    I don’t know if anyone else have told you this. Place conkers around your boat. For some reason spiders don’t like them. Works in my home. Just put them in little tubs. Love the channel.

    That bush is ivy and at this time of the year it’s one of the few plants that provide nectar for insects. So you will get butterflies,wasps honey bees, solitary bees, hover flies and a host of other nectar seeking insects including moths. Happy cruising Phil.

    If it's fire rated board can be handibacker or aqua board both cement based boarding . You can tile directly onto them . I've always found natural stone and slate more resistant to heat .

    I installed mine with calcium silicate board, 25mm thick with a 10mm gap as per the HEATAS recommendation. The board needs coating on one side with PVA and the tiles were stuck on and grouted with high temperature silicone from Vitcas. The top of your flue where it passes through the ceiling needs the timber cutting back and covering with a thin steel plate. It's called a register plate and is available on flea bay for around a tenner.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  10 месяцев назад +1

      thats interesting, thanks for the insight, the register plate sounds essential too, will defo need one of them , so lucky to have such knowledgeable comments like this cheers 😀

      I have to agree with this method. As per my own comment, I am concerned that you have installed plaster board (fire resistant) but it is time rated, and likely for 30 to 60 mins only…

    When i did my fire i used hardy board 6mm and another fire board vermiculite 20mm if i remember. So 26mm of heat sheild. Then i used porcelin floor tiles. It does get bloody behind my fire. When i stripped it had normal tiles on top of just ply board. Friggin death trap. All the board had gone black behind the tiles. Good luck rippers. 🫵👍👍

    I'm a beekeeper, that bush is Ivy and there are flowers on it which give a large amount of nectar and pollen, this is the last food the bees, honey or wild gather before the winter. They get very excited about it. No nest, just good food.
    I've 2 stoves and a range, here in Ireland our rules are probably different to UK but, here we can't have wood in a "combustible" distance from the appliance-stove or flue. Have you looked at "The boat that James built" - installing his wood stove, its fully compliant and he does explain the UK rules and about those who already have stoves installed and those doing work on them. It would be sh*te to have to take the stove out again to pass the safety test. I think there wasn't any insulation between the lower board and the bow thruster, putting insulation there, any old bit to fill the gap would help stop condensation. Fitting the fire correctly is going to be one of the hardest things you do, and you are thinking safety so that a great start. Looking forwards to next video.

    Well, the way i look at it, you will need a bend in the pipe/chimney and put the stove a little forward. Also you should inform the need of a valve in the pipe. It will give more economical burning and ingreace? the heat.
    Just paint the fireboard after cementing the corners or use fireproof caulking. Saves a lot of time. You can always tile later, for insance, after you had a hot shower??
    In the Netherlands we insulate behind the stove with stonewoll. ( no glasswoll ) Its very heat resistent and when youre not out bij 2000 degrees celsius, you won't make it anyway.
    Loved the video again, good luck you two and all my blessings.

    Hi Becca, Chris, loving this week's Vlog. I have learnt a lot this week about a stove and the the said installation on a narrow-boat. You both could make excellent training videos as a side line?, As always Becca explains everything to us which is great. Spiders Yikes!!!! I try and keep away from Bees as well. I liked how you cut up the fire safety wood in the Wickes Car Park, without a care in the world that people were watching. I reckon they were thinking, "Wish we had the guts to do that". Loving the edit and the audio effects which are always so good, and with two helpings of the "Dramatic Music", I'm in heaven! Well done Becca, Chris for getting the stove back in place and then leaving us all on a knife's edge until next week!!!! Take Care. Thank you - Spoolbox

    I know you've heard it but there are multiple reasons for not using plasterboard for me the absorbing moisture out of the air causing the boards to swell and distort, breaking the tile adhesive which is rigid and eventually causing the wall to collapse. It's great in static homes it doesn't like vibration.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  10 месяцев назад

    I used a 28 gauge sheet of tin on each side of the stove w/ 3 cm opening top & bottom for air flow - held in place by screws in 1/4 inch x 5 cm pipe - also consider installing a cool air vent so the stove will not be sucking heated air up the chimney - DIY is trial & error

    Worried you have used plasterboard. It’s a fire board for between buildings. To help keep a fire with in an area for 30 mins (till fire brigade arrive).
    Stoves need cement board. You used knauf board but the knauf aqua panel is cement board that you can tile on.

    The air gap behind your Fire Board is not a BSS check
    The BSS checks relating to your solid fuel burner are:-
    Is it secure and in good condition (not obviously cracked etc...)
    Are the surrounding structures free of signs of heat damage
    Is the flue in good condition
    does the flue exit the boat directly to outside air
    You will need a CO alarm in the same cabin that the stove resides in.
    👍

    Always better to be safe than sorry where fire safety and safety in general is concerned! 🤗
    I absolutey love bees 🐝 🌺They’re fascinating little creatures! Without them humans would be a bit f*cked as they pollinate so many of our crops!
    And…. Arrrrrgh 😱 The Wicker Man! I’m Scottish and that film used to scare the wits out of me when I was younger! Especially that ending! 🫣 I used to imagine it actually happening (which, tbf, it probably did or at least something similar many moons ago) somewhere up in the Highlands and Islands! 😂 I was terrified on the camping holidays I used to go on! 🤣

    If it’s not too late go get some cement board. Use that plasterboard some other place. It’s classed as a flammable product. The paper WILL burn and then plaster will sag. You really do need cement board

    It's a pain but at least it's not as bad as a car mot, well ventilated gas locker with bottom drainage, all the gas/fuel pipes had to be clipped every so many cm's..I think the worst part was the engine area having to be clean :D you're always doing a proper job wot with Bex attention to detail and determination. It's definitely a boat with history in the making and many years of life in the old girl yet..saved by your good selves. I am pretty sure that you guys bought fire resistant plaster board.
    And I am also pretty sure that you should have bought fire board from vitcas. The plaster board is meant for a wall that needs a fire rating and the fire board is for around your fire or log burner. (This said, I wasn’t exactly sure what it was that you bought, but it did look like red fire rated plaster board) 🤔🤔🤔

    Lower walls, get rid of the wood, just have the calsium cilicate board (didn't know you could get it in wickes ) and air gap. Upper walls, leave wood as is, use a twin wall flu.

    • @philelliott5327
      @philelliott5327 10 месяцев назад

      I really don't like the twin wall flue. It costs too much and the roof collars look terrible. It loses too much radiant heat up the chimney. When the internal flue rots through, which it will, the fumes leak into the outer skin which is not sealed and fumes get into the boat!😮

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  10 месяцев назад

      yes I feel we may have needed a calsium board, back to the drawing board...yes we also need an insulted flue too, the wood has started to burn so we a bit worried it will get picked up on the Bss, thanks for you comment dude 😀😀

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  10 месяцев назад

      thats right, we have quite a lot of heat scaring (is that the right wording) to the walls...and know that this could be a problem for the BSS and better yet us, so we wanted to make it safer really and make it look cool too 😀
