Hello Becca, Chris, Yikess those two Spiders!!!!!!! Well done on your tidy up. So sorry to hear that Becca is not well. Sending Becca my warmest wishes for a speedy recovery. Chris, great editing as always. Wishing you success with your boat inspection when it happens. All the very best. Spoolbox.
These false widows seam to love my mattress, how terrifying, supposedly if they do bite you it would be just like a wasp sting...but not really something I want to encounter in the middle of the night 😂Thanks so much for your lovely comment hopefully we will have an update on Mondays episode
Hi Chris and Bex. You were going so well with sorting the narrow boat out. Sorry that Bex has a neck problem. Hope she’s got something sorted and is feeling a bit better 🥰 Take care. Nick
Hi Chris and Bex. The best way to stop the heat is to cover all your windows that are in the sun, as well as on the inside, as that is where most of the heat will be coming in from and keep them and your doors shut. That keeps the night and early morning coolness in but it will eventually warm up. Then you need to create a wind tunnel by opening up each end of the boat and stick a fan at each end in a push, pull config, but still keep the windows shut. Putting a bowl of ice cubes or cool block in front of the push fan will also help keep the temps down. I hope Bex gets better soon as it hurts like feck when your neck goes....
Dear Chris and Bex, Bex you had mentioned if anyone had an idea about reducing the heat in the boat as well as getting the air to move. There is a simple way to do that. Purchase a few computer fans and install them into the mushroom vents. Make sure that some blow into the boat while others exhaust the air. Apparently this works well and will allow you to keep the doors closed if need be. As for your neck, I hope that it has settled down. Big hugs to ya kid! Don't give up guys, there is light at the end of the narrow boat. Mark Alberta, Canada
oh woaw really, I actually have a few so would like to try this method, Thanks Becca has had a Dr appointment and is on the meant Bless her, hopefully we will have an update next Monday, Thanks
Sad to hear about your neck problem Becks.....hope it clears up soon. Sending healing rays. As regards the heat, I was thinking along the idea of fans. Possibly some 12volt ones connected to your solar panels. Or maybe some giant umbrellas all down the boat to keep the sun off. Stay safe.
I sympathise with you Becca, I ruptured 2 discs in my neck - the nerve pain was something else! Plenty of rest. Sending love to you. Don’t let Chris near the tools on his own for Christ sakes!
I have several reflective awnings that I drape over any openings if you can bounce the sun's rays away before they hit the boat you have a fighting chance of keeping cooler.
Hi Guys hope your BSS goes well and I have every confidence in Becs DIY And your Supervisory talent that it will pass with flying Colours. What jobs/repairs you have carried out have been very professional so try not to worry 😉 🙂 😊 Take care and stay safe out there 😊 xx
Aww sorry to hear that Bec's neck is causing her pain I hope things go well and she's up and running again soon. Probably been over doing things with her DIY Anyway get well soon 😊 😘 X
Thanks John, we need all the luck we can get, thankfully Bex is back in the driving seat som we should finally Strat getting some stuff done again😂😂 have a cracking week
Oh no!!! Bex I truly hope you’ve been to a doctor and gotten your problem sorted out. A bad back can mess with your neck. I’m very concerned! For my neck/back problems, I lay flat and put pillows under my knees to keep my back/neck straight. It helps me a lot. I’ll drink a bottle of wine in your honor!!!!
Bless you hope you're ok, Yes this seams to be a similar problem, Bex has since been to the dr. and is resting up so things are moving forward, Thanks for your lovely message and dont get to drunk 😂 ❤️
Oh dear, get well soon becs, looks like rubbing against all that old rockwool was the least of your Problems. For spiders try a handheld vacuum, works for flies too if you are quick! Gas pipes need to be inspectable not hidden. Good luck
Thanks for your advice, I imagine every BSS inspector is likely to be different, hopefully our one isn't to strict, but obviously we need the boat safe too
It sounds like a disc problem in your neck, I did a similar thing once when I over stretched cutting a hedge. I don’t want to alarm you but my MRI showed a herniated cervical disc number 5 disc and there was no real treatment apart from time and pain killers. I did have physio when it was partially healed and I had to have 12 weeks off work. You do need a diagnosis and possible treatment and lots of R&R. Good luck, get well soon. X
oh woaw, hope you made a full recovery, an MRI is something we would like to try get booked, Becca has since seen the dr. and the physio so things are moving, shes doing a little better bless her, thanks for your comment
Sounds like a neck problem I had where I woke up one day and felt I could hardly move. GP said "Look up, look down, look left, look right, repeat, repeat..." and I recovered in a day or so. I've got a fly screen that fits in the side hatch when it's open. It has bolts that bolt into holes in the hatch. The hatch doors can then stay open all evening and through the night without moths or flies getting in.
