The red/maroon colour for me… or the navy!
You pair are COMPLETELY mental in a “We’re all
mad here!” kinda way… Love it! 😂… 🌻xx
haha thanks, yes im thinking maybe navy could be the way to go :)
Hi Becca, Chris. Good to see no advancement of any water this week. Well done Chris, your Duck Hatches are coming along really well. Very sensible to pull your boat over to the other side of the berth to do the other hatches. Becca your work tops are beyond amazing. You two guys are beyond amazing too. Always a great pleasure to watch the both of you. Another excellent Vlog this week. Really enjoyable. Thank you. Have a great week. Take care.
yes it must mean its coming from the leaky hatch from rain not the river hopefully . yes were getting there with the hatches...it was fun getting stuck in, thanks so much for joining us on this new adventure take care :)
L O V E the countertops - just lovely! Can't wait for their updates. Navy for the covers - perfect for your boats color palette. Keep up the good work - Your "floaty" home will be worth it!
we will get there, navy seams popular too, the tops are amazing bex has done such an amazing job, thank you :)
Hi Becca and Chris, the worktop looks great and the doors are moving along. They are going to look great and add to the your homes fresh new look.☺️ Sending positive vibes. Hope you have some fun🥳
awww thank you for you lovely positive vibes...they have been working a treat :)
Becca those kitchen work tops look great can’t wait for the finished look. Get in there Chris your having a go. Those hatches will look great. Think you both great as I’ve said before enjoy going on the journey with you both.
thanks so much for your kind support always, meccas work tops are really coming on great, I can't wait to get that butler sink plumbed in :)
As always , great content…. You are so lucky to have Becks on the DIY ,,,she’s a natural…….
Your making some great progress too been with you guys since day 1 .. I’m local to where you are having the boat taking from the water ,, I’m 5 mins from foxes marina
Thank you, it will all start coming together very soon, she really is a natural, she’s amazing, thanks for supporting us from the beginning it’s always lovely having the same faces watch our journey, it won’t always be a rusty adventure haha oh amazing… yea we’re heading there soon… it takes a week to travel there for us but will a good chance to take the boat out and get a feel of the rivers again, take care 😀
You two are fantastic! We have been watching you from the start, so funny 😆 definitely navy blue
Aww thanks so much for your support, yes navy seams the popular choice :)
More like Becs coming into the kitchen and catching YOU stroking the wood in the middle of the night 🤣
haha exactly...I can't keep m hands off it haha :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot 🤣 It doesn’t change when you’re in your 50’s either!
navy would look great love how your kitchen is coming along
thank you :)
Becca’s kitchen worktop is fab. I like the bright blue (navy) cover, cheerful! Is anyone going to mention the feet, head, feet head sleeping arrangements😂🤣 yooose two must have feet of aromatic delights 🥰 or noses blocked from all that hard work and rust destroyer!
Yes I think the navy seams like a good safe option, yeah I know haha… we’ve started doing it because it gives me a bit more room though I might try to revert back once we have the proper bed, I did wonder what people would be thinking haha
Hi I've been following you two throughout all the ups and downs on your narrow boat, what a challenge it's been! Becca have you done an apprenticeship in any trade skills as you are very hands on and aren't afraid to have a go at anything and you are doing a great job of the worktop, impressive stuff! and Chris you are getting stuck in too. I will be following you guys all the way, Good Luck ! Bazza
it really has been but slowly things a re coming together, becca is extremely handy to have she's amazing, thanks so much for your kind support :)
Another great vlog loving the worktops 👍
thank you David :)
I would go with navy for the covers. Great vlog guys all this hard work is paying off for you🙂
thanks, navy gets my say :)
It’s starting to come together now, looking fantastic
slowly but surly...cheers Shane , hopefully the lock wall oped soon so we can get cruising :)
Love ya guys..catch ya 13th hopefully Chris x
awesome mr Hamond book me in :)
The burned wood effect is really nice. It's like the Japanese art of yakasugi! Another really creative idea, love it!
