what is your thiought on this?
It can work. Just be careful it to get your hands too far separated
great video.
Thanks! 😉⛳

How are you doing today?
I will like to be friend with you if you don't mind?
I bought the Bad Lie and decided to start VLS. Does ball position at address change?
Thanks for the purchase. 👍 Ball position stays the same other than for the driver.
Great video as always do and your company run class at different areas from Massachusetts
Drop us a note at info@usgolftv.com
Will u lose distance and will this work for driver
Great vid! I have a youngster who tops, I always tell him when he does, just watch the ball until you hit it. I'll watch where it goes. 😉 Funny, he laughs -- but it usually works for a while.
You got this!
Do you take the woods back with your glove logo facing out also, keeping the hands outside of your body?
Yes, in general this is true. If you would like to learn more, I cover all this in my book The Bad Lie. You can find it on Amazon here www.vlsgolfacademy.com/
Just subscribed thank you sir
Awesome! Welcome to the group...
yes, you ARE putting out great content all the time! thank you 🙏
We got you! 👊
Good advice! If you’ll notice, those restrictive swings are all arm swings. Relax & let the head move & you are hitting with your hands.

Todd, I assume I can use this with a slightly open stance?
Yep, that works.
Jeff, Duval and Annika are two all time greats as is Mr. Jacobs...we have one of his first books.
Good vid. Those are the top 3 suggestions. Overdone they can screw you up. If any one of those is stiff, it affects the others!
hi todd, whenever i try to swing harder off the tee with my driver i can hook it 30 to 40 yards left of my target line.
I've been hitting a lot of fat shots do you have any suggestions !
Make sure your weight gets into your lead foot at impact
I am 63 and a plane crash survivor I have chronic pain in lower back messed up shoulder and plates in lower back and neck, my swing is to me mainly arms how can create more swing to make better contact with my clubs
Todd,

Great swings have minimal supination&pronation; wrist action is mainly ulnar & radial deviation.
We agree....simple is always better.
how do you hit a ball out of tall grass off the fairway (couple of inches) Iam left handed and the ball goes to the left.
Dale, tough to give good insights without seeing the actual swing. I would start with reading our book The Bad Lie www.badliegolfbook.com/
@@USGOLFTVshow Given the reduced distance, does it help to try and swing faster?

I have all hybrids from 4 through wedge how come I still hit behind the ball
Here's a great lesson we just did on topping fairway woods, a lot of the info will help with hybrids as well: ruclips.net/video/AETp6WIpmSY/видео.html
5 minute video that required 10 minutes. good lesson Todd
Ok I just found your site by accident. I’m a senior who has lost his confidence with the irons. Hopefully you guys can help me
You came to the right place Pat! What is your biggest struggle with irons?
Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, David Duval looked like he would lift his head and look at the target just before impact with the ball. Was I just imagining that, or did others see that? To me it defied the “keep your head down”.
You are spot on. Duval had that move....
Liking your tips. However my backswing is flat and no matter what I do I cannot get the club to be more vertical. ☹
Take a look at our other Vertical Line Videos for guidance
Start doing yoga stretches for golf then Zimbabwe for timing or even a well timed half swing is better than a clumsy overstretch.
My spellchecker Zumba it's meant to read
My biggie is hitting behind the ball. My right shoulder dips down on the down swing and I can’t seem to figure it out.
Here's a great video to help you with a proper shoulder turn, both in the backswing and downswing: ruclips.net/video/89qC67tBP0E/видео.html
let us know if it helps!
I agree with chin up eyes down.
Boom, we are in agreement there! Here is another great video to watch on this subject ruclips.net/video/13VQy_yYZt4/видео.htmlsi=SnbKcTK-fP1bybd_
This was a great video.....tons of info!
One suggestion though it is very hard to see what your lower body is doing during the swing due to your black slacks and the black sign behind you...I know you want to promote you golf academy but, from your mid thighs down it's all black on black.
Butch, fair and solid feedback....thanks!
I am 82 years old, 5'6", 145 lbs.
To continue, I have lost distance over the past 15 years, 100 yards from wedge to 8 iron. Your videos have helped me get some of that back. I have even been able to shoot my age and 1 under a few times lately. Golf is fun again. Thanks for your help. I will continue watching.

I can hit the 8 iron but the 7 gives me trouble

I do mean starting with the weight on the trail foot.
Best to start with 60% lead and 40% trail foot

Your restricting your hips on your last shot.. What you say is not real in your feel or what your doing .
Every shot that you hit that pure your head did not move beyond the ball before impact
Why?
Best advice my pro gave me was to try to throw my pecker down towards the flag. For me, this makes everything come together without overthinking it.
But sometimes when I move my body, I top my ball😅
👏👏👏👍
I have noticed that you and other pro golfers don't wear glasses. With bifocals it may be harder to keep from dropping your chin to see the ball. Could you maybe comment on this? Thank you like all your lessons.
Good question. You are correct, most golfers do not wear glasses while they play as it weather conditions and other factors can make this a challenge.
I'm having trouble getting out of the bunker
We have a full bunker series on our channel or you can get all the details in our new book The Bad Lie
Great advice, dispels a lot of bad instruction.
