Done
Dowel jig is the tool🔥. Pocket drill jig also works in that application but uses screws, no dowel required. Perhaps a lockable toolbox so puppet hands can't do any more damage.😂
Thank you Phil 😂
So i guess vacuuming the cratch covers could be classed as a clash of the titans
Brilliant 😂😂 I actually didnt realise till after that both were Titans....how stupid of me 😂😂
LMAO! Good one! 😂
The Titan is back from rehab! LoL. All that fame and fortune went to his head for sure. 😄
Very very talented. I can’t even put the blade in a jigsaw the right way round and then wonder why it won’t cut ! Don’t laugh 😂. Great vlog.
Hahahaha!!! Aww, don't worry it took me a while to work that one out too 😜
Nice one looking good Becks ..Chris you are defo the hatch man it’s good of you to let becks have a go at one 🤣🤣🎸🔧✌️
exactly...at what point did Bex start claiming my hatch fame 😂😂
Well done Becks surprised you let Chris hoover the new covers had pics of him slipping and putting the hoover through whow so glad it was ok lol the oldies 🤗🤗
Oh no could you imagine 😂😂 Becks done so well...im so proud of here, Thanks for the support ❤️😊
Oww becks , I love the extra bit of trim you slipped in on the cover , looks soo much better , can’t you teach your bloke a bit of DIY skills ??? 😂😂😂😂
not a bad shout at all
Chaaaoossss. How about interviewing the neighbours? What’s it like living next door to Wombat. 🎉
😂😂😂 now that would be funny
Great job, Bex. I love your determination and perseverance.
Fab to see the return of the Titan!
And Chris, without all your hard work holding that camera, we would have nothing to look forward to on a Monday. You do a very important job 😉 😆
Couldn’t have said it better myself! ☺️
Thank you so much, im so chuffed with how its coming along 🥰😀
Hello Becca and Chris.
Becca is amazing., Everything she does is amazing. There is nothing that Becca can't do. Becca is such a professional. Becca is great at teaching us DIY. In fact, Becca is Superwoman. Becca your floor hatch looks amazing.
Chris you are amazing too. You and the Titan looked amazing together. Loved the Titan Montage with all the effects added, you are an excellent editor and so very creative.
I liked the way you cleaned the cratch covers, to make it a more special place for Mummy and Daddy spiders to have their children. The trouble is, The Mommy Spider then eats the Daddy Spider once the babies arrive. There must be a moral in there somewhere. So if you see loads of Baby Spider shortly, you will know that most of the Adult Spiders you see will be lady Spiders.
Excellent Vlog. Thank you both very much. All the best. Spoolbox
Thank you so much, Doesn't she do an amazing job, full of ideas that girl. Next step to get the floor oiled up unsealed...then finally we will have our kitchen floor complete. It had been a while since mr Titan came out...so thought id have a bit fun with it 😂 it is very very silly , Thanks for all the love and support 😀😊
One tip for filling gaps in wood - mix PVA glue with the fluffy sanded wood dust. Fill the holes. Allow to dry and then sand. The pva will dry clear and the wood dust will blend in very well. But great job regardless! The project turned out great! 😊
Thank you for this, such a handy bit of advice 😊❤️
in my opinion, it was just the length of the dowels that held the edge pieces off that bit Do worry we have all done it at some point, and as usual the end result was very good. well done
thats a very good point, thank you
Bex is the new handy Andy lol
yayyyyy love it 😂😊
Dowelling is very hard to do without a jig. You can make one or they are pretty cheap to buy. If you had bottomless pockets it you would buy a Domino, but they are silly money.
Yes!! It definitely is. It would probably take seconds with the right equipment. It's just having the money to buy all these bits of equipment. Least it gets the old cogs working trying to figure out how to do things with alternative equipment!!!!
I check back in with you guys once in a while. Beck (Becs? Becks? Beccs? Bex?) says you are on the home stretch now? I look forward to seeing you guys travel!