thats what we always wanted to do, we have stuck a flatscreen on with tape but its a bit shoddy, sorry to hear about your neck, why an odd thing to wake up too, Thanks for your comment Timothy
Hmm curious about the heat issues. Since the boat is a lot like a floating caravan, can you not install caravan style extractor fan style vents in the ceiling? Those covered ones that draw out air and dont allow it back in, with a built in fan etc. Since hot air rises it will all be trapped in the roof area / Top third of the boat. Failing that treat it like a pc computer case. Put a large fan at the bow blowing air in, and another at the stern blowing it the same direction out the back so the boat becomes one long wind tunnel with air moving through it all the time, that will cool it off fast as the air wont hang around to heat up....Hope the neck gets well soon....
Thats a very intestine idea, and am sure it would work, an air conditioning system would be great though would probably requite alot of energy, nearly every narrowboat has this problem, in the thick of summer the steel sausage turns into a furnace 😂😂
@@TheNomadicCrobot Ac is nice, but in the UK there are not a lot of hot days to make it worth while. Roof vents will draw out the hot air as it rises up, that will pull the cooler air in. Hi Linda, thanks for your concern, she's been doing alot better though is still struggling a bit, the drs and physio have seen her so she's in good hands, we're hoping for her to give everyone an update on Mondays episode 😊
If Becks has any numbness in hands/fingers on one side and/or electric shock like pains in one arm with movement, get to a doc/hospital asap. I have centuries of neck problems and know the importance of getting treatment. Don't worry about but best to get it looked at.
Yes I was wondering if an X ray might be needed. It could just be a trapped nerve and an Osteopath would help that. But if there's any chance it's a fracture it needs an X ray.
@@grahamh4960 Yes, needs an X ray if there's any chance it's a fracture. Might be a pinched nerve, might be muscle strain, hope Becs feels better soon or can sort it.
Its such a strange thing, shes just woken up in horrific pain, thankfully she has been seen know but its only eased slightly, will give you all update soon, thanks for all your support
Thanks for asking, shes doing alot better now shes had some guidance from the dr. but things are still a bit iffy, we should hopefully be back this Monday ❤️
Oh no!! This doesn't sound good. I hope you guys found out by now what is wrong& hopefully she is on the mend. Injuries to the neck are quite frightening. Your concerned voice during the phone call is telling. (I literally feel for her. Although my injury was very different. As I got severely injured in my neck& back during a car accident that wasnt my fault. A yr later come to find out I had a front fracture in my neck, not visible on standard Xrays. A motion X-ray finally showed it. By then it had been so long it was difficult to figure out how to proceed. Ended up w a 3 level fusion, because of addt injuries, for me, even 18 yrs later, it was the best decision, I made. I am so glad medicine is as far as it is, esp when it comes to neck& back issues. Pls keep us updated (no details necessary if you guys dont want to disclose private info), just a general one, so we can breathe a lil easier again. There are few pains that stop you in your track. Teeth- neck- and back pain are top of the list. I hope Becca feels better & is able to be her old self again soon/ slowly. Cause sadly as quickly as one gets injured - it often takes forever to mend& one is back at a 100% I am glad though you guys got to tidy up so much beforehand, so she had a comfi bed to lay and recover in. She looked very snuggled in. The poor girl! Hopefully you spoil/ed her during her recovery with loads of love, attention, and getting her everything she asks for :) Not saying, that you dont do that already daily... But you know.. doing extra on all of that, deffo will help her heal and feel better faster :) So, pls you two take good care of yourself and each other. Thanks for the video, couldn't have been easy to get that done& out with everything. Now on a different note! I am so happy for you guys that you are ready for the bss certificate! Even if it had to be delayed. It must be an incredible feeling of pride and accomplishment, (plus warm water), to be able to call them after all this time & challenges thrown your way!! It must feel so darn good!! And you know what, even if they may end up finding a few items that need fixing or correcting. You then know what is left to do, to finally be able to set sail! I think that is totally amazing & I am happy for you guys to have reached this significant mile stone! Enough from me. Sending Becca loads of healing vibes& you a couple of nice spiders to keep you on your toes, so you dont dare tire, while taking care of Becca :)