Thank you, bex is full of ideas she’s amazing 😀
Good to see things are moving on. I would Seal all the edges of that Plywood ( and the Back) before you glue them into place. Plywood end grain , will soak-up water like a Sponge . As for the Covers for the Front and Back of the Boat .Remember dark colours will absorb more Heat from the Sun. Worktops are looking great Bec . Have Fun !
yes I think that's a good idea, yes we did think the darker colours could attract more heat but its a tiny space, and our boat is already so bright haha thanks so much
Very good job the only way to learn is to do. It will be a nice boat when you are done. The best part is you did it.
exactly..it will be amazing thanks so much :)
Navy with red stitching. Well done Becks. Really smart work tops. Coming together now. Nice
owww interesting with red sticking...you could be onto something here Will...we can tell your a professional narrowboater
@@TheNomadicCrobot pffft really..
I like the idea of navy with red stitching too! Great idea Narrowboat Will! X
I say go with the navy blue for the covers! I love your channel, guys!!!!
I agree. Black or navy (or any, really) will fade a bit in the sun, but I feel like black would show it more. (and algae, dirt, etc.)
thank you, navy seams to be the way to go currently :)
Great worktops. Using the chisel bevel down should make it easier to cut the mortises. Can”t wait to see them finished.
thanks so much John were getting there :)
Navy though I liked the maroon. One your pieces of wood are the correct size. Put crayon or pastel is better on the end of those metal spikes on your hatch doors. Press your wood against it and you'll get the position for the placement holes.
Sorry Chris but it's nice to see someone else getting measurement stuff ups. No matter how careful I try I usually end up needed to do more than one cut! Sigh
Becca look at an epoxy or marine poly for your bench tops. The soft wood will need the protection.
yes navy seams a safe choice :) oh thank you beck had mentioned that, at least they were bigger and not too small hey haha yes I think we will be coating them too, many thanks for your advice and kind input :)
Navy love your vlogs xx
thank you :)
I'm voting for navy. Absolutely love the zigzagging on the counter top, brilliant job :) we've almost finished our first week on our boat, 20 down 170 miles to go, xx
yes navy a great shout, thanks amazing how are you finding it??? thanks so much :)
That red looks pretty good too!!!
yeah I like it, its only that it may be red over load... can you have to much red??
10/10😊 I've got to hand it to you for commitment perseverance and mental Endurance p.s. navy blue every time
yay to navy, thanks so much :) will get there
NAVY for sure. The cuntertop is awesome..
thank you
You guys are amazing ! How yous only have 4.8k subs is a mystery though
awww that's nice, thanksssss your to kind :)
Navy, its more nautical in my mind.
Hey that top looks flipping great! Well done.
yes navy does seam like it would tie in very nicely thanks :)
Previously I floated (no pun intended) the idea that your boat May been designed for the excess water below the fore deck to drain via the bilge. On a recent video Danni and Joe mention the same design issue in boats built before 1980. Which leads me to a serious question! When you successfully prevent water from pooling under the fire deck how will the water that will accumulate on the fire deck escape? Is there an above water line opening in the hull for this water to escape? Which leads me then to the somewhat rhetorical question ‘ have you spent a lot of time trying to sole a non existant problem? I guess that is easy for me to say from the land Downunder.!
Having said that let me say how much I love your vlogs and particularly the way you are happy to present it ‘worts and all’. I would also go for the navy for the cratch covers. And well done Becca on the woodwork. Cheers, and I hope you aren’t offended by the ignorant persistence of another one who can’t tell a left handed screw driver from a right handed one!
yes we had heard of this theory, but there's no real drainage...just a hole for the plumbing, plus there were absolutely no pumps in the bilges to extract any built up water, our boat is 1990 I think, yes there are holes ether used of the deck for the water to escape too, no we love comments its lovely to be able to share our disasters...and hopefully one day all the adventures, thanks so much for supporting us :)
Ahhhh a nice soothing crobot vlog or whatever you call them! Bex you have done amazing things with that wood ? Fancy doing some for my kitchen !!! Lol
Bit disappointed that there was no marigolds this week, but guess it wasn’t a water issue this week. Hello to titan !