Thank you so much, I know its been a long old journey , we will get there
Cheeky thumbnail change. You two are brilliant & your refit odyssey is life doing life things & I’m learning so much. You got this!
well noticed 😂😂, yes we had a few to play around with, thanks for watching us on this big project
Great work Bex!!! You are the ProBot! Have to say you will have the cleanest stern and bow now that you have the cratch and pram covers. Thanks goodness Chris has arachnophobia 🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️ 🕷️ 😱 I can definitely relate to that! Keep the Titan handy!
🤗😊 Kathy
Thanks Kathy, im very protective of our new covers now...it was nice to make the 2 Titans finally meet 😂😂 what is it with spiders and boats???😂
@@TheNomadicCrobot I don’t know, but I they scare the daylights out of me!!! Stay safe, keep vacuuming!! 😊🤗 Kathy
Beccs, your talent has no bounds! You never cease to amaze me. Well done! 👍😊
Wow, thank you! 😊❤️
If you don't want to buy a proper doweling jig, make a dowel-and-dirty one by cutting a small thick block of hardwood that you slide across the edge of your board. Drill through the block at the proper dowel height for your edge and then use it as a guide to drill the dowel holes. The thickness of the block can set the hole depth as well.
Thats so interesting, thank you so much for your tips, ill be sure to try them out 😊❤️❤️
Good job Becs, looks great, fortunately you had Chris with his superior DIY experience and expertise supervising :-) love you two :-)
Well this is it!!! Thanks so much 😊
😊Hi Guys just jumped in to say hello and Again looking great on your vlog on the hatch cover, Again Bex showing her Talented DIY Masterclass with her Apprentice Chris.😮😊 ❤
Bex is amazing, so talented bless her, so lucky to have all her ideas brought to the project, Thanks John 😊😀
Bex I thought you'd use glue mixed with sawdust to fill the gaps then after it was dry you'd sand it smooth. But this is probably a better job!
That's a great way to do it but I felt the gaps were just too big!! Thanks so much 😊
Another amazing job Bex, and Chris your complement, great editing. Though seriously you really do a great job editing these fabulously entertaining videos. Guess what? I’m 75 this month and for the first time in my life I won something, I won a UV resin light on a craft RUclips channel, yeah I’m as happy as. OK guys the hatch is brilliant as is the video. Have a great day and see you next week. 💕
Thank you Pauline, that means alot, Bless you, we both have out roles in this adventure, wow...thats so cool...Happy Birthday for this month, have a lovely week ❤️😊🥰
Thank goodness for your steady hand Chris,, the girl would be lost otherwise
see I have my uses 😂😂
If you used a couple of sash clamps it would have pulled the pieces together and there wouldn't have been any gaps. Great video though....please build a bed next......save living on the floor 😂
I did try using some clamps to close the gaps but I couldn't get them to sit correctly. I think because some of the wood had been cut by jigsaw as at the time of originally doing it I didn't have a mitre saw they weren't completely straight edges which contributed to the gaps and thus wouldn't fully pull together. Always much harder doing things retrospectively!!! Hahaha!!! On it!!! 🤣
Great job becs, the best pva glue is TITEBOND its so strong, stronger than the wood itself, i build Guitars and for the body i can glue 2 halves with titebond, clamp it up overnight and i would not even need to put any dowells or joints... give it a try. All the best. John.
Oh wow! Il have to check that out. It sounds amazing! Thanks so much 😊
I just love you guys. So entertaining with all you do. One thing that has been on my mind for some time is why you have not repaired or installed the bow thruster?
we would love to actually, and always intended to just not really near a boating yard that could do it, its something that would be so useful to have working, thank you for all the support 😊😀
How much would it cost do you know? I am sure it would be so useful for you guys. If you can have it done at some time I will be happy to provide a reasonable contribution. ❤
Take apart before glue sets cut dowels down some
Thank you
Nice work sorting the hatch Becs, the kitchen is finally completed, well done guys
yayyy another one off the tick list, Thanks Gary
You guys are definitely coming up in the world.
