- This crochet baby blanket is designed with Bernat Blanket yarn and is a fast and easy pattern perfect for beginners.
Written pattern here: crochetdreamz....
I made up this stitch to imitate the classic granny stripe blankets and reduced the gaps to make a warm, squishy crochet baby blanket.
This crochet blanket for beginners is a joy to make and uses 3 colors. You DO NOT FASTEN OFF AFTER EVERY ROW. You just carry the yarn along the side of your blanket. Once you add the border all the side strands get concealed. Easy Peasy!
I made a baby boy blanket using shades of blue. You can choose any 3 colors and make it for a boy or girl. Don't forget to tag #crochetdreamz on Instagram if you make one. I would love to see it.

I like the way you keep the yarn on and just carry over so that you don't have to cut and weave your ends in all the time!! Very cool!! I will try this next time I do a stripes blanket. I only use 4 medium and not this fat yarn, but this can be applied to all sizes of yarn!!
Really helpful! Thank you. I like this stitch! It's easier for me to keep rows even.
Glad it was helpful!

@@crochetdreamz Oh thank uou! I knit and crocheted a lot growing up and recently started back making my hubs beanie hats for winter fishing and have since made over 30. Then a friend of mine had a 1st grandchild, and I had made all my kids baby blankets, so I made her a beautiful lt.pink balanket with white satin ribbons weaved intermittently with bows tied at the bottom and it was so feminine and sweet I was hooked again! So, I truly appreciate all it takes to make these videos and what you share. I am always excited to master a new stitch and project, so I really do appreciate these videos sooooooo much!
Yes
I love your tutorials, thank you!

Hi , I make a lot of baby blankets and give them away so, I really liked this pattern it's very pretty. I subscribed to your channel looking forward to learning many more things to make from you. I like how you teach and explain so we can understand. :-)
Thank you for your words of encouragement.
Can I make this longer by just continuing on to desired length? Width is fine for lap blanket, I’d like it longer. Love this!
Yes of course!
So Sweet, So Simple, So WELL DONE❣️ I love it for my grandbaby ❣️ Thank you so much dear❣️🌷❣️
Thank you so much, Faith. I love your name ❤.

Very well done! Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome. Thank you for watching.
Very pretty!
I’m not into chunky yarns.
I understand
Thank you so much for your teachings. I love your tutorials. After the edging of single crochets, on this blanket, do you think a ruffle, (2 DC in each stitch) would look nice? Thank you for your opinion. Much appreciation
I would suggest you do it in a small part and see how you like it. I have found that most borders look funny in this yarn.
I am grateful for your opinion. Thank you so much. I am expecting my first grandson in September. I appreciate and look forward to your teachings. Thank you
I've just changed my mind. I decided to follow your teaching and do your border. Your teachings encourage me. It's beautiful and more simpler, especially for a boy. Thank you so much for your teachings!
Great instructions! I am a beginner in crocheting so I was wondering how many do i chain to make a bigger blanket for my grandma to put on her bed? It would be more than 67 correct? I have 3 white and 3 blue skeins of yarn.
Yes, definitely chain more. You can make a small swatch and calculate from there.
Your grandma will be thrilled!
Beautiful ☺️
Thank you! 😊
Very clean explanations.
Thank you.
Lovely blanket! Thank you for the easy to follow instructions, especially how to manage the 3 colors and how to make the curve around the corners. I am in the middle of making a blanket with your pattern now using Bernat Blanket in vintage white, light grey, and brick. I am also going to use Bernat Blanket Stripes for another blanket using your pattern. Thank you again! I have subscribed to your channel.
Thank you so much for subscribing.
Could this be done with a multi colored or solid color yarn?
Why not, absolutely!
Yes
I'm going to give this bulky yarn a try. I really like pink and grey but i need a third color. Should i go with a darker gray or a darker pink or something completely different? For my soon to arrive granddaughter.
Cream would go great with pink and gray. Always mix in a neutral color.
Thank you it is so easy ❤️, How many skins of each color did you use?
200 yards of the cream and dark blue color and 300 yards of the light blue color. Each skein of Bernat Blanket yarn is 220 yards long.
Looking forward to making this! A question - when is the building chain to the next row part of a double stitch, and when is it sole ya building chain followed by a skip stitch then two HD? Thanks
The building chain-2 always counts as a hdc in this pattern. You can find the written pattern here: crochetdreamz.com/crochet-granny-stripe/
crochetdreamz Thank you!
Can you tell me please, with the exception of the stitches, are you working into the middle of each stitch or picking up from underneath of the stitch?
I am sorry, I did not get your question. I am working into the "V' of the stitches as usual.
I had the same question. I have been stuck. I the first row working up from the chain, you go through the back loop. But after that, I think you are making a basic stitch going under both front and back loop? Under both? Your video is great, but if you could do that part slower and show it clearer? Absolute beginner here.
Hello. I just found your tutorial because I have been watching crochet vids and lessons on yt lately. Patterns I have found for granny stripe are in multiples of three plus 3 to start the pattern. Do you know why this would be? The pattern start I have mentioned has worked for me twice so far. Thanks for your time on this. I also have recently bought some blanket yarn and was wondering how it would turn out for something like this. Now I know. 😊
This is not a regular granny stripe but the stitch has been adjusted to suit the thickness of Blanket yarn.
@@crochetdreamz thankyou for your answer. I have this blanket weight yarn. I will use this pattern for the blanket I am going to make for me. Because you can never have too many cozy blankets . . . . Can you? 😘 Have a wonderful day. ❤
I have to try this. I usually make baby blankets with baby sport yarn. Question-I haven't bought any yet but does the crystalite (plastic) crochet needles slide just as easy as the metal? I bought a bamboo, but it was not smooth at all. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!
Yes, the plastic hook glides really smoothly.
@@crochetdreamz Thanks for helping me make up my mind. I have been using the metal kind of susan bates and they are so heavy, I crochet a few rows then have to rest my fingers. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!
Hi this is gorgeous,l wonder could it be done in a worsted weight yarn as l have arthritis and find big hooks hard to use, thanks so much it's a great idea for the granny stitch pattern,🎈🎈🎈
Hi Deborah, Absolutely!
Só nice 👍 tankyou
You are very welcome.

Would this pattern still work with 4 colors?
Yes, it would. You just might get more tails to weave in.
Are there written instructions for this pattern? It is lovely.
Yes, you can find it here: crochetdreamz.com/crochet-granny-stripe/
Can I make this blanket using just one color?
Absolutely, go for it!
What do you mean by chain any multiples of 2+3? I want a blanket 48 inches how many chains is that?
You can chain 81 to make it 48 inches wide.
how many skeins did this tke?
200 yards of the cream and dark blue color and 300 yards of the light blue color for a 40 X 41" blanket.
I am a beginner and im having trouble with the pattern and cant seem to get the correct number of DCs so not sure what I am doing wrong = attempted 5 times and it starts to shorten? any help?
It is common for newbies to lose stitches. Place a marker in the last stitch of each row. That way you will know where to work your last stitch of the next row. The last stitch is sometimes hard to see which makes you turn without working into it which makes your work shrink.
I don’t know why but I am REALLY struggling with this pattern. I’ve redone my first row like three times now and it looks so untidy every time 😭
Practice makes perfect.
Lovely.. Where can i get this cool yarn in UK?
Try Amazon may be and even Etsy?
has anyone made this in medium we ight#4 yarn?????
You can make a small swatch in medium weight yarn and see if you like it.
