Linda Coats thank you!!
@@AmandaCrochets you are so Welcome! In fact I'm going to try this blanket very soon. You have inspired me! I just love Grey mixed with any colors, but baby pink and blue's are just the best! I'm going to make a adult size throw in shades if grey also, cannot wait to get started. Even though I live in AZ I don't limit my blanket making til only the winter time. The heat doesn't seem to bother me thank goodness! I get the majority of my orders then too!
@@lindacoats7322 I'm glad I could inspire you. That's my goal with this channel-to inspire and teach others how to crochet. I'm with you on that, as I love gray mixed with different colors as well. Gray seems to be my go-to color lately. Blankets are one of my favorite things to make. I'm glad the heat doesn't get to you and you're not limited by that. It always helps with the air on as well. That's wonderful that you get so many orders. I'm sure people are thrilled with their handmade gifts you make them :)
Love this ❤️ Thank you for sharing.

Terri Miller those colors sound very pretty! I’m glad you enjoyed this video!
Very nice tutorial, I just finished the main part of the blanket, It took me 2 months of crochet on and off and between other crafts I do. I'm now ready to add the border. I used blue and white, I will use gray for the border. Thanks for sharing this video. Happy Crocheting!!

Also, I tried for the first time new way to go into my chain row! Loved the results! No big holes! And my name is Marie, and I am the crocheter. Acct. is in my husband’s name! 😊
I’m glad you found a new way for your chain row! Always satisfying when something works out 😊
Okay okay, let me get this clear. Usually, when I crochet, I can make mistakes easily. But- with this stitch, it’s literally IMPOSSIBLE. I sat on my bed, with my started blanket project, and in thirty minutes I finished the first row. It was so quick and fast. And it’s super satisfying to do this stitch. Usually I get tired of crocheting and put down the hook, but you made the best tutorial EVER on this. Super easy to follow. Thank you SO MUCH! ❤️❤️❤️
You’re very welcome! I’m so happy to hear you gave this blanket a try and are enjoying it! Keep it up!! 💕💕

I'm actually using this pattern to make an heirloom Christmas blanket, it's queen sized but it's coming out beautifully!
That’s amazing! I bet it’ll be beautiful!
Beauitful.i will be trying one for my granddaughter that is due in March
Robin Glover thanks! I’m sure your blanket will turn out amazing and will be cherished for a very long time.
How many chain to start with if I would like to double that size?
V if you want to double the size, you will want to make 266 chains. I did 133 chains for this blanket. Of course it all depends on how you crochet as well.
i love this, i am going to do a boy blanket using this tutorial. thank you
The Empty Nest Reborn Doll Nursery you’re welcome! Enjoy making this blanket.
Thanks for the demo! I have crochet one blanket for my niece. Wanting to share my joy by attaching a photo of the end product but I cant find such option. 🤭
MsPrisyl you’re very welcome! I don’t think you’re able to share photos on RUclips, but you can always send me them to my email which is amandacrochets@yahoo.com.
Thanks for your video, I made one for my great-grandson and I am so pleased with how it turned out. I would love to see a tutorial on newborn mittens and what size yarn would I use?
Judy Manning you’re very welcome! Glad you enjoyed and I’m sure that your blanket will be cherished. For newborn mittens, I would probably use a size 3 weight yarn.
I love it, you forgot to mention that with the three colors its takes two skeins of each color. when I was making this (for my cousin who had a baby yesterday) I thought this took one skein each but came short. I looked at your written pattern and it said two skeins per color ☺ I thought it maybe helpful for anyone who is a visual learner and learns from the video ☺
Around the 1:14 mark I mentioned the supplies needed. I originally mentioned you'll need 3 skeins of each color in order to complete this blanket. When working on this blanket, I realized I only used 2 skeins of each color. I believe I mentioned this later on in my video. I also have the written pattern listed in the description box below.
okay, thank you for the awesome video 👍😄
Very beautiful
Thanks a lot!
I love the colors now im debating which afghan to do and how many rows each I have a solid purple and pretty variegated one thank u again
@@krazymammaw3040 deciding which colors is always hard as I can picture projects in so many color options. Enjoy!
Love the video I am make it for a friend that is going to have her first baby
That sounds like a great idea!
Beautiful pattern, thank you so much! I’m currently making this blanket and planning on making the same shell edge as you showed us. But I would really like to go around one more time with another color around the shell edge with maybe a single crochet? Would that be possible? If you can help in any way I’d be so grateful!
Thank you and thanks for watching! Of course! You can change up the border however you'd like. I think if you added a single crochet border onto the shell border, it would look cute, especially if you did it in a different color from your shell border.
Thank you for your video ♥️ it is beautiful! I have used a Caron Latte Cakes Blueberry yarn which transitions through different blues and whites. I used your measurements for the tail of the blanket however made it a bit longer so not only fits the cot but will also be able to be used when my nephew grows into a young boy. I’ve finished the main part of the blanket and going to do the border with a dark blue single stitch and white shell stitch to finish. The blanket is so soft and warm 🥰 With the shell stitch border did you add any additional stitches when at each corner to assist in turning the border nicely?