The ads always used to be for various tawdry forgettable things (and to be honest, most of them still are), but the algorithms don't lie. Last week featured an ad for Rona (a Canadian version of something like an upscale B & Q). This week, it's Lee Valley Tools. Another Canadian retailer, but a highly respected one that offers all kinds of amazing woodworking tools. I realize the ads that appear have to do with subject, but when the You Tube gods connect (or confuse?) the Amazing Crobots with fine woodworking, it can't help but be a good thing. Lee Valley would be a candy shop for Bex.
haha well that must be a good sign, Thanks so much for letting us know 😊❤️
Hatch looks brilliant now Becca, well worth the effort, certainly getting your money out of the new sander, lmao.😂
haha thats so funny, yes quite a few people have had problems with it but with the correct settings is quite fun, thank you Claire x
What happening Crobot long time no see. Ive been on a youtube break but im back. I was thinking if you put small steel L backtes on the back of the edge it should help keep them together without being seen from the top or front. Becks will be spinning the sander by the cord before you know it!!!
Hi and welcome back, yes we havent quite set of yet, hope your well, Thats actually a really great idea thank you 😊❤️
Biscuit jointer .. mentioned it ages ago . But looks good though hope it lasts this time
Yes I think I remember, I did look into one I just didn't have the money to buy one at the mo so trying to find other ways to do stuff! Thanks so much 😊
you got gaps because you marked the dowel holes wrong ,before taking it apart you should have marked a line across both pieces of wood,at the same time and marking it with a/a b/b etc so sides match up , ,so when taking it apart and you drilled the holes r holes would have lined up ,,a slight measuring mistake gets magnified ,you need a profession in lol
This is very true!! Trouble is the several of the edge pieces were pretty much hanging off so weren't in the fully correct position anyway, plus I didn't actually think to do that at the time too 🤣😉 Who needs a professional!!! Haha!!! Gives me a chance to learn and improve on my limited skills!! 😜
Very nice work!!! Doing all you do with a minimal amount of tools is fantastic! I know it’s so rewarding to you. True craftsman.
Thank you so much 😊❤️🥰
Bex, We wholeheartedly acknowledge your hatch proclivity. Well done! You are unquestionably the Queen of All Hatches. But, what about the calorifier? Is it still in the box? Personally, we can't fathom going the entire winter without hot water. We now think of you pair as the Cool Water Crobots.
Hello Chris! Don't be so hard on yourself dude. When you live with a star like Bex you have to adjust to life in her shadow. We have both learned to peer-thru your crusty exterior mask and see beyond our first impressions of you as a Spanner Spinning Monkey and discover the thoughtful sensitive person inside. We love you Chris.
Of all the great narrowboat channels that we watch, we think that you two most match our personalities and temperament.
xo
Thank you, Bex has done such a great job with alot of the parts on the boat, im feeling more useless every day 😂😂 Thats such a lovely thing to say thank you so much for all the love and support ❤️😊🥰
Hi just want to say I have watched you both from the start. In my really down days you both made me smile . Thanks for that just love you two. Give me a shout when you on Huddersfield narrow canal. I have lived on my boat nearly 8 years on my own . Xx
Aww that's so lovely. Thank you for your kind comment. We are glad to bring some smiles your way when you watch us. Oh wow, another fellow boat owner. We definitely will. Take care and have a lovely week Tracey xx
That's such a good hatch. Well done, guys. I bet your rivers in flood. Never seems to stop raining..😢😢❤❤😂
Cheers Will, Bex is s handy, the rivers gone mad again, what a weird start to the year, safe travels ❤️😀
Get yourself a shop vac and connect to your sander helps
owwww interesting
Bex: get yourself a dowel jig, and a pocket hole jig while you're at it. They will make your life much easier. There are special machines for that but they're EX-PEN-SI-VE (don't look at the price of Festool Domino Jointer). Might consider a cheap biscuit jointer if you're planning on building much more furniture.