By the was Chris, stop calling your self an idiot ! …………..
Leave that for us ! 😉 your getting more and more macho by the vlog thing ! Chris the diy legend ! ( joke! ) adore you guys. See ya next week for another episode! Xxx
Ps navy for the cratch covers!
thanks, I think navy is a go, Becca has done absolutely amazing, and im getting there too.. I can't keep treating you to marigolds every week...I have to tease the viewers haha, thanks for your support and comment see you next week fingers crossed :)
navy all day long.. you getting upholstery inside redone anytime.? my dad is a great upholsterer. Great to see you guys doing all the work yourselves.
love the burnt wood look.
Best of luck..
kev Brinklow kayaker
yes I think navy is the safe option too, thanks so much for your lovely comment, be nice to stop the rain coming in haha
need to sand the worktop again now you have all of your hand oils on it lol. Black for covers as it goes with anything
haha that's a very good point, the bloody things are grubby again haha thanks for your contribution:)
Hi Becca Chris, well it will soon be Christmas before you get your boat lifted I keep saying you should have had the survey done before you started anything to be honest I know you must get fed up me saying that but could find major problems and can’t afford to have it done ,Becca you are pretty handy with that chisel well done you ,is the work top going over the cooker ?,chris you know what they say measure twice cut once lol well guys till next time take care keep yourself safe,John,🌞😂🤫🧐👀👀❤️🌹🙏🙏🥰🧸🧸🧸🤓🤓
it really will be, yes I would have liked to have done too, it just never panned out that way, hopefully were ok waiting a few more months, no we will be cutting out the holes in the worktops so that the cooker and sink can come through, think there going to look amazing, thanks John :)
Navy will go better with the Cratch board, in the front and black with the stern ,or have a mix maybe, id think Navey might show less dirt like white bird muck on black canvas would show
yes I think navy will probably be the way to go, thank you :)
Best of luck with humidifier, i purchased one for my gallery and best investment made I would come in each morning and you couldn't see through windows..After running it 24/7 problem solved but had to empty drawer each morning and evening.
Best of Luck
oh really, maybe we have a damaged one like everything else...or there is quite a big possibility were not doing it right haha
arrrr if you leave the dehumidifier in an unenclosed area next to a open hatch you are basically trying to dehumidify the planet mate :)
yes its a good point haha
You would be better off just using a fan instead of the dehumidifier. You just need the movement of air. Just make sure you leave an access open for the moisture to escape.
good point
yes I thought so, its quite dry in there now to be honest, slightly moist, thanks for your advise :)
The Wood Burning style is called shou sugi ban , which you can also do on stained coloured wood ,
oh cool thanks
If you're keeping the boat colour then I'd go for navy covers but if you're going to change the colour then black will go with anything! 😁
We’ve heard the covers need to be replaced every 3-5 years so I doubt will chance the colour by then so will probably go with the navy, thank you tiller queen 👸 great user name 😀
@@TheNomadicCrobot Think that will look the best, great choice!
Great counter tops! Would the black get too hot! I quite like the maroon actually but maybe it would clash with the paint job on the boat. The navy is pretty too. Ultimately it’s your boat so you should get what makes you happy, of course!
yes maybe, navy seams dark too but it just ties in quite well, and its such a small area, thank you
I'd say Navy covers would look great 🙂
yes I think so too
I think red would be better. nice job on the counter Bex, and Chris nice to see the the confidence building
thank you, yes I really like red though am feeling it could be a red overload maybe??