It was quite a shock, we had been lifting a few things the night before so that definitely didn't help, we do think its been a build up of problems over time, shes been to the dr. and they have helped her slightly but things are still up in the air a bit, we should hopefully be back this Monday to give you lovely people an update, Thanks for all your advice its really helpful to understand what could potentially be going wrong, sorry to hear about all your issues too...these things seem to get us when we least expect it. Hope you have a lovely week and we look forward too seeing you Monday
@@TheNomadicCrobotHere is to her feeling better! Its so terrible when this happens. Thanks for your nice words. Sh*t happens. Life goes on hahaha. Plus its hard to k*ll kraut like me haha. One thing that has really helped me over the years, are flector patches (no script from the doc needed), an alternative to them are Diclofenac from ratio - farm. These are the only two brands that ever worked for me (pain patch wise Ive prob tried em all) & help reduce pain& relax muscles. Despite how many years I've used em, they still help like nothing else does. The other brand patches dont stick, or dont help or both. The ones I've mentioned last longer than 24 hrs. I usually wear em up to 3 days& best yet, they can be cut to size (length wise and a loose bandana around for the neck, I also use em for my carpal tunnel or knee issues). They are an all rounder. Pending which ones you get, the Flector are 5 for around 20 bucks and 10 of the Diclofenac are around 25 bucks. Flector doesn't sell larger packs, than 5 at a time. Unfortunately there are shortages at times of one or the other brand. At least here in Germany. But other Countries do not have this issue. I really cannot recommend em enough. I still push myself further than I should& these helped me every time. I cant wait for Monday! You two lovelies have an amazing weekend!
Just to say that I have never passed BSS 1st time....routine is they examine, fail and leave list of works to do. You do the list. photos for proof that works have been completed. Hey presto.....BSS obtained. I've worked on many boats for loads of years. Hope Bex alright. keep up the good / dodgy work guys
yeah I guessed thats probably the way it would go, plus we dont want to do jobs that we aren't even going to need to do, will have to sit and wait patently , Thank you
Ouch. Neck pain can be quite disabling. Hope Bex is better soon. In the mean time, Titan might have to come to the rescue and deal with the brain-eating spiders.
Hope she gets better soon. Recommend seeing an osteopath (no pain but unpleasant symptoms). Sorted me out. Osteos are great for anything joint, muscle related.
Oh Bex what did you do? I hope your neck is improving. That old rockwool didn't look very nice. Would you be better off replacing it? Take care both of you x
Hi Bex n Chris. Get well soon Bex,neck pain and problems can be pretty horrible but a scarf to keep it warm and free from drafts should help a bit,Chris will be looking after you and fussing over you I’m sure. I’ve always wondered why Narrow Boats when first built in the yards don’t get made with something like underfloor heating for winter but they could also incorporate pipe work within the walls and ceiling which could either be used for Hot Water to heat the Boat or Cold Water to cool the Boat ( these days with the technology we have in solar panels and heat pumps and things like underfloor heating pipes and skirting board radiators etc then surely there could be something for Hot and Cold weather ? ). Obviously have to be careful with putting up pictures or drilling holes lol 😂 but I always think that these Boats could be so better designed than they actually are ?. I think we definitely need to get away from Battery banks ( lithium ) and Electric Motors because I’m not sure about the future of those. And we know that eventually fossil fuels and solid fuels ( wood and coal ) are eventually going to be banned completely so maybe now is the time when somebody needs to be considering alternatives ?. Solar panels, solar water heaters and wind turbines, heat exchangers and heating/cooling systems that rely on the water supply from the canals ?. The canal’s and off grid narrow boats are becoming a lot more popular,so it looks like the CRT are going to be putting their prices up big time pretty soon and it’s going to be a case of you have to have a permanent mooring as part of the Certification process for them,so no more constant cruising is going to be allowed ?. Moorings are going to get expensive so maybe strike a 10 year deal now with your Marina ?.