And I'll repeat the tip for for filling holes: once you put glue in the holes, get the sander and sand the area while the glue is still wet - this will push sawdust into the glue and make the filling much less visible.
Chris: I need your opinion on Titan bars from Aldi.
haha...Im not actually sure I have ever tried a Titan bar from Aldi...though I find it slightly offensive comparing my child the Titan to a chocolate bar 😂😂
Bex has done such a great job with all her DIY, thanks for all the advices will pass it on to her, have a lovely week 😊
@@TheNomadicCrobot The Titan bar is a good approximation of a Mars, just cheaper and named after the mighty Titan of course - think of it as a tribute, not comparison 😁
I'm waiting for the rest of the calirifier story, a pocket hole jig would be useful for that!
Good to see the Titan in action again and Chris looking after the cratch and pram covers. Another great job from Bex or should I say probot ❤
😂😂 It had been a while...I felt sorry for him, Thanks Lisa hope you guys are well 😊❤️😀
Great job Becks xx
Thank you 😊
Satisfying!
Now you are two hatchers onboard!
Apart from the ducks around you ...
Bless you, were getting better I think??
Those Dowels were long but it’s retrofit Bex, after all it s not an ikea flat pack 🤣🤣👍🏼
Hahah!! They were so long!!!! I thought that plus I have no idea what I'm doing most the time so learning on the job!! 😅🤣
That's was awesome to watch, got some great skills there, absolutely brilliant bit of hoovering. Bex you did a canny job too 😉
glad im starting to get some respect 😂😂
You did a sweet job on the hatch 😊
Thank you 😊❤️
Also I think you would look good with the titan tattoo
Now were talking 😂😂😂🥰🥰
@@TheNomadicCrobot really think you should get it done. Lol
The master and the apprentice, the sith Lords of boating
😂😂 love it....spot on
Chris, you are great mate. You put Bex on the map.😂
exactly 😂😂😂😂🤔
Well as it's in the kitchen floor you should use biscuits in the joints. 🙂
ahhh thats interesting thanks 😊
Great video keep up the great work both not long before you are out on the cut. 😜👍
surely cant be to long now thanks Garry 😀🥰
Do you have a long handled net or do you prefer to jump in to pick out the parts of your tools that you juggle around with
now there's an idea 😂😂
Another great video 😊 your hatch looks brilliant nice job
Thank you so. much 😊❤️
Also with Chris hoovering all the spiders up then takingTtitan back inside just to release them as they will crawl back up the hoover spelt and escape when Chris is asleep😅
🤣🤣🤣
The Titan actually sits next to my head in bed too 😳
@@TheNomadicCrobot 🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🙀😱🙀😱🙀😱🕸🕸🕸🕸🕸🕸🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷😵💫LOL
You could put some mental trim around the inside of the hatch, keep the sticking from the swelling to a minimum
That's a good idea. Thanks for sharing x
What I would have done before you took it apart I would have drilled each side then you wouldn't have had to line up and they would have been like it was before but tight just a thought😊
Thats so interesting, thank you 😊❤️
Tidy job Becs ❤
Thank you 😊❤️
Becks, you are a little gem. Chris, you are a B>>>>>.. Big W>.*^%$& why are you not watching and learning. OMG, come on geezer, man up she is a bloody marvel. Well done Becks.
I dont know how we all put up with him 😂😂😂 Thank you Terry
Well done Rebecca, great job.
Thank you 😊❤️
Chris you rock :)
Thanks Andy thats so kind of you 😊😀🥰
Haha before you turn 100 , you’re running out of time ! At this rate 😂😂😂
It's getting close 🤣
Well done cris you done something without breaking it and becca needed some claps that should of closed up the gaps on the hach
finally 😂😂 hasn't Bex done amazing....again 😊❤️😀
I guess i had a nap.