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you’re enjoying this pattern! I haven’t used the latte cakes before, but I am tempted to pick some up sometime. For the border, I didn’t do any additional stitches to help round out the corner, I just alternated the shell and single crochet all the way around. I’m sure your nephew will cherish your blanket for years!
This blanket is beautiful! I can’t wait to make it. Your teaching is very easy to follow. Just wondering though, did you only use one skein of each blue, white and grey colors? As in only three skeins total? I want to make sure to know how many I should buy to make this exact blanket.
Thank you! I ended up using 2 skeins of each color. However, I bought 3 skeins of each color just to make sure I had more than enough. I tend to always buy a little more than needed.
❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
I am making this blanket right now and watching you is very helpful. I am new to crochet and you have taught me a lot. I was wondering if you would be able to demonstrate another blanket i found that was a free pattern?
I’m glad my videos have been helpful! I could help with the other pattern, just let me know what it is.
I was going to stop crochet but this has changed my mind going to do one cor my self as my legs get cold thank you very much
You’re very welcome!
Hi Amanda I love this baby blanket how many stitches would I need for a kids single bed please
Cathy Lee sorry the delay in getting back to you. For a kids single bed, you will need 281 chains.
I’ve never made a granny stripe blanket before, been crocheting for 50 years. It’s easier than I thought it would be. I’m using 2 colors instead of 3 but still using the change color ever 6 rows
I'm so glad you've enjoyed the granny stripe tutorial! It's a lot of fun and it is easier than it looks. Happy crocheting :)
Can't wait to try out this pattern! I am a beginner and you explain this stitch very well! Our niece is turning 1 and I wanted to make this blanket for her. What size would you recommend so she can use it for a few years? Also, how do I determine how much yarn to use? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch!
As far as a good size, I would say about or around 40x40 would be a good size. You can always make the blanket 40 inches wide and just make the blanket a little longer. For yarn, I always overbuy just in case. If I have any yarn leftover, I'll either use it for another project or return it. Hope that helps!
I have been ask to make a blanket for the end of a bed , they want it to go down the sides I think this would be perfect , Thank you
That sounds lovely! Happy crocheting :)
Hello thank you for sharing do we repeat row 3 over and over again?
Sayra Hernandez you will repeat rows 2 and 3 over and over again until your desired length.
Love this. I am wanting to do one for my daughter for her twin size bed. How many chains for this size?? New subscriber here!
Thanks for watching and subscribing! For a twin size bed, you will need about 298 chains. This will drape nicely over the twin size bed. I hope that works out for you!
Thank you! I love your tutorials. I plan to do a granny stripe blanket in 3 colors for a queen size bed rather than a baby blanket. About how many chains would you start with? Thanks,
Valerie Girrens thank you for watching! I would start with 406 chains as this will give you a nice drape.
@@AmandaCrochets Thanks Amanda. I think this will be a good pattern for my first blanket. Just now finishing up row 3. How many skeins of yarn do you think I will need? I have 9 of 3 different colors. Each says 355 yards. Your tutorials are great. I have had an especially challenging time with getting the ends right and yours was very helpful so I am hoping they line up this time for me.
Valerie Girrens it’s hard to say as I haven’t made a blanket that big, but that’s probably more than enough. If you ever need more yarn, Caron Simply Soft does not have dye lots so you don’t have to worry about the color being slightly off skein to skein.
I love the video. Do you have to put two on at the end
Thanks! For this blanket, you will need to make a chain in a multiple of 3. Then you will add 1 chain to the very end.
Thank you for your excellent teaching and beautiful pattern! Just finished mine today using your colors and hook size. Unfortunately, it didn't work out very well for me. The foundation row was too tight with no stretch, compared to the rest of the blanket which was crocheted with my normal, loose tension. Blocking didn't help. Any suggestions for me to correct this for future projects?? Thanks so much again for your video and your help! :) Vikki
John Neyhart you’re welcome! It sounds like a tension issue. As far as how to fix this, I would go up a hook size or two just for the initial chain. Then I would switch back to the hook you want to use for the rest of the blanket. That should help with your tension being the same and consistent throughout. Hope that helps!
@@AmandaCrochets I'll try that next time... thanks very much! Vikki
John Neyhart you’re very welcome!
This is a super easy pattern, I just finished one for gender neutral for a friend who doesn’t know the sex of their baby until it’s born! My colors were Mint, White, Yellow! I taught myself how to do this stitch by looking at another blanket....lol Too bad other stitches aren’t as easy! You are a Great Teacher, so I Subscribed 01/24/20 so I may learn a few others...I’ve been doing Crochet since I was a little girl, my babysitter taught me 44 years ago! I’ve never been able to follow a pattern unless I’ve followed someone’s teaching or visually learning by looking at a blanket & trying it!