The problem is that to effectively heat a room with underfloor heating you need a certain percentage of the floor to be empty with no furniture on top, and that percentage is hard to achieve on a narrowboat. It also doesn't work great with wood flooring. Also what do you propose instead of battery banks that would work in winter? How exactly do you imagine putting a wind turbine on a narrowboat?
@@YaaLFH you would think though that with all these new technologies ( wood that isn’t wood but made from compressed materials ) that underfloor heating would be possible in a narrow boat ? . Nowadays there are so many composites that surely there must be something around ?. I think Lithium is eventually going to be something difficult to get hold of or mega expensive ( along with the other minerals needed in construction of the batteries ) because eventually they will decide that ' Yes ' they are damaging the environment etc 🤷♂️,I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t already have something that can be used instead of Lithium and cheaper and better for the environment but until they have used up as much of the resources they can the cheaper alternative will just be something that is ' for the future ' 🤷♂️. I’m just speculating but I really do think that someone who knows more about Narrow Boats than me should think about designing and developing a better build than currently what is available. Doesn’t need to be a big wind turbine ! A few small ones would surely be effective in helping to charge the batteries ?. Water reclamation from rain water etc etc ?
@@moffatt43 Even the best modern timber based materials don't solve the problem of sufficient floor area. Something may replace lithium batteries, but to be usable on a narrowboat it has to be compact! Same goes for wind turbines There are already water treatment systems that make it possible to use canal water at least for washing, but they're not exactly cheap and currently not guaranteed to provide drinking water, so not very popular yet, this will probably change in a few years. You're doing a lot of speculating but forgetting that narrowboats are SMALL, there's a limited amount of space inside and you can't just build them up, or they won't fit under bridges. Also, there's a lot of technological progress that can be and is being applied to narrowboats, but a) it's a very niche market, there fewer than 40k narrowboats in the whole country, about half of them hire boats and out of the rest, most are not liveaboards b) not everyone can afford to upgrade everything quickly so it takes time
We actually have one of the wide beams on the marina fitted with under floor heating, but there very posh, Bet its great for the cold mornings but could also lead to another possible problem down the line, as things just seam to go wrong on narrowboats 😂😂weve recently also been told how shoddy alot of the newer boat builds are. Yes we have heard the prices will be going up again, its going to get to the point were alot of people will have to head back to land or just try and get round paying it. have a lovely week
@@TheNomadicCrobot Well a wide beam has a lot more floor space than a narrowboat, so enough for underfloor heating to work effectively. Yes, it's very comfortable, but if not done right it can be a problem anywhere, not just on a boat.
OMG what happened, surely after all that work it passes. Come on you know now PLEASE let us know. Sorry nearly forgot, Bex I so hope you’re alright. ❤️
Can't you get some form of sort term storage at the boatyard? Sorry to see Bex's in pain, hope she's better soon. Somebody needs to finish all the work before the BSS. For every good vlog there's a hardworking girl behind you.

Sad times ahead for the people that live on the canals ,as the CRT is taking the poor to court to get them off the canals .So there is a short time before the canals will be there for the rich only . So sad to see all what is happening on the canals .

@@claireseyeviewonredbubble An xray won't show entrapped nerves, needs an mri scan.
Ot all those awkward positions you put her in Chris ....fixing the boat of course 😅
How is Bex now? Hope she is feeling better. Sending get well hugs xxx
Thanks for asking, shes doing alot better now shes had some guidance from the dr. but things are still a bit iffy, we should hopefully be back this Monday ❤️
@@TheNomadicCrobot just take care both of you. Your health is far more important. Hugs to both xxx
You no when Chris puts his yellow gloves on a big job has Brock out for becks 😂❤

@@TheNomadicCrobot hope your feeling better ❤️
Take care. Love and best wishes to bex. She’s a star.