Always nice to see the probot getting down to grind some wood lol. Oops soz bex
😂😂 brilliant
You needed a drill press, too little, too late. Also number the boards to get them back in the same position. Chuffed!
No, she doesn't need a drill press, a dowel jig would do just fine, cost less and take up much less space. It's a narrowboat, not a woodworking workshop.
Thats Interesting, Thank you
ahhh ok
Another great video
Thank you Nick
Yes you can get proper doweling tools.
Thanks Martin 😊
Did you , Chrissy crobot, say no one compliments you !!!! Oh no my friend I beg to differ !! I’ve complimented you I’m sure you little bugger you ! lol you both do your bit ! Love you guys, see ya on the next one ! Xxxx
you have Mandy bless you, and Thank you 😊😊 I was just winding Bex up a bit 😂😂 hope your well ❤️😀
@@TheNomadicCrobot bless ya !! lol x
Sorry Chris, but once again Becs rules........She's a keeper.....😀😀😀
didn't She do amazing, such a hard working girl, time to start upping my game
Bex the hatch Queen and Chris the spider King 😅
pretty spot on.....but dont you remember my hatches too?? 😂😂
Hahaha no only your botches...🤣 Only kidding Chris 🤛@@TheNomadicCrobot
You need a couple of sash cramps
owwwww ok, thanks
When you join timber together you need pressure for the glue to take properly
Thanks
Thank you so much, so so kind of you 😊❤️❤️🥰
I live in a place where narrowboats aren't a big thing but boating is. So my question may seem stupid but I just don't know. Would your boat make it to the isle of man to visit your brother or are they just not built for waters like that?
Yes you could take a narrowboat to the Isle of Man but you would have to watch the weather conditions before you left people take them across the channel and across the wash after checking the weather carefully
some people have traveled across the Irish Sea but you would probably have to do it with caution and plan it mega properly, I can imagine it could be quite dangerous without the right skills...oh and enough diesel 😂😂😂 could you imagine that
thats so interesting....would make for a cracking video
Just dont let Chris drive the boat if you ever do it lol @@TheNomadicCrobot
Narrowboats are barges, they have a flat bottom with no keel so they don't behave well on choppy open waters.
Some people have taken narrowboats to sea but it's a risky procedure that requires skill and caution.
❤
Remind me to never lend you any corded tools
😂😂😂
what about the flange?
what flange?
Xx
Master Carpenter
Bless you, Thanks 😊
Not to be mean but you should of ask pop for help but it's done and functional all the best
not a bad shout 😂 Thanks Mike
PROBOT...Dave Grohls most excellent solo venture/album featuring many guest artists and tracks done in the style of their bands. Check it out guys, tis bloody briliant! 😎✌
of course it is, a great album by what I remember , Thanks 😀👍
@@TheNomadicCrobot A pleasure, you guys always get me smiling! Fave track on it...Shake Your Blood with the legend that is Lemmy! Cheers 🍻✌😎
Nice ;-)
Thanks 😊😊
Bex - You are a clever girl!! But that glue on the hatch would not hold HARDWOOD - Better to use two part marine glue for hardwood. Also there are special Doweling Guides available, in case you should do any more doweling.. But dowels and two pack epoxy glue would be bullet proof....even Crobot or Probot proof! Have fun, John
Thanks so much John, this is all really useful to know. Thanks for mentioning it all. Il definitely remember for the future 😊
To glue hardwood, like oak or teak there is only one choice - Two Pack Epoxy, nothing else seems to work. The dowels should hold that hatch together for at least the time being though. Good luck and twigless canals folks!! John
Tupak for sure
Two pack epoxy for the future it is!
Nice Job Bex…. That looks Mint.
Wombat has taught you loads since you got it. Well done you. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you, it certainly has. She has been very kind in that way 😉 I love an opportunity to learn so I'm relishing in it 😊
God you two are getting worse or is some rubbing of on you to much lol 😂
your not wrong 😂😂
Please, please, I implore you TIE YOUR HAIR BACK when doing DIY.