@@TheNomadicCrobot I think the black will make it hotter on the bow area, and the red is broken by the blue. Or get the side flaps red and the rest of the cover dark blue.
Red scratch cover 👌 would look awesome 👌
owwww controversial I do really like the red... but is it a bit much??
Definitely navy. Your doing a great job 👍
yay to navy :)
Covers, I'd say go with black. Easier to color dye later in life when sun fadded. Great work guys, from Portland Oregon U.S.
owww thank you...hi from England :)
Have you checked seal where the motor for bow thruster goes through the tunnel to connect to the impeller of the thruster if it seized the vibrations could have caused it to shift in the housing
that's for your great advise we shall check though it hasn't been very wet in the recently which leads us to believe its more than likely rain water fingers crossed :)
Black may get to hot on sunny days! Cheers...
yeah we did think that cheers Jeff
Use a plumbers blow torch for the wooden worktop…..yes I would run your engine weekly for about an hour…..got to go with Navy xx
oh that's interesting thanks for your advise, we shall start her up maybe I think its a good idea, navy seams a go at the minute :)
Glue them in with CT1 construction adhesive
owww ok, thanks will look into this, we've been told the adhesive should be able to flex :)
Chris, where did you find Becks she's brilliant, and your getting there...... The work tops are coming on, I'd put 2 biscuits in each end of the scaffolding board where they join two gether. The burning of the wood is called the Japanese burning technique. It's a natural way for waterproofing the face of the wood. Just keep going 👍 o yes navy blue river cream/white band.....
she is absolutely amazing and half the time she just looks up these skills on the google or RUclips, something maybe I should be doing, yes I think that's a good idea withe worktops, will make them extra sterdy. thanks the navy seams popular:)
@@TheNomadicCrobot RUclips it great for finding out how to do things. That's how I learn my skills just have a go and don't be scared off trying. I always say everyday is school day 😂
yep... Its official, I dont ever want to live on a narrow boat 🤣
haaaa I don't blame you... give us a few years and it will be a whole different story cheers Dean
Navy all the way with black Piping 👍
thanks :)
Navy for the covers, black is drab.... But are you always going to keep her blue? think forward
were not sure, we would definitely change the colour a bit but by that time will probably need new covers haha
Navy Blue for us, a little less harsh than the black
Yes we both really like the navy, many thanks :)
Navy! :)
thank you
Bigger blow torch needed, but oiled may look better than burnt. Oh yeah, navy blue for the cratch.
oh interesting thanks for that and your opinion, yeah im starting to like the navy :)
I Guess Beck's didn't 'authorise' that thumbnail then ?? 😄....... 'The Cruel Crobot' 🤨 ....
haha...I am a cruel Crobot
Would like to see Becca team up with Joe from Danni and Joe.
owww interesting...I haven't Seen many vlogs due to the huge amount of work we have on our hands but there's so many great ones :)
Navy with red trim
Owww I like it, Marcy definitely seams the most popular
Chris, before you fit that wood into your side hatch doors, I hope you treat and/or paint it, especially on the side against the metal, don't rely on buying "pre-treated" wood, unless it's good marine-ply.
yes I was thinking we would have to treat it, I did think it was marine ply though could be wrong?? ill have to ask the maverick , thanks again
If the joining of the two piece galley countertop bothers you, you can do what Joe of 'Danni & Joe' did and push a length of jute rope in with a screw driver. They did their bathroom floor with scaffolding boards and used the jute rope between to seal them. ruclips.net/user/DanniandJoevideos
Not a fan of the burnt wood. A few coats of Marine Sealing Varnish would work better, especially if you plan on making grooves for a drain board. Don't want the wood to soak up the water from dishes.
