    I have a 2001 Ford 4.6 V8.
    I am NOT a mechanic.
I followed this video and did a little research. I was able to replace the head, water pump, power steering pump & high pressure hose, upper & lower radiator hoses, all new gaskets & seals, spark plugs and boots. Many thanks for making the video. I couldn't have done it without your expertise. It took me 8 Saturday mornings and 3 evenings to rebuild it all. I now own some unique tools. New tools and parts combined about $1,600 TOTAL spent. May & June 2023.

Hey I'm doing the same thing in my 4.6 right now and on my passenger side exhaust manifold I can't get to two of the underneath bolts because the engine mount is in the way of the bolts. I can't even get the socket on the bolt.. did you have this issue. I'm wondering if you had to remove the motor mount or maybe raise the engine slightly to reach the bolts? I have seen other people with 4.6 having similar issue

Just a little FYI.. if you do the double nut method, once you jam the 2 together use the bottom nut to break the bolt loose. Using the top one will just spin off everytime if the bolt is tighter than what you jammed the 2 together at. Highly unlikely to spin both nuts jammed together, possible but unlikely. If it breaks off you would be in same boat as the 1st stud that broke off. I can say though, I've gotten 99% of the studs out using the 2 jam nuts.

Pro tip when removing the water pump, while hitting with a hammer (i used brass) also use a long pry bar against the alternator pushing the pulley of the water pump towards you. That pressure along with the hammer blows pops it off fairly easily.

Hello and thank you so much for the very detailed tutorial. I am currently well into this process and I’m right at the point where you are in the video at 35:10. So, rotating the crank to line up the cams. I just had a quick question about that step. On my setup no matter how much I rotate the crank I can only get it to line up approximately 12 o’clock passenger side cam, 1 o’clock driver side cam when my crank groove is at 12 o’clock. Am I good to just remove the tensioners and timing chain even though it’s not exactly what yours shows? Thanks.

Dont forget to set your valves before installing the valve covers. Also should consider replacing the timing chains and sprockets with the waterpump. Its all off at that point. If your doing a head gasket its probably almost time for a timing chain and waterpump. Spark plugs are out, replace them if its time as well.

Quick question about those affected by the oil leak on the rear of the passenger side head gasket, I've seen some people just monitor the leak and top up oil as necessary.
Just wondering if this is acceptable as the Ford TSB even states its not detrimental to the performance of the engine.
As people state, $3,000 - $4,000 buys a lot of oil, lol.
Edit: is it really a good idea to use an abrasive (i.e. sandpaper) to clean the gasket sealing surface of the block? Isn't that making it possible to introduce abrasives into the oiling system and ultimately the bearings?

I'm doing this on the 4.6 and something he doesn't have to deal with on the 5.4 is the passenger side exhaust manifold has two bolts on the bottom that you absolutely cannot get to unless you remove the motor mount bolts to the block .. the mount Is in the way to the point you cant remove the bolt...There are 3 bolts to the block. Very easy to remove.. Remove them and slowly jack up the motor with a jack under the oil pan. You only need to lift the engine maybe 1/2 an inch to get the manifold bolt above the motor mount. .. then it's easy to remove bolts. Flawed design by Ford