Shelley Londry thanks for watching and subscribing! Those colors sound very pretty together. I hope you’re able to learn many more crochet stitches 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I’m fairly new to crochet but really wanted to give this a try. I have finished the main part of the blanket and it is beautiful. I’m working on the gray border and I found that the side was difficult but I eventually worked it out but now I’m at the bottom and really struggling with how to do that part. I’m not sure if my foundation row was just to tight or somehow wrong. I can’t seem to be able to get into the stitch the same way I did at the top. I’m not really even sure how to explain the problem I’m having. It’s almost like there isn’t really a stitch to get into like there was at the top? Any advice? Thank you.
April Batty you’re welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed this tutorial. I understand exactly what you’re saying. It is possible that your foundation chain is too tight. As a beginner that can happen. I would suggest going up a hook size just to make your chain until your tension evens out a little more. As far as the bottom of the blanket, I would make 2 stitches in the spaces in between the double crochet clusters. Then make one stitch in the same chain as the double crochet clusters. That should help keep things a little more balanced. I hope this makes sense! I believe I showed this step more in detail if you look for my candy stripe blanket video.
Amanda Crochets thank you so much! I will definitely check out that video. And it is a beautiful blanket. I learned so much. Thanks again.
April Batty you’re welcome! Happy crocheting 🧶
Have you made this in any other colors? Im considering doing it..
The colors you made is beautiful.
Armida Perez thank you! I just sold a blanket using this pattern using Caron Simply Soft in soft green, white, and gray heather.
How did you close the blanket before starting the border.
Really nice video. I have started this same project
I made a slip stitch before continuing onto the border. I hope you enjoy this project!
Love your work have one question what do you recommend for a baby blanket and do you only use three skeins of yarn for your example or three of each ? Thank you very much
Elizabeth Ruvalcaba thank you! You can use any worsted weight #4 yarn you would like such as Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn, Red Heart with Love, or the Caron Simply Soft yarn I used in this tutorial. You can use any colors you like and change up the stripes as well. Or you can make this a solid color. It’s really up to you. For this tutorial I used 2-3 skeins of each color.
Amanda Crochets ok but how many skeins do I buy or how many grams
Elizabeth Ruvalcaba you will need about 1,890 yards of yarn for this blanket.
Great tutorial, question do you make a knot to secure the new color with the previous color? I’m always afraid that with use or wash it will unravel, just wondering. Thanks in advance! 😊
I don't make a knot to secure, but I do crochet over it at least once. Then when I weave in my ends, I make sure to go in 3 different directions to make sure it's secure enough. I've never had a problem with them unraveling though.
Hi Amanda- do you have a video on how to hide tails (change colors). My blanket is coming along nicely but I’ll need to finish it soon. I would like your take
Xtina E hello! I don’t have a video, but to weave in ends, I usually insert my tapestry needle back and forth a few times to keep them hidden. I’ll try and explain it in a future video!
Hi! I can't wait to start this! I was wondering if you know how many rows this is? I have a few colors and I wanna make some fun but symmetrical stripes. Thank you!
Hello! I did a total of 96 rows for this blanket. Hope you enjoy!
@@AmandaCrochets thank you! I'm so excited!
@@Sam-gi8xo You're welcome!
Hi there, ust wanted to say I loved your tutorial and this blanket came out BEAUTIFUL! :)
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed this baby blanket! I did 6 stripes of blue and 5 stripes of the white and gray. Each section was 6 rows wide, so the total number of rows is 96.
Amanda Crochets Thank you so much 😊💖
Pretty blanket. How many section of each color.
Thank you! You can find all of that information on my blog: www.amandacrochets.com/granny-stripe-baby-boy-blanket/
This is beautiful. I have never had children so not for sure about what people tell me. I have heard that this is not a good stitch for babies because they get their hands/fingers tangled in the holes? Is this right?
Sophiecjp thank you! I made this for my nephew and he hasn’t gotten his hands or feet stuck in the holes.
Amanda,
Enjoyed your video, and I made pictured blanket! Not happy with the right side curling border. I have been crocheting for over 60 years, so I don’t believe it’s a tension issue. Think I put too many sc along the first row for border. I am ready to frog it! How do I insert a photo of the blanket for your guidance?
Hi Marie and thanks for reaching out! I’m glad you enjoyed my blanket pattern. It’s a lot of fun to make. Yes, the curling is probably due to too many stitches. You can make a little less stitches and it should come out just right. Hope that works! You can always email me photos of your finished blanket. My email is listed in the description box of the video. 😊🧶
can i ask what colours you used they are lovely together
Thank you! I used Caron Simply Soft in Soft Blue, White, and Light Grey Heather.
Amanda, so sorry for posting twice but I’m a little unclear on something. When you’ve finished going around all four sides with the shell stitch, and you come to the corner where you started, how do you end it off? Do you join it somehow? Please help if you can, I’m a little stuck. Thanks!
No worries! When you've made your shell border, you will simply join with a slip stitch to the beginning of your border round. Then you will fasten off and weave in all your ends. Hope that clears things up for you!
Thank you so much for getting back to me! Just in time. :)
@@MM-xz5ig You're very welcome!
So when you say repeat rows two and three do you mean to alternate?
Julliet Elmore yes you got it.