Take care guys and keep up the fun video's!
oh awesome thanks for the look will take a look into always good to have a few options, thanks for your support and advice :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot Always (too ready) to help out a fellow DIY'er 😂
I’m at my boat for a couple of days, are you guys aboard your boat?
hi Shane so sorry its been a weird few months for being up on the boat, there quite a lot going on behind the scenes so we've only been there odd days, I think these next few weeks are a bit touch and go too, were not fully sure when were going to be there, but then we should hopefully be full steam ahead again, thanks so much for your generosity, we look forward to sharing a cuppa with you boat neighbour
We will meet up at some point,I’ve left the radios and compass on my boat so I don’t forget to take them 👍🏻
Navy!
thanks :)
Definitely navy. Red wouldn't be too bad but I don't think black goes at all.
thanks yes navy seams the best I think :)
I think Navy guys 😊
thank youuu
Dark colours are hotter in the summer. But the choice is black or navy blue. I vote Blue.
yes we did think, we feel the lighter ones may get dirtier quicker, thanks for your input :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot you should have loads of time on your hands for cleaning mate. (Well, when the boat is finished) 🤪
Becca, well done on that worktop, looks REALLY good. I'm no expert but I would say all you need now is clear varnish to waterproof it. I do like charred wood BUT I'm thinking that would be too dark for your galley; as it is, it's a proper-job. Chris you really DO need to practice a few basic knots, I reckon you only really need four for narrowboating - a clove-hitch, bowline, round turn and two half-hitches and a reef knot, all very simple, easy to learn and quick to tie (and untie). As for cratch covers, navy gets my vote. Keep at it you two and good luck. OH, and for the future, if you look at that anchor standing against that weird hunk of tin you have on your bow, just a few licks of paint would make that look like a yacht under sail. Just a thought.
yes your not wrong with the anchor idea haha id veer thought of that, yes I was being very very lazy with my knots...I think I may have forgotten too as its been so long, beccas worktops are amazing, ill pass the message on thanks so much for your support navy seams to get my vote too :)
NAVY
thanks
Black might look dirty quickly. I like maroon or navy. Jeff Davies is correct that black also might be hot in the summer.
yes we did think it could get hot, I think navy may be the way to go, thanks :)
👍👌🇨🇦❤
Navy xx
thankssss
That must be the only table-saw blade guard in the entirety of the UK. (Every UK vid I see with a table-saw has me cringing at the bare blade)
Our basement dehumidifier runs all the time. It has a sensor that will make it turn off if it's dry enough, but if the air is moist enough it'll turn on and suck the moisture out of the air. But you need to dump the water out regularly unless you have a hose connected to a sink drain (or out to the cut?) to empty it automatically.
there terrifying... im surprised they had one :)
oh that's interesting, very handy indeed, thanks so much for your comment :)
Navy👍🏻
thank you :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot pleasure, cracking channel Buddy👍🏻
I think you shall chose black, or perhaps Marine!
There are special "lamps" made to burn wood. They run on methanol
owww ok ill let the boss know, thanks for your suggestion Rolf
I love you’re videos but !!! I don’t understand the scaffolding boards for kitchen worktop !! It’s giving you so much work and they’re not either practical or hygienic, you need to get you’re friend the maverick back and fit out you’re boat like one of those vans he does they were really spectacular
oh they will be very hygienic once were dine with them, lost of bits to still do to them , plus we will be coating them, yessss the maverick is always welcome....come back maverick
Navy… little bit different
im thinking navy :)
Chris, measure twice (or maybe in your case, thrice), cut once.
spot on haaa
Navy Blue
thank you :)
NAVY BLUE - black will soon look worn and grubby.
thank you yes navy seams popular :)
You’ve surprised me, I didn’t know the airstream trailers where still in production, the one in the workshop looks amazing, they are more of an art piece than a trailer
I think its a dummy one actually when I asked the maverick, but they have had ones in, yes I love them too amazing shinny things :)
Black black black x3
owwww ok controversial....most peeps are saying navy, but I likey
@@TheNomadicCrobot Black vinyl is the easiest to clean, won’t get the dreaded green moss .