Thank you ❤️
Great video. Hope Bexs is ok and recover soon 💝👍
Thank you ❤️❤️
Cause sadly as quickly as one gets injured - it often takes forever to mend& one is back at a 100%
I am glad though you guys got to tidy up so much beforehand, so she had a comfi bed to lay and recover in. She looked very snuggled in. The poor girl! Hopefully you spoil/ed her during her recovery with loads of love, attention, and getting her everything she asks for :)
Not saying, that you dont do that already daily... But you know.. doing extra on all of that, deffo will help her heal and feel better faster :)
So, pls you two take good care of yourself and each other.
You two lovelies have an amazing weekend!
you need to rent a temp storage facility and move everything out and then you can focus on what needs to be done xx Hope your feeling better soon xx
exactly that would help things alot, Thank you ❤️
Thanks
Bless you Steven Thank you so much for this, so kind ❤️❤️
Blimey! Hope Bex is on the mend.
shes on the mend bless her, Thank you ❤️
Oh no! Bex - I hope that things improve very soon.
Thank you ❤️
oh no, sorry to hear Becks isn't well, get well soon Becks.
thanks ❤️
get better soon. Those spiders look scary. Didnt think many people used rockwool now on boats
Thank you ❤️❤️
Aww hope you're OK Becks. Sure you'll pass the test eventually guys. 😊
fingeres crossed buddy, hope you guys are well 👍😀
Put a sprinkler on the roof, allow evaporation pull the heat. Or put a canvas tarp over
great idea cheers Keith
Now were talking...time for the Titan to take lead roll of these vlogs 😂😂
Good to see you back guys ❤bet your glad the BSS is only every 4 years. Hopefully hot water incoming ❤
Hi Lisa hope your well, be glad to get this BSS out the way haha, and hot water is soooooo close, thanks and sure we will catch you both soon x
Hope you're alright Becs
Thank you ❤️
Hope she gets better soon. Recommend seeing an osteopath (no pain but unpleasant symptoms). Sorted me out. Osteos are great for anything joint, muscle related.
Thats interesting thank you ❤️
@TheNomadicCrobot good luck , hope Becca gets better soon
Oh Bex what did you do? I hope your neck is improving.
That old rockwool didn't look very nice. Would you be better off replacing it?
Take care both of you x
Thank you, we have actually just located some new installation so hopefully that will be alot better, take care x

seen this on another vlog, great idea thank you
Oh No! Get well soon Bex I hope its not to serious
Thank you❤️how are are we going to get any work done 😢
My daughter has a small air conditioning unit on her narrowboat but the other week it was still 25C inside the boat!
there dosen't seam like much escape
Hi Bex n Chris.
Get well soon Bex,neck pain and problems can be pretty horrible but a scarf to keep it warm and free from drafts should help a bit,Chris will be looking after you and fussing over you I’m sure.
I’ve always wondered why Narrow Boats when first built in the yards don’t get made with something like underfloor heating for winter but they could also incorporate pipe work within the walls and ceiling which could either be used for Hot Water to heat the Boat or Cold Water to cool the Boat ( these days with the technology we have in solar panels and heat pumps and things like
underfloor heating pipes and skirting board radiators etc then surely there could be something for Hot and Cold weather ?
Same goes for wind turbines
There are already water treatment systems that make it possible to use canal water at least for washing, but they're not exactly cheap and currently not guaranteed to provide drinking water, so not very popular yet, this will probably change in a few years.
Wishing you well becca
Thank you ❤️
OMG what happened, surely after all that work it passes. Come on you know now PLEASE let us know. Sorry nearly forgot, Bex I so hope you’re alright. ❤️

Chris, you really ought to flush your water hose through before you put it in your tank, gets rid of all the stagnant water hiding in your hose.

Hasn't she always carried a pain in the neck? 😂
Hope it gets better quickly Becs.
Exactly what we thought 😂😂
Sad times ahead for the people that live on the canals ,as the CRT is taking the poor to court to get them off the canals .So there is a short time before the canals will be there for the rich only . So sad to see all what is happening on the canals .
yes we were hoping to get on there before it all becomes far to expensive, lets hope it doesn't come to this
